The Rigbye Arms in West Lancashire

Checked on pubs website to check opening hours. Showed open so drove to the pub for a meal. Ordered drinks and when I asked for the menus I was told they don’t serve food on Mondays. Complete waste of time. Why do they not include this information on the website??

Haven't been since before lockdown so it was time for another visit.We weren't disappointed either.Had a superb 3 course Sunday lunch.

I've not been to the Rigbye for a few years when it was under the previous management so thought would give it a try. Had roast beef Sunday lunch. It looked nice when it arrived. A nice big Yorkshire pudding and nice side bowl of vegetables. The mashed carrot and swede was good as was the side order of veg. The roast potatoes were average as was the mash. The gravy looked nice but was lacking something called flavour. However the worst part of the dish was the roast beef. Bland isnt the word to describe it. It had solid fat running through it and it nearly broke my teeth. You can see it on the photograph. Really poor effort of a roast dinner. Wouldn't recommend it at all. Think eating some coal from the fire would have been a safer option for my teeth. Very poor indeed

Great gluten free food and beer options

Llamado a especificaciones en un domingo cuando pasaba, nunca he estado antes. Era media tarde, así que pensamos que conseguir una mesa no sería ningún problema, ya que era mucho después de la típica prisa a la hora del almuerzo y mucho antes de las cenas de la noche. Por suerte, lograron apretarnos en lo que siempre es una buena señal cuando estaba reservado durante todo el día. El personal era muy amable y agradable, excelente servicio. La comida era absolutamente deliciosa. Tuve Strogandoff que fue realmente magnífico. Hubby tenía cordero que dijo que era excelente y las verduras estaban perfectamente cocinadas. Es un lugar muy bonito dentro, no todo hacinado. Sin duda volveremos, pero asegurándonos de reservar primero. Lo recomendaría encantado a amigos y familiares.

Clean, nicely furnished,roomy pub/restaurant, efficient service, not bad prices and in a lovely area.

Missus and me have never been here before. Visited " on spec", sunday lunch time and even though it was busy we were found a table. I had lamb dinner and my wife had stroganoff. Really, really tasty meals and first class service. Enjoyed everything!

Absolutely brilliantly place can't recommend it enough.

Lovely traditional style pub with lovely pints on draft. The food is the game winner though, restaurant standard and absolutely stunning. Well recommended.

Hidden gem of a pub came here after a cold and rainy walk around Fairy Glen. Greeted with a warm welcome and a warm open fire. Friendly staff and amazing food. Would highly recommend the Guinness and Treacle Brisket. Will definitely be back to try and work through the huge menu 😋

We had lunch for 5 people, food served was excellent, I had duck breast,very tender, but there were ONLY 2 SLICES OF duck breast,accompanied with an equally small portion of dauphinoise potatoes, £22.95, had bigger starters. My wife ordered Brisket on mash potatoes, delicious, but again small portions, Excellent food, great service, we have been eating here on and off for 30 years, Very disappointed with size of the portions, The bill came to £ 173 .95 All 5 of our group left feeling hungry, A far cry from the old Rigby arms.

Had Christmas lunch yesterday afternoon absolutely first class food and service. Everything was quality, the turkey was succulent and the veg cooked to perfection.

Had dinner with a friend here and really enjoyed it. I had king prawns for starters, then battered haddock and chips and finished with a chocolate brownie with ice cream and all were lovely. The premises were also very well maintained and clean. The staff were very friendly and efficient and we didn't have to wait long for our food. So had an excellent experience all around.

Comida deliciosa, tenía queso y pastel de cebolla, patatas fritas mushy guisantes y salsa vegetariana, todo caliente y servido por personal amable y servicial. Mi amigo filete ale pastel también era muy bueno, porciones generosas. Pedí que rechazaran la música de fondo, lo hicieron de inmediato. Vamos a visitar regularmente en el futuro, ya que el pub era cálido y alegre. Vale la pena reservar, ya que es popular para el almuerzo. También me di cuenta de que un artista local muy conocido muestra hermosas pinturas de colores.

Brilliant meal and very friendly staff

Our first visit here after many years, and was delighted to see, that although it has been refurbished, it still retains its traditional charm. Sunday lunch was excellent, my sticky chicken starter was one of the best I have had for a long time. We shall not leave it as long before we return again.

Good beer and food, although not quite as described on the menu. Service a little slow, but it was Saturday evening. Food prices reasonable for the quality, except starters are a bit pricey. We'll be going back.

Had a wonderful lunch. The smoked haddock starter on the specials was fantastic and the scotch egg which my husband had was delicious. All home made. Mains were fantastic too. Would highly recommend

Debido a las críticas fabulosas que estaba deseando comer en el Rigbye Arms, pero estaba muy decepcionado con la comida. Pedí la ensalada griega con pollo para un plato principal. El pollo era suculento pero insípido, la ensalada griega era diminuta y no había aderezo para ensaladas, en absoluto. Si una ensalada es una principal, debe ser una porción sustancial. Como todavía tenía hambre compré pastel de queso de postre. Ni siquiera era tarta de queso, era una base de galleta con algún tipo de crema batida en la parte superior. Era como si un estudiante de tecnología alimentaria de 11 años hubiera hecho que ese fuera el estándar. Mi amiga con la que estaba realmente disfrutó de la suya, pero la mía definitivamente no estaba a la altura. El servicio fue educado, los alrededores eran agradables. No volveré.

Food is lovely with generous portions. Unfortunately service wasn't as expected

Llamamos (a regañadientes) de camino a casa desde el hospital; estoy muy contento de haberlo hecho. La última vez que estuvimos allí los dos dijimos “nunca más”, ya que esperamos y observamos mientras todos eran servidos excepto nosotros, nos hemos sentado y ordenado antes que la mayoría. Sin embargo, escuché que el Rigbye estaba ahora bajo nueva dirección. Nos recibió un amable barman / gerente. Como tengo un apetito muy pequeño pregunté de qué tamaño era el pez pequeño con las papas fritas Fish n. Nuestra orden fue tomada rápidamente por una encantadora joven sonriente. Los dos teníamos fish & chips, el marido tenía el grande, el pequeño era más que suficiente, de hecho no pude terminarlo. Ambos muy sabroso y muy bien presentado, sin duda volveremos un día pronto. Muy recomendable.

Went for lunch with a friend. The food was excellent and the young staff serving could not have been more helpful and pleasant. The food was plentiful and reasonably priced. Will certainly return.

Went for Sunday lunch , had roast beef , with side of honey roast parsnips , absolutely faultless , fantastic meal followed by superb lemon tart

Not good. Long wait for main. Chaotic atmosphere which was mainly due to families not supervising children and being very rowdy and loud - but pub management clearly not confident enough to intervene. Small toddlers stood on windowsills against windows which in itself is dangerous, and being encouraged to by their alleged supervising adults, and screaming etc - awful , hectic noisy ! Felt like my £100 would have been better spent elsewhere - it’s a lovely pub but young staff are probably beyond managing this sort of clientele and struggling. Food wise: Told us soup would be one flavour(vegan basically) yet it was a totally different soup! Not sure how you can’t know what single soup you are selling that day. Food wasn’t great. Gravyless steak pie. Lots of gorgeous steak but dry as a bone. Too many chips.

Really nice atmosphere, and food was good. It was really busy so service was a little slow, but that was ok. Overcharged on leaving by about £30.... I would give it another go just be more careful on order and bill.

Now serving good pub food Great for general dining and a quick pint but also have a dog friendly room Which is also good for walkers and hikers !!

Took my wife for an evening meal and was very pleased that we chose the Rigbye Arms. I haven’t been for a few years but heard it was under new management and had been refurbished. From the moment we arrived until it was time to leave, we loved the friendly atmosphere and the lovely staff. Traditional pub restaurant decorated tastefully. Food and service couldn’t have been better. Scotch egg for my starter was one of the best starters I’ve ever had. Tried the cock and bull with chips and rice which was exceptional. I can’t wait to return and will highly recommend to all our friends.

It was cold and no heating or fires lit, a drainage smell in the side room where we were sat. I had Cajun chicken from the lunch menu which I’ve had before and was delicious but today it was cold and dry as if it had been pre cooked and chip were hard and dry. I did tell the waitress, thought we may have got a free drink or dessert as a token gesture but nothing, won’t go again anytime soon.

Not been for many years but decided to stop here on our day trip round the area and so glad we did. Been taken over by new owners but still kept the great food and great prices. Cracking service, great food made our day out a proper treat, we will return

Pop in for Sunday lunch just on spec and they were able to provide a table .The staff were lovely and welcome. Menu was varied, they had proper chips not those triple cooked chunky things .I hade the Beer battered Haddock and chips followed by Lemon Tart.Dad had Broccoli and spinach soup followed by Rhubarb and ginger and Black forest ice cream. John had Steak and ale pie and Apple and berries Crumble with custard. Everything was cooked well and nicely presented, I would definitely recommend a visit

Absolutley lovely food - Have been several times but this afternoon visited with my mum & her friend. We had goats cheese Bon Bon’s & Duck Spring Rolls (Gorgeous!) followed by the fillet of salmon - it was huge ! The veg was so nice and fresh & the sauce was beautiful ! Service fab as always - thank you

Overall a very nice place, the quality and portions were very good. We had Sunday roast and I can highly recommend. The only negative for us was the service isn’t as top notch as the food is. We will revisit and suspect the not so great service yesterday was hopefully a one off.

Stoped coming after original owners let it go down hill. Decided to visit and we will definitely be coming back!!! Absolutely loved it and all credit goes to Joe, behind the bar, a lovely young man, who was very welcoming and helpful!! Will definitely be visiting again!! Xx

An absolute gem, the new landlord and landlady have done an outstanding job turning this pub around. As a local we have visited frequently over recent months, the food is delicious and the staff are just amazing - special shout out to Helena who works really hard and always has a smile on her face, a true hospitality professional. Would encourage everyone to give it a try again!

Proper well thought out menu. Food delicious. Even the vegetables matched the meals you ate!!! Rare indeed!!! Only one negative. The young bloke serving reached right across the table to take my plate away. He should and could have just walked round.. Very popular place, not surprised.

Looked forward to going here having seen online pictures etc. Place paints a good picture, food is abysmal, service isn't any better, and worse of all they've the nerve to over charge. Do not fall for what you see on social media, its a shocker

Lovely pub - nicely decorated with cosy real fire in the centre! Great menu with lots of choice. We both went for the cheese and potato pie - which was delicious. Homemade with a side of fresh greens and chips! Gorgeous. We also managed to squeeze a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream! Yum! Staff and friendly and attentive! Great Place - wish it was my local!!

We were very disappointed with the menu. We understand the pub has changed hands but unfortunately the fantastic game menu and specials are no longer available. We ordered from the Sunday lunch menu and the level of food really didn't match up to the previous time we dined there. It was such a shame the main course was so disappointing. The staff are absolutely fantastic, extremely welcoming and attentive but the raw side dish of cauliflower cheese only to be returned cooked once we had finished our main course was another let down., the gravy wasn't very nice at all and sort of destroyed what was an average roast. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious and the pate starter needed a lot of seasoning. Having had such a disappointing meal it is unlikely we will return unless the Game menu is returned and adequate chefs are able to deliver good flavoured food

Decided to try here again, now that it is under new management - what an improvement! The atmosphere was lovely (back to feeling like a welcoming village pub) and the food was delicious. We shared cheesy garlic bread to start (yum), I had the chicken bacon which was of restaurant quality and my husband had the steak and ale pie which, again, was very good. We will definitely be back!

Nice and easy place good food 👌

The new owners are to be congratulated on an excellent renovation, an extensive menu, well-trained and attentive servers. Our first impression on entering was that the restaurant so much more comfortable and cleaner than we had found on previous visits during the time of the previous owners. This was our first visit since they re-opened and was a last minute booking due to family arriving from the USA. We will definitely be back.

Had light bites fish and chips. Could see as soon as it arrived chips were awful. Dry hard and tasteless. Should never have come out. Couple opposite complained about them as well. Batter on fish wasn’t crispy. Didn’t eat chips and sent back. Staff were brilliant. They actually informed other diners they weren’t serving the chips as not up to standard. Was offered sweet or coffee. Had a coffee but would have had one anyway. On paying the bill they charged me full price for the meal even though I complained and didn’t eat chips. Said they didn’t charge for coffee. Wasn’t 100% and didn’t think till I got home . I paid the full amount. Wouldn’t recommend.

Fantastic food, lovely staff and atmosphere great country pub

First visit in a very long time. Did not disappoint and so glad we came. Service from staff was excellent from the minute we arrived. Comfortable, cosy and welcoming. Tomato soup as a starter was so tasty, good size portion with crusty bread and butter. Garlic bread was a man size portion and also very good. I had a chicken roast dinner - half a chicken cooked to perfection, four delicious vegetables, mashed and roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding and stuffing. Gravy and condiments completed the dish. Could not fault any of it. My partner had a beef roast and the meat was cooked, carved and presented perfectly. The portions were ample. Thankyou Chef. The cost matched the quality, and all I can say is; you get what you pay for and more. We will be back and certainly recommend. Enjoyed the experience, it was well worth a visit.

Just returned from a lovely lunch at the Rigby Arms. Six of us all enjoyed the delicious food which is very reasonably priced with the light bite menu exceptional value. The whole experience was very enjoyable in a beautifully decorated dining room with lovely staff. It was our first visit but we shall be returning very soon.

Went past it as didn't look open, but glad we went back, got a lovely warm welcome and served with drinks straight away, I had a club sandwich which was absolutely mint,my partner had a different sandwich which was just as impressive, well worth a visit

Brilliant pub great gardens great beer and food

First time at the Rigbye Arms and we were delighted with the lunch. Sticky chicken salad absolutely delicious as was special of sirloin steak with Brie and chips with salad and ciabatta. Good value for money and excellent service. Thank you for a lovely lunch.

Heard good things from a few friends about the rugby’s arms and decided to try it out as it was only around the corner. The food has improved astronomically, defiantly worth the trip out and will absolutely be making it my local

Nice comfy pub very relaxed atmosphere.Didnt have food as the kitchens were being refurbished as the place as new owners.Were told be back serving food about April.But did have a nice glass of wine.Lovely helpfull lady behind the bar.will deffo be going back when food back on.

Had a lovely time and meal at Ribye Arms, not been for a few years, hasn't changed, still a lovely 'proper bub', cosy and can't fault the food, so nice, lovely owner and staff, well worth a visit, will be back again soon, check out the menu, proper Lancaster and proper Game, as well as pub grub.

Excellent service, excellent food, good choice of beers, lagers, ciders and spirits. The soup and roast beef dinner was to die for. An absolutely delicious array of desserts and puddings also. Well worth a visit.

The food was OK, its a nice pub in a nice place . Could just do with a bit more atmosphere for it to be a 4 or 5

Really enjoyed our visit here. We went for Sunday lunch. Set in a lovely location. I rang to book at 3.30pm and a friendly member of staff took our booking for 6pm. We arrived and was shown to our table. All the staff was smiley and friendly. They pointed out to us the specials board, Sunday dinner board and desserts. We stuck with ordering the Sunday lunch and it was a winner. Piping hot, fresh and very tasty. We asked for a jug of extra gravy, as we like a lot. Portion size was rather large. Not complaining but glad we didn't opt for a starter. Perfect. There was room for dessert (gotta be done after Sunday lunch) we opted for blackcurrant pie and ice cream. Oh so yummy! Was a nice and peaceful atmosphere. No music which we like. Would definitely visit here again. Especially to try the other items on the menu as it all sounded so delicious. Can't wait.
