We always visit here when visiting Edinburgh on a couple of nights for our evening meal (as we have a Flaming Grill close to us at home and know the brand). It’s not far from the city and we like a change from the tourist restaurants and bars in the city. We’ve always found everyone to be very friendly and this latest visit was no exception. There is a good range of drinks and the food is served hot and in a timely manner. We will definitely be back again on our next visit to Edinburgh.

Awful place. Basic food served without flair or care. Staff so obviously didn't want to be there. A trap for poor, unsuspecting tourists (locals would not patronise). ONE TOILET, DISGUSTING. NO LOCK ON THE DOOR, GRIM, DIRTY, HEALTH HAZARD. A horrible experience.

The weather was awful, really grim and we were passing through Saltcoats. The Salt Cot would have to do for a coffee to escape the wind and rain. Bad call. The pub was as tired as we were. The staff were doing their best in very trying circumstances but they were facing an uphill task. The furniture has seen better days, the carpet hadn't had a clean since, well, it looked like forever. If a pub has ever fallen through a net, then The Salt Cot is that pub. The Wetherspoons franchise really needs to invest a few quid in the pub to bring it up to standard. We quickly drank our coffees and headed back into the monsoon. It was the sensible option.

Had lunch here on a quiet Wednesday afternoon. Sits on a busy corner of the main street but once inside it opens into a bar area and good restaurant area and garden overlooking the river( and boatyard). Menu has a good selection of classic pub food. Took a little time for our meal to arrive but as is was freshly made this was not a problem. The boatyard burger was one of the best burgers I have had in years and my wife was delighted with the chicken pie with mash and fresh veg. The chef knows how to cook!! If you are in Girvan this place is worth a visit for the food and the view.

The new Brasserie is really nice and beautifull furnished. The food was excellent and the menu had a good set up. We had a chowder and the scampis as starter, the duck and the chicken balmoral as main and the panacota at the end. All beautifull served and very tasting. A real good experience and we will come again, thanks

Overpriced, needs a real menu. While nothing wrong with the quality of the food, the combinations just didn’t work and resulted in a taste mess. I think the “chef” maybe needs to taste his own food. Had the Moroccan lamb. Which came cold, not helped by the ice cold cuscus which seemingly just came out of the fridge, buried under that was my single sprig of broccoli, again cold. While cuscus can be eaten cold, then that’s a cold dish…everything else should be cold, you can’t mix it with lamb and gravy. Add to it fresh mint sprig that overpowered the entire dish, destroying the lamb flavour. When you charge £25 for this dish at the bar rather than the restaurant…your delusions of “restaurant” quality foods stands out. It’s a £12 dish at best and even then it’s below parr. It just doesn’t work. The lamb was fine, but for the love of god, put it with traditional hot veg and maybe some roast potatoes.

What is with the new 'MUST DO' of bringing your pet dog along with you into a restaurant or cafe for tea and cake? My friend and I found it REALLY disturbing today having some dog yap-yap-yapping within the Restoration Cafe whilst we - and the rest of those within the cafe - were attempting to relax and enjoy their 'coffee and cake' and conversation . DOGS INSIDE A RESTAURANT OR CAFE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED - unless, of course, it is an Assistant Dog. Quite apart from the natural hygiene reasons, the dogs themselves which had been brought inside such an environment looked most uncomfortable, and I'm sure would MUCH rather have been back in the familiar surrounds of their own homes. What has happened to Britain all of a sudden?... that everyone has to have their pet dog dangling on a lead from their wrists like some fashion item when they go out to tea??

Nice eatery at the end of the road --- literally! We were in the Road End Cottage across the way - so had to eat here upon arrival on a Saturday night. Good service - nice food. lovely view of harbour and when it gets dark the fairy lights are a nice touch.

A beautiful restaurant in the beautiful Fife Arms. We have wanted to dine here for a long time so made the trip for a celebratory birthday lunch and it was so worth it! Food was delicious (yes a little pricey) but you are paying for the dining experience and the service to go with it. We also had a little wonder around the hotel - we plan to stay over next time!! A must visit while in Braemar! @eastontravel709
