Came here for lunch with my family. It’s abit out the way on Ormskirk Road but definitely worse stopping at. The outside and inside was lovely. All the staff were great and the food came in fine time. My chicken Pizza was great!

Beautiful place with wonderful staff. Oliver was our sever and she was very attentive and polite. Cheif kieran produced wonderful tastey food. Go hungry and portions are large

We had two trios today cooked by Dan and was served by the lovely Alex, who couldn't do enough for us. Will definitely be back next week for another.

After reading some of the reviews on here, I feel like we were either at a different pub or the staff were having a really off day. After being seated and looking at the menus we waited 10 minutes to be served as didn’t know it was bar service only. I then went to the bar only to be told to sit down and someone- I think she said Sean, would come over to take our order. Another 10 minutes went by and so I asked a girl passing by if we could order - she went away and came back a few minutes later to take our order. It was 40 minutes after we arrived that our drinks finally came to our table . We had seen them sitting on the bar for ages and even when they were brought them over the teapot had been left on the bar so I had to go over and ask for it. The food arrived and wasn’t as good as I was expecting for the price. The ‘roast’ potatoes weren’t roasted at all and 3 of mine were hard in the middle as were 2 of my daughters. The meat was nice though there was no stuffing as advertised. My son had the children’s chicken nuggets and chips and literally had 5 chips on his plate with the same amount of square nuggets- we had to feed him again when we got home as he was still hungry! My husband had fish and chips and his fish was really over cooked like it had been kept under a hot light for ages. When I paid the bill and told the man my concerns about the service, he told me that it’s bar service only and I told him his staff had told me to sit down and that I waited ,only for him to argue again saying that I waited because it’s bar service only. First time visiting here and wouldn’t come again. Food is over priced for what you get- especially the kids meals. The staff are all miserable and not one of them smiled when serving people.

We’ve been visiting this pub as a family for years, but unfortunately, our recent experience was by far the worst we’ve had anywhere! We’re not usually ones to complain, but we felt it was necessary this time. While it was great to see the pub so busy, the service was extremely slow, and the food arrived cold and overcooked, suggesting it had been sitting out for some time. We waited over an hour between our starters and mains, despite there only being four of us at the table. Two of us ordered the fish and chips, and both portions were disappointing — the batter was so overdone it was almost inedible, and the fish inside was dry. We left most of the food on our plates. Unfortunately, the staff were clearly rushed off their feet, and we couldn’t find anyone to raise our concerns with. By the time we received the bill, it hardly felt worth making a complaint as staff were changing over at 20;00. While we understand that every place can have an off day, it was disheartening to pay for meals we couldn’t eat. This pub used to be a family favourite, but after this experience, we’re not in a hurry to return..

Perfect date night! Me and my partner visited this lovely country pub for a date night and everything was delightful! From the warm welcome by Danny to the spectacular service from Josie, nothing was too much! My starter even came out presented in a shell! How delightful! Mains followed quickly after and Josie made sure our drinks were always topped up! Will definitely visit again!

Always wanted to to go here from being a child and passing it by on the coach trips to Southport. Finally got to go and I wasn't disappointed. Staff were wonderful,service all it should be and the atmosphere was brilliant. Lots of different areas to sit and most importantly for me a disabled loo that was accessible.

Lovely looking pub, went inside and was met by no-one so we sat ourselves, had to search around for a menu, but the ones I found had very little choice, so had to look on my phone for the menu, but still didn't find much I would like. Ordered 2 latte coffees and was shocked at the tiny size of cup that came fir the price of the coffee, I could have got a large coffee at Srarbucks for a few pench more! Ordered 2 portioned of chips and a lemon tart, after a bit of a wait the lemon tart came out first? Who eats dessert first? The size of the slice was small with a spoonful of blueberry compote at the side and then a dolop of over whipped on the turn cream, oh! And 2 mint leaves still on a large piece of stalk, we asked about the chips and the waitress went to see where they were, she came back with 2 sauce pots with chips in, I asked if the cream was supposed to be soured cream and she told us it was whipping cream and I said that it had been over- whipped and started to go off, she took the plate way saying she'd sort it out. When eating the supposedly triple cooked chips that some were still mushy on the outside so definitely were not triple cooked, we found SO many bad chips, at least half of the handful you get in a portion were bad and inedible, then the tart came back out with the bad cream having been scrapped off the plate and some softer cream(probably from further down in the bowl from the 1st portion) served in a bowl about the same size as the one we got our chips in. Overall the food was bad and overpriced, the coffees were tiny and barely tasted of coffee. I certainly won't be returning, as a customer you like to feel looked after and as though you've had a nice time, we came out feeling totally ripped off and disgusted at the quality of the food we were given.

This restaurant looks very inviting. It has a very good atmosphere, the staff are very professional and knowledgeable. It has a lovely outside seating area for lovely sunny days. Inside is also very pleasant. The food is very good.

Slow…. Arrived at 8 pm for our table, only to have to wait till 20 past, not a problem. Very understanding when restaurants are busy. Unfortunately had to wait another 20 mins for our food order to be taken, by the time our first starter arrived it was 21:15, followed by another long wait for our main at 21:50, dishes and drinks had been missed which means we waited extra time for these to be delivered. Food was delicious but service was slow… not what we expected really for a Mother’s Day meal. It was eventually around 10 o clock when we were offered dessert, to find that half of them weren’t available, asked for these to be taken away no problem except it was followed by a 20 min wait….. see the correlation ? To sum up the experience it was slow and inattentive, rarely were we asked if our food was okay and we were placed in a room in the back away from rest of the population eating here. Needless to say our Mother’s Day was throughly disappointing and wouldn’t really recommend the service but if you can overlook no service with no smile then sure the food was fab !! :)

What is usually a good pub has been let down by having only one hand pull beer available, out of a possible 5, with no intention to put these on despite the pub being busy. How a pub is awarded a casque mark when they don't actually serve the cask beer is a mystery. Shame really as otherwise it's ok.

The star of our visit was undoubtedly our server, Theodora, who went above and beyond to make our meal special. From the moment we sat down, Theodora was attentive without being intrusive. What truly stood out was how she interacted with my little boy. Anyone who has dined out with young children knows it can be challenging, but Theodora’s patience was remarkable. She took the time to engage with him, making him feel important and welcome.

Been here a dozen times from an evening meal as a couple to business lunch or social drink. Reliable and convenient location on the way into Ormskirk.

Our server Alex was fabulous, always had a smile and was incredibly bubbly.

Lovely welcome with lovely staff who were very attentive. Popped in before picking our daughter up from uni so it wasn't planned but the staff were very accommodating.

Never had a bad meal here, the food is always lovely. Considering the quality of the foods and beverages on offer, and the customer base it is aiming for, the service sadly doesn't match. It is not the worst- but it really could be better. I'm writing this as a regular customer of over 8 years, we really do love the place and want it to be as good as it has been before! The last few times we have been ( 6 or 7 in last 2 years) , weve found it can be extremely slow service- 1/2 hour between courses, not offered desserts/sides/more drinks, having to ask for cutlery and condiments, plates not being taken away, having to try to grab a staff member to get our bill. The staff are trying their best, but they are mostly young and probably inexperienced/untrained, which is not great in a busy pub/restaurant. Please PLEASE invest time in staff training!!!

Had a lovely meal out. Have to give credit to the great service provided by Chris and Se who were very attentive and friendly. Compliments to the chefs also - Andy and Jo who have out done themselves as per usual. We will be back.

Great food but service has been very slow on both of our recent visits

Food good (a two course lunch - cheesy mushrooms and a gammon steak with brilliant chips and perfectly fried eggs) and piping hot, served by very pleasant waitresses. Service prompt and atmosphere very relaxed with a nice real fire. Prices reasonable given recent inflation. Plenty of people around also seemed to be enjoying their meals. Gents loo could do with some TLC - perfectly serviceable and clean but a bit stark - not sure the radiator was actually working in there

Nice and cosy with real lig fires, food was quite good too and reasonably priced, be nice in the summer as there are plenty of outside tables and chairs.

Booked for a late lunch with family to celebrate my mums birthday. The waitress who served us was so miserable. The food took forever to arrive. I ordered another drink when the food eventually came and still hadn’t received it when I had finished my meal 15 minutes later. I chased this with the waitress and she said that she would get the drink for me but 10 minutes later there was still no drink. I ended up having to go to the bar to get the drink. The waitress eventually came over to clear our plates and said that she had to sort someone else’s bill before getting my drink and then seemed to pass the blame by saying that it hadn’t gone through and she was in the process of putting it through when I went to the bar even though the barman passed over two drinks so clearly it had gone through. There was no apology from the waitress and she remained miserable throughout. She didn’t once smile. It’s such a shame that the service was so poor. We’ve all said that we won’t be returning due to this which is a shame because the staff have always been lovely and the service has been great when we have been previously.

Had a great buttermilk chicken burger here, serve by Ross, Louise, and Phoebe who were all lovely. Great food cooked by Andy and Dan. Also a nice cozy fire lit on a cold day!

Sunday Lunch roast simply fantastic, servers a great nice pub

Visited the Sandpiper for the 1st time in a little while, not having read the recent reviews we were really looking forward to some good food as we have previously enjoyed. Upon arrival we were left waiting for what seemed ages (about 5 mins) without being acknowledged whilst a few staff were serving at the bar and at one point 1 member of the team walked past the queue without even acknowledging us. However after a disappointing welcome we were finally greated by Jaqueline who was a chatty and really engaging host. She showed us to our seat by a roaring log fire which was so welcoming on a cold day. She was attentive and took our order prompty The meal came quickly and was perfect. We will definatley visit again and despite the few poor reviews I would encourage others to visit too. The hospitality industry is having a tough time with increasing salary and fixed overhead costs but people like Jaqueline make visiting a local pub for a lunch a nice treat.

We have been many times before and the Sandpiper is one of our favourite places to eat. The evening did not start out well as we were stood at reception (alone) for a few minutes before being acknowledged and shown to our table. That is the only criticism. The drinks arrived quickly and the menus were in the waitress' hand. The food was excellent, competitively priced, very palatable and our young waitress was knowledgeable, attentive and excellent at her job.

Lovely charming pub, dog friendly and a great menu.

Went with my wife and daughter I ordered a burger and my wife and daughter both got a steak, food was a bit slow to arrive, when it did it looked good except my daughters and mine was cold I don't mean a bit but cold l informed the server and she apologised and took it back and asked if my daughter and I would like a free drink, when food came back it was hot but just thrown on the plate it didn't resemble how it looked the first time and it looked and tasted like my daughters chips we had sent back had been refried and put back on her plate aswell as the tomatoes on the vine being missing I couldn't be bothered sending it back again as we were supposed to be having a family meal together and my wife had pretty much finished hers.

Lasagne was lovely thoroughly recommended

Lovely evening. Very accommodating especially with people with allergies and disabilities inside. One note for the owners is that all of the disabled car spaces were not being used by people with blue badges.

Went for an evening meal with friends. Had a voucher for 50% off main course. We all had rump steak which was cooked perfectly, The chips were hand cut proper chips. Parking great in large carpark.

Went there a few months ago for a friends birthday, id said i would do a review and forgot. But come back a week ago and it was still just as lovely, the burger was juicy and absolutely perfect, lovely staff. The only down fall is the pricing, but that cant be helped

Very disappointing visit. We booked a table for 3pm to accommodate my elderly mother in law (93yrs) Service for drinks was very slow - there seemed to be only one member of staff for the whole restaurant. She apologized for the slow service. Food was ordered from the festive menu. 1 starter and 5 main courses with the intention of ordering 5 desserts. Starter arrived with an apology for the slow service - again. After a long wait the main courses arrived. Turkey was lovely and moist but the roast potatoes were awful, dried up and cold. Desserts were ordered with another round of drinks. Drinks arrived but the mug for the tea was unwashed with food on the outside. We waited and waited and waited for the desserts but in the end we had to abandon the visit and leave - my mother in law was too tired to wait any longer and wanted to get home. It was after 5pm by this time. The bar was busy but the restaurant wasn’t. We still only saw one member of staff serving food and drinks in the restaurant. I dread to think what service would be like if it was busy. Over 2 hours for 1 starter and 5 mains. Total bill £163.70 This was supposed to be a Christmas treat as at 93yrs old she doesn’t have many left. A very expensive and ultimately disheartening afternoon.

Excellent gastro pub food, great value for money & super friendly professional team.

Had our usual get family together for Christmas only this year outshone all the others. Isobel was the very best hostess being super efficient as well as in the background. Well done you ! Food was outstanding.. thanks to Andy,Amy and Jen. But Isobel needs a five star review of her own . Such a fantastic experience thank you

Sunday lunch was delicious the best I've had in a while. We were served by Abbie today who was lovely and really looked after us. We love this dog friendly pub and can't wait to return.

Lovely surroundings & decor. Very overpriced on both average food & drinks! Service is terrible as the empty plates stood on the table for 45 minutes. Quiet evening so no excuse. Wouldn't recommend & won't be returning

Went for some lunch with friends was served by Chris, food was amazing, Chris was very friendly and attentive. He looked after us and made effort to make conversation with us which was lovely. He’s a credit to the business. Would 100% recommend. Joanne the head chef was working and her food is lovely. Will be booking again thanks guys.

Ordered 2 burgers with chips today at £16.75 and £18.95 food was cold and chips were not even edible was offered fresh chips when we had nearly finished which we declined and manager just walked away. Would never eat in this place again
