The mallard in Highland

Average food in soulless pub. Barman spent most of the time on a video call with a mate, even propping the phone next to the till while he served drinks. There were also quite a few loud, local teens turned up and he turned up the jukebox volume for them which drowned any conversations at the tables. Food was pretty standard fare and pretty over cooked. Burgers were dry, Mac and cheese was bland and veg was just heated up frozen stuff. Tables are set up around the edge of the pub so not a lot of interaction between punters and drunk, loud teens barging about didn't help the atmosphere either.

Stopped for a pint of Guinness before catching the train to Inverness. It wasn't busy and the atmosphere was pleasant enough.

Nice little local pub to visit during weekends, they have some live performances as well. Overall the best place for a night out in Dingwall if you don't feel like going up till Inverness.

Went here to watch a football match but the locals got the staff to turn the music up so loud my fillings were vibrating! Shame as the Guinness was great but couldn't have a conversation without shouting your head off. No sign of any food on offer so not sure it's still offered

Bar tender was very rude and could not wait to finish her shift, we went in about 2015 on the 19th October, felt like we were a burden

It said home made on menu. Frozen chips is not home made. Very basic for price. Would not go back for food.

Great little pub. Came here as a Neutral before a Ross County match and had a great atmosphere. Bar service was superb.

It's not fancy but a nice spot to have a pint and something to eat while you wait for the train. Lovely staff and delicious Steak and Ale Pie.

Great food and service - bit inconvenient that we were robbed at knife point there but the staff assured us that that's very unusual so you should be fine. We can especially recommend the Ale pie, that was lovely!

We popped in here for a late lunch. The food was good and the barman was friendly. He even brought water for our dog. With a pleasant atmosphere and good value food, this is well worth a visit. I'm sure it is a totally different place during a football weekend, but it was quiet when we visited.

We weren’t sure where to find dinner in this tiny sleepy town, after some googling and calling around we stumbled upon the Mallard and I am very grateful we did. The staff was incredibly pleasant and kind. Definitely tried to make sure we had the best experience possible, and we did! Would honestly go out of my way to go back to this place

On Saturday I was the subject to a rather unfortunate experience at the mallard thanks to a female bar staff member who could only be described as having a "can I speak to the manager" haircut. While I was awaiting access to the disabled toilet, said barmaid thought it would be suitable to highlight me infont of other pub goers and try to tell me that the disabled toilet was for use by those with disabilities only. While I appreciate said staff members expertise & teachings on when a disabled toilet should be used, I don't however appreciate being descriminated against because said staff member doesn't understand that not all disabilities are visible. Usually trips to the mallard are good, but this experience left a particularly bitter taste in my mouth and quite frankly isn't acceptable. Perhaps this staff member could do with some additional training to help open their mind a little to the conditions of others.

Decent on a match day for away fans.

Although we live locally we have never visited this pub before, decided to try it on Saturday with friends, very friendly bar staff, free snacks on the bar and to our delight, Kareoke!! It was a special event with Kareoke, quiz and disco. We had a couple of lovely pints with a tune at 4pm. Great fun.

Went in on Friday, had the steak and macaroni, absolutely brilliant. Best steak and great portion with a great price. Beer was great and macaroni was great too, see you soon

Rich really made my day when he agreed to host my 60th Birthday party at very short notice after another local hotel let me down at the last minute leaving me in a panic. Rich couldn't have been more accommodating or helpful and he tailored my evening to suit perfectly. The party went with a bang and everyone thouroughly enjoyed themselves. A huge thanks to Rich and all the staff at the Mallard for making the night a huge success! I am very grateful to you all.

Took a short drive off my road trip to have lunch and it was sooo worth it. The food was amazing and the owners were very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend it

Decent pub to watch football. Big televisions on the wall with sky sports. Prices are pretty good with a couple of pints for 8 quid upwards depending on the brand. Jukebox on the go. Very handy with the train platform right outside.

Nice little pub next to the railway station. We had a nice meal, good range of drinks. It was quiet when we were in late Monday afternoon, which suited us, but staff were attentive and super friendly, including tips for the rest of our trip round the highlands.

A warm welcome, good range of drinks and lovely fresh food with large portions. Dog friendly across the premises. We sat in a booth and chatted about what we’d seen in our day but on the other side of the central bar is the chance to watch trains come through the station. We had a number of drinks and 3 meals (2 adult and a kids) plus a portion of nachos to start. I had scampi and it was fresh and delicious. A strong recommendation to eat here if you stop in this lovey highland town

Went for a drink outside on the platform of Dingwall railway station at The Mallard. Service was excellent, we sat outside with our dog and the very kind young lady who served me brought out a bowl of water and a couple of dog biscuits for him.

Nice food and a decent beer all paid for at time of order. When I went to leave the owner challenged me saying I had an open bill at the table. It was the same person challenging me that had taken my food order and served me with 3 pints of beer over 2 hours. They don’t issue card statements at purchase so I had to prove I had paid through on line banking. Maybe a one off error but very disappointed with their attitude towards me.

Lovely pub at the side of the train station, very friendly, nice welcome, superb fish and chips which you can have battered or breadcrumbs, also the macaroni cheese was excellent. Good size portions. Would highly recommend.

While we have been staying in Dingwall we have visited The Mallard several times and eaten there twice. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the service is very efficient. Our dog was made very welcome and served biscuits and water. The beers are well kept and food delicious. I would certainly recommend this pub to friends if they plan to visit the area.

Two Green King beers on draught...IPA sour and returned to be advised by barmaid that it was my taste which was "off". It was sour and so changed it to the Abbott ale which was also slightly sour.... seems that the pipes were not cleaned properly. Lunch fish sandwich poor quality and posted with tartar sauce rather than the sauce being on the side. Wine glass still had sticker on side.....had it been washed? Tables rough scratched and unhygienic. Urinals a disgrace and leaking. AVOID

So friendly. An ideal, cosy, warm and welcoming venue located alongside the platform and outside Dingwall railway station. Whether you're travelling on the train or just visiting Dingwall, or are a local, you will be welcome at The Mallard. Great selection of food & drink. A member of staff was delightful in helping me with suggestions of places to visit on Orkney. Great ginger beer over ice. Decent toilet facilities too. (I couldn't find any others at the station. )

We saw this place after arriving by train. It is one the railroad next to the station. The selection of beer is excellent. The owner served my wife a pink gin with lemonade and she enjoyed it. We had already had supper but had dessert here. The sticky toffee and ice cream/cream was delicious. The chef prepares all the food in house. We returned the next evening for dinner and shared a steak and ale pie which was delicious. For dessert we had the toffee cheesecake and ice cream with caramel drizzle. We loved it. The chef has different cheesecake on different days. If you are in Dingwall, you will enjoy the Mallard

One of the worst meals we have ever had. Had haddock and chips. Very thin piece of fish in mostly batter, didn't taste very nice. Had to ask for the vegetables that should have come with it. Frozen carrots and peas which were still cold...

The food was verry good. Then, 15 very NOISY ladies came in. So loud, that they better coult fight in the Ukraine, and killed russian soldiers with their voices than distroy my mood.

I came off the Thurso train and was absolutely starving. I contacted the restaurant prior to arrival by Messenger to check if I need to book. A very prompt and friendly response, with no need to book as they were quiet at that time. I...

Enjoyed a long day with motherwell football clubs trip to dingwall and stopped off here before the train home. Staff were very friendly and happy to help even my fussy eating son managed his fish goujons and chips no problem. I had the beef burger with haggis egg bacon and onion rings added and honestly was stuffed after it. Tvs at every table showing the football was a nice touch.

Used to be a class pub one dingwalls best but place has went down hill since new owners have came in sacking staff for most petty reasons ever and not wanting locals in cause they are to rough never heard anything like it.

Came by the mallard by chance,googled it, dog friendly, service by Angela was second to none,all food was great lasagna steak pie is a must,will be back one day 👍🏻

We had two hours to wait changing trains to go to Kyle of Lochalsh. Neede food, somewhere warm to wait and a drink. Landed right on our feet. On platform one, very friendly and warm. Service impeccable, food far above anything normally near a railway station, real ale and a good selection of every drink. Also great value for money. Well worth a visit.

We popped in for a drink after checking in on train times for our planned trip and enjoyed it so much that we went back the next day for a meal. Staff were really friendly and the food was good pub grub and reasonably priced.

We had a two hour wait for a train in Dingwall and so decided on The Mallard for lunch. What a lovely friendly welcome! The food was great (the lasagna rivalled mine😄😄) and overall a lovely way to wait for a train!! Would recommend. .
