Seven Stills in Moray

A truly unique experience made so special by Rose and Patrick. Enter through the beautifully tended back garden into this “secret” restaurant. The decor is eclectic, international and quirky but warm and inviting. Our food was some of the best in Scotland - venison, haggis (yes, the best haggis we had in Scotland was prepared by a French chef!), and the partridge terrine were all spectacular. Don’t expect an effusive American friendliness, but an honest goodness and kindness. Patrick came out after the meal to explain where he shopped for his ingredients and how he lovingly prepared each dish (some of which took several days of preparation). Rose and Patrick made my husband’s sixtieth birthday our most special evening in Scotland. We will absolutely return on our next trip to Islay.

Exquisite. Wonderful dining experience hosted by the very talented Patrick and Rose. The food, flavours and ambience all contribute to a phenomenal evening. A mandatory visit that won’t disappoint.

When you have a chef that cares about food, and a hostess that care about people. you know you have a winning combination. Food was amazing - compliments to the chef! And the make yourselves feel at home experience - makes it all amazing. Well worth a visit.

Found this place on TripAdvisor and were glad we did. It was like entering a small private club. Very intimate with amazing eclectic decor. The husband and wife owners felt like old friends by the time dinner was over. He’s French and an amazing chef. She’s British and great fun. Best dinner we had in Scotland.

You won't get in here without booking and need to choose your menu a couple of days in advance (so the chef can prepare the best possible food). But it is worth it. Fantastic fresh food prepared with local ingredient wherever possible and attention to fine detail. Great service, reasonably-priced wine/drinks too.

Extraordinary place run by extraordinary couple - and the food is fantastic. If you're in this beautiful part of Scotland and if you can get in, you must try Patrick and Rose's restaurant. It's tiny but I have never seen decor like it. The two of them are a double act for the small number of guests - but never doubt that great food is at the heart of it. Everything is made from scratch using local fresh produce, so orders have to be 48 hours in advance. Nevertheless Rose suggested that if we were full after mains we could miss dessert. We didn't! Goats cheese and onion soup for starter, boeuf bourguignon for mains, poire belle helene and selection of French and Scottish cheeses for dessert. Boeuf bourguignon was sensational using home made gravy, lovely mash potato and perfectly cooked vegateables as well as tender beef well seasoned.

My husband and I had the most wonderful dinner at Seven Stills on our trip to Dufftown (we live in Los Angeles)! It was perfection - even better than I had anticipated. Rose and Patrick open up their home and kitchen and make you feel loved from the moment you step in through the lovely yard to the minute you leave. Rose is an incredible hostess and Patrick is your quintessential French chef. The love he puts in his food is evident and the way he talks about food is just awesome. We intend to visit Rose and Patrick every time we make it to Dufftown. We fell in love with the town and intend to be back as often as we can!

The coziest, snuggest, most delicious dinner possible. Rose and Patrick have created an absolute dinner haven in Dufftown. The food is exquisite and of Patrick’s own creations. The atmosphere is welcoming, relaxing, and homey thanks to Rose’s design which includes overstuffed armchairs and a boa-d ostrich statue. If you have a chance to eat here while staying at or near Dufftown, you must do so.

The best thing I can say about this restaurant is that they squeezed us in even though they were full up. We might as well not have bothered. Two of our starters were quite poor, while the mains were average, at best - including the local favourite - Haggis. We were promised excellent fare from a French chef, but the final output was terrible. The service was businesslike, almost bordering on rude and supercilious. And the food is not cheap.

When you enter Seven Stills, you are warmly welcomed into the home of Rose & Patrick and their home happens to be a beautifully decorated bar & restaurant in the centre of Dufftown. From the moment you arrive you know the experience is going to be so far removed from anything you’d normally expect in a very good way. The wine list, whisky & general bar selection is well curated and well priced. The food is absolutely outstanding. The Tajin to the Beef Bourgignon and beyond are amazing. Ingredients are well sourced from the Burgundy snails (escargot) to the beautiful selection of local and French cheese to the locally produced and sourced ingredients. Go for the food, stay for the love that you can feel from Rose & Patrick. They are truly masters of hospitality.

Five stars! Amazing food, thoughtfully planned and perfectly executed (I especially loved the venison lasagna). Fun, unique decor featuring a cosy wood fire on a cold night. The couple who run this place are fantastic: a chef from France with passion for food and his English wife with a great whisky collection and a talent for making every guest happy and satisfied with their dining experience. Chef Patrick and Rose, thank you for a beautiful and memorable meal and evening!

We made a reservation for the first night of our arrival at Dufftown, but apparently that evening the restaurant was closed. Because the error was with them, they welcomed us and treated us as if they were open. We were the only guests and had a wonderful diner, only to be excelled by a couple of treats in the restaurant's 'whisky salon'. Around the fire place, we enjoyed a fantastic selection of Scottish drams before heading into the stormy night. Even though there isn't much choice on restaurants in the area, this is worth the detour in any case. Hopefully I can get back in the next few years, but hey...Brexit makes it more difficult.

Me and my partner visited this evening for food and had a great 3 course meal. Rose is so welcoming and lovely and Patrick’s food was delicious from start to finish. We can not recommend this enough and will be visiting again when we are in the area.

We were very excited to check out this restaurant based on the reviews we found and it absolutely lived up to its hype. What a wonderful experience from start to finish. The atmosphere that Rose and Patrick have built in their little restaurant is unique, delicious, and hospitality at its finest. My husband and I were delighted to dine in their establishment and would recommend it to anyone passing through speyside.

We went by on the off chance we could get a table and after having drinks in the pretty garden we were able to get a table. The four of us were warmly welcomed by Rose and enjoyed a delicious dinner. Patrick the chef found time to chat with us too even thought the restaurant had become quite busy by then. This little gem was such a delightful find, ambiance, food and drink and excellent service and I highly recommend it. This was our first visit to Scotland and I would definitely go back the next time we are over there.

We were recommended the Seven Stills from our AirBnb hosts and it did not disappoint! We had the butternut squash and sweet potato soup to start which was delicious and unique with ginger and orange being two of the ingredients! I then had the Portsoy fish Ragu which was fantastic and my partner had the lamb shank which was falling off the bone! Had a delicious desert to finish and some lovely gins and beer throughout the meal.Rose and Patrick were so welcoming and made for a great experience, which felt very safe during COVID-19 times. Can't thank them enough for making our first dinner out of lockdown so memorable.

I don't usually leave reviews however this was so good I had to share! The evening started with a warm greeting from Rose & Patrick. We felt completely safe with all the covid regulations in place. The food was absolutely delicious the best I have had in a long time . The freshly homemade bread with the spiced butternut soup was fantastic - a favourite of mine. We then had the haggis, neeps and tattis followed by creme brulee & whisky ice cream which was amazing. They have a huge whisky selection! A very relaxed and cosy atmosphere with brilliant food. This is one of the best dining experiences to be had in the UK. Steeped in history, proper Scottish fare With a French flare, and a whisky menu thicker than the bible. From calling up and booking a table, through to the petit fours, it’s as if you have been invited into someone’s house for an exceptional home cooked meal. Rose is the highland equivalent of a sommelier with her knowledge of the local malts and Patrick, the chef, ensures that you can taste the effort and passion in every single course. An additional massive thanks has to be made to all the efforts that had been taken by the hosts to get things started again post lockdown.If in the area this place is not to be missed but if you’re looking to capture that quintessential Scottish dining room experience, I suggest you make the extra effort to get here. We will definitely be doing the same next time we are in the highlands!

Visited as the restaurant had just cautiously opened at the end of lockdown. They had waited an extra week or so and were easing their way back into business.The food is wonderful Rosamund was delightful and when Parick the chef appears you soon realise here is a chef who loves his food and ensuring you do too. Can not recommend this place highly enough.

1st trip out post lockdown took us to the Seven Stills in Dufftown. Ros & Patrick pulled out all the stops considering they had only reopened 2 days before and were working under some surreal circumstances. The options for dinner were really good and 3 out of 4 opted for the seafood platter. Amazing, plain and Slsimple.... Amazing. That combined with some great craft beers and a whisky menu running at over 300 different whiskies made for a very memorable evening.Slàinte.

This is a jewel of a dining experience. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. The food had tastebuds dancing with delight! A wonderful finish to a wonderful day. Owners obviously love what they do.

The place is quite small but very nice, great whiskey options and the food is wonderful. The owners are very attentive and helpful. It's always good to make dinner reservations, it is usually very crowded. If you are in the area, go!

We visited on 25th October while up in Dufftown to watch our local football team play Dufftown F.C. on 26th.We arrived without booking and were met with a friendly welcome.My wife and I shared a bowl of Crab soup which was delicious.For mains my wife had Fish pie which had a fantastic selection of fish and seafood and was topped with creamy mash,she said it was fantastic.For me,as the chef is french,it had to the Beef Bourguignon.I was not disappointed,chunk of tender beef in a delicious sauce with a hint of red wine,superb.The chef comes out to chat to diners,and you can sense his passion for food,and he is a charming individual,so all good.The only thing I noted was that all the dishes on the menu fall into the one pot category,and there is not the option to have a freshly grilled steak or a grilled fish of some kind.Maybe the owners could look at that for the future.However,I'm being picky,but just a suggestion.After all a ribeye steak and French fries would still sit well on a French based menu.

I was staying in Dufftown for the Dramathon and I loved Seven Stills so much that I had my pre and post race meals there. I had the vegetable quiche and fish stew which were both hearty and delicious. Two of the guests in my group had the tasting menu which I would highly recommend. Every single person in my group thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The haggis with the whiskey sauce was also a big hit. Besides the amazing food, the service by Rose and Patrick is also what makes Seven Stills such a gem. They are very warm and friendly and really make you feel at home. The restaurant is small yet cozy and the whiskey collection is amazing. I would come back to Dufftown just to dine there again.

After completing the half-marathon Dramathon I wandered into the Seven Stills on the off-chance I could get a bite to eat. I have to say it was a fantastic decision. Such a treat after a bit of a gruelling run. I had the lamb shank and chocolate fondant both of which were really excellent. The owner and French chef could not have been more welcoming and really looked after their guests without being at all intrusive. Really interesting to hear the chef describe passionately in detail how his dishes were made, the ingredients used and where they were sourced from. Would highly recommend this place, it was a great find for me and if I do the run again next year, it will be the treat I will look forward to at the end.

A real gem of a place, with delicious food and very friendly service. We were in town for a few days, so we ended up going twice. The manager/main server was very warm and welcoming and the chef often came to check on us. It was great to see the passion the chef had for food and it really showed in his wonderful dishes! I tried the lamb lasagna, even though I’m ambivalent about lamb and it was delicious! There is also an extensive whisky menu. They don’t have a lot of space, so if you can book ahead, I would do so. We hope to make our way back to Dufftown to visit this place again.

Er du glad i whisky og god mat er dette stedet når du er i Dufftown. Hyggelig atmosfære i koselige omgivelser. Anbefaler lammeskanken, den var nydelig. Innehaverne gjorde sitt ytterste for at gjestene skulle føle seg velkomne, og det greide de.300 forskjellige sorter whisky gjorde ikke inntrykket dårligere, snarere tvert imot. Very helpful and friendly staff Food amazing Our party highly recommended Crab soup, fish pie, lamb shank and the haggis dish.All our party were overwhelmed by choice on desert menu which were exquisite.It was so good we are booked up for the following night during our visit for a post marathon meal

This is a small and historic inn/restaurant in Dufftown. Excellent fresh food and atmosphere. This was a real treat. I recommend you book a table as it is small.

The French chef and his wife do an amazing job creating an intimate experience. The restaurant is small and cozy, there is also a small area with couches that is inviting for a before or after dinner drink. You will enjoy the chefs detailed description of each entree, some he has begun to prepare days ahead of time. If there is a dessert with a sampling of desserts, order it. Not only is it fun to eat but the chef will describe each one and in what order to eat it in.
