The Isles Inn Pub & Hotel in Highland

Looked like a good place for food and a beer. Oh dear….. what a disappointment, the restaurant was no reservations. Was seated at a table close to the open door, windy and where the smokers were. Asked to move to an alternate table to be brushed aside by the waitress. Awful attitude from her. My husband asked how long the wait was for food and if we could move to a free table, she said not long for food and was snotty about moving us away from the wind and stench of cigarette smoke. Food looked extremely unappealing when it came out. Decided not to waste our time in this awful place. Rude, unprofessional, dirty, not what it claims to be. Do not bother.

Came here for dinner. Don’t waste your time and money like we did. Not unless you like dehydrated mashed potatoes, unseasoned food - all of it. And boiled veggies - not a lick of butter or olive oil or seasoning on it. For what you pay here… it’s school cafeteria bland tasting food. And don’t be fooled by the menu listed on here. There are only about 4 starters and 5 entrees to choose from - some of which they run out of. They were out of 1 of the starters and 2 of the entrees during our visit. On a cleanliness note… the gents bathroom smelled so bad of urine it wafted into the waiting area. So while we waited 50 mins for our table we had the joy of smelling piss the whole time. I expect that since it smelled so bad 10-15 feet outside the bathroom that they don’t clean it very well. Friendliness - hostess was not the nicest. Waitress was nice but be prepared to wait for your check. Lots of ppl sat there waiting to pay for awhile. I don’t recommend spending your money here. Especially at the price range they charge. Don’t be like us

This place is solid 2 for dining. We ordered soup, burger and fish today. The soup was tasteless, the burger and fish were tasty but way overpriced. The toilets look worse than gas station toilets, pretty disgusting. Bottom line - not recommended.

Rooms are teeny-tiny but clean. The food in the pub is delicious!

Stopped in Portree after a walk for some lunch. This is a traditional Inn with decent pub food.

Effectivement il est difficile de trouver un bon restaurant ouvert et sans trop d attente sur Portree. Nous avons attendu seulement 5mn, le temps de boire une bière (liste d attente par ordre d arrivee ). Ce n est pas un pub avec une ambiance de pub. Côté restaurant quelques tables . Les plats proposés sont cependant bons : poisson du jour cuisiné avec des légumes ; et le burger local avec haggis. En revanche le dessert vraiment bof : 9£ , petit et pas ouf! Je ne recommande pas les desserts.

There is too much racial discrimination and racial discrimination. I am disappointed with this city. I drove here all the way from London. The British people I met before were all gentlemen, but I had a very bad impression here. Even the police were racist and refused to communicate with us.

Sadly we went today for lunch with our dogs. To say we were not made to feel unwelcome was the understatement of the day !! The food was lovely but the front of house service made us feel so unwelcome we didn’t stay for desert. Shame as a 3 course main meal was what we were after !

We loved fish & chips, so returned next evening.

Buena comida, gran cerveza, visitando Portree en febrero no esperaba no conseguir una mesa el sábado por la noche (tonto lo sé) , gracias por encajarnos. La camarera era genial y la comida llegó rápidamente. La comida era de gran calidad y las porciones eran perfectas.

Really incredibly typical. Exceptional pub atmosphere. Equally exceptional traditional cuisine. What an immersion in the life of this Scottish village so typical, so exotic. the rooms leave something to be desired but the rest is so good that it's part of the pleasure. We loved this atmosphere, this point of view, this change of scenery. The most typical place of our entire trip and one of the most pleasant.

We stepped in to drink and eat something. We waited 15 mins to get the order. After additional 15 mins, the waitress came saying that they had issues and lost our order. Taking the order again, at least we got something to drink after 30 mins we entered the pub. Fish and Chips was definitely great. The other plate was wrong: they brought a bacon cheeseburger to a vegetarian person :/ Nice pub, good food, service to be improved substantially, great position.

Everything is good, because the consumption in tourist areas is relatively high, and everything else is good. I had a cauliflower steak that was amazing. I can't say it was delicious, I can only say it was "very special." Ask the clerk to recommend a whiskey. It’s really delicious. It’s worthy of being a Scotch whiskey!

I ordered a drink with ginger beer, which the bartender said he could make for me. The drink then came with ginger ale, which has a significantly different taste. To my comment, he only answered, that he only had that. I would have liked it if he had said it from the start, then I would have taken a different drink. Plus it's not that comfortable, the whole thing seems more like mass processing. As soon as we had finished eating, the bill was placed on the table. The food was mediocre.

Went for dinner on the last night of our holiday and wish we had chosen differently. Waitresses all had an attitude, food was not fresh, dry and unseasoned and just generally not appetising at all. We left the majority of it on the plate, paid and left. Really disappointing experience.

Very central with parking space in front of it. Cozy and warm place although a bit too cold to be autumn. Typical pub menu but the haggis was AMAZING (on the pic). The steak pie was tasty and large in size. The burger was too plain and dry Prices around 20 pounds each for 4 people with 4 main menu and 2 shared appetisers. Friendly staff!

Very accommodating when fitting our large table of 8 in for an evening meal. Food was homemade and very tasty. They accommodate for vegans. Small eating area but well worth the wait for the table. Staff were wonderful. Would highly recommend.

This review is for the bar. I came in after they stopped taking guests for dinner, they had a list and needed to seat those folks before the kitchen closed. So I got a wee dram and stood by the bar, I asked if I could get a bowl of soup while I stood there having my whisky. This was not possible, but I understood it. Then the young man behind the bar came around and placed a chair in a corner for me to sit in. While sitting there and drinking my dram, he said he could put me in a small table if I only want soup. Sure enough that happened… the very kind and considerate hospitality really made my evening. I didn't catch his name, but what a great experience. I had a 2nd dram, and my soup at a cozy little table for one which was perfect for me. They didn't have to go to these lengths but they did. You bet I will be back…and I left a tip that hopefully conveyed my gratitude.

Everything about the place ticks all of the boxes for an overpriced tourist trap. One could not know the prices beforehand, and it's a place where you have to wait to be seated and only then do you get a menu and know the prices which sure enough are expensive for pub grub. I ordered a meal with which I chose Mash - of which there was almost no more than a garnish - this was for £18. The staff though were friendly and welcoming - but on a selective basis.

Great food. Ate twice when I was in town. Usually a wait for dinner, but you can always have a pint and wait by the bar.

There are no restaurant reservations, so you just have to wait and go in. It's cramped, but it seems like a place with lots of people and delicious food. The potatoes were really delicious

Ticks almost all the boxes as a pub but the fact that you can't have food if you want to sit in the bar area (except for a saucer of chips) rules it out for me :(

Great place for good pub food and local beer.

Unfortunately a big downgrade from 2022 to 2024. Stayed here in March 2022 and back then this would have been an easy 5 out of 5 for the food (had multiple breakfasts and dinners here) and the rooms were good as well. I returned twice after this and compared to my first stay the food quality and portion size has gone down considerably and from what I could see room prices went up as well. Made some good memories here but won't return. #sadface

Habiendo llegado tarde el viernes con tantos lugares cerrando antes de lo que estamos acostumbrados que necesitábamos una comida decente. Fueron muy serviciales dado que éramos cinco de nosotros. La comida era excelente, muy sabrosa y buenas porciones fuimos por la opción de pescado con papas fritas y pollo. Teniendo en cuenta lo ocupados que estaban el personal era muy atento. Nada elegante pero una experiencia agradable.

Pub casual en Portree. La comida era buena, la selección de cerveza estaba bien, y la música en vivo se sumó a nuestro disfrute. Recomiendo ir aquí.

Habíamos comido en el Pub un año antes y lo pasamos muy bien. En esa visita, cenamos pescado vegetariano con papas fritas, delicioso. El servicio fue muy agradable y servicial. Muy amable. Ansiosos por tener otra cena vegetariana de pescado con papas fritas, nos detuvimos en el Pub este año. Ha cambiado de dueño. Tristemente, la gente fue grosera con nosotros. Las puertas estaban abiertas de par en par. Faltaban 5 MINUTOS para el servicio de cena y nos dijeron odiosamente que nos fuéramos. Preguntamos si podíamos esperar ya que eran solo 5 minutos. La respuesta fue un rotundo NO. Antes de salir, preguntamos si el pescado vegetariano con papas fritas todavía estaba en oferta. El nuevo propietario esta vez dio un paso adelante y muy rápido dijo que NO. No servimos pescado con papas fritas. Su tiempo era muy altivo y goteaba de asco. Expresamos nuestro pesar por esta noticia. No pude resistir decir, en ese caso, que no volveríamos. Estábamos muy tristes de que un encantador pub tradicional, con un personal tan amable y acogedor ha sido destruido. Además, extraño el delicioso pescado vegetariano con papas fritas. 😢

I've never seen people be so professional and 'on it' considering the staffing levels. Whoever oversees the operation do yourself a favour and employ a couple of extra staff. It would ensure that your existing team aren't wrought out. The staff you have are incredible and working really hard to make each group feel special. The food was incredible too. Just maybe whoever owns it pop your head in.

We enjoyed our room upstairs and our dinners in the pub. Great food, very friendly staff, and you can't beat the location.

Absolute dump. Smells like an old folks home and has the atmosphere of a tramps funeral. Staff are rude and aggressive. Eye watering prices. Full of tourists. Better going to the other pub up the street where the locals drink. Avoid.

Called in for a pub dinner which was very enjoyable. The pub doesn't take reservations but we only had to wait about 15 minutes for our table. We enjoyed a drink while waiting. Good, quality Scottish food. Small number of tables, quite close together but it added to the ambiance. Lovely, friendly staff. Another good Scottish experience.

Quite a long wait for a table as they don’t accept reservations. Menu good and varied. Portion sizes looked good until our vegan option arrived. Very small dish and felt very overcharged and underwhelmed by the dish even though it tasted ok. Vegan chocolate cake desert was good though.

Don't bother with this. Barely any food for the price. Bad service, they rush you out as soon as your done eating. Go somewhere else don't bother with this place!

Visited the restaurant on a busy afternoon and did not have to wait too much until we were seated. The atmosphere was the usual loudy pub one. Waiting time for the main was a little bit too much. Food was ok, but nothing special. We did not try it, but Fish & Chips seemed to be a very popular dish around us.

Not alot of food for the amount of money. Service was not that good. As soon as your done eating you get the bill without asking basically shoving you out of the door. Take my advice, go somewhere else.

Food took 45m to an hour to prepare. Didn't get alot of food for the price. Tiny amount of Fries with a basic burger worth 10 pounds at most. Not the 17pounds. Service was not that great either. Would not recommend. Frozen pizza beats this in price and quantity. Edit this from 2 star to 1. As soon as our plate's were picked up we got the bill 1minute after. Not welcoming at all. Avoid this place as there are nicer establishments around.

The sign claiming "Your food is made fresh every order" is misleading. Our visit was a major disappointment. The service was poor, and the food was far from fresh  so don't lie... We visited the town today, sadly we didn't notice all the nicer places to eat and ended up here. For £16.95, I expected a quality burger, sadly this was not the case. The burger patty was super dry, frozen cheap crap for sure. There was a horrible sauce in the burger but the cherry on top of the pile of dog poo was the the fact the bun was frozen! Frozen and then toasted, it was super hard and tough on the edges and still really cold in the middle. Served with the cheapest of cheap frozen chips that were undercooked and mushy. The haggis tower tasted like a microwave meal, with the sauce being the only redeeming quality. Honestly, shame on you as an establishment to serve such a horrible burger at such a price. The burgers at Blackpool promenade are fresher and tastier than what you serve. A Rustler burger is better and fresher than what you serve. I'm sad to have visited here, please sort your mess out, it's not much to ask for to be served actual fresh food and by fresh we mean NOT FROZEN. I mean forzen burger buns, really? Maybe watch some episodes of Gordan Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares and learn what fresh means or take your sign off the wall.

EXCELLENT ADVERTISING We went there 3 times during our stay in Portree because the atmosphere is excellent. It's the best pub in the city, with entertainment, concerts, good beer and which also has a restaurant, for reasonable prices for the city.

Adapted gluten-free menu, the celiac in the family was able to eat a burger and potatoes made separately and it was very good. Very friendly and well priced. Oh, and they don't close the kitchen at midday. We ate almost at 4:00 p.m.

4 star hotel? Only in price. I’m sorry but I can only describe this place as a dump. It starts with the check in at the bar. There is no reception, only the bartender. The 10 rooms are above the bar. You get to them from behind the bar, then up a very narrow winding staircase. If you are elderly or remotely disabled, stay away. There are no amenities other than a teapot in the room. There are no plugs for charging. We had to take the plug out for a lamp. A few plastic cups. The mattress was worn and the linens decades old. The shower was a portable round thing with too small an opening of about 14 inches. I doubt even an average sized person can comfortably use it. Our tour left at 8 am, we couldn’t even score coffee and a bun for breakfast, which was strictly 8-9 am. Not a 4 star hotel by any stretch of the imagination. Go Elsewhere!

Un beau pub écossais qui fait aussi restaurant local. Se présenter bien avant 18h30 pour pouvoir manger avant 21h. Pas de réservation. Juste votre nom note par ordre d’arrivée et attente dans le bar. Nous avons bien mangé et bien bu. Le personnel était très sympa.

We had lunch, 2 fish and chips, 2 glasses of wine, two pints of lager. Rushed, faster than a fast food joint! As soon as we had almost finished eating we were presented with the bill without asking for it, we ordered another round. We were presented with the bill immediately, this is very bad hosting. Came across as greedy. Fish was okay, the chips were not the best. £16.75.

We found this place by chance on our walk through Portree and decided to go in and have a beer, and take the opportunity to have something to eat. The truth is that we loved it, a typical Scottish pub with delicious homemade food. We ordered the venison burger which was spectacular, they also had a delicious celery soup of the day. The only thing is that they don't accept reservations and you have to arrive and sign up on a list and they will call you, but there is nothing like waiting with a good beer.

Es uno de los restaurantes de Portree en los que no reservas, pero en lugar de hacerte guardar colas de hora y media, te apuntan y te dicen, aproximadamente, cuanto vas a tener que esperar. A nosotros nos dijeron 1:30h y no llegó a una hora, en la cual fuimos a otro bar a tomar algo. El servicio es muy ágil y sin lugar a sobremesa pero no por ello menos profesional. Los camareros muy amables y la comida en general rica. Pedimos una ensalada de queso que eran tres bolitas de queso sobre una salsa de remolacha que pintaba el plato, pero en lo demas acertamos 😅
