GRO Coffee

Irvine West, North Ayrshire
16/06/2019: I’d been desperate to visit GRO for a long time and it did not disappoint. The brunch menu is incredible - like something you’d find in a big city. The food was amazing and the cakes and coffee are even better. Such a lovely atmosphere - perfect for brunch and coffee with friends. I will be back and will definitely be trying the pizzas at dinner.
15/06/2019: The coffee is probably the best available in the local area. The scones are large and expensive: one between two would be sensible. I was surprised that the food displayed on the counter was not properly covered. A sneezing woman did her best to coat the food with her output and the atmosphere of wet dog wasn't particularly appetising. I won't be back until the hygiene issues are resolved.

Varani's Forum Cafe, Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock West and Crosshouse, East Ayrshire
07/05/2019: Been serving the best ice cream in Kilmarnock for many a year. If you’re in the area, don’t miss it.
24/02/2019: 5/5 Best ice cream selection this side of Italy with outstanding value. Shame I have to travel from Glasgow every time I want to get a box load of ice cream. Keep it up.

17/06/2019: This was probably one of the worst lunches we have ever had.
07/05/2019: Nice little tea room - lovely home baking, home made soups and fresh sandwiches. Dog friendly - central for town centre shopping and car park.

Saffy's Cafe Bar & Brasserie

Ayr West, South Ayrshire, 20-30£
12/06/2019: Strangers to Ayr would probably walk past this little gem of a place, as it is tucked neatly in between a row of terrace houses and offices. Once a house itself, it is one of Ayr,s top quality eateries. Can be rather cramped on a busy day, but the quality and presentation of the food is up there with the best.
07/06/2019: Do not judge a book by its cover, nor a restaurant by the exterior. A Saturday night treat brought us to Saffy's, with guidance from Trip Advisor, thank goodness we had booked! The welcome by the staff was great and the young lady who served us was attentive but unobtrusive all evening, thankyou! House red was a quality wine at a reasonable price. I had haggis and black pudding fritters - so tasty and the tempura batter was so light and crisp. My wife had chicken and rice soup, sounds ordinary, but in fact was extraordinarily good. Very tasty. Main course saw me on the pan fried sea bass. Four beautiful fillets which I had asked to be under, rather than over done - absolute perfection with the creamed potatoes et al, an excellent course. My wife had the peppered duck breast, another triumph. Didn't really need desserts, but go on, we will have a look at the menu - Oh, go on then, we'll just have a panacotta and a cherry and liqueur concoction. Again, they both brought credit on a very talented chef. I hope the photos do justice to the food. A wonderful night, great atmosphere, excellent staff, what is not to like - we had to travel 270 miles to get here, please open a Saffy's in East Yorkshire!

22 Bar & Grill

Ayr West, South Ayrshire
04/06/2019: We were a party of three and enjoyed in the main an evening meal here. Two of the party had nice meals but my T Bone steak was not up to scratch. I would recommend that you check to make sure that the steaks are fresh and not frozen.

Silver Spoons Tearoom

Troon, South Ayrshire
27/05/2019: Ate here with my family and as usual the place was great Food is very fresh and value for money. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is very unique I'm a good way. Will be back
22/05/2019: Now known as Silver Spoon - the Staff are so beautiful and welcoming, the food here is great and tasty. We ate from the Thai menu, but they do offer a western Italian menubitems too. It’s a nice change of pace from the high end without losing any quality in the food. We will definitely be back again.

John Carrigan's Eating House

Hamilton South, South Lanarkshire
04/06/2019: Try to book ahead to save disappointment. Can be fully booked at peak times for weeks in advance. Bar area nice for drinks and food but can't be booked.. We also regularly enjoy breakfasts here. Portions are very generous but some dishes can be ordered in smaller portions which is a great idea.
04/06/2019: Visited tonight with 23 family members. We only arranged it with less than a weeks notice, and staff could not have been any more accommodating. We used the Mezzanine area which was perfect, nice and intimate, great atmosphere and access to our own toilets etc.

Puffers cafe

Irvine West, North Ayrshire
18/06/2019: The location is stunning. It is a shame the cafe's decor does not match or compliment in the slightest the stunning views the cafe has to offer from its windows. It is just a basic, greasy spoon design with lack of interior vision or interior design, which is a crying shame. The food, as well, does not champion the local area or beautifully pair with the scenery. The food itself is substandard and uninspiring, more catered for an older clientele - and example being "fish tea", literally fish and chips with a god damn cup of tea; if that doesn't scream outdated, I really don't know what will. The staff are super attentive, very friendly and helpful - the place's saving grace. Sadly, this place is just another boring, "meh" cafe that Irvine has to offer. The place is crying with untapped, customer flooding potential.
19/05/2019: Don’t know what’s happened to this place but the service was slow and poor The breakfast when it finally came after 35 mins was disgusting and cold and presentation was poor I now feel sick

11/05/2019: An excellent visit, very friendly staff with prompt, efficient service. Menu is not overly extensive but the food was delicious, from the amuse bouche to the steak it was all delicious, sadly I did not have room for desert which has to be a good excuse to go back!
15/03/2019: Food excellent. service good and staff well trained and attentive. 3 course meal as part of our stay package first class.

Janie's

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
01/06/2019: We called in for a snack on way to ferry......had toasties, coffee and scones, all delicious.....but, I have absolutely nothing against dogs, but NOT in eateries....man came in to order with a dog then sat outside with his family and proceeded to put dog on the table!!!! Doesn't matter if smallish dog it should not be on table......the staff were aware as they were served their order.....We would go back there but inside.....
25/05/2019: Just popped in for a coffee and decided to have a cheese scone, best I have tasted with extra cheese on your plate! Yummy!

The Brodick Bar & Brasserie

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
10/06/2019: We weren’t expecting much having eaten at a few local places . At first we were surprised at the prices, but Arran is expensive and rather dignified. The Loch fyne scallops were divine but serve them with grated apple and purée with celeriac was inspirational. I as bouillabaisse . Quality ingredients in a beautiful base broth. My husband had saddle of lamb which looked gorgeous and he said wa exquisite. We will be back!
10/06/2019: We went here on a Monday night when not many other places were open. Food was good but the whole meal was very expensive compared with other places in the area for the same quality. If you can get there for the Early Bird prices it would be better; bear in mind that the “Early Bird” time is earlier on Arran than on the Mainland.
