Nice pub. Friendly staff. Good selection of food and local beers on tap. Meal I ordered was tasty. Recommended.

We came in by chance after a long day in Edinburgh. We were struggling to make our choices from the burger menu. A member of staff came to our table and said they saw we were looking at the menu and that the kitchen was about to close (they could've left us scratching our heads only to find the kitchen was not open). Our food came out quickly and was cooked to perfection, including all our addition/subtraction requests. Lovely bbq sauce. Lovely atmosphere. Lovely staff. Great beer. Mum had a nice cup of tea, and nice cold coke for me the driver.

Once again looked after very well, a real family feel and catered for in the same fashion. Thankyou both James and Clarice for providing the same high standard time and time again, really so very much appreciated, all the best for the future, Marty, Davison Kilt Hire Bruntsfield.

Sat outside and ordered drinks, brought chips with us from another establishment. A bald man came out and shouted at us to not eat them on their premises. Your staff behaved inappropriately aggressively with zero customer service skills. It's not a problem to put the chips away, there was no need to come out pointing at us, raising your voice for everyone else to hear. No excuse mes, no hellos, no thank yous. I would request an email address for a Manager please.

Got the chicken wings to Start and the steak flat bread as a main. All the food was decent the only thing I would say is the chicken wings the skin needed to be crispier, but that's just a personal preference

I went here for drinks with my mates, and although the staff was nice, the tea was not available after a certain time due to the coffee machine being turned off. And unfortunetely, my friends and I spotted a mouse crawling around inside the building. It has potential, but lacks certain aspects for me to consider it a good restaurant/bar.

Great for food deals and to take the family

Mccowans is my favourite local spot to grab a bite in all Edinburgh. It is always a great plan (specially after or before going to the cinema) and it feels like home to me. Also the staff is really friendly and welcoming.

My first time here, Very happy with the service, manager came to check on our table. Very friendly and helpful staff. The food was great and very quick service.

Had been previously in which enjoy, however visited there again on Sunday with 25 members of family for a get together a few coming from Australia, the service from the staff was not good customer service, it came across like they couldn't be bothered serving us it wasn't even that busy very disappointed certainly wouldn't be returning 😡

Manager has a bad attitude and atmosphere was terrible. Unfortunate as has potential. **Edit** Response to manager No issues taken with ID checks and everyone willingly obliged. Manager took a dislike to the group immediately on entry. No welcome, no smile. (Bar and other staff were friendly). Refused entry to 5 members (all had ID), but stated "we are at full capacity" and we couldn't move any chairs because of "fire safety reasons". There were multiple free spots without requiring chairs to be moved. Atmosphere was terrible despite being a champions league football night. Very disappointing, won't be back.

As a publican i can asure you that if you have young children don’t take them here if they can’t sit at a table I was refused service because my son was running about Absolutely shocking i use greene king pubs across Scotland and this is the first time ive ever been refused because my kids are playing/exploring Will not be returning to this venue

I've eaten here before and the food is okay at best. If I could give a minus for service and atmosphere I would. They claim to be child friendly, but clearly aren't. The staff should take a leaf out their Livingston branch, because the hospitality is much better there.

Wouldn't normally give a review on a place this poor but I was very disappointed with the food. Sports bar atmosphere, staff friendlyish, cleaning adequate. We came here because it was close by for a late meal. The menu looked quite good for grills and chips sort of food. I had the 'signature dish' of Jamaican chicken stew with rice and peas and a flatbread. The food had a good taste and tasted fresh but whoever prepared it must have plated it up and microwaved it so it was just about hot and the flatbread went hard as it cooled. Did mention all this to the waitress but didn't push for a refund as it was late and they seemed to know the quality was poor and didn't care. I wouldn't go there again. I wouldn't recommend any of the food even though the food itself seemed fresh, their practises are bordering on dangerous.

Overall I don't mind McCowan's. It offers a reasonable range of drinks and sport, and a menu which although not the best is certainly not the worst. On the whole the staff work hard to assist but I have noticed their demeanor has gotten a little more snappy recently. Personally though I can see they are very understaffed and I think they are trying their best in a stressful situation. Their chicken items are pretty good, as are chips, and the burgers could certainly be better but they are fine enough for the price. I would say that the pies and steak are something to miss, usually cold or too fatty. There is a good selection of sport but they do not have any sound on the sport and when I asked them to turn it up a little they said they can't do this which ruins the atmosphere a bit. Overall go in with low expectations and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Food was amazing tasting and very fast. Drinks where delivered equally as quick sadly one of our drinks order kinda got missed or something but once we asked the waitress about it she went and got them right away. Atmosphere in this place is normally pretty good but tonight being January was pretty quiet to be expected though. The soft tacos here are delicious and i recommended you go try them.

Went today for lunch with a fellow wheelchair user friend, excellent service. 1 downside no independent access, i.e doors have to be opened manually.

Me and a group of friends went here for a little Christmas gathering, a couple of my friends had been there before. Both the drinks and food was really good and at a really good price, proper pub food which we all were so excited for. They had a few festive drinks which were quite nice!

Having a toddler and a baby this place is great if you need somewhere reasonably quiet and with pram space, easy access to baby seat if required. Service is quick and friendly and food is good for the price point.

Decent pub with good pub food. The place is equipped with multiple screens, so if you want to watch something, there's a very good chance they are showing it. They even have an app for ordering, so you don't have to wait in line at the bar. It's an ideal place for watching football, especially on midweek nights, as they offer combos and food deals as well.
