Overall very poor hotel, was booked as part of west highland way trip. Hotel was not clean, mouldy bathroom, broken fixtures and fittings in room. Some members of staff seemed to have poor personal hygiene and premises was poorly run and organised. Toilets in public areas were not clean. Although breakfast was included we did not eat there due to our concerns.

Don’t be fooled by the signs advertising live sports. Drove 10 miles to watch a live event and was met with disdain when I asked if they could put the football on. Obviously saving money & speakers don’t work for music.

There's a reason for all the mediocre reviews this year. Despite having a booking we waited two hours for our meal. Front of house staff generally polite - with one notably rude exception - but appear untrained and need prompting for basic stuff. No manager present on site. Food poor - honestly a ready meal macaroni cheese from Morrisons in Fort William is better than what they cook here. And we could have driven there and back, and cooked such a meal, in far less time than we waited. Go somewhere else.

Ate here after a day in the hills. I lucked out with a great macaroni cheese while husband was slightly disappointed in the size of his fish (neighbouring tables appeared to have them hanging off the plate). The menu was good, plenty choice. Good mix of locals and tourists. Atmosphere was good with very friendly staff; I liked that the bar staff noticed and acknowledged customers leaving as this makes you feel more inclined to return.

We stayed at the Tailrace Inn after day 4 of walking the West Highland Way! Checking in here felt like stumbling across a desert oasis after a long day on the hills. The rooms were comfortable and cosy - perfect for resting weary legs. We ate a yummy, satiating dinner at the bar in the evening where there was a vibrant, lively atmosphere. The next morning we enjoyed an equally fab breakfast which set us up nicely for the final leg of our walk! Great vegan options too! The staff were all very friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend. Thank you so much!

We came for lunch and returned for dinner! A friendly welcoming team, good food and a lively pub. We ordered different food for lunch and dinner so can recommend the mac and cheese, the home made soup and warm bread roll , the lasagne with garlic bread and the fish and chips. The Peroni and Guinness weren’t half bad either.

This was not the first time I had visited, so took my friend confident of the warm welcoming atmosphere, good food, service and reasonable prices and we were not disappointed. There were a number of West Highland Way walkers, Munroe Baggers and other assorted weary travellers in there recovering ofter a hard day in the great outdoors. The Pub is also dog friendly. Although not relevant to us this time, it was certainly a feature that drew us in originally as we had two tired and well walked dogs with us on that occasion.

This isn't a rating on the food since we actually left without eating. We arrived in a group of four walking the west highland way. We hoped t chrge my partner's phone while eating to call home after three days put in the hills. However all the plugs had been blocked and when my partner unplugged a small table lamp (it was full daylight) he was told to put it back as it was company policy not to let people charge phones. This seemed unusual (since it costs about 2 pence a charge for what would have been a £100 meal) but fair enough. We might have just accepted it except the staff were incredibly rude when my boyfriend asked why and so we left and went somewhere more hospitable (and less empty of customers). I'm sure I will receive a response to this but I'm nt sure there is any excuse for such rudeness. We are often in the area and will certainly never go here.

Visited here at the end of a long and hot day walking on the West Highland Way. The landlord did explain they had been busy and told us a number of items were off the menu. Had no problem with this - but did have a problem with the size of the portion of haggis which we were served. I'm assuming they had almost run out and so split a portion between us. We should have complained but we were both so tired we could not face any confrontation. Kinlochleven must have to struggle to get visitors to this remote place and to be given such rubbish portions does not make me want to return.

We checked out this place as it was the first we got to from our B and B. It does have a restaurant but by the time we arrived it had closed for the night. We went in the bar which was very busy but we were found a comfortable table and shown a menu. To my partner's delight there were four vegetarian options. Previously on our trip to the Isles and mainland the choice of vegetarian food was pretty woeful. Service here was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed my chicken and chorizo pie. My partner also had a delightful meal and we were both more than satisfied with our choices.

We ventured to the Tailrace inn after being disappointed at the nearest eating establishment to where we were staying and were impressed not only by the food, but the lovely warm atmosphere of the place and the helpful and friendly staff. I would have no hesitation to recommend this place to anyone travelling to this area in search of good food and a nice place to eat it!

This place was great. The bar staff were very friendly and helpful. The place was rammed when we arrived but we soon got a table. Excellent selection of Vege food and it was all very tasty. Food came very quickly too.

The Tailrace is definately above average as a place to have a meal. I had the steak which I always use as a benchmark for new places I try and the Tailrace did pretty well as I only left a small chunk of fat that hadn't made it to the well done mark. My wife had haggis neeps and tatties which she enjoyed immensely. Both meals arrived in healthy sized proper pub portions relatively quickly. Atmosphere was nice, laid back and the staff were pleasant and friendly. The only thing that spoils things is the midgies so you can't even consider the option of eating outside as the option is there. We chose to eat in and it's just as well we did. When we went in it was just after 8pm and it wasn't "too" bad but when we came back out 45 mins later we quite literally got mugged by the midgies. So visiting during the day is fine, just take a full body length net cover with you if you're visiting in the evening. (I honestly wish I was joking about the midgies but they really are that bad so be well prepared.)

We've just completed the WHW and this is my second visit to The Tailrace. A nice pub with a decent atmosphere. The food is good and the rooms are clean and in good order.

Enjoyed a family meal here on Friday night, great food and service. I particularly liked the burger with the haggis - very tasty!. Dog friendly too which is a bonus. Sat outside on a lovely warm summer night - I recommend this pub!

We stopped here for dinner while staying in the village. Was a very busy little pub that served good food. Not Michelin star but good honest pub food. The service was fast, the food was hot and not bankruptcy expensive.

We called in to the Tailrace Inn for a beer and food one evening. The pub, a locals pub with a good atmosphere, was quite busy but doesn’t take table bookings. The food was good but the beer was chilled and some gassed to make it “smooth” which was a bit disappointing.

Usually get coffee to go from here but decided to sit in with my one month baby and used the changing facilities which were in a disabled toilet. They were absolutely horrendous! Filthy and the handle and lock on the door was broken. Not only a health and safety issue but obviously a privacy issue for people needing the accessible bathroom. The other two toilets weren't much better either. Decided to leave and use the main shopping centre facilities instead.

This Country Hotel lacks love and attention. Outside front and sides are very tall weeds, the flower boxes were full of wilted. Car park resembles a quary.. On entering the dining room was well presented albeit I felt it chilly . Only 3 diners and we had to wait to see if we would be accommodated. We were..we sat at our table and the really lovely young server took our order limited menu and 3 choices off that evening.. Food was just OK...not value for money @ £17.95 for haddock and chips. Overall not the greatest.. I'd love to see the outside tidied up and give the hotel some road side appeal

After arriving at skye and looking for places to eat this proved a little difficult as it was out of season and places had limited opening hours. We went for Gabbro bar after seeing it on google maps. The pictures of food looked passable. After getting there having to get our own wipes to clean the table after ordering things weren't looking good, then the toilets were very rundown and like a back street bar toilets. The food then came out in baskets, lined with greaseproof paper. (Something you would expect in a arcade) Fish and chips and the macaroni and chips. Even a plate would have been acceptable even though the fish was clearly out the freezer and very greasy. To top it off a random dog was wandering around trying to smell the food on the table and pushing its way under the table to check for any food.

The fab cinnamon buns elevated our coffee stop from great to awesome! Other really yummy cakes are available. Oh, and the vegan tomato pizza swirl looked great too if you fancy a savoury.

Staying at the nearby Dornoch Caravan and Camping site we walked into Dornoch for a meal. We chose The Coach House because it is dog friendly. We received a warm welcome by staff and locals alike along with their dogs. Our haddock and chips arrived promptly and were delicious. However, our Westie started making a fuss. One of the locals and then a member of staff offered to “dog sit” so we could enjoy our meal. Exceptional! Thanks to all involved.
