Crown Carvery The Old Quay in Cheshire West and Chester

AWFUL!! Empty car park says it all. Carvery was left unattended and food open to flies. Vegetarian "chicken" fillet had been taken out of freezer microwaved til it was like a dry biscuit then put on a plate- grey dry and inedible- the dog would not touch it. Vegetables were cold and unpalatable, cauliflower was mostly tough stem that a knife could not cut through. Complaint to staff met with no response. Then all the staff vanished. No serviettes, No care. Left in disgust. Will never go there again. One star is too high.

Just poor, I left a fair review last time of three stars maybe a little over a year ago, the 3* was due to the lovely staff. Once again the staff were brilliant and the service was great, the plates were cleared away quickly and everything was friendly. However, the food was awful..... Last time I made a review about how poor the carvery was and the food ordered from the menu was great after a third consecutive bad visit! Sadly there has been no improvement in the carvery, salty and just below par! But worse again the food we ordered off the menu was terrible, the kids goujons came out after my lads dessert did???? Fortunately my wife and daughter had left finished, I say finished, they chose to leave most of their dinner so they had the dessert between them. When mine and my lads food came out it was all edible that's all I can say about it, the chips were decent although I'd ordered a Yorkshire pud with the goujons, they brought out chips..... The burger was cremated and about as thick as my debit card, plus I'd paid extra to have a piece of chicken on it. The guy who brought it out was very apologetic and he went back and got the chicken for me (which had to be cooked). When he returned with it he gave me a £2 refund and apologised again...... Sadly the chicken was cold in the middle so it didn't get eaten either. I hate leaving negative reviews and we went back to the Quay despite how poor the food had been a year or so ago 😫 Once again the staff are all lovely and helpful but the food fell well short, I'm not sure we'll be giving them a fourth chance but when you spend close to £50 quid for a mid week meal out I kinda expect to enjoy it. I hope this is just a bad day for The Quays because customers deserve much more than that 👎

I had carvery and it was very nice and most of it gluten free. But hubby has a very bland Pizza . Needed more taste adding . Staff very nice

Top Tier Beer Garden Location ☀️ Come here quite regularly now. I'm awful with names but JP (manager I assume) and Craig I think it was (Morning Chef and Sunday Roast expert) have guaranteed I'll be coming back here. Lovely food with friendly service, chef has brilliant banter and cooks better than I do which is a really nice surprise when eating out. Would highly recommend.

Came here for breakfast with my family that are visiting from Portugal, booked for sunday lunch. They remembered us from last time and we even got the same table with window view! Manager and Chef was so nice, lovely atmosphere, super friendly staff. Will deffo come by again ✨ thank you guys 😊

Had a nice ice-cream shop that had just opened, and I think the staff were a bit distracted and offhand, but the ice-cream was good.

I would just like to thank Terry the General Manager and her assistant whose name i unfortunately forgot for the care they gave me on Easter Sunday when they had to call an ambulance for me. They were both caring and kind in a traumatic event....food was good as well!!!! Thank you both xx

Forgot to put a review after the stars so here it is. A really great place. My dad has dementia and when going up to get the carvery the chef took care and had patience. We got there early for 1:30 instead of 2pm and was accommodated. The booking was under Bernie Roberts so I would like to thanks to be passed on to the chef that was in that day.

Just in the area for a night called here for food with great service and good food. Yes, we will be back. It is immaculately clean.

If I had of used the bathroom before ordering / eating food I would never had stayed. There was no toilet paper in the Ladies and there was poo trod in on the floor and smeared up the walls.... The starters were fine . I was over charged and they said it was correct My bill should have been £39.52 with that days offers and I was Charged £41.90. We both ordered burgers (which was the offer of the day) at £8.99 each including fries, we were offered fries or potato tots so we chose one of each. We were not told that we would be charged extra for these , which we were. the cheese burger smelt so bad that it wasnt eaten at all and was brought away to hand to environmental health, it was obviously off before cooking. the chicken burger was so badly burnt that you couldnt even cut it with a knife. the soft chicken in the middle was tried but I have ended up with food poisoning. The staff were not very friendly as if we were putting them by being there. A staff meeting was going on but nobody would leave the staff meeting to come and serve people who were waiting to order either food or drinks. On arrival we looked for a table that was clean/ clear of dirty crockery , cutlery and childrens drawings. We were 20 minutes into our food when a staff member started to clear the tables around us and she was still doing it when we left an hour or so later. This was not because they were busy as there was only one other group of customers eating it was just that nobody could be bothered to do the job that they were being paid for.Give this place a miss for your health

Had the misfortune to be last in the queue behind a coach party . What was left of the veg was therefore not just lukewarm but carrots were actually cold. The promised refills didn't arrive , ( when I asked if more veg was coming the answer came " still in steamer " but nothing made it out of the kitchen ) Meat service was interrupted at regular intervals for chef to enter numbers into a tablet . There was an extra charge for pigs in blankets and sausage . Positives - Reasonable price for 2 courses . The meat was tender , the roast potatoes delicious and the gravy hot . The delightful waitress worked her socks off delivering the puddings and was very cheerful likewise the guy behind the bar . The view across the Bay is great & there are lots of outside tables available. I presume service , and replenishing of the various vegetables , is quicker when the restaurant is busy & more staff available but given our experience on the day , we wouldn't eat here again.

Been coming here since I was a kid don't come here as often anymore thought it would be a nice treat and took my mum, partner and daughter out trip down memory lane well, absolutely disappointing we ordered at 6:55pm the girl who served us was lovely and customer service was great we sat down andenamd my mum were going to wait until my partner and daughter's food came out but my partner said go get yours ours will be out when you get back so we went and gout the carvery the gentleman was lovely he chatted to us again great customer service made us laugh the carvery was lovely it got to 7:20pm and we were starting to wonder where the other 2meals where so a lady in blue shirt walked past I politely said to her 'excuse me so sorry to bother you just wondering where there meals are?' she looked miserable and said 'ill go check' came back very rudely and unapologetic said 'there sorting it' we were mortified no niceness no 'oh im so sorry something went wrong I'll get that sorted quickly for you' nothing like that as thats what i would of been like as i to work in a pub and I'd be so apologetic and empathetic towards the customer, she walked away and my mum was speaking to me and the woman turned around and said something to us with a snotty look on her face and walled off we couldn't hear what she said because my 3year old daughter was screaming due to the fact she was hungry and getting tired. It got to 8:05pm and my partner got fed up of waiting me my daughter was falling asleep and hungry so we got up and oue food was only just getting delivered to us I admit I wasn't very happy and I was upset because I've always had a nice time here and yes we could of just cooked at home but we just wanted a nice meal out and treat my mum since she lost her husband so we were quite vulnerable as it was the lad who gave us a refund again customer service was great he was polite and apologetic it's just a shame that the woman who we chased up the meals let it down felt humiliated and the chef person who was arguing with me annoyed us. It's a real shame how one person can wreck your experience yes we got a refund but that's not the point it wasn't handled very well and she needs retraining shocking.

Friendly, helpful staff. Accessible location with disabled parking, ramps and facilities for wheelchair users. Good food, plenty of choice on the menu and the freshly made pizzas were lovely. Would visit again.

The food and service were amazing, and the prices were great. I really appreciate Lex, Millie, and Callum for making our experience so special with delish food. They went above and beyond for us, and they were checking in on us. They’re such a lovely group, and we’ll definitely be back. I forgot to take pictures of the burgers and pizza, but I did manage to take some of these unreal bubble waffles that Lex and Millie spoiled us with haha. Thanks again! :)

lex and cal absolutely smashed the food, the pizza was unreal the chips and burgers were amazing and the deserts was next level, the service as well by millie, couldn't of asked for a better family meal, the prices are very fair and the scenary is the best, overall one of the best places I've ever gone for a meal and that goes for the food, service and atmosphere

We are so glad we picked the Old Quay. for my Dad’s funeral reception. Apart from the stunning location and good parking, the service couldn’t have been better. John the manager was so kind and professional and thoughtful. We were allocated a private section for our buffet. . All of our guests said that the food was lovely and the staff were extremely helpful and efficient. They helped us end a difficult day on a happy note. I will remember John’s kind assistance. Stop off for snacks and drinks after a local walk. Fantastic,friendly welcome from John. Pint of IPA delicious alongside lovely piping hot food. Will definitely be back soon for a full meal.

My friend has special dietary restrictions. The staff were extremely helpful and had info on all their dishes to ensure she could enjoy a delicious meal without feeling left out. The restaurant has some great VE options such as vegan custard and a vegan gravy. The manager brought them over in a separate jug which was very helpful.

Had many mixed experiences in the past here but recently it's been great. Went yesterday (19th Feb and 4:50) and it was lovely. Carvery was really nice, everything was hot and tasty. Service was excellent, the 2 gentleman that were on were very pleasant and really helpful. Not too busy but ticking along nicely. Didn't get any names but the young guy who was bribing the food out and taking plates, as well as serving, setting tables etc didn't stop the whole time we were there and still kept a really positive attitude and genuinely nice when we spoke to him. Not taking away from the lithe workers but he just stood out a little more. Can't wait for a return visit

Nice 2 course reasonably priced set meal with lots of additional choices on the menu in an attractive setting. Clean bright open premesis, also staff helpful and kind- they understood about our lack of tech savviness- this is why we are reviewing the restaurant this way and not with QR codes!

13 of us went for Sunday lunch for a birthday having been there many times. unfortunately the quality of food was very disappointing. We all had the carvery,the food was not hot and there was not a lot of vegetables out. The beef was very poor.more fat than meat .there was 2 vegetarians in are party so where very limited to what they had. Some of us had desert one of our party had to wait for more than 30 minutes by that time everyone had finished.Having picked where to eat ,I felt embarrassed that I had chosen your restaurant/pub

Haven't been here for years. Remembering it as a busy popular place to go for a carvery. When we walked in we were shown to a table sandwiched between two other full tables. The pub itself was very quiet anyone walking in was sandwiched together which I thought was odd. Service was very slow to start with. To get our starters I was beginning to think they were still trying to catch the chicken. After that food was flowing. Initially was going for a roast but after seeing all the food sitting there it looked really dry and we only saw 1 person go for the carvery the entire time we were there. We opted for burgers and they were nice. Chocolate fudge cake amazing! Shame to see it so quiet on a Saturday night compared to how I remembered it

I was visiting with family for a pre-birthday breakfast celebration this morning. The food, service and atmosphere was superb! All staff were friendly and accommodating and the food was very hot. We would definitely recommend and will be back!

Took my daughter for a spur of the moment meal on Sunday. There was no problem to fit us in. Staff were amazing, super attentive, polite and funny. The restaurant was spotless, and the toilets very clean and tidy! The food was beautiful, so tasty. I couldn't eat it all and bought some home in a take away bag.. Definitely recommend anyone to pop along and try them out

Expensive and poor selection, 2 adults and 2 kids with 4 drinks £75. Meat was dry not much served alsl no many vegetables to choose from. Wasn't clear how the carvery worked and wasn't clear where to find the gravy and sauces. Overall terrible. I'll stick to Toby carvery.

After a bit of a rocky Christmas day meal, we were invited back as a family to have a meal on the house! It was bloody lovely!! Starters mains and pudding all spot on and served super quickly! Mandy, Aaron and George are just super lovely, friendly and chatty and kept checking everything was okay and we really appreciate that level of service! Thanks guys we really appreciate you doing this for us tonight!

Visited with my family on a very quiet Wednesday afternoon, no more than 4 tables were occupied so very few diners. We ordered and paid for our order at the bar then waited and waited and waited, my partner was eventually served his meal, still waiting for our drinks ( 3 x orange juices). It took then over half an hour to get our drinks and this was after us asking for them again. Had our main course. We then waited and waited for our desserts and had to ask for them too. Shockingly bad service considering the place was fairly empty, which is a shame, as the food was OK.

Come here every 4weeks on payday! We love it here JP and his team are lovely! JP even said he had a temptation to squirt mayo at me as he was bringing it over but decided against it! JP has a lovely personality and we will be back like normal!
