Wasn’t sure on the ordering process due to current circumstances. The sign did say take out only but that was it. We stood at the door. Was not acknowledged or welcomed in. We just took it upon ourselves to go in and eventually were asked what we would like. We ordered but wasn’t sure if we were to wait inside so I had to ask. Was told very curtly to wait outside. We didn’t wait very long and the Cullen skink was top notch. I would say the food is great but expect a frosty reception with much rudeness. Not what you would expect during this difficult time when businesses are struggling. Good friendly customer service goes a long way.

Mid afternoon seeking food in Cullen. This appeared the only place. We had to order our food and wait on the street for 20mins or so but it was worth it..Wandered down through the viaduct arch and sat on the green admiring the sea.The sandwiches were really good and the fillings slightly unusual and all the better for that. Those who had the skink loved it.i

I have visited this cafe twice the first time I had Cullen skink soup which was lovely and full of potatoes and fish. The second time I came I had a panini which was average and on the menu it said it came with a salad but it didn’t however it was nice to get a whole bag of crisps.

Took the Cullen Skink as takeaway, the reason I have deducted a star is that they charged the same as if you had eaten it at the cafe. Would have preferred a roll to oat cakes with it. It was very tasty and they could make more of the fact that it is award winning.

My usual 9 piece breakfast, which I had for lunch on this blustery Wednesday afternoon. Nice and cosy in this smallish kitchen.I like it well done, a glass of milk, brown bread toast and butter, all for under £8. It keeps me going easily for the rest of the day. As we entered Lily's Kitchen the proprietor didn't even say hello . We asked if she served breakfast and sat down but there was a cold draught so I shut the door. Without saying a word the owner immediately left her frying pan to come out to open it again. We therefore moved to a different table out of the draught and I temporarily placed my handbag on a chair to the side of our table. Again the owner promptly came to move the bag and pointedly plonked it down on the seating bench next to me. She was extremely curt whilst taking our food order which was of average quality and price when it arrived. We had chosen to eat here because of favourable reviews but our whole experience was poor and we certainly would not return to Lily's Kitchen.

The place is small - only three or four tables - so get there early. We went for lunch and the place was full by 12.30pm. The atmosphere is very friendly and the food of the highest quality - especially the Cullen Skink (World Championship winner 2018!) which is a kind of soup based on smoked haddock and potatoes and definitely tastes a lot better than it sounds - a meal in a bowl.

Cullen Skink, that lovely potato soup with smoked haddock, is Lily's specialty. They do, after all, hold the world championship title for 2018. I just had a bowl of the soup and an Americano. The coffee was great and I was mystified by the brown cube that was set along with my coffee. It was "tablet," she said it was a bit of a sweet for the coffee. YUM! I want this at home. I thought it was brown sugar, but it was a bit of sweet, somewhat like fudge, that was just perfect with coffee.
