Cobbs Cafe in Highland

We ordered Paninis and Cajun Chicken Quesadilla, which were very delicious. The portion and price were acceptable for a tourist area. The business was very good, and we had to wait for 10-15 minutes. There was a toilet inside, but it was only for guests.

Absolutely trash customer service, blonde lady who I assume is the owner, was beyond demeaning, condescending and absolutely self-righteous. We bought 4 scoops of ice cream and drinks and walked out to the terrace to sit by the water. We noticed that a few chairs were placed by the entrance of the terrace with a sign that said "Cobbs Cafe cutomers only". My partner went in to check with the male staff running the till if it was alright for us to sit there, to which he responded with a shrug of the shoulders and a "sure", completely unbothered. Halfway through, the blonde lady storms out and starts yelling at us, saying the terrace was closed. When we explained that we had the courtesy to ask before sitting down and given the green light, we were met will a dramatic sigh of annoyance and an eye roll. We gathered our things and left the terrace immediately, making sure to leave everything the same as it was when we arrived, despite it not being our fault. With an hour journey ahead of us, we decided make a stop to the toilet. The same Karen came charging at us, slamming a broom in our path and saying "Sorry toilet's closed" snobbishly. There were other customers queueing for the toilet but we were told the last person allowed in was the guy standing in front of us in line. This was a shocking 30 minutes before closing time. Maybe if you get off your high horse you'll soon realize that customers are what keeps your business running. Cheers.

Lady in the pink is a real treat. My parents order food and sit down and me and my brother come in with outside food to eat with them, and we promptly get told we have to leave. Could’ve asked us to to buy a drink or anything but nothing. So in the end she made 2 paying customers leave along with 2 potential customers. Very rude. Needs and attitude adjustment.

Great spot to stop on the canal and watch the locking process. Great coffee and a nice breakfast roll on the patio waterside.

Excellent staff excellent food and excellent location , a great find well worth a visit if you are mooring your boat in Urquhart harbour just a 20 minute walk to work up a thirst.

Excellent service and nice breakfast/coffee. Good relaxed atmosphere. There's plenty of outdoor seating along the canal. My only reason for 4 stars is because personally I think it's a little pricey. About £17 for the pictured breakfast and coffee; that might be to do with the tourist nature of the area though. It was very tasty and set me up for a long drive home.

Veggie burger with real cheese was surprisingly very tasty thanks to the sauce in great part! I didn’t care for the chips as they tasted stale. The paninis did not look that good but I could be wrong. I have low stars for service and ambience because I didn’t like all the to go containers for those sitting right outside. I wish Cobbs would incentivize reusables to be more sustainable. As for service, it didn’t make sense to me that the family next to me right outside was asked to put their beers on the floor otherwise they had to move to the other seating area a few meters away.

Very enjoyable breakfast and kind service. Would stop here again if ever revisiting beautiful Fort Augustus!

Obviously, ham and cheese paninis in Fort Augustus are different to anywhere else. This was a partially toasted long, soft roll (not an Italian style bread) with cheap ham and tasteless cheese. A few shreds of iceberg lettuce with a half slice of tomato, a couple of bits of onion, and a tiny dribble of some kind of dressing along with some crisps for just under £9 was sadly one of the most tasteless things I have eaten. The young guy who served us was however very pleasant but we won't be back.

I LOST £15 — almost $20 — at this place AND GOT NO LUNCH to eat today! DO NOT BUY FOOD HERE!!! THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE! First off, it’s a bit chaotic going in, so it can take a minute to orient yourself to place your order. The cashier will then give you a metal table stand with a number to wait for your food. If you’ve placed a to-go order, it can be awkward standing around amongst the tables of people eating their food at the tables. Fortunately, I only had to wait about 6 minutes. They gave it to me in a box that didn’t really close and without a bag, so that was less than ideal. I luckily had a spare plastic bag in my backpack, so I put it in there and rushed to join the rest of my group. Unfortunately, it wasn’t until I got in line with my tour group for the Lochness cruise that I realized that I had been given the WRONG BURGER. I had explicitly asked for a plain burger—no cheese or mayo—just lettuce and tomato. This burger had a FRIED ONION on top and CHEESE and BACON under the bun! So while the rest of my group ate in line, I just stood in the cold wind, sad and hungry. When we finished the cruise, I asked the guide for a few minutes to exchange my burger. The cashier was the same young man that had originally served me, but he went back to confer with his manager. She came to the front to tell me that it had been an hour since I bought the burger, so they wouldn’t give me a new burger. After I reiterated that I couldn’t come back sooner because I was on the boat, she then she accused me of eating part of it, so I opened it to show that the meal was complete. She then said that they couldn’t take the burger back in the state it was in. WERE THEY ONLY GOING TO GIVE ME A NEW BURGER IF THEY COULD RE-SALE THE MISTAKEN ONE??!??? NOW I AM BOTH CONCERNED ABOUT THE POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HYGIENE OF THIS LOCATION! I strongly, STRONGLY, recommend that this establishment be avoided!

We popped in for a coffee before walking through town and were treated extremely rudely because we did not order food. If you did not want us to sit down to enjoy a coffee you should have told us this when we ordered at the counter. Don't take our money and then complain afterwards. First time I ever experienced anything like this.

It is a VERY nice place and the food is very well served. It is served by its owners (an Argentinian boy and his Colombian wife) who are extremely pleasant and strive to provide good service. It also has long hours and the place is close to the canal and has a very nice terrace. They have taken excellent care of our 8 year old girl and that is always a fantastic plus!!! Lovely place so kind and welcoming!

Stopped by today, venue is cozy and servers weren’t rude. I ordered a chicken burger. The chicken breast I received was 1/4 the size of the bun (standard size burger bun). I asked the server if this was normal. She took a look and said, yes that is a chicken breast. I ended up taking three bites of the burger leaving 75% of the bun on the plate, as this was when all of the chicken had been consumed. Fries were also not warm, and a little stale. If nothing else, avoid the chicken sandwich.

Service was fantastic and friendly and food was delicious!

4 stars is a bit generous but also fair, given that I was served burnt French toast. When I brought it up to the server, she proceeded to gaslight me with telling me it’s not burnt. That’s how they make it. So, if you like your French toast burnt, it’s your lucky day, you’ve found the right spot.

Good, a little expensive but good

Beautiful place, we traveled thousands of km to see Scotland and we accidentally came across this small cafe at the tour stop. We met the owner (sorry we didn't ask the name!) and he turned out to be a neighbor from our neighborhood in Buenos Aires. We will surely return!

The Aaran Ice cream sold here was delicious! We tried the traditional flavours of Cranchan and Scottish Tablet and both tasted so good that we went back for more the next day. The staff were so friendly and helpful with small children trying to make up their minds.

Disappointing to say the least. Ordered the croque monsier. No Béchamel sauce or dijon mustard. There was one tinly sliced piece of ham in the sandwich. I have to say the staff were brilliant no complaints there. The food is definitely lacking here. Not the worst I've ever had as suggested by other reviews which I feel is slightly harsh. Definitely could up the game for the price they are charging. It's worth a trip for the ice cream.

The owner is charming, the food is exquisite (English breakfast), and the atmosphere is great, good music and tranquility.

Service and flavor exceeded our expectations! We walked to town in the middle of downpour and Cobb Cafe was the first open door we came upon. We were greeted so warmly! The cafe was clean and charming! Our food was fantastic and the service and attention was much appreciated!

I do not reccomend this place as my family ordered Paninis and chicken burgers we were given our food and it tasted horrible like the worst thing I’ve ever had .

Visited with 2 vegan friends and we knew there were not many options but the staff were a little rude. Portions sizes are small and fine.

We were staying in apartments above Cobbs so this was our morning go to for breakfast. We tried both the full breakfast and bacon rolls. Both were good. The only negatives, no mushrooms and a very small offering of beans, but these are minor points as I'm sure the portions are more than adequate for most, we just happen to have a larger appetite first thing. The quality of ingredients weren't 1st class, but didn't make it any less tasty. Bit pricey if you're planning on having a full english every morning as for the 2 of us it was £36, but this did include a pot of tea each. The staff are lovely and very accommodating, even when I asked for 2 tea bags as I do like my tea rather strong. My only other gripe is that on our last morning the entrance door to the cafe had been wedged open, presumably for ventilation, altho not ideal when it's minus degrees outside as it became uncomfortably cold and our breakfast cooled very quickly. Several people commented on how chilly it was but it seems the door was not for closing..lol. The staff may have been functioning at a higher temperature as it was busy but please, a little more consideration for customers paying good money for a hot breakfast who do not want to sit in the cold.!!

Visited yesterday with 2 dogs,the staff couldn't be more helpfully,friendly,and accommodating. Great hospitality for a small gem of a cafe 👌 10/10 Great coffee too.

Only the soup was good in my opinion. The mac and cheese didn’t have much flavor. The quesadilla and cheese burger were not good in my companion’s opinion and they couldn’t finish their meals.

Stopped for a coffee... a little pricey for the size!

Called in today with our two dogs, received a warm welcome, and the dogs got a biscuit straight away. Lovely coffee, our food came quickly and was really tasty. The owner checked that we were happy, the staff were all very efficient and cheerful, a very nice cafe in a beautiful setting, recommended. 👍

Very friendly place with a lot of positive energy from the owner and his crew. The food was good, especially the home made soup and cake - we took away some extra to enjoy again later.

Went in for coffee. 3.95 for and cappuccino is at the top end price wise. Asked if take out or sit in, but still came in a take away cup. Too expensive and basic coffee for the price. Seating inside and out and a huge queue of people waiting to use toilet. Not really a relaxing coffee, unfortunately just a tourist trap.

Visiting Loch Ness, we enjoyed a very pleasant breakfast. Very clean place.

The food was the smallest of portions, and I eat like a mouse. It was disgusting and expensive. Three meals, that we left more than we consumed, and three soft drinks was £43. The price was not an issue, the quantity and quality was.

Not many places open due to heading out of season, so popped in here for a quick bite to eat on our way around the loch and the canal. The menu board is a bit misleading - stated £4.50 for a breakfast roll with a list of items underneath, which reads like this is what is included in the price. States £1 for extra items underneath that, at the bottom. Ordered 2, then bluntly informed by the woman behind the counter that the list is not all included, appears you get the bread roll (which was very dry), one item (slice of bacon) and then anything else you want off the list is £1 extra each - so £1 for an egg to be added... The £3 odd coffee came in a 6cm high cup, half of which was froth. Beyond disappointed, not the best tasting food for the price we paid - wish we'd gone elsewhere with better tasting food and attitudes

October 2024, time is 2 pm. We ordered the 8/10 beef burger, which came with some potatoes and a simple salad. The place is very good. Service 8/10...

Blonde waitress was extremely rude when they charged me for items then said they weren’t on our bill…which the cashier never provided to us. Such poor service.

Came here several times for breakfast. We tried all the dishes and it was always delicious. The service and staff were also great and very friendly. You also have a nice view of the lock. absolute recommendation!

I saw some poor reviews for custom service but perhaps there has been some changes as we went there 4 times in the last week and were served by polite, helpful staff every time and didn’t experience anyone else being treated differently. Now the food. Breakfast rolls were great. I had just bacon, bacon/egg and haggis/egg and couldn’t be happier with what I received. Good coffee too and price reasonable in my opinion. Good job Cobbs.

Simple and delicious food. Service is very hard, but the crowds of tourists at lunchtime are simply difficult to cope with. Despite everything, the waiting time is perfectly acceptable (sometimes you get lucky and get your turn straight away). Depending on the volume, there may not be enough space, especially if it is wet outside.

Great sandwich, soup, burger and sweets shop. Very quick service. Inside and outside seating. I was with a 16 passenger tour and they quickly got all of us fed.

A very good place to have a hot tea or coffee and a delicious sandwich with melted cheese. The atmosphere is 10 and the owner is very friendly. Highly recommended

Abbiamo scelto per pranzo questo posto per caso. Abbiamo ordinato mac ‘nd cheese (sapore dj pasta al formaggino) che viene servito con toast e con insalata e un panino con bacon e qualcos’altro: il pane era quello bianco che sembra essere simile ai pani congelati e infornati dai discount di bassa qualità. Tutto molto scarso e per niente proporzionato in qualità rispetto al costo di 30 e passa sterline.

Highly recommended place! The service was excellent and fast, even though it was packed they never lost their smile and always managed to serve everyone with efficiency and speed. Excellent full English breakfast 🤩 They are also welcoming and kind to or dogs! Super promoted!!!

AVOID. £19.50 for two paninis with a scraping of tuna. Staff very rude and don’t care about the customers. Pumping out a bang average scran to tourists. Definitely won’t be back here.

Been up to Fort Augustus for a week & 3 times we have been in the cafe & 3 times we have heard the awful lady that’s rude to everyone she speaks to I suggest she gets an another job 1 that does not deal with people The cakes were delicious & sitting beside the canal was lovely with a bonus sunshine 🌞 See you next year

Great, dog friendly cafe. There is sitting both inside and outside, beside the canal. Friendly staff, quick service, and great food. We used it 3 times over the week for breakfast, and it was perfect.

Staff need allergen training, they were completely clueless. One of the girls working there is rude and unprofessional.

Stopped for coffee, tea and muffin today Sunday, 28th July, and enjoyed it by the canalside. Staff (Judy & Ros) were helpful, warm and inviting and very friendly.

The whole family went a few weeks ago and the truth is that the place is super nice and in an ideal location. The owner was super kind to us, they served us super quickly and in general the treatment was unbeatable. If we return to the area we will definitely stop by, it is the perfect place to have breakfast, lunch or just have a snack.

As local!!! I was expecting more welcome attitude. But unfortunately.. not this time and i don’t think something will change in nearest future. Not recommended for locals..

COFFEE TASTELESS COULD HAVE BEEN TEA. BACON ROLL TASTED LIKE CARDBOARD AND THE BACON WELL PIG MUST HAVE DIED OF OLD AGE. £16 FOR THIS RUBBISH AVOID THIS PLACE.

Best food we’ve had on our trip. Food had flavor and at a reasonable price Cajun Chicken Quesadilla and the Macaroni and Cheese Dishes.

Excellent place to eat while waiting to embark on a visit to Lochness. Very fast service, tasty dishes and not too small. Single bathroom for men and women but large and very clean.

DW had a ham & cheese panini, which she declared as very good. My cheeseburger was also very good. You come here, however, for the Millionaire Bar, which may just explode your taste buds. Visited 30 June.

Terribly rude and awfully small portion sizes for the price, definitely praying on the fact that it’s one of the only places for tourists to eat at by Lochness.

Visiting Scotland and also eating in my favorite place... Service 10 Quality 10 And it is very important that they serve you in English and Spanish, it is something that is appreciated for those of us who do not speak English... thank you cobbs until next time

The tuna panini was so uninspired and bland. The chicken soup was as well. It's like they put zero love into their food. And it's pricey. This place is a total skip.

This place is amazing. I came here twice once for breakfast and once for lunch. Both of the meals were absolutely delicious, and you and some amazing views to look at while you eat, including the boats! I would recommend this place for any meal you want to have, it's great.

Just awful food. The cheese on panini solid and un melted. The £4.50 sausage sandwich which consisted of 2 link sausages full of bone fragments and gristle was the most disgusting thing I have ever had in my life. I live in Scotland and on behalf of all us I apologise. We are far better than this.

Soup OK pretty bland, panini cold chese hard and not melted, service awful, really rude staff especially one lady who spoke down to almost every customer. Do not recommend, AVOID

We stopped here on our tour cycling around Scotland. Great service by the Sunday staff team. Panini’s were delicious as was coffee and Ice Cream

You must try their scottish tablet ice cream. My fiance tried the traditional (vanilla) flavor and said it was the best ice cream experience ever. Their bread was nice and fluffy as well.

I was sitting at a table by myself and told to move since the restaurant thought they would be getting busy soon. Plenty of other places to eat around here for that kind of service.

We came here for a quick bite while waiting to begin the Loch Ness cruise. There was a substantial lunch crowd, but the order process was pretty fast. This is an informal cafe generally speaking, which I enjoyed. Service was fast. We ordered the bacon brie panani, which was about average. The same for the cobb burger--while the bun was quite nice, the accompanying salad was uninspired, as were the crisps. The carrot coriander soup was delicious, however. A bit pricey for the quality of the food.

Paying with a few slices of lettuce with less than a slice of tomato with a handful of crisps. Coffee looks like tea. Everything in cardboard boxes, including soup in a small cardboard cup. Overpriced with minimal effort.

Apparently charging a phone costs too much money even if you want to order something in return.

Terribly rude staff but as nothing compared to the owner of this place, a true charmless bully of a man. I'd hope to give some positive light on the dining but the food itself is cheap truck stop rubbish sold at 5 star prices. This place epitomises 'tourist trap' as it's one of the few eatery places in town and clearly customers are viewed as a conveyor belt cash cow. Go next-door or to the Spar garage instead but don't feed this place. Utterly depressing.

Very dog friendly place with indoor and outdoor seating. Very friendly staff too who offered our dogs a biscuit. We had a few different hot drinks all were nice as was the flapjack. Nice setting opposite the locks to watch the boats go through. Highly recommend visiting this place if you are in the area.

{AVOID} Food was mid and well overpriced. Service was TERRIBLE. They didn’t give us the correct change amount as well- what a SCAM!

Got there at 3.10 and were told not hot food available as they close at 4. Coffee was available but on paper cups. Ordered a skinny latte. Milk was out of date so I said I didn’t want it. Few minutes later they bring an americano for my husband and the coffee for me. I said I didn’t want it. The lady got into an argument with my husband as apparently he had said he didn’t want a refund. This was not the case. I reinforced to that lady that I had told her I didn’t want it. She got very angry and said she’d refund us everything but would ask us to leave. We walked out. I’ve never had such bad and rude service in my life and I’m 56 years old. I would not go there again. No wonder the place was empty when we arrived and other cafes round the corner look very busy.

The staff were very friendly and the food was good. You get to experience the hustle and bustle of a small town that has some good life to it.

Very good place to have a drink after visiting Loch Ness.
