We booked for Sunday lunch at Mayflower Brasserie, and having attended a wedding at the hotel, were looking forward to our lunch. We had duck pate to start and it was lovely, but to be honest you can’t go wrong with a slice of toast, a dollop of pate, a spoonful of onion marmalade and a micro greens garnish. Very tasty. We waited 20 minutes for our main of beef wellington. Unfortunately we both had to send the food back as it was barely warm and not pleasant to eat. Another long wait and new plates arrived. They were warmer than the first but far from hot food. We ate it and it was very tasty. Then came deserts. We ordered apple tart with clotted cream. Unfortunately it came with ice cream instead of clotted cream. As if we needed more cold food! I removed the ice cream and ate the tart. It was delicious but very small. When we paid they had given us our drinks free to compensate for the cold mains, and discounted the price of the tarts to compensate for the serving error. Overall, I am disappointed with my Sunday lunch. Service was exceptional but the food was a let down. Cold, small portions, and not as described on the menu. Even with the discounts our bill was over £100 for the two of us! We went home and had a sausage sandwich as we both still felt hungry. Needless to say, We shan’t go again

We booked this after a recommendation from friends. The web page did not give prices or allow online bookings but a quick call had a friendly response although we were told “The roast is beef this week” - no choice - but as carnivores this would be fine for us. We arrived on time and saw several tables already occupied. The greeting was warm and welcoming and we were very quickly settled with drinks in hand. The lunch was really good. Melting and tender beef on each (hot) plate with crispy roast potatoes and parsnip and a yorkshire pudding; dishes on the table of beautifully cooked peas and carrots, red cabbage, green cabbage, cauliflower cheese, and plenty of savoury gravy. Yum. We had a leisurely lunch, clearing our plates, and the bill, including a dessert each and drinks, was approximately £25 a head, which we thought very fair value for what we had. While we were there several locals called in for takeaway lunches so that service seems good too. We will be going again, soon.

What a disappointment. Four of us went here for a nice meal tonight (Saturday) and all left disappointed. We had starters: Garlic Mushrooms were okay, fairly bland but okay. Crab was not as expected but instead a chowder, not bad but not great. Chicken strips were nice. Mains: Steak and Ale Pie: Badly mixed gravy and overcooked pastry outer. Meat mix was very nice. Chicken duo: Chicken strips were again okay but the grilled breast was massively overdone and dry. Rum Caramel belly pork: Heston Blumenthal this is not, overly sweet and with not enough rum to taste it. Belly pork was tasty but ruined by the sauce as were the potatoes and carrots. The "carrot crisps" are just roasted carrot peelings, not bad but odd. Sea Bass Risotto: Risotto rice did not seem to be used for this recipe so the flavour was not soaked into the rice. Sadly this left the rice part tasting bland aside the partially cooked peas which felt like an afterthought. The fish itself was quite nice but rest of dish bland. Service was sadly also lacking. Friendly but overworked staff who seemed to be very busy in the rest of the restaurant. Not once were we asked how our meal was, presumably (and based on other food being sent back to the kitchens) it is because they already knew the answer. I hope this was just an off day but none of us will be returning to find out. Finally I cannot complain about the atmosphere because there wasn't one.

Recently moved to the area and popped in on the off chance last night for food and today for lunch , and neither visit disappointed. The food was hot and very tasty and the staff were very lovely and friendly. We ve eaten at many wether spoons and I always have the ramen soup . It was hot and will be back again. My partner had wings that were also tasty and hot . We will definitely be back soon x
