The best restaurants serving Indian food in East of England

Amazing food, great service and superb value on first visit even though we have lived about a 3 minute drive away for 25years!! Definately be going back, thankyou.

Food was a bit sloppy, not much flavour, not proper lumps of vegetables. Ordered for 6.30 and came at 7, receptionist was rude and ignorant. When order came, naan breads missing. First time ordering and will not order again.

The best Indian food in Halstead. Chicken Tikka Makhani (butter chicken) and Kuka Co Co Paka (Napalese) are amazing. We usually get takeaway, however do go there on the odd occasion. The restaurant does struggle with service during busy times, as it did last night, which is unfortunate. We were there two hours and would have preferred to have been there half that.

A Wonderful Experience at Indian Ocean Restaurant! Visited the Indian Ocean Restaurant on Wednesday to experience their Tasting Menu, and it was absolutely delightful! The seven-course journey was simply amazing, with each dish offering a burst of flavors and a great balance of taste. The hospitality truly stood out—the staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. Their warm and welcoming attitude added a special touch to the whole experience. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great dining experience! I’ll definitely be visiting again.

Visited The Shapla on a bit of a whim with a group of friends. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal and the atmosphere surrounding. My friend got verbally assaulted by a member of staff (jokingly) and this entertaining, tailored customer service means I will be highly likely to return in the future. A restaurant isn't just about providing good food, it's about being able to understand the customer and tailoring your service approach. You can play it safe, or you can have a laugh and a joke - which is exactly what we received. I'll try to return without my friend and weird menu requests next time. I'll also try not to touch the hot table things too. So much fun.

Amazing food and service. Just a shame that the owner KEEPS ALL THE TIPS!! Whether you leave cash or pay by card, the owner keeps 100% of the tips! Complete greed! Keep your 10% and DO NOT tip at The Zaal!! You are only making the owner another 10% richer, not the workers! Disgusting.
