The Lord High Constable of England - JD Wetherspoon in Gloucester

We chose to stay local to here as we had been driving all day. Called in for food and the service was so fast, we ordered on the app and within 5 minutes our drinks were with us. Poretti is a great lager and glad they have chosen to have it as an option. I was on the becks blue, they have plenty of choice for those that don’t drink or doing dry January. Food wasn’t long and unfortunately as my partner was hungry I couldn’t get a picture of his but he had the sticky Korean fried bowl and it smelt fab and he finished it all. I chose the scampi peas and chips, good old classic that tasted good. Atmosphere was good and the ladies toilets weren’t upstairs !! The men’s were however. Only down side I have was tables weren’t clean although empty so staff could do with being a little faster on cleanup and the carpet needed a good hoover but it was a Friday evening.

Overlooking the dock on the back, very popular WiFi and my own network were patchy as there were hundreds of people approaching Christmas, still got table service promptly, food and drink were good 👍👍

After a mornings shopping decided to go for a pub lunch i ordered a steak which i specifically said im garlic intolerant my steak arrived very quickly i took one bite and could taste garlic instantly my wife who is a kitchen manager tried a bit of it and confirmed that there was definitely garlic there somewhere i returned to the bar and told the bar staff who denied they use garlic i was offered a replacement fish as they run out of steak apparently I've looked up jd's own steak rub recipe which you can buy and surprise surprise it contains garlic granules so 1 thank goodness im intolerant not allergic and 2 perhaps some training on ingredients and how to handle a customer complaint

Overcharged for lousy food. Service diabolical. App not working so ordered at bar. Bar staff ignored me in preference for what appeared to be regulars. When I did get served the barmaid was clearly not listening and screwed up the order. Food when it came was lousy. Avoid. Much worse than my usual Spoons expectations.

Good selection of ales, cheap food,. Nice dockside beer garden.

I have to say it was weekend during pre Christmas period, so somehow expecting delays. I took long time to get food served, ages for the coffee as one machine was working at the time and a huge queue piling there foe a coffee, about 8-10min, when I got back to table the breakfast was served but cold... Beside table a family shouting a child... What can I say... i couldn't enjoy much there. Also pricey compared to Wetherspoons in Notts or Ross...

Had lunch at this modern Weatherspoons. Good food and attentive staff, nice ambience and great outside space.

Spoons is spoons Same old problem, not enough staff serving , dirty tables , packed to the rafters. Any tables that are available are full of used plates and glasses. Food, although seen as good vaule really isn't it's the best marketing ever " but it comes with a drink" yes but the food is rubbish. It's great for a drink, the decor is good and locations good too but there's far better places in the area to visit that's better. Toilets not bad and in working order

Decent wetherspoons next to the docks and quays. Sirloin Steak was great and recommended. The app ordering was excellent, and the service staff was fast and smiley.

It's a two storey Wetherspoons pub. A spacious ground floor, with an outdoor area, on the canal bank. On a fine day, it's lovely out the back, watching the occasional barge/boat sail past. There is a smaller, cosy upstairs area that's often closed on a night time. The usual great value for money coffee, food etc. that you would expect from a Spoons venue. The reason for 3 stars rating on atmosphere is there is no music going on there for me.

As a visitor to this play over 20 days, I found the staff really friendly, the food as expected but better than average for a Spoons. Service great. I would like to thank Brandon especially for his customer service and going beyond his job. He went the extra mile. But everyone was great also. I just wanted him to be recognised more. Thank you to everyone for a pleasant stay.

Lovely atmosphere great service

Cannot fault this place for speed of service, friendly staff, great food & drink prices. Only negative point is that tables not cleared/cleaned very quickly & menus are sticky but hey can't have it all. Good value for money.

Quick food turnaround. To be fair fish and chips was good though fish was disappointingly small. Ramen Noodles was packed with flavour and awesome portion. Atmosphere a bit flat and service could have been more warm and welcoming.

Good pub with a nice atmosphere. I didn't try the food, but I could see that the dishes were made nicely and everybody said they had a good meal.

I only sampled food from the small plates menu, which were good value for the price paid and nice selection of ales... However the clientel were typical for a weatherspoons... unfortunately, to many enebriated and loud individuals that should have been refused service long before!

Nice pub, good food. Service ok but waitress was not backing down on giving us an extra pot of gravy despite gravy not being on the extras menu to order 🤔. Probably won't go back as plenty of other places around that may offer a better experience

Nice large historic building, which has outdoor seating areas as well (either in the main square or canal side). Food quality is consistently good. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Such good value. Early on a Friday morning with the sun shining. A really filling breakfast with great coffee. Can't work out how they do it for the price. Nice and quiet too.

Good service. Lovely eggs benedict for breakfast with free refills of tea.

Had pints one evening nicely priced and good value. It's very busy spot with a good atmosphere and a good service with a good choice of food and drinks at nice prices. This Weatherspoons is a bit newer and fresher than the Regal which not to far away. The location is nice with plenty of other places to eat and drink..

Lovely Restaurant & Bar. There is plenty of room and polite staff. They are helpful and accommodating for everyone, including myself, as I am a wheelchair user. Food arrived on time. The presentation of the food was amazing. Well done to the Lord High team 👏

Sat at table 4, at far end of ground level overlooking the quays basin (table for 2). Just enjoying a meal out. Have been there occasionally in the past but didn't realise there was seating, as well, on the 1st floor, overlooks the water too. 😀

Place was rammed but food and drinks served quick at competitive prices and tasted gooooood!

Lovely Wetherspoons, situated right by the waters edge. Well decorated inside and nice area out the back. Good service and great food! No complaints.

No deserts at all but very nice response when I mentioned it being quite poor.

So why have I given this 5 stars overall but only 3 and 4 stars for the underlying categories. Well, when you are sitting in the sun overlooking the docks basin, watching Llanthony bridge opening ever so often and drinking a pint of £4.50 leffe, why wouldn't you.

The food was terrible made with used oil. I ordered a full breakfast and it came without mushrooms beyond the limits experience

NO DOGS POLICY is bloody brilliant, no disturbance from yappy, unhappy, over excitable dogs, no sh1tty wet dog smells, no flea bites on legs and arms! Please, never change the NO DOG policy.

The better Withies of the two options in Gloucester. Close to the outlet village. Often gets very busy. Worth a visit.

Ordered via the app. Food arrived before the drinks. Had to nudge the food server. Lots of dirty tables, not my best experience of a weatherspoons. Revisited today 7/9/24. Ordered food and drink 13.44pm food arrived in less than 5 mins, 3 drinks bottle water coke and juice took 20 mins. Appalling. No apology.

I went to this pub on its opening day. It’s a great building and the food is better than most in the Wetherspoons chain. Locals in Gloucester call it the posh ‘spoons (because they have the Regal as comparison where the carpet can suck off your shoes, the clientele enjoying their breakfast pint and the evening doorman telling you to take off your hat so that the cameras can pick up on your face is, well, not a good example.) Been there probably three times a month for reliable food and a good drink selection ever since. Usually with wife and at least one child. Never had a bad thought about it. The last THREE visits however have been appalling as far as bar staff have been acting. On those three occasions I’ve walked out before spending money. I’m happy to give benefit of doubt but today there were five members of staff behind the bar and precisely two customers including me at the bar. Stood there for a good five minutes before even eye contact made and an “anyone waiting to be served?” This is a Saturday afternoon just after twelve. Nope. Unless management is given a flea in the ear and bar staff get a re-align that is the third, and last time, I need to leave that pub, collect my family from the table and say that ‘Daddy is sorry, let’s find somewhere else for lunch. (I ran pubs for years in my 20s and 30s. Not acceptable.)

Usual good value lunch- Curry day so we had Chicken Tikka Masala and drinks- plenty of children as it was school holidays but no problem. Wetherspoons prices are such good value.

2 years ago food was excellent, visited again last week, very busy and I wonder how they managed to serve cold chips and bullet proof eggs,plate was warmer than the food,

Standard Spoons bargain food and a pint.

Nice atmosphere and location. One of the better JDW's. It's hard to fault this one. We go there regularly for lunch and drinks. It's a well run pub throughout.

Food was ok, visited here for breakfast with family whilst on holiday. I am on a carnivore diet and was not offered alternatives for taking out toast, hash browns, beans and tomato's. I had to pay extra for additional meat. They have free refills on hot drinks, however 2/3 machines were out of milk which caused abit of a cue. Otherwise food was okay.

Been here many times. Decent experience overall, it does what Wetherspoons does and well. Latest visit app order drinks and food delivery very fast.

Ordered fish and chips with curry sauce. The portion was tiny (the fish and the chips), but they insisted it was the ‘large’ one (which I’ve had elsewhere and was twice the size). The curry sauce was in a half filled tiny pot, instead of a big gravy jug like elsewhere. I ended up getting another meal afterwards. Even the pint of coke was three quarters filled, apparently because they “left a gap for the ice”, which I’m almost certain is not Wetherspoons policy. I changed my mind while ordering and the woman sighed and gave me a dirty look. Will never come back. Didn’t bother asking for a refund because I just wanted to get out.

children throwing food at me …. when complaining to the man with eye issue he didn’t know what day it was nor the time and said he was going to kick us out at 12…. when we asked why he said he was the doorman i’m all for inclusivity as honey but this has taken a step too far…. i will be speaking to head office and making sure man with the eye issue doesn’t call me honey again…. i told him my name was honey so he kept on calling me honieee i did not appreciate this i have a non binary boyfriend called koren that lied about cancer….

Stopped in here for a light lunch as qe were sightseeing Gloucester. Staff really friendly and we sat outside which was nice Food was good, lasagne,apninis, pizza and a wrap. All well cooked and tasty so no complaints there. Only real issue is the seagulls. On two occasions the took food from people eating around us and when we went to leave a few took the opportunity to puck the leftovers. An issue for the council I would suggest but if I went again would sit inside.

Food is good. The beers are cheapest ever. However the service at the bar and the cleaning up of tables and removal of previous patrons glasses could really improve. My friends and I are here every weekend and tables are always dirty, and almost always found with sticky residue, and, pretty please - clean the chairs. This is a restaurant after all.

Spacious with good outdoor area and ladies toilets on ground floor

Food was usual for a spoons, it arrived quite swiftly at a busy time and there were 7 of us. Not all meals were as hot as you would hope for but not cold enough to complain about. The staff were prompt and polite, couldn't fault them. We would return.

Love them or hate, Wetherspoons continue to give great value for money and here they have another great location and building. We visited for breakfast on a very hot day but the air con kept us cool. If anything, worth a visit just to keep cool. Lovely atmosphere.

Cheapest place for coffee! £1.56 for a refillable mug. Wide of coffee and chocolate drinks plus tea. Absolutely fantastic!

Was out here last night was so busy, but im reviewing a staff member, waitress she was AMAZING, helped a lady with finding out the time for last bus to chelt, overheard another lady get told by bar staff no salt for her shot so she went and found some for her, and she didnt stop All Night!! You are luck to have her she needs to be recognised, i dont know her name but she had beautiful red hair up in a bun, beautiful she had many people saying to her she was complimented by alot of people saying she was doing an amazing job 😉

The absolute pinnacle of Wetherspoons! Wine and dine with our lord and savour, the High Constable of England. Will be revisiting royalty again and recommend to all my noblemen.

Great food and service on the first day, on second day it went pear shaped. When 3 of the dishes arrived, we were told they couldn't do the fourth one, but gave us an alternative, which took 10 minutes to arrive, and they had missed off all the extras we ordered!!

I was really looking forward to treating my daughter to a wonderful veggie breakfast and coffee because I normally really love the food but the breakfast was really not good at all. I we had old hard mushrooms which I paid extra for the fried tomatoes tastes old and beyond their best veggie sausage were like rubber and the beans was obviously already been cooked a billion times before and from whatever day as they were sooo dry the best part was the toast as even the coffee machine was playing up really disappointing

In a grand historic building is the ever-reliable presence of Wetherspoon. After a few hours sightseeing, it was ideal for lunch. After ordering, the goods arrived in short time. All very tasty and satisfying.

Two reasons would encourage more patrons and stop gulls eating human food very good to wild life great profits needs to fix gents toilet door, it has no soft closer as the continual bang shakes building . on Smoking permitted in no smoking areas tables left dirty in summer

The weekend was very busy however the staff were spot on the food was really good and the atmosphere was great I loved the decor of this particular spoons would definitely recommend it and we would certainly visit again

Usual Wetherspoon, terrible service, dirty premises. The Gents toilets are disgraceful. Only one cubical with a toilet roll dispenser, and only one with a lock. This is the standard I have come to expect in this pub chain nowadays.

The girl that took our order was one of the most miserable and rudest l ha ve dealt with Very poor customer servive Maybe someone could teach her to smile and remind her that without us customers she would not have a job!

An irregular haunt of ours so we know what to expect. Very busy all afternoon - it was a sunny day. The staff coped really well with no long waits for anything. We ordered food late afternoon and it was good value for money, especially as a drink is included.

Food Lousy, tables disgusting with hours of food waste, human leftovers. Staff all wooden/bland who can be very easily offended over nothing at all! No names, manager details given, total censorship if you raise your consumer rights & complain! Spineless, cowardly staff who will not provide details to offence, date, staff members, etc. TOTAL LACK OF EVIDENCE!!
