Fortrose Cafe

Black Isle, Highland, <20£
09/08/2019: We stumbled across this delightful cafe after a morning of dolphin watching. We are a tricky family to please - a vegan, coeliac and fussy teenager. However there was no shortage of options on the menu for everyone, the staff were helpful, pleasant and thoroughly aware of special diets. We fed well, were extremely well looked after and even left with cake. Fantastic.
01/08/2019: This place is an absolute gem. Offering a take out service as well as a sit down option. Both are equally delicious. I love the fact that my daughter can have her favourite meal for breakfast; chicken and chips. The wee jimmy is great and so are the baps. The coffee is perfect for any coffee lovers and even better after a night of windy camping.

Glenfinnan Station Museum Dining Car

Caol and Mallaig, Highland

The cafe at the Carnegie Hall

Inverness Central, Highland
17/08/2019: On a wee road trip from Beauly, we discovered this lovely place for lunch. The staff were fabulous, friendly and welcoming. Food was delicious, especially the home baked scones. Also love that the tea is served in china cups. Absolutely highly recommended.
26/07/2019: Had lunch in this community place and the service is amazing. Lovely friendly staff and swift service despite being busy. The Cullen skink was the best I have ever had and the carrot cake was good. Do go and afterwards try the lovely beach.

Birsay Bay Tearoom

West Mainland, Orkney Islands
16/08/2019: Very average and very over priced. £8.40 for a small jacket pot with beans and cheese? Really? The other food we had and saw was also not up to what you'd expect for a place so highly recommended. Very busy and tables packed in so book in advance of you want to get a place. Lent a bit of an unrelaxed feel when there are people queuing in the corridor and looking in to see if you're nearly finished. But hey, that's normal if you've been waiting at while. On the plus, lovely staff and great views but not somewhere to go is you're on a budget or like great food.
16/08/2019: Lovely tea room in Birsay, the staff are very helpful and the food is great, however, it may be necessary to book a table as it gets very busy so you may have to queue for up to half and hour, but well worth the wait. They are closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

Fjara Cafe Bar

Lerwick South, Shetland Islands, <20£
17/08/2019: Walked around the coast to this cafe. Has a great view, attentive staff, good menu and nice atmosphere. Food was good.
17/08/2019: I really wanted to visit here due to reading the reviews, so having been on a long walk around the nearby coastal path, I popped in. As i wasn't hungry, I only had an iced coffee which was very nice. The food looked amazing, I only gave 4 stars as think i need to eat to give it 5. Will return if i come back to Lerwick.

Barra Airport Cafe

Barraigh, Bhatarsaigh, Eirisgeigh agus Uibhist a Deas, Eilean Siar
14/08/2019: After walking along the beach we needed tea, coffee and a bite to eat. Service was nice and friendly and food great. Reasonably priced. Great view out of the window. Recommended
08/08/2019: Il costo per 3 persone mangiando due zuppe e un insalata(tutto con ingredienti ottimi) è di 25 pounds, il posto pulito e con una vista pazzesca sull’aeroporto.

Househill Courtyard Coffee Shop

Nairn, Highland
10/07/2019: Outstanding place to stop for a cuppa, snack or meal. Also great shop on site as we. Lovely food presented in a way that’s pleasing to the eye and palette.
05/06/2019: Fantastic little place to stop for lunch or just coffee and cake. They do the best baked potatoes EVER! Reasonably priced and great service too.

Am Politician

Barraigh, Bhatarsaigh, Eirisgeigh agus Uibhist a Deas, Eilean Siar
14/08/2019: We finished the last long cycle day of the Outer Hebrides and we were going to have dinner here but decided on a lovely lunch instead. What a friendly and welcoming staff in a charming village. We each had a delicious seafood platter for our starter and the biggest most delicious scallops for our main. What a great way to end a wonderful week of cycling. We definitely recommend booking in advance if you want to eat here (which we highly recommend) as it does fill up with visitors and locals). They had Scottish music playing and the atmosphere, ambience and views all excellent.
12/08/2019: Probably our best meal in the two weeks that we were in the Outer Hebrides. The main course sea-food cocktail was excellent and the scampi was real chunks of fish rather than squiddly little bits of nothing in breadcrumbs. Very dog-friendly and great view of the bay. Make sure that you book though.

Plockton Inn

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, Highland
15/08/2019: I was hugely disappointed with the food in the Plockton Inn My sons and I decided to try it as the reviews were positive however the food was terrible . The "crackling on the pork belly was so tough I could get my knife through it and the dish was tasteless and my sons fish dish was dry and overcooked . I didnt think you could go wrong with a cheeseboard but the clumps of cheese provided had just I think come out of the fridge and were solid (including the Brie ) Again tasteless If the Plockton Inn was aiming to produce food that was dry ,tasteless and overcooked they achieved that with every course The was our most expensive meal of our holiday and definitely the worst. On a positive noted service was good Staff were pleasant
08/08/2019: The food was delicious at this inn. But the service was a little lacking but it could have just been a bad night. All our meals came with gaps and being outside meant some had to start before all the meals arrived. However, the chargrilled langoustines with a delicious buttery dressing were incredible. Best thing I ate on holiday! Also the view from the front decking area is to die for!

Museum Cafe

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, Highland
16/08/2019: This is a pleasant cafe with cheerful staff and enjoyable coffee and cakes. The old station has been made into an attractive place to visit.
07/08/2019: We sat at a table on the platform and enjoyed it so much we went the next day as well. I enjoyed my soup and square sausage roll and the ice cream sundaes were very good.

Sea Breezes

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
17/08/2019: Petit restaurant, carte limitée, nourriture excellente, service sympathique, ambiance populaire très agréable. Il faut réserver au moins un jour à l’avance. Prix très correct.
17/08/2019: On the plus side, the food was absolutely delicious. We had seafood chowder and a courgette-tomato tart for starters, and herb-crusted cod and trout in a provencale style. Unfortunately, pretty much everything else was disappointing. We had booked way in advance but still had to wait a long time to be seated. Our table was very small, and it was right next to two others, and there was loud background music so all we could hear was the music and other peoples' conversations. It was so uncomfortable we didn't stay for dessert. Would not go back.

Peerie Shop Cafe

Lerwick North, Shetland Islands
15/08/2019: We went quite early in the morning when it was still fairly quiet and had lovely hot coffee and fresh scones - would definitely recommend a visit.
14/08/2019: I ate here more than once during my 4 days in Shetland. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is fantastic. Hot coffee, hot chocolate, soup and cranberry and Scottish brie paninis... YUM!

Whaligoe Steps Cafe

Land Caithness Ward, Highland
08/08/2019: After visiting the steps we were glad to see the cafe was still open. We stopped off for a coffee but they looked to be serving nice lunches and cakes. Good views too. Definitely worth stopping off after walking all those steps!
06/08/2019: What a fantastic understated place. The setting is only surpassed by the food which is unique, interesting, tasty home cooked & using local fresh ingredients. The chef obviously cares deeply about what is served & how it is presented. The homemade breads are wonderful. I only wished we lived nearer. Not to be missed if you are in this area.

Cullen Ice Cream Shop

Keith and Cullen, Moray
01/08/2019: We went in and had a double cone each. The choice of flavours was great, and the quality was excellent.
14/07/2019: Our grandchildren loved this shop lots different ice cream nice staff who were patient when children couldn't decide on which flavour to have would recommend
