Stopped here for a few drinks on a sunny Friday afternoon. It’s under new management by Ben & Will who are amazing!! It was lovely to see what they’d done with the place. The garden is lovely, drinks were served quickly and were so nice. The staff were so kind and polite and I would highly recommend and will definitely be returning!! Can’t wait until they starting serving food!

In theory a good pub although not sure why it's cash only. Super aggressive bar maid (curly blonde hair) who collects the glasses and seriously loves herself, she is very unfamiliar with the word excuse me as she tends to be very aggressive and pushes her way through the clientele. When challenged about her aggressive behaviour her response is to tell you not to drink! I have visited this establishment several times with the same result. A good evening spoilt by the attitude of a staff member, who aggravated quite a few people on Saturday the 7th of September with her attitude which happens to be very arrogant and aggressive but I guess her parents love he and are stupid enough to excuse her behaviour I would have spoken to the landlady about her behaviour but she was too busy getting pissed in the corner.

What a place! It's cosy, great atmosphere, and you can tell its a locals paradise. We went on a Saturday night and it was electric! They have live music playing every weekend! Everyone dancing and laughing! They have a beer garden which in the summer I bet is great! The price for drinks is good not unreasonable at all. Being a Irish owned pub it would be rude not to have a few rounds of baby guisness shots! We had a fabulous night! If we are in that neck of the woods again we will definitely be stopping by!

Really unwelcoming, terrible beer and awful atmosphere. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Avoid it for sure!

A very large pub which stretches backwards for ages. The beer is excellent and well kept. Whilst being dog friendly (until 1800 hrs) the customers looked on us as if we were lepers. The landlady was sharp but efficient. And they don't seem to do food at lunchtime!

There is only TWO decent pubs left in Taunton, the other being The Plough. The Racehorse has managed to keep its original interior and atmosphere. The best Guiness in town too. Friday night's are usually DJ / Karakoke nights and Saturdays being host to a live band. A very good mix of age groups and never any trouble either. Very large beer garden, to rear too. Can get very busy at the weekends.

Overnight for business in Taunton and dropped in to The Racehorse. Good beers/ciders and very welcoming bar. Will definitely make a return next time I’m down!

Stay well away from this pub!!!! The landlady is a foul mouthed drunk who attacked us with vile language for no reason at all, myself & 3 other people had gone there for a quiet drink to be suddenly approached by this drunken person screaming abuse at us, I have never in my whole life been spoken too in this manner & think that this is no way for a landlady to be treating her customers, she was also very rude to a young lady that was working behind the bar, This person should not be running a pub, she was a real EMBARRASSMENT! so be WARNED don’t go there, STAY AWAY!!!!!

The clientele has a good range of ages and very friendly all are out for a good time which the venue provided, I partied like it was 1979 give it a go there can't be many places as lively as this in Taunton

Great atmosphere. Great beer garden. The bar can get a little crammed at times with quite expensive drink prices,

The Racehorse is an old fashioned pub situated at the top of East reach in Taunton, it's quite a popular meeting place for a drink before going on to one of the many good eating places close by. It has a really good atmosphere and is run by Mary and John from across the Irish Sea. On Friday nights there is usually someone spinning discs and can get quite brisk in there. Now then! Saturday night at the Racehorse is a totally different kettle of fish all together, let me try to explain, the Racehorse seems to have cornered the market in quality live bands in the town, now don't get me wrong, there are a few other pubs hosting live bands but it seems to me, not to the same quality or regularly, the pub isn't over large but long and skinny with 3 or 4 adjoining rooms and quite a large outdoor area. On a Saturday night the band gets squashed into an area at the end of the bar not much bigger than a pocket handkerchief, then the crowds arrive and everyone is squished in like sardines. The vibe is electric! People dancing, drinking, singing, generally jumping up and down, all cheek by jowl. If you can get through the night without getting soaked in beer, tripping over or falling and crashing head first into the band and taking out half the equipment (it's happened on more than one occasion) then you will have led a charmed life, the Racehorse on a Saturday night is not for the faint hearted. I have had some of my best nights out in Taunton at this pub and have the scars to prove it. In the last 10 or 15 years I've never witnessed and trouble which is unbelievable in itself. So if you are looking for a crazy wild Saturday night out with live music then the Racehorse is the place for you.

From our travel journal: "A great, old fashioned pub where we were welcomed by a dog named Bilbo and a few of the locals. Had a great time. They even invited us to attend a fund-raising BBQ on Sunday." We didn't have a meal here, but it probably is, as one of the patrons said, the best pub in Taunton.

Weather wasn’t great and services were busy and as there was no queue I thought I’d quickly grab a snack from the food cart outside. Waited about a minute before staff member acknowledged me. He then said I’ll be two minutes. Four minutes later after several other customers had queued and then left I decided to join them and head somewhere else. In his defence he needs as working alone. But preparing a coffee (I presume for himself as no one else was waiting when I arrived) and ignoring customers isn’t great. Would love to give a review of the food and drink but unfortunately I didn’t get the opportunity to purchase any.

Really poor service. Ordered an Americano with milk and mocha with cream. Americano was black and no cream on mocha. Asked for some cream and the girl squirted it on and shoved the lid on. Spilt everywhere. Asked for some napkins and a new cup and we were given a filthy look. Girl then poured it into a new cup which flattened the cream. No apology given.

We booked this after a recommendation from friends. The web page did not give prices or allow online bookings but a quick call had a friendly response although we were told “The roast is beef this week” - no choice - but as carnivores this would be fine for us. We arrived on time and saw several tables already occupied. The greeting was warm and welcoming and we were very quickly settled with drinks in hand. The lunch was really good. Melting and tender beef on each (hot) plate with crispy roast potatoes and parsnip and a yorkshire pudding; dishes on the table of beautifully cooked peas and carrots, red cabbage, green cabbage, cauliflower cheese, and plenty of savoury gravy. Yum. We had a leisurely lunch, clearing our plates, and the bill, including a dessert each and drinks, was approximately £25 a head, which we thought very fair value for what we had. While we were there several locals called in for takeaway lunches so that service seems good too. We will be going again, soon.
