What a great surprise this place is! Like a little corner of Portugal, the staff were very friendly and fun- and the tapas was terrific. Tasty, authentic and good value. We had cuttlefish, chicken and a tapas sharing board. All of it was top notch- and under £50 for three of us, including some goodies to take away (they sell chorizo, salt cod, preserved and other specialities). Highly recommended. I'd also like to take issue with some of the reviewers on here. Seriously, some Brits need a culinary education- why would you go to a Portuguese tapas joint and ask the owners to do you chips and pizza?! Why not be bold and go for authentic tapas- you won't be disappointed, because every dish was delicious.

Had a lovely evening at the Tavern for Tapas and drinks, wonderful atmosphere, great food and the overall experience was delightful, as a couple on a date night away from a 3 year old it was absolutely lovely, first time at the Tavern and will definitely come again!

Food was terrible, chips were from a frozen bag type, over priced at £31 including a drink, no serviettes to begin with, plagued with small flies, won't be going there again ...

Came here on a family holiday and had dinner here one evening. What a con. My wife pizza was clearly a Chicago town stuffed crust frozen pizza. You can get them for £3.50 at Sainsbury's but they seemed happy enough to serve them for £13. I had a chicken makhani which again was clearly a microwave meal with greasy oil dripping poppadoms. The kids chips must have been left over from lunch. You know it's bad by how quick the food comes out after ordering which was about 5 mins. Will never go back.

We visited as a family of 6 we had to make comments and complaints regarding 5 of the meals .. dough balls like marbles.. scampi out the fork in fat splattered everywhere lasagne served in a curry dish and appalling childlike portion hunters chicken dry and taste less steak and ale pie best was all fatty dish just gravy and 5 pieces of fatty meat carrots from freezer to microwave Still rock hard... when we commented to waiter he said you can have more dough balls on 10 secobds seriously so freezer to microwave again after declining they offered 1 yes 1 dessert between 6 of us as a compliment.. lots to learn in a family run restaurant ...

Came here a few weeks ago and after our previous to that visit it was nice to see there was change in the restaurant/ bar area. After our resent visit we shall not be visiting again. We were told the manager had been sacked or left. The restaurant was awful. Had a 2 hour wait for food and when It came it was cold with items missing off the plate. We also spoke to some guy (didn’t get name) think we was the reception manager but has the worst attitude I’ve ever experienced. Very unhelpful and had a very bad and aggressive attitude towards myself and 65 yr old mother. He should not be working in that place. Also listening to him talk and slate other people behind the reception desk is very unprofessional. You need to bring back your restaurant management.

Me and my partner decided to pop up for a Saturday lunch as hadn’t been to the manor for years. Weren’t expecting much, just a general pub grub meal. Steak and onion wrap, well, steak was undercooked due to the pool of blood on my plate and the fries were cold. Thank god for the Lidl quality tortilla chips. Chilli dog, cold in places and didn’t come with the fries it was meant to. We were the only order on so how the ‘chef’ managed to mess up an order I don’t know. I spent 6 years in as front of staff and have no complaints to the young blonde lady that was behind the bar. Maybe if the chef cared as much if front of house the food would be better. Won’t be returning. 2 stars only because of front of house staff.

The on site bar/pretend pub is ok. The food isn't great but similar to what you'd expect from a holiday bar. It's quite reasonable and a decent range of drinks at the bar. The food is typical deep fried / pre-prepared type stuff but is ok if you can't be bothered to cook.

Friday 5th March. The service was excellent and the food good. I have had only one bad experience at this tavern and it seems that they have sorted out the problem of bar staff and table drinks.Keep it up as we are regular customers

We were staying at Hengar Manor country park, and the Tavern bar was the restaurant associated with the park. The tavern is open to non residents. It's menu is traditional food, nothing fancy, great for the two young granddaughters we had with us. Very reasonably priced, and a nice ambience to pass an evening.

The food at The Tavern is pretty much all frozen and largely deep fried. The food did not taste fresh and the quality of the meat was pretty poor. It's typical pub-style food, but with cheap low-quality offerings.

We stayed at Hengar for a long weekend and decided to have a family Sunday roast on site. We were a little disappointed! The meat itself was good and tasty but the rest was only average. The Yorkshire puds looked great but we're not edible. None of us could cut them up!! As its a carvery I guess it had been sat there a while. The lady carving the meat informed us it was her last day and she was glad to be leaving!! Not what you should be sharing with customers! Her attitude was not great, although she was friendly she was not professional at all. I guess with it being the end of season she wasn't that fussed!! The place itself is good. Beer is good and generally the staff are welcoming and friendly.

While staying on the Hengar site we used the Tavern on occasion for our evening meal, good home cooked food, plenty of choice, large portions, friendly staff. Very little time spent waiting. just wish we had room to sample some of the puddings. We have been visiting here the last three years and haven't yet managed to leave room for the puddings. Did see others ordering them and they looked great.

Sometimes you expect nothing more than the generic pub crap for want of a better way to describe. But The Tavern at Hengar Manor offered a decent array of tasty, well cooked and well presented meals. Offering 2 for £15 was a nice way to save a little. Each meal we had we thoroughly enjoyed!!

We booked a table for lunch but when we arrived that hadn't been communicated and no table (with highchair) had been set up. None of the tables were set, no cutlery and not a salt or pepper pot to be seen anywhere!! We ordered carverys which was very tasty. The beef however was a cheap cut and was very very tough- that tough that the chef had to change his knife for a sharper one and keep sharpening it throughout!!! I had the pork, which was very tasty. There was a good selection on veg- all cooked well. We ordered puddings at the bar but they took half an hour to arrive with no spoons- or even an offer of a spoon from 1 of the 2 waiters that delivered our puddings. We had to go up and get our own. Our main plates were not cleared and we had to put them on the table behind us to create some room! Please bear in mind that there were only 4 other tables with people eating. I dread to think what it would have been like if it was busier!! There were also members of the public- whether it was a member of staff who's day off it was- walking in and out of the kitchen. Not professional. There was 1 man behind the bar who seemed busy and was friendly enough. The service needs looking at as I can't see people returning if that is the levels they receive. We won't be going back.

We were staying at hengar last week and decided to eat in the tavern. Not expecting the food to be upto much as they never seem to be at these holiday places, we were pleasantly surprised!!We were all really pleased with our food! The garlic bread was amazing and done on fresh ciabatta, with a lovely salad, the chilli was perfect and the chocolate brownie puddings we're a real treat. Priced slightly on the high side but not too high and less than other holiday places and there we're buy one get one free meals which we declined. Food came out within 15mins, all in all pretty good! The manager or landlady (not sure) was really friendly and bubbly and had everything under control!

A group of 10 of us were in the area and as we were told food is served all day decided to drop by for a late lunch. It was not busy at all and we were served for drinks straight away. We all chose from the menu and as we are all couples paying seperate I asked if it would be ok for us all to pay for our orders but to make sure the food would come out together so the chef would know we were seated together. The bar man went to the kitchen and returned to say this would be fine. We had a reasonable wait for the food to arrive but only 2 plates were brought out and with no cutlery we asked where to get it from and was told that the cutlery would be brought to us with the next meals - about 5-6 minutes went by and another 2 meals but still no cutlery - meals sitting going cold, another 5-6 minutes went by and we were getting to the point where the meals should really have been sent back but as they were chicken it is not really safe to reheat - I could see another bar man collecting glasses from the now practically empty bar and complained to him that meals were going cold - he apologised and went to see where our other meals were and eventually 15 minutes after the 1st meals had come out the last meals are brought out and all of the cutlery - it is unexcusable when the place isn't busy and we had asked at the beginning if they were ok serving a table of 10. We then realised that the curry meal had not come with the mango chutney etc it should of had but instead some bad tasting guacamole sauce, we had to ask for this to be changed and we had to go and fetch the mango chutney ourselves - we had also ordered 3 side orders of onion rings - 2 bowls were cooked fine but the last bowl which came out even later than the meals wasn't cooked properly the batter was still raw and pale - we were not able to eat these and although we felt awkward having to complain about something else we did ask for a refund for them at the end. When paying good money for basic type meals you at least expect good service - how difficult is it to bring out a handful of cutlery??? There were no apologies or excuses for the way we had been treated just shrugging shoulders so I can only assume this is common practice! It was all very disappointing to say the least and when in the area again certainly take our custom elsewhere. I pity anyone that books a holiday with you and has to put up with such rubbish service more than once!

Very expensive for what it is!! Dry baguette with ham (tasty ham) and cheese, a bit of salad and coleslaw (not very fresh) and a flat white came to £13.70!!! So stunned at the price I just paid it. I live in Truro and certainly won't be going again!

Had a standard cappuccino here and it would've cost me less to get a taxi to Lidl and make it myself. Probably would've tasted better too.

We visited this pub twice during our short visit as the food was so good and very reasonably priced. On our first visit we had the freshly caught cod and chips which really did look like a whale on a plate. Would highly recommend this place and the staff were really helpful and friendly.
