The Bekash Restaurant in Basildon

The food was amazing (can't fault it) but what let's this place down is the staff. Unfortunately they are very rude. Firstly, they mocked my friends and I for ordering a lot of food. I mean, that's what we're there for! Laughed at us when they came over half way through eating to take our plates but we wasn't finished. Suggesting that we couldn't possible need to eat more. And when it came to paying the bill, we rounded it up and the waiter said "is that all". We said "pardon". He said "is that the all you're going to tip". Which really ruined our lovely evening out. And we won't be going back because of it.

Had a great meal with 6 friends for a catch up. Food choice was amazing and everyone said how nice the food was. Staff were nice and we was not rushed as was there around 2 hours. Highly recommend. Worked out about £30 each.

Food is always amazing, staff always willing to go above expectations. Have regular take aways from here when working and it's the highlight of the week.

VISIT DATE: FRI 06/09/2024 VISIT TIME: 18:00 The Beckash is a very popular restaurant, situated on the road into Wickford as you come off the A127. It has a good amount of parking spaces, is nicely decorated and can accommodate a large number of people at the same time. Staff are friendly and attentive and there are a number of dishes to choose from on the menu. I visited with my Aunt and Uncle who live near by and we ordered a selection of dishes, including onion bhaji, sag paneer, Bombay potato, mushroom rice and lamb balti. The onion bhajis were outstanding; beautifully crisp, delicate and delicious. I would highly recommend them. The rest of the food was good, but everything was extremely salty, which meant I couldn't really taste any of the flavours of the dishes properly and did put me off from coming back in future.

Food is very tasty, chilled atmosphere, not to expensive.

They put us in a poky table at the back of the restaurant.Meal was average.We've not been back

First of all I would like to clarify (as it seems some do not understand) that there is a difference between Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine. Thus, it should stop claiming as serving Indian cuisine. The taste of the food was okay. Having said that, the biryani is not traditional biryani but more of a masala rice with some biryani spices used while cooking (and I am speaking from experience having had food at multiple restaurants internationally and been born and brought up in India). We were sold plain and simple yogurt in the name of raita. To top it all, we were served hand written bill that was incorrect. When we challenged the authenticity/appropriateness of all that was mentioned in the bill, one of the staff (he claimed himself to be the owner as well) started abusing and misbehaving infront of our family (with women and children around). After pointing out one of the flaws in the bill, they adjusted that amount only but did not even have the decency to apologise or justifying the rest of the items in the handwritten bill. It was a traumatic experience for me and my family. I will never be going there. For the rest, hope good sense prevails for future interactions.

Always a friendly welcome. We always order a variety of dishes and we’re never disappointed! Never leave here without full stomachs and a smile on our faces! Will be back soon!

The restaurant and food are of amazing quality and never fails to deliver. I have been a loyal customer here for 25 years now. It truly is a top-quality restaurant.

Brilliant food and service will definitely go again

Just had my Bank holiday Monday take away from the Bekash And as alway the service and friendly staff are second to none. And the food is as always fantastic. Got to be the best Indian for miles around. I’ve been dinning and having my take aways for over 30 years and the food have always been brilliant.

Food quality is very bad and taste aswell.. Don't try biriani..

Food was good, The service was a bit urgent as when the minuet you empty your plate arms came in from all directions clearing the table and that was annoying when your trying to eat something. One major thing which me and the rest of my family thought was disgusting , we could hear one of the waiters at the bar was clearing his lungs trying to get rid of flem from his throat. Very bad in my view as you wonder what they do in the kitchen's.

Lovely food, well worth a visit

Always a great evening and great food, never has disappointed me or the family, the service is wonderful, they are all polite and respectful, the meals are red hot and tasty. I always recommend.

The food was good but the service was not so good as the staff all seemed miserable, we did not see any smiles. It was a shame as I have eaten there several times, but not for a few years, and it used to be a good place to eat. I will not hurry back

We visited Bekash during a wet evening and our boots were a little muddy due to walking in the car park that’s unmade and has puddles and wholes everywhere, although the restaurant only had one table being served at and was completely empty they turned us away because of our boots. I’ve never been so embarrassed in my life. I won’t return and hope that they read this and improve on their customer service.

We always look forward to our visits to The Bekash. Have been going here for years now and always had very good food and good service. The restaurant is always clean and welcoming.

Simply the best Indian in Essex. Whenever we visit family in the area, we always book in. We have been going there since it opened. When family come to Essex from Scotland and Canada, the Bekash is a must. Great food, good price and a very warm and friendly welcome. My best recommendation I can give.

We were a party of 18, had a great time, the staff worked together to make sure we had food and drinks when requested, service was second to none, food tasted great and we look forward to returning

Excellent service. We had Vegetarian and prawn dishes and they were not that good. There were large chunks of potatoes in all the vegetarian dishes. The raita was just a tub of yoghurt with chopped onions on top of it- a basic raita should contain garlic, ginger, onions, tomatoes, cucumber, coriander and mint leaves, garam Masala and lime.

Best food ever, great price, good value for money, will use all the time will never go anywhere else family of 4 all loved it, thank you for the best service and food

Mediocre but clearly popular with the locals. Better curry houses in this area. Voujon and The Raj. Best takeaway is Zara. Bekash was ok, but nothing really exciting. The Lamb Tikka Dansak was disappointed and sauce too loose. Not well spiced. Sagg Paneer was more a creamed Paneer Sagg and not well spiced. Kemma Nann was dreadful. Generally bland. Tried it as we've seen this place in our travels. It's reasonably priced otherwise.

My folks had just come down from India, and during our stay at Battlesbridge, we were searching for a good Indian lunch place. The nearest we could find, which was actually open at lunch time, was The Bekash Restaurant at Basildon. So we decided to give it a shot - and we were not disappointed at all! Right from the time we entered the restaurant we were made to feel at home by the staff who made sure we were comfortable (considering we had 2 senior citizens and an infant). The wait time from placing the order to getting the food was about 20 mins, and every minute was worth the wait, as we got exactly what we wanted - good Indian food but with minimal spice levels so that it suits our stomachs on a vacation. Add to that the convenient location, their sweet gesture of offering us some complimentary mint chocolates to round off a hearty meal, and of course their warm smiles - will ensure that we will surely come back again. Highly recommended to everyone in Basildon and Wickford area.

Popped in for a takeaway. Met with friendly greeting by the staff! When placing the order they were very attentive and made recommendations - the chicken tikka starter was the best I've tried! The food came in no more than 10 minutes and I left with lots of friendly farewells and smiles. The meal that I had was beautiful! Thank you so much to the team I will be back again for sure 😁

Do not look at the menu online and expect it to be available in the restaurant. The waiter said it was from 4 years ago. Why didn't they update it? Do not expect any deviation from the static menu. Every other Indian restaurant and take-out I've been to has been able to make special requests. Not here. I asked for a Dhansak with sag, brinjal & mushroom. Not possible. The waiter wouldn't even ask the chef. It's not rocket science. They have all the ingredients but to make a dhansak with just those 3 items was impossible. Apparently. How ridiculous. I'd wanted to eat here for a long time but obviously expectations outweigh reality. Really disappointed.

Yogurt sauce!!! I would usually buy a lamb biryani at least once a month from Bekash which would come with a side of vegetable curry, fresh salad and a small pot of yogurt sauce. Tonight when I visited and got my takeaway meal I noticed that the yogurt sauce and fresh vegetables were missing. When I asked about them, the staff cashing said that it was not included, his colleague still offered me a tub (which looked larger than the one usually receive). The staff who was cashing then had the audacity to say to me that the next time I order I will not get any yogurt sauce......news flash my friend, I will NEVER order another meal from your establishment!!!

Lovely. Not over spiced and really good flavours. If you normally like a 2 🌶️ dish then maybe upgrade to a 3?

Having received a curry cook book for Christmas 2020, where I now make home cooked curries with authentic spices and masala's, I think my taste buds have been spoiled with flavour that few curry houses can duplicate given the time they have to prepare your food. That said, there is nothing I would criticise at The Bekash, I've been visiting it over a number of years and have never had a bad meal or service, I just know how enhanced flavours can be if preparation time allows.

Food was ok! Not the best Indian cuisine I have had. The food was just a bit bland and flat. Service was good. No decaf coffee!

Where do I start? Not only is this my favourite restaurant but one of my favourite places to be. Absolutely everything about this restaurant is done to perfection including the consistently high quality and luxurious food, the choice of food, the appropriate pricing, the fast and efficient service, the welcoming atmosphere and not to forget the friendly staff who put a personal touch on each individual customer. My friend and I went on the 14th January for dinner. The restaurant was busy, so great ambience and staff were amazing. Food was great. I forgot to take photos of the food, but it was very nice!

4 of us went for a meal at the end of october. The restaurant is large, well spaced and nicely set up. For starters we had the prawn puree, all of which were amazing. For mains we had chicken biryani, lamb bhuna and chicken korai. The biryani was very nice, but the latter two were quite bland (although it was the first time trying either of those dishes). I would probably recommend giving it a go, but I wouldn't say it was particular amazing.

Great evening for my son's birthday, food and service excellent.

Went there to celebrate my Uncle's 80th last Saturday. The restaurant is big and spacious. It was extremely busy with 3 other separate groups celebrating birthdays that day too. The staff were very courteous and attentive. We waited in their waiting area as we were early and had a drink until we were shown to our tables. We were in their conservatory which was great as we had a large group of 17. Throughout the meal the waiters were on hand to take orders for drinks, tea and coffee and dare I say it, even more food. Had a pleasant be experience at this restaurant and the food was delicious. We had no trouble parking there and left the restaurant full, happy and content. I couldn't finish my curry as I had a large portion so I asked for a doggy bag. The staff were exceptional, very patient and efficient. I give this restaurant 10 out of 10.
