We were freezing, and nipped in for some food and drinks before our train back. The staff are lovely, very welcoming and friendly and the food was very tasty. I got the haggis, neeps and tatties and my boyfriend got the venison stew, both were delicious.

We ate here 3 times while staying nearby. Very friendly owners and young staff, and very efficiently run. We had a range of meals over the 3 visits, all good quality no frills pub food at a sensible price. Good atmosphere in the bar area, good local real ale also. Pays to book as seemed very popular on our visits.

After a day at the highland wildlife park, we were looking for somewhere for dinner, but hadn't booked anywhere. Luckily we timed it right and the Glen Hotel were able to squeeze us in on a busy Saturday night. Great atmosphere and banter from the staff. Food was excellent and our son loved his dinner too. Recommend to anyone visiting the area. Hope to return on our next visit.

The location is lovely, premises clean and welcoming. The food is very much under par. I had the vegetable curry, which was so sweet and contained no spices whatsoever, it wasn't pleasant to eat. The young staff work desperately hard to please the customers.

My brother and I were visiting the Clan Macpherson museum and feeling hungry as we'd missed breakfast, when he suggested we pop in for a light lunch as it was a place he'd previously visited. Well I'm glad we did because whilst we only had sandwiches and soup (perfectly acceptable, actually nice) it was the hospitality which really struck me. From the moment we approached the bar and the friendliness of the gentleman host who took our drink order and took us to our table, to his wife who offered us some off menu dishes and was herself very friendly engaging us in conversation I realised this was simply one of the most amenable places I'd been in a long time. This summer has been tough for a lot of venues and I'm sure the Glen has been no exception, so I wish them well and have no hesitation in recommending a visit.

There is a nice spacious car park and also plenty of on street parking. Booking is a good idea for a table, as they can get busy. First off, despite reading some reviews about dogs, it is NOT dog friendly, as they’re not allowed inside. Staff are plentiful and eclectic, and are very attentive. A real genuine feel is given and they seem to take real interest in you and your needs - as opposed to automated questions and disinterest as you can sometimes encounter nowadays. Food is of good quality and is reasonably priced. All in all it’s certainly a good place to dine out if you’re in the area and want straight forward honest food and a setting.

A typical Scottish bar with nice restaurant. The owners as well as the staff is very friendly and answered all our questions about Scottish Whiskey with passion. For dinner you should make a reservation since the restaurant is every evening fully booked. The Menu is nice from fish ‘n chips to burgers. The food is fresh and very tasty. We have spend 3 evenings eating various dishes, which were all tasty.

Myself and 3 friends, were staying in the local area,we decided to go out for a meal,we booked a table for 7pm,upon entering the hotel we received a very warm welcome, and was shown to our table,we decided to have a drink before our meal. Excellent menu, and a good choice of food on offer, also our host explained about the chefs specials,we didn't have long to wait for our meal to arrive, plenty of waiting staff to serve us,everyone was friendly and helpful, also we were not rushed with our meal. The restaurant was busy, and the service was 1st class,we felt our custom was valued and we were so relaxed,so we decided to order sweets and extra drinks. The food arrived hot and good large plates of food, our host asked if everything was ok and if we required anything else. No trouble in parking the car,and you can have a drink outside, the whole place was spotless. The staff behind the bar were excellent, greeted us with a warm welcome, and smile,no sooner had we sat down when the menus arrived, and the various food on offer was explained to us,we were kept informed if the food was spicy or if we had any other preferences regarding items on the menu. All togther,we had a really wonderful night, large selection of food and drinks on offer, and good banter with all of the staff. Plenty of seating, and room to move around,we all had three courses each,l would strongly recommend a visit to this estabkishment, you won't be disappoined. Hats off to all staff for the good service, and welcome , as tourists and first time customers,we hope to return again soon.

We had another lovely meal at the Glen. We have been coming here for a few years now during our annual trip to Kingussie. The owner is always so warm and accommodating and can't do enough to make you feel welcome. Service is very good and attentive - despite there being a large table of 20 in the private room. We shared nachos (which were halved so my husband could have his half dairy free as he has a dairy allergy) - the nachos were delicious. Then I had fish and chips, and my husband had a burger. Our daughter had garlic bread followed by sausage and mash and really enjoyed hers too. Very reasonably priced and really enjoyable. Would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting or passing through the area, best place for miles (including aviemore!)

This seems to be the busiest restaurant in Newtonmore and has a very good atmosphere. We ate here once during our stay in Newtonmore but when we tried to eat there on our last night we were turned away, curiously, as the head waiter seemed to think we could get a table. On our first visit the restaurant was full but happily a table became available as we walked in. The staff were without exception working their socks off and very efficient and helpful. The ambience was great, a crowded restaurant full of happy noisy people. Unfortunately, the food was indifferent to poor, all of us had different dishes and all of them were without merit. It is a sham as this restaurant has a lot going for it. For us the ambience overrode the food but without the excitement of the crowd this would not be the case. Overall we enjoyed our visit but that may also be because it was really the only 'game' in town. Bear in mind also that every restaurant in Newtonmore stops serving at 8.30pm at least did when we were there in July.

Strong tourist trap vibes...they pulled the bottled water trick on us. To be clear, this review is for the hotel's restaurant. Most of the staff seemed kind and accommodating when we arrived near closing time; it was mostly empty and they seated us promptly and were pleasant. The food was mediocre; the kids ordered pasta which they enjoyed but was pretty standard pasta Bolognese; my wife and I got venison casserole (which was a bit of a sweetish stew with a few pieces of venison in it--which was tasty and tender enough) and a wild mushroom pasta (which has only a few pieces of mushrooms on them). It was fine enough for mediocre pub fare; I would have given the pasta 2/5 stars and the venison maybe 3/5. But then they couldn't seem to help themselves but to pull the bottled mineral water bill trick (we were dressed for hiking so maybe they marked us as suckers when we walked in?). They charged us for four bottles of mineral water when we'd very clearly ordered tap water when they took our drink orders, and when I pointed it out on the check the guy started to argue with me. I just paid it; I have better things to do than argue over 8 pounds for the water trick. When the waters came to the table, it was already poured in four glasses, and we never saw a bottle of mineral water (that's your first warning sign). We're right next to the Cairngorms for crying out loud; the tap water is bottled water quality. Like, why do this? You're not located right next to the Trevi Fountain, so reputation must matter. It's the first time after two weeks of travelling all over the UK that someone tried to pull the bottled water trick on us in a restaurant. Most other places we've gone made a point of forecasting to us that they would not pull the bottled water trick, by offering us tap water explicitly when they took orders, and double-checking that we wanted bottled mineral water and bringing the bottle to the table when it was delivered. It would have been a perfectly fine and forgettable meal if they hadn't gone for those extra 8 pounds at the end (when people aren't trying to nickel and dime me, I'm actually a very generous tipper for service; I would have tipped as much as they tried to charge for water if they had behaved more responsibly). Whoever made this call--I'm guessing at least a manager level--should be reprimanded, and the man who brought the check should know better than to press if a customer objects to the bottled water trick. Just stop it. Any regular traveler you pull this trick on is going to be furious and it will catch up to you in the end. If you look at their responses to other reviews here, you'll see some suspicious behavior, like claiming that the review was for another place and posted on this page in mistake or that nobody from that name had come to the hotel/restaurant. To clarify, this is for the restaurant in the Glen Hotel right across from the Clan Macpherson Museum, and I most definitely dined there tonight.

I ate here with my son when we were both very hungry after a long day’s bike ride. Another comment has described food as ‘hit and miss’ and I think we unfortunately got a miss. This is a shame because I genuinely want businesses to do well and other customers appear to have had good experiences. The food was okay but lacked basic attention to detail. We ordered garlic bread and two burgers, so I wasn’t anticipating fine cuisine, and to be blunt, at the time we just needed some calories. However, the garlic bread was pretty tasteless, mostly discerning some fairly uninteresting oil, and a distinct dearth of garlic. The burger itself was overcooked. It came with an indifferent coleslaw and a pretty shocking green salad. The salad appeared to have come from a pre-prepared bag of mixed leaves that was past its best. A good deal of the lettuce was browning on the cut edges and, if it was cut in-house, it had been sitting around for an age. In either case it needed to have been better checked. Okay it was edible, but I wouldn’t have served that to my friends. It just left me feeling underwhelmed given this is not bargain-basement prices even though honest pub food. The atmosphere was friendly and the bar staff efficient, though the young man who served our table looked like a frightened rabbit when I said ‘thank you’. I felt sorry for him as he appeared to need some basic training on how to engage customers. The décor is cosy and welcoming overall but felt a little faded. It was a pity, because it wasn’t bad, but it could have all have just been so much better with just a few tweaks. It’s a great location and clearly provides a much-welcomed service overall. I want to be able to say good things, so we will likely try again, and just say there may be a consistency problem at times.

After a long day spent with a mix of walking, sightseeing and driving, we came upon the lovely little village of Newtonmore. Advised by the landlord at the caravan park just in the outskirts of town that we should go here for a meal, we walked the quick 10 minutes up the road into the village and found the pub. Upon entering expecting a quiet rural country pub, we were warmly greeted and pleasantly surprised at the number of people here! It seems like the place to be. I cannot commented the publican (or manager?) A lovely gentleman, who directed us to the table, and made us feel right at home. Meals were warm and hearty and good for the soul, just what we needed after a long day, and the drinks came "freely" (we paid at the end of the night of course!). So very happy with our choice for dinner tonight and we can't recommend the place more!

There was four of us and the hosts make you most welcome, are very pleasant and really helpful and the meals were excellent. A full menu, with all dishes looking good, plus keep an eye out for their specials. Well worth a visit for lunches or evening meals.

We spent a week at Newtonmore in May of this year and ate at The Glen most evenings and were very pleased with the varied menu and specials board. The owner and staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was very well presented and hot and tasty.

A really good restaurant, great location, friendly, clean and warming. Great food. A shame though that it doesn’t open during the afternoons (although understandable given its location).

We stayed in Newtonmore for the week and ate at the Glen three times. The food was great quality, excellent service and very good prices. It was popular with visitors and locals alike and a nice bustling atmosphere. A must for your visit.

Have been going to this area of Scotland twice yearly for many years now and always make point of eating here a couple of times on each visit. Always had good service, generous portions and good hot pub grub every time. Must have been twenty times over last few years and never disappointed. Will be going again later in the week before going home.

Decided to eat out while staying locally in self catering, what a find. The place was recommended in our guest folder and was undersold as the6 stated it was good food. The food was more than good, service was excellent and the the buzz was great as well. Plenty of locals around, we will definitely be eating here again during our weeks stay.

Well run pub with excellent staff and a good ambience. Good choices of cask beers for those who enjoy along with the usual drinks. Pretty good choice of meals with specials on a separate board. Meals were served quickly and were very good.

Called in late pm, serving foid from 6pm, we got warm with a cuppa, and read and chatted till 6. Nice meal, warming and filling, just what you need on a winters day. Great service, hapy bar staff. We were ina van and ee calked back the evening following and asked if they would fill our water canister, absolutely no problem. We had a pint n chips, got warmed up, and then found a spot up at Ralia to sleep for the night. Great spot, simple food good beer and happy helpful staff, inthe height of winter. Minus 10 outside.

Previously came here in 2009 and had a wonderful meal. Wanted to return with our daughter. Food is just as excellent, a wide ranging menu, all great value. Wine was good, well priced and a good variety available. Highly recommend the pork belly special. Daughter loved her fish and chips! Staff were friendly and efficient. Will be back!

It's 18 months since we last visited the Glen and as we were staying in Newtonmore we thought we would go again for an evening meal. Not disappointed-- the haggis neeps, peas and tatties were delicious and this time we tried the burger sliders. The 3 little burgers were served with chunky chips and a lovely coleslaw. Good cappuccino too. When we are in the area again we shall certainly visit again.

Really enjoyed the food and hospitality when we went to the Glen for a family lunch. Although we did book they looked after us really well as we were a party of 14. The menu choice was varied and includes a healthy number our specials. Great value and friendly service we'll definitely be back.

After our 4 day canoe trip down the Spey river we were looking for a hearty meal with a cozy atmosphere. This ticked both boxes - I chose the vegetarian haggis and passionfruit pavlova cheesecake both of which I can recommend. My friend had the 'Glen sliders' (a trio of burgers) that she said were delicious.

View, atmosphere, staff, superb! But then on the other hand the cooking is not the best, I have never eaten such dry veggie sausages in my life. We still enjoyed the moment

We hadden na een lange reis niet meer de puf uitgebreid op zoek te gaan naar een restaurant dus we gingen naar de pub bij het station. Het eten was niet spectaculair maar voldeed.
