Not very nice, needs massive refurb. Garden disgusting, toilets disgusting and £6.50 for a pint of 1664 to add insult to injury.

What a great bar. Nice friendly staff. A great place to watch sports. Plenty of things to do. A good crowd if you like playing pool. Friendly locals, kid friendly and dog friendly too. A traditional bar in the heart of Barnstaple

Dreadful!! Nipped in for a quick pint whilst on our holidays at around lunchtime. The pub was still dirty from the night before. Lack of pump ales so had to opt for the bottle, on reflection, it was the safer option. Garden very untidy and full of weeds! It's such a shame to see such a good pub back in the day go to rack and ruin. Bar staff was very smiley.

I was playing pool with my step dad and was doing alright. Went to the bar to drink our pints and the owner, who was drinking at the bar and being loud, said something along the lines of "good thing, you nearly got beaten by a woman!", To my step-dad. I couldn't believe it. Rude, lazy and arrogant man, I haven't been in since, I have no time for small minded and outdated beliefs.

This is a quiet place at the very end of the high street. I've never seen it too busy, but it's a comfortable and cosy place. The staff are friendly and helpful. Other customers appear to be friendly and welcoming. The thing that I like most about this place is the 2 pool tables. So far they are the best for a game in barnstaple town centre. They also have league games here. Alcohol prices are very reasonable too compared to other pubs and bars that I have visited in barnstaple

Second time been here, last time (February didn't do food) now they do. Very very friendly. Food very basic but good & exceptional value. Dog friendly (everyone friendly) & were able to accommodate our friend who's in a wheelchair, a good basic friendly pub the type that is fast disappearing due to big chain pubs & pretentiousness. Will go back

As a long serving member in the town the cork and bottle was very poilte and family orientated pub but unfortunately the regulars took over and influence the landlord to ban customers who they don't get on with which is a disgrace and character defamation. The landord is also very rude with a dry sense of humour shame really as pub was doing ok

We were tempted into The Cork & Bottle as it was a warm evening and they boasted a beer garden. Barnstaple appears to lack anywhere to enjoy a pint outside. After ordering we asked if the beer garden was open and we were directed to a door, to a background of sniggers from the two customers at the bar. Our hearts sank as we were greeted with what only can be described as a desolate space, decorated with smashed furniture and ancient lock ups. With the price of over £8 for two drinks it was an expensive learning curve!

Having come to Barnstaple for a Steakhouse recommended by my friends satnav, we found that it didn’t exist. We popped into the Olive Branch which said it offered food, it no longer did but they recommended the Cork and Bottle to us and gave us directions so off we headed. Having walked to the other end of the town (the long way as we got lost (like fools)) we eventually found what we hoped was a little hidden gem. It was not. The staff and locals just stared at us as we walked in making us feel very out of place. We then asked about food and were told we could sit anywhere we liked. We took a seat the opposite side of the pub to the staff and locals who had made us feel uncomfortable and picked up a couple of menus. They were very dated and limited. This coupled with the welcome we received, the dated decor and the unpleasant seating area made us decide to leave, despite the fact we were quite hungry and really hadn’t seen much in the way of alternative options except Witherspoon’s. We did eventually get direct to Alfie Browns by an extremely helpful local lady and had an absolutely fantastic meal for just a few pounds per meal more - Fish and Chips in The Cork and Bottle costs £8 and in Alfie Browns cost £12 and I would bet my house that the extra £4 was well and truly worth it.

I can only give 3 stars as a new landlord has just taken over and has much work to do to bring the place back to something good. It has got tired looking and he has exciting new plans to create a coffee bar and function area. Dog friendly with water bowl and biscuits. There is a pool table, and I wish the new owner all the best in his venture.
