Little India in Braintree

Went for a take away I am diabetic and took some insulin to coincide with eating, unfortunately I was delayed so my sugars dropped dangerously low. I asked for some Nan bread to get some carbohydrates in having explained my problem. A man came very quickly, drizzled with honey - brilliant No panic, perfectly handled And the food was delicious, can’t fault the service, food or anything

We dined here this evening, the staff were very friendly and attentive. The restaurant was very clean and the food was excellent. I would definitely recommend.

Probably the best Indian restaurant I’ve been to. There is plenty of parking and the staff made us feel very welcome. The menu had a wide selection of dishes and the staff explained everything that was on there. They even made up a dish for one of us that wasn’t on the menu. The food was brought out swiftly and was generous in portion size but most importantly, the quality of the food was simply exquisite. It was full of flavour and had plenty of meat within the dish. The rice was beautifully cooked and the naan bread just perfect. I can’t praise this restaurant highly enough. Great, food, great atmosphere and great value. Well worth a visit.

Take away. Usually very good and the restaurant was busy when I collected. Had 3 lamb dishes - spicing was very good and flavours were great however all three lamb the meat was very chewy and each person commented on that with their dish. The nan breads were also on the cold side by the time I got home but the curries were still hot. I guess a little disappointed really.

The atmosphere is really nice in this place very secluded and can eat your food in peace. Wasn't a fan of the mint sauce wasnt very minty and the Sag paneer wasn't very cheesy but everyplace does it differently! Everything else was good! The price was more expensive than I would usually pay!

I go out my way from Braintree for my takeaway here as much better food than any in Braintree.

This has to be one of the worst Indian takeaways I’ve ever had. I spent £50 for me and my partner and wow it was atrocious. Once I got home and unpackaged everything it became evident that this was going to be inedible. The Jalfrazei was swimming in oil to the point it had all seeped into the bag. My King Prawn Puri was exactly the same. When I tried the sauce there was a distinct bitterness to it that I didn’t feel safe eating anymore. The chicken pakora was pink in the middle and the pilau rice was a dark brown colour. I returned the food and got my money back. It baffles me to see so many positive comments on the reviews but I can be sure to say this goes down as my worst Indian experience. If I could give less than one start I would.

A good out of town Indian restaurant, with plenty of parking. They offer a good menu and the service is very good. Also for anyone doing Dry January they offer Kingfisher Lager 0% which is not bad for a nonalcoholic lager.🍺 Overall well worth a visit. Thank you team🙂

Great Indian, great food and service

What a great find! Recommend by a good friend, and would definitely recommend. Menu has a great choice of usual dishes, and many less known.

Overall it was a nice experience. The restaurant was lovely and the ambience good. Cleanliness was high and the quality of food good. Unfortunately where it all fell apart for me was the service. Maybe we should have been more specific but we were ordering partly for a vegan in the party and our dish choice and questions of ' does it contain dairy'? Should have been an indication of this. We were never directly asked " is there a vegan in your party" but I got the impression they realised. Obviously not. The food arrived and as a result some what not acceptable. The confusion arouse with vegan dish, labelled vegan on the menu and Ordered accordingly arrived but was dressed with yogurt. Let me be clear. These things sometimes happen, it's wasn't a problem for us. What disappointed me and changed a great meal out to a lousy one was the fact that our waiter did not seam to either understand the concept of being a vegan . And in his opinion it was ok to dress a vegan dish with yougurt and that it did not matter that it contradicted the menu. This I found unacceptable and very un professional. I would return too little India but vegans be cautious and over clear with your dietary requirements. On the basis of my experience of little India, I cannot recommend this establishment.

This is one of the best Indian takeaways I have been to in a long time. It sits on a quiet road between Halstead and Sudbury but is worth the drive. The food is lovely, the service is exceptional and all for a reasonable price. It will be our new regular Indian restaurant.

We as as a group of friends visit here several times a year . We are.not overall the easiest to deal with , but they always look after us . It’s not the best Indian food in the area but more than acceptable . I am more than happy to visit here several times a year. Well done !

Last night we ate at Little India, Maplestead. I meet up with friends on a regular basis and this is a nice central point for us all. However, the quality of food appears to have declined over the last couple of visits. This visit three of us ordered King Prawn Biryanis but we all agreed that it was tasteless and bland, very disappointing! (Also we don’t like the automatic 10% service charge on the bill) We’ve given this restaurant a good chance but think it’s time for a change now unfortunately.

Excellent food, not a regular indian but the flavours are excellent. The presentation of the food is pretty Indian; if you know what I mean. I do believe if this was brought up to date and with a few tweaks it could warrant a Michelin recommendation and even go further. I found the service pretty good. Very nice atmosphere

I’ve eaten many Indian meals in my 63 years and this is without doubt the best experience. Staff respond well to well mannered customers , food arrives quickly and is hot, good menu choice, reasonable prices, decent wine list, relaxed atmosphere. Don’t hesitate. C

Appalling service , rude staff and food cold when served. When I complained the food was cold I was told “we’re busy”

So I will start by saying this is a review on the service when I tried to make a booking - I can’t say what it’s like in the restaurant as I didn’t get that far! Nor do I have any interest in doing so now. So on their website they have a booking request form, which gives you an option of all days and times - regardless to when they are already fully booked - it doesn’t state this. So I filled in the form - 6 days in advance of when I was looking to eat (which I thought was quite a reasonable amount of notice - isn’t usually a problem for most other places) it was only for 2 people so not a big group, and then got a phone call from a quite frankly very rude member of staff, who made me feel like I was an idiot for even trying to make this booking. There was no ‘apologies we’re unfortunately already fully booked at this time..’ nothing, no apology whatsoever. I was just told that the tables fill up 2 weeks in advance. How about updating your booking system online so people actually know this? Instead of making them feel stupid on the phone for even trying to book a table. Really poor service & it’s made me not want to try and book again. I’d quite frankly rather go somewhere else that would appreciate my custom.

I have just came back from a meal with my wife at this superb restaurant, I had Lamb Shaslick Bhuna, my King Prawn Korma it was really one of the best curries I have ever tasted. I’d like to thank the waiters for a superb service and making us feel extremely well looked after.

Totally disappointed ... what’s happened ? Been coming here on and off for many years but after tonight we will think twice about returning. Whilst the restaurant has great style , lovely furnishing , crisp linen and generally great cleanliness. The food was below average Ordered several main dishes , chicken delivered in all of them missing , lamb and vegetarian .... one chicken dish had 3 pieces of chicken which was very tasty , but the remainder of the dish was onion and onion and more onion ! Coconut rice was tasteless , dry and disappointing. All in all we came out disappointed , and I personally hungry which is a first for me as I usually need a sleep After my meal ☹️ whilst they never charged us for the chicken dish which was just full of onion and should have been a lamb dish , I’m not impressed by this. I shouldn’t be expected to pay for a dish we didn’t order and the dish was just FULL of onions. So whilst I paid in full and left £5 tip ... I sadly will not be returning. Little India I have been coming here for over 10 years , have always had the best food best service etc but this was shocking tonight ... totally gutted. ☹️

After a a couple of visits to other Indian restaurants in the area we have decided this is THE best around. Great choice of dishes with real depth of flavour lacking in so many Indian restaurants. Great service and our regular Sunday evening treat.

Starter did not arrive apparently they had ordered 2 mains for 1 person when ordered main arrived it was chicken but prawns ordered in a sizzling dish which was nowhere in sight they thought it ok for my partner to eat his meal with shared rice and veg While the meal I ordered was being cooked when my meal arrived not as ordered not eaten as not what was ordered their only compensation was to knock off glass of wine that wasn’t drunk due to not eating meal hugely disappointing meal as it was my birthday such a shame will never eat here again

I booked online and received a telephone call within minutes to discuss and confirm arrangements. We used the sanitiser as we entered and received a warm, friendly greeting and shown to our table by a window, which I'd asked for. Tables were properly spaced and everywhere was spotlessly clean. Drinks and poppadoms were quickly served. Timing of our main courses was just right and wow what fabulous flavours. Generous portion size, and absolutely delicious. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and lit with a warm ambience that is conducive to conversation and general enjoyment. We'll return soon. Warmly recommended. Clive.

Pretty good COVID systems in place. Tables spread out well. Some waiters not wearing masks properly, though. It’s a very lovely building and the interior is fabulous and creates a great atmosphere. Service was fairly slow, but as we were in no rush that was ok. However, the service was not very attentive at all. They didn’t ask how our food was until the very end, they didn’t ask if we wanted more drinks (ended up with one drink all night), and no general interest being shown. On leaving there was no “Thank you, etc” Drinks: £4.50 for Cokes, which were warm and flat. Good: The food was presented very nicely with lots of colour and looked great, but I was really disappointed just how average the food tasted (the main courses could be described as being bland). I guess we were expecting something special., especially when you’re paying more than other Indian restaurants. Verdict: A very nice setting and great interior, however, with very average food and average service, it was not good value for money.

We booked online and received a confirmation email but on arrival to the restaurant they didn’t have a note of our booking. Apparently this is a common problem that the owners are aware of but have failed to fix. The website booking system doesn’t work. We were however found a table that was very quickly cleaned for us and popadums and drinks were brought out quickly and were good. After the dishes were cleared though there was a 30 min wait until our order was taken. We went on a Wednesday during the eat out to help out scheme and despite the restaurant being completely full there were only 3 wait staff. Once our order was taken the food was ok if a little in the cold side. We also requested a jug of water 3 times but didn’t get one at all. By the time we left, other customers were complaining about the wait times and their meals and the waiters were arguing with each other due to the stress of trying to get to everyone. There was also a buildup of dirty tables waiting to be cleared and one of the waiters was walking around the entire time with his mask under his chin! When the bill arrived a 10% service charge had automatically been added for which the waiter apologised and said he couldn’t override it on the till. Needless to say we didn’t pay it. This was our second visit to Little India, the first was a Sunday buffet that was only adequate but we thought we’d give them another try. I wish we hadn’t.

I came here for dinner with my family recently following the lockdown. We really enjoyed our meals and the service was great. We felt that our table was very clean and safely distanced from other tables. All staff were wearing masks and kept a safe distance. Very enjoyable experience and our first out of lockdown!

Best Indian restaurant in the area. Peshwari Nan to die for.

We really love the Sunday buffet here. The flavours are deep and subtle and a world away from many Indian restaurants. We are lucky that it's our local.

This is by far the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. The food is second to none. I highly recommend the Tawa- superb. Staff are always friendly. Service can be slow, but it's worth the wait!

I've been coming to this restaurant and hand on heart have never had a bad meal. There a few Indian restaurants in Halstead and none even come close to the quality of the food here. Can the service be a bit slow? On busy nights maybe but why are they busy ? Is it a little more expensive ? Yes but it's worth it and again it does get busy. Advise to book in advance at weekends . For the recent one star reviews .....absolutely ridiculous. I'd rather pay a bit more and get quality food than go to any of the other restaurants in Halstead which are on a par with the ready meals available in the local supermarket.

Sadly a lifetime of support for this, once exceptional restaurant has come to an end through poor customer service.Cold food delivered to the table 50 mins after ordering and an exceptionally bad response from the manager left me leaving this establishment very upset.Best of luck for your future

I’ve been here a few times and the food has always been good. On last visit though it was extremely good and some of the best Indian food I’ve had in a long time. Try the Xacuti chicken and coconut Nepalese dish. Absolute highlights but it was all good as was the attentive service.

I have eaten in this resturant many times, the food has always been great and the service excellent. I have taken members of my extended family here and all have enjoyed it and want to return.On my last visit the waiter told me that there had been price changes to the menu. On inspection I found that main course items had increased by 2 or 3 pounds each. At the end of the meal this added a good 20 pounds to the final price.The resturant was not cheap to start with, but was reasonable given the quality of the food. The latest price hike i feel is a step too far and now make it unreasonable.I am sorry that I am now looking for a new, more reasonably priced Indian to become my regular.

Went here a few years ago. Shockingly poor service, rude waiter, food was ok though. Went back more recently. Service was worse than the first time, food was ok. Won’t be going back a third time for sure! Very expensive, especially the drinks!t

We decided to take friends here for their first Indian food experience. We are not local so took a recommendation. The quality of the food was very good. The timing of the service also excellent. Being made to feel like a valued customer, not so good. The staff are polite at best but no real customer care. Noone asked how our meals were, and when we left it was a 'fine', paying the bill, got no interaction at all. Felt like we were an imposition rather than a valued customer. Food portions were generous but the most expensive Indian food we've ever had. Overall, our group had a nice dinner and enjoyed the meal. Be nicer if they picked up their customer relations!

Food is amazing, staff attentive and friendly. A must place to go and eat. They happily accommodate the food for kids.. even when ketchup is wanted!

As before really, the food is really nice and the staff do try their best to be helpful and there when needed, however I do agree with some recent reviews, about the price increase, it really over the top, it was value for money, is it now ? perhaps not, given that its out of the way, and you need to travel to it, I do think they should review these increases.

Have just arrived home after eating in this restaurant, and it was possibly the best Indian food I've had in this country. Everything was tasted fantastic, plus the service was friendly, prompt and polite. I'd particularly recommend the makhani, plus the poppadums before the meal tasted great.

After moving to the Halstead area we had been looking for an Indian Restaurant to try and the reviews online for this place were great!

It was the first time we visited this establishment after recommendation by the AAA Guide of Excellence.

I eat a lot of curry. I'm also very fussy when it comes to curry. Myself and a p thought we'd try Little India, as we hadn't visited before. I'm glad we did. The menu is clear and easy to understand, and has a very broad selection of dishes. The staff are happy to suggest dishes for you to try if you can't make your mind up. Food was brought out swiftly, and tasted brilliant. The curry dishes were full of flavour, and good sized portions. The rice was particularly nice, and a bit more special than the usual rice dishes. Service was excellent in all areas. Price is about right for Indian restaurants in the area. A modest sized meal and a pint came in at just over £25 per head. I can recommend this restaurant, and will visit again.

This is a regular haunt when we have a group with an urge for Curry. Good service and atmosphere, superb food!

My husband and I tried Little India for the first time last night and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere and decor was modern and the food and service amazing. We will definitely be back with family and friends.

Visited with family for evening meal and New Year festivities.

We have dropped In to the restaurant in the evening midweek and on a Saturday, and always got a seat. That’s not to say it’s not a popular destination, it’s just the management always try to accommodate the customer.

We do like to check on others opinions, however this did not live up to previous comments, In fact we would not go back, at first impression all was good, nice and friendly greeting, although English seemed to be a problem ?

as we had been before we tried on the off chance with family , they fitted us in, they were their normal polite selves, the food once again was great, service as always good cant wait to return

The consistently good Little India failed terribly! The service was very poor, too busy I think! The food ordered, Tandoori Lamb, requested to be crispy, was totally incinerated!!! Burnt black like a very poor BBQ meal!!!. No waiter asked how our food was during the meal and not even when they cleared the table! I pointed out that the food was burnt and the reaction and tone of the reply from the waiter was very disappointing and very defensive. I could have sent the food back, but we had to wait 40 minutes for the meal and just tried to pick the bits we could eat. Time was getting on and we were not in the mood to cause a fuss! I think we will vote with our feet and will not be returning for a very long time, if ever!

Have been going to this restaurant for years and it is always perfect. Lately though our family have all gone vegetarian and vegan so there is so much choice for them here. Our daughter said it was the best thing she had ever eaten! The staff are very efficient and even served up our homemade cake for my birthday plus a gift of a bottle of wine from the management. This is our choice of restaurant for a tasty treat or a special meal any time.

Little India is always the place of choice for a family celebration, there being a sense of occasion as soon as you enter the premises. The food is in our experience, always excellent, as is the service. Costs are reasonable, and the helpings plentiful. Our latest visit was well up to expectations!

Returned again to our favourite Indian Restaurant and went for vegetarian food as we’ve gone more veggie lately. Plenty to choose from and delicious. Most pubs :restaurants only offer one dish which is vegetarian but you’re spoilt for choice here.

I've eaten in before but this is the best takeaway curry we've found in the local Area. Only wish they would deliver but we're happy to collect all their dishes are super yummy.

Went to restaurant for our son in laws birthday treat, food was delicious service was first class, all in all made for a very enjoyable visit would go back when visiting again, they even provided a small meal for our grand daughter which she enjoyed a nice touch!

We were recommended to eat here by the host of the accommodation we were staying in during a short break. It was busy but quite rightly so as the food we had was delicious and plentiful. The menu was extensive and reasonably priced. The decor, service and ambience were added bonuses!!!

We visit frequently, and as someone who lists India 4-5 times per year I find this the only restaurant in the area that has any resemblance to how I eat in India. The cuisine is more north Indian/Pakistani/Afghan related rather than southern Indian, but it very tasty. I would recommend especially the Nizami Chicken, the Afghan Lamb, the Baghari Gosht and the Cauliflower Bahji (note, not a bah like an onion bah but a cauliflower dish - I find cauliflower the king of vegetables for Indian cookery).

Well worth a visit. Consistently good and tasty food. Vast choice on the menu at a fair price too. All areas clean and restaurant area very pleasant. Enjoy.

Went here for my sons birthday as his choice. Food on the whole good, but crab cake starter stone cold. Had to wait a long time for drinks, flat coke finally arrived after chasing it up. No one came to see if we wanted extra drinks. Main course good but prawn dish rather small, could have been more generous considering the price. Dont feel that price charged for the meal overall was good value and service could have been better.

As we were staying in the area and had past this restaurant during the day, we decided to have a meal there in the evening. The restaurant was quite busy but we didn't have to wait very long to get served.. We enjoyed the food and thought the prices were reasonable.

I have been patronising Little India since it opened. The staff are always welcoming and have educated me and especially my son who now enjoys diverse Asian food thanks to their interest in our dining pleasure.

Lovely decoration food was nice service very poor had 1 drink with meal no one came back to ask if food was ok and maybe ask if we needed any think else . Had to go and find a waiter to take our order a...

Popped in with my partner for a meal. The restaurant was half full and service was top class. The food is of a very high standard and piping hot. My only gripe is that people were smoking in the entrance area between the outer and inner doors. I don't think this should be allowed. Every time the doors opened you got a waft of cigarette smoke coming in.

This was actually some time ago (nearly a year ago). I'd booked a table for my son and I to have a meal, when at the last minute my wife also wanted to come along. When we arrived I explained there were actually three of us and not two, and was met with rude comments about their ability to cope with the increased number. Shortly after this, my wife and I ventured back again. I ordered lamb rogan. The meat was tough, and I duly complained. The manager came over and basically said it was the butcher's fault when this happened, and there was nothing he could do about it - it was the luck of the draw. We were not even offered a drink by way of apology. The staff need training in their approach to dealing with people. We haven't and will not be returning
