We had our granddaughters 18th birthday meal for 11 there. Staff are amazing making it a very special occasion. Food and service could not be faulted. Everyone extremely happy. The staff went out of their way to make the event special

Went here for the first time for my 50th Birthday and will definitely go back. I had the Belly Pork which was perfect. Also had the Orange and Passionfruit cheesecake which was lovely. My husband had the mixed grill and my son had the steak. Both said their steak was very tough and couldn't finish it. Overall though we really enjoyed our visit. Our waiter Jacob was excellent and could not be more helpful.

Beautiful evening spent on Valentine’s Day with my partner first class dining experience great service from our waitress ELLA nothing was too much for her a credit to the carnarvon team the food was wonderful my personal highlight being the chocolate fudge cake with vanilla ice cream absolutely fabulous a perfectly priced menu bang on with todays market prices highly recommend you give this place a try if in or around the teversal area plus added history also with connections to king TUT wonderful place go on give it a go you won’t be disappointed

A large family booking to celebrate a 40th birthday. The staff were attentive without being overbearing, the food was delicious! Would definitely eat here again.

Came up from Lancashire to stay with family. Booked to eat here. Always had great food in the past. Unfortunately this time the food was disappointing, bland & tasteless. Salt & Chilli battered prawns were not as described and not seasoned at all. The rump steak ordered was very chewey....and all in all it was not up to usual standard. Staff were lively, atmosphere and setting was nice....shame the food wasn't up to scratch, especially at £180!!!!

Why isnt this pub dog friendly?. Staying at campsite nearby and wanted a nice meal indoors. Dogs not allowed inside. They are losing alot of custom because its near a dog walking area and a campsite full of dog owners like us!. Keep up with the times pls.

2 of us called in without a booking. The service was fantastic, the manager, Clare, I think, was extremely attentive. The pork stack was really tasty and came along with new potatoes, broccoli, carrots and kale, all freshly cooked and not frozen. The lasagne was not the sloppy sort normally served in pubs. This came with chips and salad. The potatoes and vegetables and the chips are all 'refillable', meaning if you ask for more you get a fresh portion, hot straight from the kitchen. Really lovely food. The hot chocolate fudge cake was fab. The only negative was the tiramisu, as per my sister who's partner is Italian. Overall 4.5 out of 5

2 of our guests are vegan and having researching many pubs for their vegan menus we decided on the carnarvon as on their website they had a vegan starter , 3 vegan mains and a vegan pudding which is very rare so we thought we'd found a great place for everyone. When we got there the menu we were handed no longer had the vegan starter or pudding and only 2 of the mains. We were told they were getting taken over and that the menu had changed. Well then please change your website too as still today the vegan starter and pudding are on the website. We all just had a main course which was OK but went elsewhere for pudding. Just a bit disappointed as was a birthday trip but sadly won't return Nice staff though and beautiful dining area.

Food and service both excellent, can't fault it

Dropped in without booking at lunch time. Ate in the bar area and really relaxed and great service. The food here is amazing. Good value and the free refill of veg and chips is always a massive bonus. The only criticism is it's not closer to my house so I can walk there. 100% recommend.

Starter Brie and mango parcels were amazing! Beef bourgogne was ok presentation a zero . Cheese cake ok . Service 2/10 . Waiters giving no service . I ordered 3 drinks from different waiters, and only 1 came after following up until .

This is not a dog friendly pub. We were told that we could eat in a heated room at back of pub. Room.smelt like an ashtray with people using it as a smoking area. Plates with leftover food were scattered around and it clearly hadn't been cleaned since lunchtime - we arrived at 6. Can't understand why such a large pub isn't able to provide tables for those with a dog especially given that they say they are dog friendly. Shame because menu looks good and it is lovely inside.

Lovely food nice atmosphere very busy

Went Boxing Day as we could not get on Christmas Day. Wish we hadn't bothered. Service excellent but the food was a right let down. Tasteless, under cooked and over priced. Served a raw sausage which I'm glad I spotted or I'd have food poisoning today. Vegetables had seen hardly any heat. I don't mind crunchy carrots but I draw the line at raw broccoli . On the plus side our waitress was good.

Having known this pub since my teenage years, back when Silverhill pit operated next door, the transformation of this venue is nothing short of remarkable. What was once a no-nonsense working man’s pub for miners coming off their shifts has been reinvented as a stylish and inviting pub/restaurant. It’s hard to reconcile today’s polished atmosphere with my memories of an old man playing the piano for rowdy and drunken singalongs in the bar. That said, it would be wonderful if the pub embraced its working-class roots rather than leaning into the totally fabricated connection it claims with D.H. Lawrence. A nod to its authentic rather than fake heritage would add a layer of depth and character to its charm. As for the food, while The Carnarvon falls short of being a true gastropub despite its claims, it delivers significantly better quality than Wetherspoons and is excellent value. What truly sets the place apart, however, is the staff. They’re a credit to the establishment—warm, attentive, and clearly happy to be there. Their exceptional customer service adds a welcoming touch to a very attractive venue.

Took the parents for a meal out before Christmas - pre booked - it was extremely busy! Service from staff was super - efficient and friendly. Food could not be faulted - generous portions and excellent. Will return - thank you so much for a lovely evening.

We meet up with family every Christmas at this pub because the location is ideal. The restaurant was busy but we were served quickly and all the meals were spot-on. If anything, this place seems to get better. Our ages ranged from 6 to 76 and we all had a lovely time and really enjoyed the meal and fantastic service. Nothing was too much trouble when we asked for extras etc. The bill was extremely reasonable as well. The Carnarvon is exactly how a restaurant should be run. Deserves five stars. Hopefully we’ll be back next year, if not before.

Met with friends for lunch. We suggested the Carnarvon Arms as a midway between where we and they lived. We had an excellent lunch, beautifully cooked and were served by helpful and friendly staff. The menu choice was extensive and good. The quality of the food was first class and it was a thoroughly good experience, enjoyed greatly by all of us.

Excellent food with service to match

Aesthetically it is very pleasing to the eye. The pub is well furnished and nicely decorated. However, the service wasn’t so good. 1 member of our group began choking and needed help. No assistance was offered from staff even as we began to hit the ladies back in an effort to dislodge the food . No one came to see if she needed anything once the panic was over - a glass of water would have been helpful! One was brought when we asked though. Then 1 lady found a black, long hair entangled within her sausage (pig in blanket) . When we brought it to the attention of the supervisor, she accused my friend of it being her own hair. This hair was actually wrapped/ embedded into the meat, not accidentally dropped. No apologies offered and no one approached our table again . Very poor service , will not be recommending or returning.

Really great atmosphere and service. All the staff were lovely. It was clean and cosy. The presentation of the food was very good. Our only critique was that there was too much cheese on the fish pie and too much gravy already on the roast dinner. We will come back.

Our xmas club lunch was amazing. Big thank you to a member of staff who helped someone in our club after taking ill .he was very professional. X

I had a vegetarian curry it was cooked and served perfectly, the waiting on service was done quickly and attentively. We did have a little wait for the sweet but it was quite busy. The pub was quite cold when we first walked in but when we told the waitress it was quickly dealt with. Would not hesitate to come to this establishment again.

A great atmosphere in the pub . We had a meal in the garden room as we had our dog . The garden room is really good with heaters to keep warm . The food was fantastic and fairly priced. My on small criticism would be the dishes didn't get cleared from the table . But it was Friday evening and they were really busy . Overall a great experience.

Shame that we had to sit outside because we had two little dogs.I can understand why they don’t allow dogs in because it would be too full of people otherwise.There’s a campsite 200 yards away and walk (five pits trail) with lots of dogs.It was a bit cold outside.This has to be one of the only pubs around that don’t allow dogs.

Had a wonderful evening and some amazing prepared food, only down side was the waiting time of about 45 minutes to get the food. In the carnarvon's defence it was busy and it was worth waiting for, we will definitely return every time we visit the Area and would highly recommend it, the staff are wonderful friendly and give great service, I will be recommending it at the Siverhil woodland retreat and campsite where we are staying

I have left a review before, however I have to say, the staff are just amazing, absolutely nothing is too much trouble for them, they always go above and beyond to make sure, your dining experience is the best it could be! We are frequent visitors here and have never had a bad meal, we also use it for family birthdays and again all meals served together and no complaints! So lucky to have the Carnarvon in our local area. Thank you and well done you are an amazing team.

Visiting friends and staying on silverhill caravan site with our 2 Labradors and arrived Friday evening to a very busy pub, wasn’t holding out much hope of getting a table but was greeted by a lovely lady who explained dogs are not allowed in the pub but they had a summer house out back which we could sit in. Concerned it might be too cold she reassured me it has heaters and was welcome to take a look. We ended up staying and enjoyed a lovely meal of fish pie with lots of veg and chips, I had chicken and bacon Caesar salad which was beautiful and was too full for desert. We enjoyed it that much we returned for another drink the next evening with our friends - excellent service and food

Fabulous place to eat, staff are very friendly and welcoming

This place used to be great, I've been going here for years. The food has got very expensive over the last couple of years, which is not an issue at all if the quality is there, and it's just not anymore. Very cheap cuts of meat poorly cooked, the chef had two attempts to cook a steak as requested and failed both times. If a chef can't get steak right, he shouldn't be in a kitchen in my opinion, it's basic cooking skills and I can honestly do better myself at home, the steak quality from Aldi is a step or two above theirs, the pork, gammon and chicken cooked to within an inch of their lives. Everything is also covered in oil/grease and slapped on a plate in an attempt to look fancy, accompanied by frozen chips and overcooked vegetables, not what you would expect when paying £28 for a mixed grill. What I will say, is it's still a lovely place to sit, the staff are very attentive and can't do enough for you, Shame about the food. By all means go here for a drink or two, just don't waste your money on the food.

Prices have rocketed here in the last couple of years. I don't mind paying a fair price for a decent meal but for some menu items I don't feel that The Carnarvon offers that any longer. The desserts are a good example. Traditional desserts like apple pie or sponge with custard are good value and you get a decent sized portion on a largish plate. The desserts like the Bailey Boo for example is terrible value. It was served in one of those thin sundae glasses. The amount of ice cream was minimal and nowhere near the 3 scoops that the menu described it as having . The crunchie 'pieces' were just two small crumbs. Really disappointing for the money paid. I felt ripped off which isn't a nice feeling.

Still really good 4 years later. Didn't mention before but they have some of the nicest toilets I've ever seen in a pub. Really enjoyed the food. The early bird menu is exceptional value and the choice is incredible. The venue is nice with plenty of seating and a suitable sized carpark.

Been to the pub a few times now( last one tonight 19.9.24) it has great service and food. Well worth a visit. I’d give it 4.5 stars only cos no place is perfect.☺️

First time visiting this pub for food. All I can say is wow. The staff were lovely and the food was delicious. We will be back.

1st visit, as recommended by a neighbour, easy to find, lovely tastefully decorated restaurant and beer garden with under cover seating area with tables, very nice, staff very welcoming when we said we'd not been before, I had scampi but it was dry and hard, and hubby had beef pie & chips, 2 deserts and a few beers, not bad for a first visit although £65. Came again midweek and hubby had lamb lunch and I had veggie lunch which off the early bird menu, 2 boiled potatoes, 3 veggie sausages that were tasteless, peas and carrots, no mash or any other veg, and the plate smelt like a damp tea towel , and so did the deserts when they came , very off putting, service brilliant but sadly food not so good, lamb was alright, such a shame as the decor and staff seem first class but sadly the food wasn't.

No major complaints from me, Nice food and reasonable service.

Excellent Sunday lunch, good service from the staff and good value for money

On a recent visit to the Carnarvon we were served in the restaurant by a male waiter wearing bright red nail varnish. I don't think so. We will be dining elsewhere.

Lovely food and friendly staff. A recommended place to visit for a meal or a drink. The boozy beef pie is very tasty, along with the Four Cheese Farfalle. Good 'main' portion sizes too!

Nice food and beer garden lovely to sit in on a sunny day.Abit expensive but usually busy so they must be doing something right.

The food was perfect .a little bit to much batter on my fish but that's just me . It was quite a surprise to get vegetables as well which were well cooked .

Took my mum out for a meal but come here often. The food is always delicious and there is loads of choice on the menu. It was delicious as always and the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive.

Very good food at a reasonable price. I especially wanted to review the Canarvon tonight.I have eaten there numerous times,and had good service.However,this evening we had exceptional attentive and friendly service from the waiter named Jacob.A credit to The Canarvon.

Attended a function where there was 20+ people for a meal. The service was good by polite friendly staff and the food was excellent and plentiful. Would recommend.

A ribeye steak that wasn't a ribeye steak (more like a sirloin). A gammon that gets sent out 20 minutes before the rest of the meal. A pork tower that is just pork and bacon. I guess when the wages they pay are peanuts they get monkeys.

Visited for an evening meal on a Tuesday evening with some work colleagues, with modest expectations. The food was good, and well flavoured but the service made the evening. All the staff were very friendly and engaging and seemed to be enjoying their roles. Will definitely visit again

Easy to book, but I’d recommended you do as it’s a popular place; especially on a Sunday. Met straight away and seated in a booth style table. Staff were friendly, everything looked clean although table was ever so slightly sticky. Drink came straight away and during the meal we were asked if we’d like more just as the glasses were getting empty. We all had the carvery option, 5 beef and I had the chicken, which I asked to go large on. Probably not recommended as the additional Yorkshire was soggy and the extra meat was small. All plates finished and a few deserts ordered.

One of if not the best eateries in the locality

The staff and service were good. The surroundings were also pleasant. That’s where it ended. The food was average to say the least. Whoever wrote the menu had a degree in literature with a talent for elaborate and ornate descriptions. Sadly, the kitchen does not deliver what the descriptions promise. I could elaborate (bland boiled cauliflower, carrots, beans…) but I won’t. You need to use your imagination and conjure up the plainest and least flavoursome vegetables, greasiest fried food, sad and dry fat chips, salad dressing on cabbage which is clearly mint sauce from a jar… and you are somewhere very close to spot on. If they can only do pub grub, admit it. Stop trying to be a fancy ‘gastro pub’. You are delusional. You do so many things badly, change to doing just do a few very well.

Such a lovely place and the food was delicious 😍 the chips could have been cooked a little more for my taste but that’s just my preference. The service was so hood and all the servers were friendly. I had a huge craving for home made onion rings and these made me SO HAPPY! They were delicious 🤤

super gastro pub resturant....our meals were excellent served in lovely surroundings by very helpful staff probably one of the best places to eat in this area if i could give it 11 out of 10 i would.

Went with family for a birthday celebration, we had a large group of 25 booked in. We pre ordered our food the week before and everything ran like clockwork. The food all came out at the same time, everyone said their meal was really nice and the staff were fantastic. Couldn't fault anything and we will definitely be back

My mom and I visted The Carnarvon for a drink and dessert. The staff were all pleasant and greeted us straight away. Although the kitchen was closed for meals, they still allowed us to have a dessert. We were promptly seated, and didn't have long to wait for our delicous well presented desserts. We asked for our thanks to be passed onto the kitchen staff, since they weren't technically serving but we're happy to have prepare or desserts.

Family night daughter’s birthday. Start by saying the lady who served us was lovely. They brought daughter’s cake out and sung brilliant. Not been for a while but sadly won’t be back. Husbands fish pie was mush. My garlic mushrooms worst had. Bullock pis which I’d had before not as good.

on Sunday the 2nd June I treated my family to a meal to celebrate my 70th Birthday 16 of us in the ship room it was amazing the staff where 100% The meal was marvellous Thank you so much for making the day so special
