I don't usually write reviews however after seeing some of the more recent reviews of the Symphony Wine Bar I felt it was worth adding my thoughts. We popped in for a drink one evening before going on for a meal elsewhere and found the place to be very nicely decorated and giving a very chilled and relaxed vibe. There was a well stocked bar and the chap who served us (I'm assuming the landlord) was helpful and friendly. We actually came back the following night for another drink and found the experience as pleasant as the previous night. I'm glad I didn't let some of the more recent negative reviews put us off as this is a great addition to Ilfracombe and offers something the other bars and pubs do not.

This wine bar was full of promise from the verge, but inside there was very little atmosphere - or wine! The barman kept wiping his nose and then not cleaning his hands, and we just felt uncomfortable.

The paninis and sandwiches were nice but the baguettes were par baked ones that hadn’t been baked. Really strange and not very nice. The coffee was nice but the glass was only 2 thirds full.

Very nice outdoor seating. Friendly staff who even let us bring in takeaway from one of the fish and chips shops. The most important thing is they were dog friendly

Won’t be coming back any time soon to listen to the owners racist comments and spouting right wing propaganda, I can see by other reviews I’m not alone here.

Relaxing evening drinks in the sun in front of the Symphony bar. Perfect end to the day after 20kms along the coastal path. Good drinks - lovely mix of wines, beers and spirits. Great prices. Friendly staff. Card payment only.

Comfy outdoor seats however right next to the road. Staff are very friendly and accomodating. However, for a wine bar, it has no wine menu. The selection was also pretty weak. They also didnt have any lemonade for some reason. And only one type of non alcoholic beer.

I don't know where to start. 6 of us, 3 couples, thought it looked like a decent place from the outside so thought we'd give it a shot, but inside it stank of stale tobacco smoke and Dogs. Ordered our drinks, which weren't cheap compared to other places in Ilfracombe we went in, the barman who we later found out was the owner, looked like he was more interested in his own drink than getting some for us, when he eventually managed to prise himself off the stall he greeted us with, 'what do you want?'. We got our drinks and were making our way outside when he piped up with, 'if you're gonna sit outside, (now bare in mind it was a hot day, for a change) you've gotta order food otherwise you have to drink 'em in here, this is a restaurant not a pub'. Ignorant little mug'. Needless to say we told him where to stick his food, didn't even bother finishing the drinks and left to find somewhere much better which wasn't hard.

We came for a drink at the wine bar and by 7pm the manager was throwing up so loudly behind the bar that we couldn’t hear each other speak. This included throwing up in the bar sink, including on the glasses; so much for hygiene during Covid. An elderly customer tried to approach him to ask him to leave (obviously not expecting this man to work at the bar due to his behaviour) the manager got extremely aggressive and was wanting to fight him. He got escorted by the other staff to the stairs to his room where he stood and tried to involve other customers and a 16 year old staff member in his fight by asking them to pass on messages about ‘coming upstairs and we will see what happens’ and ‘I can’t come out because of my house arrest ankle bracelet’. These customers then left their completely full drinks as the manager wouldn’t stop harassing them about the fight which he was hoping to have, and the rest of the bar emptied within 10 minutes. This was definitely the most terrible experience I have ever had while having a drink. I’d like to give credit to the other staff who were lovely the whole evening despite this awful manager and the fact that they had to run to shops during the evening to get him food and look after him in such a drunk state, which is certainly not part of their job description.

The management stayed open late for us so that the cast and crew touring at The Landmark Theatre (3rd-7th Aug) could have a relaxed drink after the show. Lovely staff, great decor and atmosphere! Highly recommend!

Nice place to sit in the sun in the afternoon but definitely not the cleanest, went twice, 2nd time asked for ID quite abruptly for our 20 year old son for a shandy, (even though the same male staff had served us without ID the day before!) Needless to say we didn't return, took our custom elsewhere and found far better bars and pubs in Ilfracombe which were a whole lot cleaner!!

This was a perfect place to catch the evening sun outside (good enough for us to do this twice). Ales on tap were great, service was very good - especially the young lad working Saturday 24th July afternoon - who was pleasant and friendly.

We visited twice during our holiday. The wine bar has a nice ambience, with comfortable, well spaced out furniture. The rioja was really good, reasonably priced and served in good glasses. However, only one of the three staff members seemed to know anything about the drinks, and not one of them was wearing a face covering, even when leaning over customers with drinks.

Meal very mediocre, staff were annoying saying 'no problem' all the time to everyone. Pizza okay, wine okay, bill was a problem, they charged us for drinks we didnt have, when I realised they apologised and refunded, but when I checked later I found out they had put the removed drinks back on. (How they do this I don't know but my bank said that it is common practice in bad places).

Lovely wine bar with a cosy atmosphere and great attention to detail with the decor, great touch to have old photographs of Ilfracombe and seaside way of life without being a cliché. Colourful and floral! Great way to spend the evening having some cocktails and chatting in comfortable arm chairs. Nice to be somewhere without fruit machines and drafts!!

Visited this bar on our first night in ilfracombe. Unlike other pubs / restaurants in the area, no-one was meeting at the door to allocate tables, ensure we signed in etc. Other patrons suggested we just find a spare seat like they had. No test & trace QR code displayed for sign in, which is a legal requirement. No table service was on offer so drinks were just ordered at the bar. It’s a lovely place with cool decor / comfy chairs and good selection of gins etc but staff rather complacent re COVID infection prevention measures.

No NHS track and trace app, no enforced face coverings when people aren’t sat down, no hand sanitiser and most definitely no table service.... people were stood at the bar (minus face coverings at one point - incl. the bar man) in my opinion not Covid safe. Also a wine bar that doesn’t have New Zealand Sauvignon???? I mean seriously!

Outstanding food and a brilliantly hosted evening. The food was delicious - the best I have ever eaten. Sharon was a perfect host, engaging the guests in conversation and creating a lovely atmosphere. If you are going to Ilfracombe book ahead - it is worth planning for!

It was very busy and I'm not a fan of town centre pubs. However, for a quick drink before the theatre this was a perfect stop

Had a very good long weekend break in the recently refurbished bedrooms. Could not fault the staff who helped us during our stay.
