I was turned away. After seeing a lovely post on Facebook about a Thursday roast and thought I’d message them to see if I could takeaway. Due to my grandad being elderly and wanting to stay at home. We are local to the pub. Told me on Facebook to turn up, and takeaway was fine. Turned up and got funny looks, was told they don’t do that only on Sunday’s. I told them I had messaged before hand and someone told me it was okay. It wasn’t busy, and would of been easy to put into a cheap container. But no apology. I was really disappointed.

Booked a table for 2 pm, when we arrived Bang on 2pm we were told we would have to wait as they gave the table that was booked for us was given to a walk in, after waiting 15 minutes we were told they would make us up a table at the rear of the Inn right below a large TV showing the rugby, there was a chap sat there with his pint watching the rugby, staff apparently asked him to move so we could sit down, he refused but then again why should he have to move, he was there first we left and headed to the cedars just up the road I won't be revisiting

First and last visit for the carvery. The good - friendly young lady and man who were looking after the tables. Nice roast potatoes. The bad - what a miserable bloke behind the bar . No greeting, looked at me and gentleman standing at bar and waited for me to request my drinks. No interaction at all. The ugly - dry meat, cold plates and the last spoonfuls of dry cauliflower cheese and no offer to bring out fresh. Fortunately only a few bits of red cabbage left. Very disappointing visit to what could have become a regular haunt. Hopefully barman and cook were just having a bad day

Lovely big parking lot. Excellent outdoor seating area. Very welcoming entrance. . Once seated you quickly become aware that there are no female staff.which is quite unusual and amusing. Lots of handsome and efficient male staff to entertain the eyes and take your orders. Sunday lunch is buffet style and the food is actually hot, which makes a nice change. Delicious array of vegetables and the usual boring collection of roast meats, (turkey, gammon and beef), all well cooked. The Yorkshire puddings are awesome. Not sure if they offer dessert and coffee as we weren't offered any. Loved my visit here and will definitely be bsck

I’ve been a local for 8 years, visited the pub most days and weekends with my kids, family, or friends, and since new ownership I went down there yesterday to have a quiet and quick pint and a j20 for my little girl and got banned from 6 local pubs for “drug dealing” can’t show me any proof, can’t show me cctv which I’ve asked for, and can’t tell me how they have that false information, argued my True side of the story but Still banned, no explanation or warning or anything! We visited the old barn yesterday and were very impressed with the quality of the food and drinks. I had ham egg and chips which were delicious. My husband and fish and chip which was also lovely. The pub is spotless and toilets are extremely clean. There is a great atmosphere in there and we are looking forward to bringing family here. The pub is also very covid compliant. Great night out!

Went in for an evening meal, only just reopened after Covid 19 shutdown but needn’t have worried as the ‘special’ was cooked to perfection. Limited menu but what there is looks amazing! The chips were homemade and plentiful and the ham thickly sliced and obviously good quality. I had. N excellent pint of Doombar with my dinner and feel very fortunate to have this pub literally on my doorstep. Will definitely be going again.

Went on a Wednesday lunchtime with friends for a meal. Builders around the pub no sign of anyone in charge. Found out from Builders that noone is available for about a week as far as any service is offered. Not even anyone to serve at the bar!!!! Stopped in to book a table having recently moved to the area.Spoke with the landlady who said it was a 'community pub'.Well, went for Sunday lunch and found it souless. Was addressed as 'all right mate' by the chap behind the bar.The landlady walked past us seven or eight times and never acknowledged us.£35 for two roasts and a bottle of wine is too much for a pub.Lots of foul language from people sat at the bar and a mass get together for a smoke by the staff and drinkers leaving nobody serving. The food was okay, the vegetables being undercooked. We weren't asked if the food was to our liking once served.Won't be back.

Popped in for a pint with my wife and 12 year old daughter after a long trip to be told sorry mate no kiddies after 9...ok it was 915. The bar man was initially happy to serve me until a woman flew off her seat(happily getting sloshed)said they have a kiddie!! You cant serve him. No worries I said,,but I feel the need to just let people know if your passing through this very busy corridor of north Devon, don't stop here if you have kids after 9 just drive 2 mins more where 2 cracking pubs the fox inn and the new inn will invite you and your children in no probs at anytime and food to boot. Plus they don't make you feel like your walking into a social club being stared at.

Myself, Wife and four children eat out at The Barn Inn several times a month. We have always found the Landlord and Staff to be very welcoming and friendly and nothing is never too much trouble. The food is varied, well priced and of a very good standard. On Sunday's I would recommend the roast dinner and in particular the roast potatoes as they are delicious and cooked the traditional way.The bar is well stocked with a wide variation of drinks including tea and coffee.I understand that they are launching a new menu in February with many new dishes to try.

Myself and my family were enjoying another excellent Sunday roast at the Old Barn Inn, when this large crowd of walkers arrived and started slating with the bar and kitchen staff at the cost of roast potatoes, I believe they booked on Friday to arrive at 1.30 for some hot roast potatoes if possible which was agreed, The bar staff said the cost would be £2 per head for the roast potatoes(portion chips is £1.90 in chip shops) which the lady argued with as they were locals and they deserve them free of charge as they were local residents, The Kitchen manager tried explaining we had to buy, peel, boil, goose fat them, roast them serve in hot serving dishes and clean up after so this would be possible for free, I had to pay £7.50 each for my excellent roast and would have been disgusted if they did not pay, as I have lived in village a long time and never seen any of these people before, no business is a charity its to make a few shillings, I'm proud of the staff who stuck to there guns, one of the ladies arrived in my daughters hair dressers on the Monday to have her hair done and apologised for the rudeness of the leading lady in the group, As for the poor beer it was end of a barrel on real ale and as soon it was noticed a new pint was issued from a new keg, 17 people x 5 large roast potatoes each for £2 each Is this unfair

Seventeen of our walking group visited The Barn Pub today. We had contacted the pub beforehand to order roast potatoes for approx twenty people .Three bowls of average roasted potatoes arrived for which we were asked to pay £40 !!! One of our group went up to the bar and asked if this correct ; we felt sorry for the barman who contacted his absent landlord boss who said it was correct but eventually knocked £6 off .The lady from the kitchen came in but had a "couldn't care less attitude". Our group leader explained that we were all locals and used different pus every fortnight and even had some that threw the roasties in for free ! Two of the group had to take the beer back because it was off and very cloudy ;the barrel was then changed .We normally have two or three drinks each which is reasonably good trade especially as the pub was fairly quiet .In this instance we all had one drink and decided to leave. This is one pub which we will not go back to or recommend to our friends. The Barn Inn will certainly be talked about in the future by our group but unfortunately for the wrong reasons ! £40 for three bowls of chips is not a good way to entice new business !

Visited one Sunday evening on our way home. All i can really say was we were left to feel unwelcome and is why there were only a few die hards in there. Maybe the barman's mates? Food was average at best and the service if you can call it that, well poor. It was all too much effort for the fella at the bar, he didn't speak just grunted and didn't want to be there and it was obvious that he didn't really want us there either. No problem you got it. Keep your pub and you 3 customers you'll need them. In a place as small as North Devon you'd think you'd want local custom.I see that this place now has new owners? So could be better, but not sure i'll be wandering in again to find out.

once again i took my girls down to the Barn for a sunday carvery as all we had heard was fantastic reviews by word of mouth. Now that it is a new owner Dave, the place has come on leaps and bounds and trust me if it hadnt i would be the first to review it and say it as it is, We arrived and were welcomed by first names, which immediately made us feel welcome and we were served within a few minutes of arriving, it was a hive of activity with people of all generations enjoying a family sunday and it was lovely to see that the youngsters were not being reeled in and were allowed to enjoy themself, it truly is a family orientated pub.The roast of the day was a choice of plated pork or beef, so we opted for the latter, OMG 5 slabs of beef, and veg in abundance, YOU COULD NOT FAULT IT, the meat was very tender and just melted in your mouth. The waitress was very attentive and could not be faulted. But the portion was too big for us and we reluctantly had to admit defeat. It most definitely is the best roast this side of the river. The new chef and Dave make an outstanding team and long may it continue, so please disregard the negative posts as this pub has now been taken over and is THE PLACE TO GO,

Living locally and knowing that there has been a few different owners over the past year, we were glad to hear that a well respected local had taken on the pub, So after a bit of persuasion as i was not too sure if a change could be made due to the dubious past it had recently, i eventually succumbed to trying the 'new barn' out, the atmosphere was extremely friendly which matched the new look decor,. And i can honestly say we had a fantastic time with the new staff and land lord Dave. Due to having had such a lovely evening where the place had finally come alive and locals were in abundance we decided to return again that week to try the advertised sunday roast. On entering the pub we were delighted to see that some traditions are not lost and that he had biscuits, cheese and onions etc on the bar. The roast dinner was plated but could not be faulted in any way. Definitely what is needed on this side of the water. The menu has totally been redone and price wise is excellent - especially for myself as a single mum. Would i recommend, ..................without a doubt.
