Wow - struggling with shopping and long Covid the wonderful staff were amazing. They offered to carry my tray to my table and were so friendly ! Thankyou !

Nice relaxed place, good atmosphere, (as you would expect in a bookshop). Good range of toasties, rolls and sweet pastries. Excellent coffees and green teas, all served by a rather overworked, but very helpful manager /barista.

Personal agradable y trabajando duro. Café bien.

We started meeting friends here for morning coffee on a Friday. It does not offer much choice or quality but was convenient. Over the weeks it has gone steadily downhill so we now go somewhere else. They staff are always working on top of one another, it takes ages to get served. Not a good choice of cold drinks, stale cakes and worse of all the tea cakes have been changed for smaller wholemeal ones. Really awful. I did ask about the change of tea cakes and was told they were healthier. I don’t need someone to make healthy choices for me, they should at least offer a,choice. Shame really but they have lost 5 regular Customers.

This little gem is without doubt the best place in town for a coffee. No frills just great staff (always so friendly and polite) and a usually calm and quiet atmosphere. Visit every Saturday at 11:45 without fail. There’s even a very small play area for the little one! Perfect.

I don't 'do' Costa or Starbucks, so a friend and I chose Waterstones to meet up to enjoy a quiet coffee and a long overdue catch-up chat. I don't know about the 'quiet calm' and 'oasis of tranquillity' that other reviewers have quoted - all I can say is they couldn't have been there when I was there! Our experience was completely ruined by a gang of selfishly inconsiderate hooligan mums and their noisy offspring singing and clapping so loudly that my friend (who had a perfectly-behaved one-year-old with her) and I could hardly hear each other speak. Other customers around me were also muttering unhappily about their disruptive behaviour and I heard one couple say, "This is ridiculous. Have they got no consideration?" as they got up and left, leaving half their food uneaten. I complained to an employee but she didn't appear at all interested in my opinion, and when I told her I was never going there again she just gave me a watery smile and walked away, leaving me mid-sentence. So if all you're after is a half-decent coffee and a nice pastry, by all means go to Waterstones in Eastgate Street, but if you're after a bit of quiet calm in an oasis of tranquility, quite honestly you'd be better off driving two miles out of town and standing on the hard shoulder of the M5 teasing a cage of angry geese with a sharp stick. Never again - next time I'll go to Caffé Corretto in The Quays, a family-run business where the service is always good and the coffee and pastries are better.

I've started frequenting Waterstones a little more of kate and have been impressed with the friendliness and approachable style of the staff here. Most of them go over-and-above to help you out, recommend material, and make you feel very welcome and at ease :)

Forget Costa and Starbucks etc this coffee shop has friendly staff and serves good food (the cakes are very good) and drinks. The cafe is in the first floor of the bookshop and is accessible by escalator. Stairs bring you back down.

The staff are friendly and the coffee and snacks are good. The other big advantage is that it is in a bookshop, where you can sit quietly, check out the books and enjoy your coffee - they do other drinks as well!

I think the cafe is much improved since waterstones took it over. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the cakes which come from the Lavender house Bakehouse in chalford are famous and very good indeed. Lovely atmosphere surrounded by all those books.

My visit to the Waterstone's café was so pleasant that I have since come twice with my husband. The staff are exceptional - friendly and accommodating, they give me custom-made coffee (I like it weak), the tea is properly hot and the scones are excellent. I like smaller cakes and they obligingly gave me a smaller slice (at a smaller cost). It has a very cosy and comfortable atmosphere.

About six months ago this café changed from Costa to Waterstones own brand, so what's it like? First, it still has that quiet calm that comes with being in a large book shop, a little oasis of tranquillity which seems to quieten the hisses and grindings of the coffee process. Service, by a hard working and very personable team was a bit slow on the day, but,. a machine had failed partly. We chose tea, which came in an enormous, proper pot, real tea leaves too, all for under £2. Our toastie choice was good value too but we did think the range of toasties a bit limited.Buit not enough to stop us going. So overall, a good experience and I think it should be able to move into the above average group when time has allowed the honing of everything. But, do not be put off by any comments here, I regard this as a worthy place

We left a bit disappointed with the take over by Waterstones from Costa Coffee. The new place - has no real change in decor, although the seating seemed less cramped since i was there last year. there does seem to be a little change both in direction and in the lines of products stocked. For example, my favourite tea was now not available replaced by green tea with added ginseng - indicating a more upmarket (?), direction; however white bread sandwiches and choc bars seem to contradict this. Come give the people what they want!

Usually have perfect service with the two men on morning shift during the week, although the bathroom is unpleasant. Came in today, mid-day, albeit I was a little flustered due to the long wait and loosing my train of through due to the long wait: we asked for a medium iced drink and cakes to eat in, charged for a medium received our order in to-go containers (Cheescake in an envelope ?) and the drink tasted like dishwater and wasn’t right. I was belittled upon asking the women if my order was correct since it tasted less chocolatey and of the other syrup whist being runny with chunks of ice; I understand mid-day rush but to be looked at like I’m in the wrong after paying £7+ on a drink and cake is ridiculous. Ruined my experience with Costa. I hope no one else has to experience that service ( women with blond grown out greasy hair in two buns).

Standard noise costa coffee shop clean the drinks are what you expect from this chain. Really need booths so you can relax and chat with friends without the noise of others busy at time I visited.
