I’d come to Arran solely so I could eat at Mara. Kirsty and Gordon ( and Flora) run a fantastic little restaurant. The food has not been less than excellent and the service is friendly and welcoming. As they warn on their website the seating inside is limited but there are benches right outside or even on the beach side of the road. We ate here 5 times in 7 days this visit (brunch and late lunch on Sunday!) Already planning to get back here next year.

Nice food. Good range and modern choice. Just perhaps a little less passive aggressive for the lady boss who while pleasant perhaps needs to bite her tongue from the hand that feeds her. Worth stopping in too for a light lunch

3 adults and 2 kids aged 7 and 10 went for lunch at Mara. It was exceptional! I’ve never tasted fish pakora quite like it! The courgette and fish soup was unbelievable and the langoustines with cafe de Paris sauce were from another world. The kids had ordered the kids fish but when the food arrived the wanted to try everything, they got stuck in and loved everything we ordered and were asking to go back again the following days! Can’t recommend it enough and will definitely be back on our next visit to arran. Can’t recommend it enough. Top tip - check the opening times as they vary each day and closed on a Monday, we planned our trip around when we could eat there :-)

Dropped in for brunch after walking from Brodick. What a wee gem. The tastiest hake en papillote, and a lovely welcome. The menu is full of interesting dishes, and the chef clearly knows how to bring them all beautifully to life. Ps drop into the wee bookshop after and grab their wee cookbook, bonus! Now just have to work out how to anchor the boat at Corrie so we can come more often….

Cracking food which can be ordered on goodeats online or just turn up. I had Thai style mussels and some Arran-baked Sourdough. They have other stuff for sale in the shop including full loaves (from Blackwaterfoot bakery) plus some cold items (cured fish etc). There are a few tables and they could be busy, which to be fair they say on their website that 'reservations might not be possible'. But on a nice day you can sit opposite by the sea. My only complaint is I didn't get a chance to taste everything else on the menu.

I would eat here every week if only I didn’t live 400 miles away. Simple welcoming place that provides great fish served in the style of street food. Beautiful fresh fish and perfectly judged flavours. I savoured every bite. The view is fantastic too. There’s enough reasons for this place to be always busy. A must for any stay on the beautiful Isle of Arran.

Visited Mara Fish Bar while on a short holiday to Arran. We read their website and ordered our meal in advance and also requested if we could get a seat if possible. Walk-in only, so no reservations, but very easy to order and pay for your food online, you can start ordering after 1000 on the day for that night. Arrived at the Fish Bar which has a beautiful view across the water and a seat at the window had been kept for us. Service was excellent and the lady behind the counter couldn’t have been more helpful. The food was ready on our arrival and we got a couple of cans of soft drinks to go with the meal, there is no license for alcohol but you can bring your own. The Sri Lankan Fish curry was beautiful beautifully flavoured, spiced just right so that you could get a nice hit of heat if you got a piece of chilli. The fish used was ling which stood up well to the curry and held its shape and taste. We had also ordered mussels which came with a delicious sauce, the mussels were plump and flavoursome and the sauce was superb and needed to be mopped up with a good slice of freshly baked bread. Finished off the meal with a wee tub of Arran Ice Cream and a wooden spoon. Definitely order in advance as they do sell out of menu items and once it’s gone, it’s gone. Very clean and tidy place and quite busy with people coming in and out collecting their food, keeping the chef busy. Well worth the visit. Everything is served out of takeaway boxes which do hold the food very well, but probably wouldn’t appeal to those fine dining Karens out there. They also have some seating outside and as a nice touch have some blankets on their benches to keep you warm, appears to be dog friendly. Well worth visiting and will definitely be back sometime.

Made a point of visiting this establishment based on good reviews arriving,Saturday 16/9 at 3pm conscious they closed at 4pm. Some food was off the menu due to being sold out so ordered what was still available. First impressions of the girl at the counter was she’s off, but carry on the food will be good, I ordered the languistines. She asked bluntly “what accompaniment?” I asked if I could just have butter and herbs, she said, “it’s only one of the three offered” and just looked at me, I quickly chose one to move the process along and get out of there. The fries weren’t an option, she said bluntly “what two sides do you want?” Because she made me feel uncomfortable I quickly picked two and paid for my order. Whilst waiting I observed someone after making an order. She told them if there was nothing from the sides they wanted these would be deducted from the cost, not an option she gave me. Meanwhile I observed someone who came out of the kitchen and went round the customers at the counter, making a genuinely concerted effort to make sure the customers were being attended to and also bringing out their orders, I think this was the owner, she gave me my order, she was pleasant. When I opened my carry out it was two sides overload, totally not compatible with the languistines. It was so bad I had to drain the water out of the two sides from an already leaking container. Ate the languistiines which were good, left the sides feeling completely deflated. This review is based solely on the horrible experience of the girl who served me, abrupt, no smile, perhaps a forewarning i could just pay for the langistines might have saved the day.

We went during our Arran stay as Mara comes highly recommended. It is a beautiful spot and we had window seats inside, looking out over the sea. Booking was ok and flexible enough but the payment in advance always feels a little unusual - like if you really did want to complain it would be too late! Let’s be clear and totally fair, the food was delicious - we had the fish and veg in a paper wrapping (hot salty buttery and cooked to perfection) and the Sri Lankan fish curry (just the right amount of spicy). And the staff were great and there was a nice buzz in the place. But the portion sizes really were small. The fish in paper had maybe 3 new potatoes as part of the meal, and the curry had no vegetables with the fish and sauce. We did have a side of chips and we were glad that we did! So all in all a bit mixed - and just also note that there are no toilets on site - this may be important for some - and made it slightly less comfortable for us than it might have been.

The only disappointing thing I can say is that we only managed to go out here once on our Arran vacation!. Its a 15 min drive from Brodick but 100% worth it. We went on a day when you can pre-book on line for what you want from the menu (based on the catch and availability of fish for that day) which was very easy and convenient. Other days you just turn up - but check out their website which is very clear in explaining everything. When we arrived at the designated time to pick up our food it was ready exactly on schedule and we were lucky to be able to sit inside (limited seating inside and outside and a "first come" basis) to eat it looking out to sea. Oysters, amazing / Mussels, amazing / Skate, amazing - even the potatoes were excellent. We are coming back to Arran next year and our mission is to come much more than once.

Two visits in 4 days brought hake en papilotte, mussels with chorizo and tomato, chips and hasselback potatoes. While these were very good, the goan fish curry and whiting macaroni cheese were both exceptional. Only the mackerel with beetroot risotto proved divisive. Although I appreciate its smoky and oily flavour in other dishes, neither the mackerel (tasted like cod liver oil), the beetroot or the risotto worked. Given that my other half loved it, I might be in a minority of one.As the review suggests, COVID and the closure of Creelers (a few years ago) mean that this remains the outstanding take-away option. Hope to try fish tacos or kedgeree next time.

So we had to book in advance, and menu changes daily. I’m not a big seafood fan but my family are. We had the fish tacos which I was really looking forward too, but I found them very very salty and the garlic sauce was overpowering (and we all love garlic) however the miso honey hake was absolutely delicious!! As were the home cooked chips! I got langoustines for hubby as he loves prawns and shellfish etc but he found them a bit mushy, however that could just be a personal thing. Friendly welcome in pouring rain brought shelter under the outside canopy. With Mac the Westie in close attendance, we ordered 5 items from the daily selection. As 1200 became 1230, this small place really filled up, and various items had vanished from the menu. Good evidence that many people regard this relative newcomer very highly.Although the bisque required more body, I am inclined to agree. Huge mussel spring rolls, fish tacos and the potatoes were all star performers. While mackerel was a brave choice, the bacon crumb on the macaroni cheese was great. As well as the apple jelly sorbet enjoyed by our son, the strong coffee and delicious cake (plum and ginger) brought a smile to my partner's face.As well as service with a smile, our choices totalled £36 including a still water and a coke. Given its location and use of excellent local ingredients, this represented excellent value for money. In short, if you like fish and seafood, there are options to suit everyone. 1st (and won’t be the last)time visiting here. They have the cutest wee westie greeting you as you come in. Staff were nice and very friendly. Wide and varied many I.e got to try the fish tacos!!!! Relatively Quick service specially as it was quite busy. Reasonably priced and the location has some beautiful sights.

We were told it’s not “fast food “ after we enquiring , having waited 35 minutes . It wasn’t for sure!, however it was very good when it arrived . Would go back with the knowledge it is SLOW but VERY GOOD.😀

I have visited Mara before and thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the excellent food to the extent that I have recommended it to friends. This was despite it perhaps being a little over priced for what you got. However I am happy to pay for quality. It is however regrettable that I now have to report that I was extremely disappointed on my last visit on the afternoon of Tuesday 6th Aug 19 to be told that they were busy. Fair enough I thought, however what has prompted me to write this review was the terrible attitude and rudeness of the woman that served us. We ended up leaving before eating. I assume this lady must be one of the owners as no employee would have treated potential customers in such a way.

We had a Sunday lunch at Mara. The food was brilliant (all fish dishes of course), the view of the sea lovely and the staff, especially Liam, really efficient and helpful even though they were rushed off their feet.

Turned away because they were "too busy." staff rude and abrupt. Many menu items sold on a weekday afternoon. Go else where.

Crackin little place, staff great, not licensed but the hotel 50 yards away is, is no issues there. Go early to ensure your first choice is still there..

No idea what the food is like because taking orders was “suspended” without explanation for 30 min. Of itself this would be fine but, being rudely told off for returning before 30 min was just too much - won’t be back!

At 2pm on a Sunday afternoon we were hungry so decided to stop at this little cafe for a bite to eat. We were not disappointed. The food was great! Skipness Smoked Whiting Kedgeree with an Arran Salad and coley with Spiced Chickpeas and Chunky Skin-on Chips. I thoroughly recommend stopping here although don’t be too late as everything will sell out.

We've been coming to Arran most summers since I was a baby and when we arrived this year about 4 people independently told us to try Mara. It was excellent - really interesting menu, and the portions were fairly light (which is a nice chance from most places in Arran serving standard pub fare). The fish tacos were amazing. Very relaxed - counter service with food served in (recycled) boxes and self-clear up.

Shhh don’t tell anyone about how amazing this place is. Never had fresher, better food. Fish tacos, fish finger sandwich and amazing coley and spicy chick peas. Great baking from a local bakery - raspberry brownies.

An absolute gem of a place. Absolutely beautiful, street food-style seafood with lovely, friendly staff (including Mack the dog!) and a relaxed atmosphere. A must if you find yourself exploring Arran.

Very relaxed informal style, with children and dogs running about. Superb flavoursome food in disposable containers, rapid service, portions appropriately sized. A memorable experience.

This is a nice place for a light lunch with freshly prepared fish and shellfish dishes made to order. Good coffee and cake too. Our compliments to the young chef.

Came highly recommended & the quality of food & ethos met expectations. A takeaway with a few seats so don't be surprised to have your food served in a recyclable box. The food is prepared to order so if it's busy you might have a wee wait, worth it tho'. We had Pollock fish finger sandwich with crushed peas & lettuce, the fish tacos & shared a portion of chips. Excellent quality & really tasty. There was lovely artisan bread available to buy and various eco products. So glad we managed to visit during our brief stay in Arran. I felt it was value for money - if we want decent food we need to pay a fair price!

Had a lovely lunch at mara fish bar. The fish taco was the best I have ever had and the mussels were the largest I have ever seen. Nice sea views too. Recommended

We called to get some food to takeaway as it was raining and there wasn’t seats inside to sit at! We ordered the Hake with roast potatoes and a tomato sauce and a portion of their tacos. We had a long wait ... they aren’t the fastest! When it came it was in small cardboard containers. There was a small piece of hake in the middle with 4 potato wedges and sauce and while it was tasty the portion was vary small for the £10 paid. The tacos were two in the same size box as the hake. These were delicious but again expensive for what you got. I would hate to be a large family as it would be an expensive lunch! Tasty but couldn’t afford to visit again!

Can't add much to other reviewers other than to say that the owners are right on the money with this little place - F&C; taken cleverly upscale but not fancy. Excellent quality (not just the seafood but the bread for the fish finger sandwiches is superb), really friendly, and a cosy stop on a wet day (we were lucky in arriving mid afternoon to be able to be seated). It was doing plenty of takeout business at the same time.

Visited Mara last week on a very wet and miserable Thursday and most certainly we weren't disappointed. Caught the 324 bus from Blackwaterfoot and Mara is close to the Corrie Hotel (100 yards away) and has bus stops outside. The langoustine bisque was very nice, Bouillabaisse without the bits but lovely and creamy and a great start to proceedings. I then had the whiting tacos and Mrs Mystic had the coley fish fingers and Blackwater Bakehouse Sourdough with superb thick cut well fried chips and all washed down with a lovely cup of tea. It was truly brilliant and we are returning in a week or so to introduce friends and family to this gem of a restaurant.

This place with the scaffold doesn’t look like much from the outside but it’s truly a wonderful place with freshly prepared food to a very high standard of quality, the enchilada wouldn’t be out of place in a great Mexican restaurant, same with the pasta in a great Italian
