Orrin Restaurant & Bar in Moray

Been here a couple of times and never been disappointed. Both the staff and the food are excellent. The night we were there there was a guitarist playing which really helped the atmosphere. It won't be our last visit.

Excellent mid week dinner. Very attentive staff which was apparent as soon as I stepped inside the restaurant. If you want lots of stodgy food spilling over your plate this place is not for you. If you want well presented, very tasty food give it a try. I am a first time visitor to Elgin, I hope to be back and Orins Restaurant will be on my preferred list ..

Appalling food well overpriced. One of the starters consisted of one scallop. The venison main was a monochrome mass of tough meat. The portions were a joke. There is fine dining and bad dining.

My husband and I went to Orrin for our 6 year wedding anniversary. I knew it would be upscale but wow. Not only was it pretty inside but the staff were very attentive. The food was absolutely incredible. I got the gnocchi which was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and soft inside. Paired with the most amazing sauce. He got the sirloin steak and said it was the best steak of his life. For dessert I got the brownie which was so decadent. He got the white chocolate cheesecake and from his face you could tell he was in heaven 😂 we both talked about the meal the whole way home and hours later. Perfect way to celebrate.

Stunningly good. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner for four and were blown away by the quality of the food, drink and service. We started with some cocktails, all of which were delicious and beautifully presented. For starters two of us had scallops which were perfectly cooked, one had the confit duck leg which was to die for, and I had the pork belly which was everything that you want pork belly to be; soft and mouthwatering, with just enough crunch on the top. For mains most of us had the venison with celeriac dauphinois. It was gorgeous and rich. We also enjoyed a very good value bottle of wine which was recommended to us by our brilliant server who looked after us and the different dietary needs of the group with great ease. For dessert some of the group had cheese, some sorbet, and I had the berry mouse. Everyone was delighted. Couldn’t recommend this more. Considering we went all out on the food and drink, and considering how good it was, I feel that the meal was excellent value.

My fiancée and I went to Orrin for lunch a wee while ago. I wasn't meant to leave a review but we ended up in Wetherspoonin Elgin last night and it reminded me of our visit and interesting little contrast between two places. So fine dining Orrin did not have alternative to cow milk, preventing my fiancée from having a cup of tea at the end of the meal and at Wetherspoon they were happy to provide you with oat milk as much as you wanted. I founded it rather amusing. Food wise Orrin was awesome, service was questionable. One server was simply rude, the rest of the staff were great. When you go for a birthday meal to a place that claims to be fine dining it all adds up. Will give it another chance and see what happens, but Sundancer is still our favourite local.

A disappointing evening indeed. The salmon ravioli lacked any discernible salmon taste, and the thick dough left much to be desired. The pasta-making skills need improvement. The Venison Wellington was overcooked. The sirloin beef was tasty but presented unimpressively—two large spoonfuls of mash with meat on top, falling short for a £40 dish. Despite the pleasant dessert and adequate service, the overall experience was disappointing, especially considering the £160 price tag. There is room for improvement, Chef.

Another fantastic meal, smoked mackerel starter elevated by accompaniments. Beef cheek wellington , pineapple baked alaska and cheese selection superb. Service was faultless & friendly and all requests were met. Highly recommend cant wait to be back.

On 11th November, 2023, we celebrated our wedding at Orrin Restaurant, Elgin. We had use of the Private Dining room, which was set to perfection, incorporating personal details and thoughtful touches. This venue is PERFECT for a small, intimate gathering (we were a small group, of 13). From the start of planning, Ellis and Andy (owners/chef), made the process a breeze. Their communication, attention to detail and adaptability was second to none! They really went above and beyond to ensure our wedding day went without a hitch - a truly personalised experience (they catered with ease for one vegetarian member of the group, and were willing to ensure any/all dietary requirements were catered for). We were waited on by Jacob, and the other lovely team members at Orin Restaurant, throughout the afternoon/evening. Jacob, thank you for being such a significant part of our day - thanks to you, and the team, we wanted for nothing! Your professionalism and kindness were so appreciated. The food was... simply outstanding... the cocktails were also delicious! We cannot recommend highly enough. If you're looking to host a wedding meal, or another personalised event, look no further. This restaurant was recommended to us and we managed to get a last minute booking. Staff were pleasant and helpful and food was fantastic. They serve local produce and my husband had scallops followed by venison wellington which was a treat to eat, I had the sirloin which again was great. We never have a desert but were tempted by the bramble and toffee tart with raspberry sorbet, this again was amazing. They also make a great cocktail. Would highly recommend this restaurant if you are staying in Elgin.

Excellent food and service. Visited on a Wednesday when they do a fixed price set menu and have live music. Our food was absolutely delicious and the singer was great too! I thought it was exceptionally good value given the standard of what we ate.

I don’t often write reviews but we had such a fantastic meal it is worthy of praise. We visited Orrin with our small children (4 and 7) and although it’s not a restaurant designed with a family focus we were made to feel so welcome. Our waitress, Emily, was absolutely outstanding and looked after us effortlessly. Most importantly the food was delicious and of a standard rarely seen in Scotland. Photos of the cauliflower veloute, beef shin wellington and pina colada baked Alaska don’t do them justice! We attended an early sitting so the value was very good. The decor and ambience are spot on. Thoroughly recommend.

We could not have chosen better! The ambience is warm and welcoming and calm, nothing was too much trouble and the service we received was outstanding, pleasent and friendly without being obtrusive. The young lady who served us for the evening was highly knowledgeable on all aspects and a total asset to the restaurant. The food was totally exquisite and to be honest blew me away! It's on a different level with tastes lingering long after, buttery overtones to the pork belly which melted to the pure richness of the beef cheek Wellington and so much more I could add....but find out for yourselves, this place is not too be missed. The chefs deserve a Michelin star or two.... Enjoy your meal.

Great value lunch and Wednesday evening menus.

Absolutely lovely Sunday brunch - the food was top, drinks were fab, and the live music was a nice touch. The service from Hayley and Lyndsey was amazing - very attentive and personal. Can’t wait to come back!

Ahhh-mazing! That’s all I can say. From the ambiance to the service team to the phenomenal food, Sorrin is not to be missed. Michelin quality where you can taste the chefs passion in each bite. Our group of 4 had a fabulous meal at Orrin - our best so far as we travel around Scotland. Our early arrival was graciously accommodated (we had expected to sit at the bar), the French martinis were stunning, the staff charming and the meal delicious. Live music night was a bonus.

Really top class food and service. We've been here twice and each time the experience was superb. This is a fine dining restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere, although as was previously mentioned, the background music was a little intrusive at times, but not bad enough to mention to the staff.

Had the most delicious lunch yesterday, food was not only amazing but the portion sizes were very generous. The male waiter gave us a 5* experience, he was particularly attentive and welcoming! Thank you very much!

One of the best meals I have had and that includes Michelin star restaurants. We were celebrating my Birthday, on arrival we were great warmly I was wished happy Birthday and shown to very comfortable booth. The food was outstanding Andy Fyffe is a real talent and Elgin is very lucky to have a Chef of such a High calibre. Lovely Birthday card on table cocktails and wine were superb. The restaurant was very busy but lovely vibe and staff were efficient and charming. The live music was an added bonus which we really enjoyed. At end of meal we were presented with a delicious complimentary desert. Well done all, a night to remember we will be back soon.

We had a 2 course lunch here and it lived up to our high expectations. My friend is gluten and wheat intolerant and vegetarian, this wasn't an issue. Wine and Cocktails as delightfully delicious as the food. We will definitely be back. The service is definitely appropriate to the high quality of the venue.

As always, Orrin delivers on service and quality of food. Can't recommend enough.

Four of us went in for lunch. The service was very attentive and the food was very good. The price was pretty reasonable for the quality of food on offer and we all enjoyed our choices. My only niggles were that the music was a bit too loud and a bit incongruous (dance music). Also, while the food is excellent I wouldn’t describe the lunch menu as ‘fine dining’, it was a bit too rustic for that (e.g. the large serving of fish and chips).

The food is amazing, but the service is so bad it is so frustrating, its just not worth going to Orrin. Especially for the price you are paying. We had reservations and arrived on a Friday night. The restaurant was about 75% full. There were 4 people in my party, and one of my guests had a milestone birthday. They asked for details via email in advance, yet nothing was done at all for the birthday celebrations, even though they were reminded multiple times, and they specifically asked in advance. When we arrived, they told us they accidentally gave our table away, and seated us at another table (this was an unneccesary addition). It took them 10 minutes to get us a menu and we had to ask. We were served bread before we had a menu. It took 35 minutes to take our drink order and 45 to take our meal order. The Bartender actually acted like it was a surprise we wanted a drink. He was cordial, but not friendly. We didn't get our food until we had been seated for an hour and 20 minutes. We had to ask repeatedly if we wanted anything and were treated like a nuisance when we did. We ordered a bottle of wine and the bartender opened it like he had never opened a bottle of wine before. We actually had to go up to the bar and get our own water more than once. 3 of the wait staff and the bartender had a lively conversation behind the bar while cleaning glasses in front of everyone (the bar is in the centre of the restaurant). They seemed to be having a great time just chatting. There was a large party who had to go up to the bar TWICE to order drinks and bottles of wine from their room in the back, and they were treated like they were interupting their conversation. We honestly didn't even know what to say, the service was so brutal. I've never seen anything like it. I feel terrible for the Chef because the food was really incredible. Despite our plates being burning hot like they had been under heat lamps for a long time, all of our meals were amazing. Each of us was very happy with our order and our meal. Sadly, despite the food, I would never recommend this place to anyone. The service was probably the worst I have ever experienced, and defintely not on trend with the other incredible restaurants in Scotland. Not worth the price or the frustrating experience.

Dined here previously & food & service have always been great, but think we must have visited on a bad day!! 2 hours into our booking & we had only eaten one course which for the price of £40 per head was slightly underwhelming in both quality & quantity. The whole experience spoiled our evening out & not sure we will be choosing Orrin for any future celebratory meals. Very disappointing 😢

Very good value for money staff very polite

We made a last min reservation for a family Sunday lunch on our way to Inverness airport at the end of a holiday weekend and were blown away by the wonderful service, utterly delicious food, gorgeous decor, and lovely soap! Orrin is a very special place.

Had lunch at orrin 1 july and was very disappointed with the whole experience. Ordered cocktails while sitting at window tables, when they came we were shown to our table where we ordered our mains-they came -very small portions one had beef shin and couldn't see hash brown hidden under carrots-very small! A friend had same main last week and hash brown was larger then. We weren't asked if we wanted wine list, out cocktails were finished and again weren't asked about more drinks until we were nearly finished out sweet. Poor service and staff are losing business money.will not be back for a while

Have been here a couple of times previously & service & food have been excellent. Very disappointed on this visit. We sat with a menu for 25 minutes before anyone came to take our order. The starter I chose was not available & I was told they had "run out". So we decided to go straight to the main course. Another 45 minute wait before this was then served to our table. Our table was booked for 8pm & by 10pm we had only eaten one course. It transpired that there was a private function for 12 people being held. This had started before we arrived but clearly they were given priority for the entire evening to the detriment of the other tables in the restaurant. This is supposed to be a premium dining experience but sadly the service was poor and even the food wasn't up to par at £40 for a main course. We are really not sure that we want to return here. It was our wedding anniversary and sadly put a bit of a damper on the day for us.

We visited with high expectations due to the last visit being amazing. This time however, not so much. Staff knew little about the allergy information of the menus which led to us being told different things by different people and having to clarify several times....

We enjoyed a wonderful tasting menu dinner here. Each course was a delight and the accompanying wine flight was excellent. We will definitely return. It was very reasonably priced considering the outstanding quality.

Excellent lunch today at Orrin! Accommodated myself wife and baby on short notice and with a pram.Fantastic team they have put together there. Everything we had was delicious. The two servers who took care of us were polite, attentive, and friendly! Always a pleasant experience. Look forward to visiting again soon

Had the most amazing meal at Orrin tonight, the food and the service couldn't be faulted. Big shout out to Chef Andy who was wonderful and Ben who was so cheerful and attentive! We will definitely be back and recommending to everyone!

10 of us attend Orrin for a friends birthday Brunch, which was a set menu. I was disappointed that due to not drinking (driving), not a local, the cocktails included on the set menu could not be deducted from the bill. Another 2 friends were not drinking. The option was to order Mocktails, not something I would order. Unfortunately, due to this, I felt discriminated against. The staff were pleasant although the service was slow. I know I won't return. Our bill in total was £399.

Up from London visiting good friends in Elgin, my first visit to this restaurant and what a good choice we had the lovely round table in the window, Great menu… Great staff especially our waitress Sophie nothing was to much for her like the rest...

Tiny but quirky. Lovely staff and very friendly, with food being rather good. Gourmet as it is, doesn't come cheap but its worth it.

Fabulous meal to celebrate 54 years of marriage. Salmon Tien with avocado puree. Delicious flavours and lovely on the palate. Lamb noisettes that melted in the mouth and pulled lamb leg with rich flavour complemented by goats cheese bonbon. My wife had sea trout dish packed full of Mediterranean flavours. And a fine wine selection that was excellent too. A repast to remember!

Excellent night out with a group of friends and family. Quality food, wine, cocktails, and service. The meal was not without a very slight mishap but the staff could not have been more accommodating and apologetic in resolving. The kind of service we sadly don't...

Managed to rebook an earlier cancelled booking for my wife's birthday. It was such a lovely thought to have a birthday greeting at the table on our arrival. The service was excellent and welcoming. The food was utterly exceptional, gorgonzola starter, salmon tartare starter, Roe Deer mains, and heavenly desserts. Thank you, Orrin, for making such an effort.

Food was amazing. A little pricey. Service was a bit shabby tbh. Staff were friendly but took 15 mins before we even got our drinks ordered and told at that point we only had another 1 hour and 45 mins before we had to leave. Service was a bit slow which meant we felt rushed to eat faster and then had to quickly have our last drinks. Seemed to be a lot of missing ingredients for cocktails and desserts but it was still lovely. Wasn’t that busy so not sure why the service was a bit off.

Lovely place. We were in for a 2-course lunch and all 4 dishes were excellent. Wine was also pretty good. Fast and friendly service. Dietary requirements catered for without issue.

It’s nice that this place is trying. A fancy dining option in Elgin, but there are definitely ways to improve. The Good: We were pleased to see a Vegetarian Tasting Menu which we both had. Pea veloute was delicious. Wine was good. N/A beers were good. Good portion sizes. Nice waiter. Nice manager. The Bad: we are from out of town and arrived an hour early and asked if we could be seated and were met with an unfriendly attitude. Why not just offer us a table in the bar with some snack options? My pasta portion was absolutely enormous - it was tasty, but huge. American huge. We asked if we could take with us the half I didn’t eat and were told that they don’t have the license to allow food to leave their premises. We found this quite ridiculous. If you’re going to serve American size portions, then have the American methods of having containers available to take away leftovers. As someone who is vehemently opposed to food waste, seeing half my truffle pasta get dumped into the bin was painful. The mushroom toast was flavorless - had no salt or garlic butter as advertised. When we wanted to order a drink at the bar pre-dinner, we were upsold a special cocktail and then found out after I agreed to order it, that no one had ever actually made it, one of the liquors used in it ran out mid-pour and was not replaced to give me the full amount I shouldn’t received, and it cost £15 which was not disclosed when I agreed to ordering it! Desserts were £11 for a eton mess which I find super overpriced. We were too full to order dessert, but an eton mess should cost about £6 max. Also, why not include a dessert option on the Vegetarian tasting menu? Veggies like sugar as well.

Lunch today at Orin, was absolutely fantastic. Excellent service, the food was to die for. I can definitely recommend the Beef Cheek. It is so tender, you don't need a knife. We will be back soon.

Fantastic food, lovely atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, great wine list. We had a really lovely time there.

Nice food just a bit unimaginative considering the price. Most thing were well done just a bit uninspiring. If you like more traditional food well cooked you will like it, but we expected a bit more for £35 a main. The creme brulé was also really badly overcooked and needed something to cut through it, not vanilla ice cream.

I have eaten here & it was delicious but on this occasion I was in to buy a voucher for my son & daughter in law,the girl at the till was very friendly

We literally stumbled across Orrin at lunch time looking for lunch. Sure, it looked nice from outside and a bit more fancy than we were looking for but we wanted to go in all the same. The food was way better than we had ever expected so we decided to book back in for tea that night. Service was really lovely, food was tasty and well presented and the wine was also good. Desserts were decent too. I'd highly recommend this restaurant and will without a doubt visit again next time I'm in Elgin! Get yourself booked in and enjoy!

We had lunch here today and it was an incredibly good experience from start to finish. A lovely restaurant, warm and genuine welcome, good ambience, efficient and attentive service…..and food of the highest quality. The three course lunch was very reasonably priced, and the £4 supplement for the biscuits and cheese was absolutely justified. We will return!

Went to this restaurant on others recommendations. Food was superb, but was very disappointed in table service. Waiting service below average, no regular waiter/waitress at table, no attentiveness table. On ooking at Web site was expecting much better standards.

Visiting family who recommended lunch for our anniversary. Couldn't have bettered the food, drinks and service, and we are picky critics. Thanks for a great afternoon. We will be back.

Great place to eat. Never disappoints. I would give 5 stars. The reason I haven't is because the price per course in the evening is expensive for the local area, but again, the emphasis they put on using the BEST ingredients probably explains why. It's somewhere to go for a special occasion but not somewhere most people would be able to visit and have a few courses on a weekly basis. They do however have a great lunch menu, can't remember the price for the two courses but it is a good deal.

Firstly, this must be the best restaurant in Elgin. Why oh why it's not No1 on Trip Adviser is a mystery to me. The food is excellent, the service attentive and the atmosphere what you'd expect in a place of quality. I was there for Sunday lunch with some of my family and we all had the 3 course menu. If I was really critical we all agreed the first course was a bit slow but when it's this good we can wait. Please visit this place and sample the delights of a restaurant that if you don't use you Will lose.

Food was very nice, not expected in Elgin

We are from Chicago and read about Orrin prior to our trip. We were traveling with extended family and chose Orrin for a special celebratory dinner. It was an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. Ellis helped us up-front with all the arrangements. The private dining room was lovely! The staff were professional and polished, welcoming and warm. (Thank you Adam, Meghan, Jacob and Jordan!) The food was excellent -- locally sourced, classically prepared with a modern edge. Delicious! Chef Andy, you and your team are doing a tremendous job with this new endeavor. Collectively, you made our evening entirely special. Thank you! We cheer you on!

Just had lunch here, best lunch we have had in this area as on holiday. Food was exeptional as well as staff and decor, great price for the quality of food and staff were very knowlegable in all courses even the minger cheese which originates from Tain, but truffle cheese is a must, and drinks, a visit to this place is a must.

As you approach from a distance, the facade of Orrin is unassuming enough, it blends in with the town of Elgin, and you think perhaps the well worn, elegant green store front is yet another whisky store... But as you approach, the interior becomes clearer, and you are taken away from the quaint roads of the Scottish town you find yourself in... It's suddenly the 40s or maybe the 20s... the art deco aesthetic is subtle enough that it's both classy and timeless. Soft jazzy yet hip music filters in through unseen speakers, and a welcoming staff offers your a hand crafted cocktail. "Where am I?" you think to yourself. You're in Orrin. And you are most certainly welcome. Orrin is a transportive experience in what some may consider a far off location. The atmosphere is subtle yet magical and effective. It's classy without being stuffy. It's fun without being boisterous. It's an incredible break from its surroundings without being disruptive. In short, it's perfect. And you haven't even tasted the food yet. Head Chef Andy is doing something special in Orrin. He's taking favourites, (scallops, monkfish, and pork belly among many others) and turning them into something new through a kind of magic that is beyond my understanding. It's food that welcomes you with a warm smile, asks you to have a seat, and then surprises you over and over with how inventive, delicious, and familiar it all feels. Not unlike the Orrin itself. The Orrin is a gem, a restaurant that would be a success in any city in the world, and it's nestled in the beautiful town of Elgin. It's proof that the world is still exciting and unique, something you can't predict or plan for, something you should just repeatedly say yes to. Orrin is a massive yes for me. It should be for you as well.

Wow. Had lunch there today for the first time. Stunning start to finish....food, service, chilled atmosphere. Orrin, Elgin has been waiting a long time for you and you didn't disappoint 🥰

Wonderful food and amazing staff, always worth a visit

The food is fantastic. We had the tasting menu and would highly recommend it. However the service was very slow The staff are lovely but front if house is a bit chaotic. We will go back again.
