The best restaurants serving British food in Scotland

The staff were brilliant! We met up for lunch and my cousin explained how she had recently had her gallbladder removed and as a consequence was unable to eat certain foods. The lady who took our order was magnificent. She explained in detail which items on the menu would be suitable and which could be adapted to our needs. There was no pressure to order quickly and we were given plenty of time to consider all the choices before ordering our food. All the other members of staff that we encountered were friendly, pleasant, professional and efficient. It was a lovely experience. Sadly the building seemed a little unloved and perhaps does not give a good first impression but I would highly recommend this restaurant regardless of its outer appearance!!

Wow! The food was amazing! Best steak and ale pie I’ve had in a long time, chicken burger cooked lovely and loved the onion rings, service was fantastic, lovely people, very friendly and happy, would definitely visit again.

Booked an afternoon tea for my wife and I and we were not disappointed. Absolutely amazing service and great food. Clear explanation of a range of teas and what was included in the package. Home made savouries and sandwiches were first class. Could not eat all the cakes and they kindly put them in a box to take home. A lovely treat. Excellent staff , service and food. You must visit this place to appreciate the hospitality and food.

Service was terrible compared to other buzzworks I’ve been to. Starter arrived before our drinks. Wrong main course came and waitress had an attitude that I should just eat it. Moved us tables half way through. Wrong drink came and other drinks ordered didn’t come at all. Totally ruined our NYE.

Having always enjoyed meals at The Doll’s House we imagined this was a mere name change, and were drawn in by the offer of a reasonably priced set menu all day Wednesday and Thursday. Inside the decor was smart enough and the waitress pleasant. However they were unaware of the set menu offer clearly advertised outside, and then said they’d still put our meal through at that price so long as we didn’t order anything expensive ! This wasn’t easy as five dishes were already sold out by 7.30, leaving little choice. The soups were ok, as was my deer, but my wife’s ratatouille was the most ridiculous item I’ve ever seen offered as main dish- three slices of undercooked courgette, a few tomatoes swimming in a watery sauce. We skipped desserts and were presented with a bill of £72, the manager having forgotten her promise. On appeal she applied a discount, but £58 was still very expensive for an experience that could charitably be described as poor. I’d steer well clear - there is no shortage of places to eat in St Andrews.

Really bad experience here. Stopped for lunch after driving three hours and the place was half empty. Regardless, when we asked for a table for two, the member of staff pretty much scoffed at us and gave us a flat “no”. Waving her hands around and saying they were far too short staffed and not accepting any more people. It would have been much more professional and polite to let us know it could be a bit of a wait for a table rather than laugh at us and make us feel silly for even asking. How were we to know an empty restaurant was understaffed? We felt really unwelcome and we won’t be back.

Great steaks and service by happy team. Reasonably priced for the size and quality of steaks. Plenty of Parking and no booking but tables ususally quickly available in a rustic but warm environment.

Decent lunch venue good facilities and experience

We stopped by for some lunch and had the carrot, chilli and coconut soup of the day. Came with some soft, seeded bread and anchor butter. Was a supremely tasty meal and filling too. "I would have it every day". Our server Lauren was friendly and without fault, excellent service. The interior is a rustic pub, without eons of patina, there's a pleasant atmosphere. I would recommend the soup wholeheartedly!

Family get together for nice meal on Christmas Eve coming from different areas so not too far for us all Great choice of food from youngsters to oldies and all in between

Stood next to the wait here sign for more than 5 minutes whilst the girl doing the coffees refused to acknowledge us. Eventually had a table pointed out to us in silence. I went up to order a pizza and a couple of sides. One of us wasn’t feeling amazing so I asked that instead of a full fry up, could we just have eggs on toast. Guy behind the bar told me that the “chef” wouldn’t want to “change the recipe that much”. Needless to say we left and went elsewhere for a sandwich. None of the staff seemed bothered and one was even wearing AirPods which I’m sure really helps with customer service.

Wonderful view overlooking the Loch, warm friendly pub with twinkling lights. Nice pub type food options & the steak & pie were delicious. The bedroom was clean, comfy bed, great shower & Loch view & had a fab coffee machine. Barman friendly & made a whisky suggestion & it was delicious 😋 breakfast was plentiful & sets you up for the day. If I was being picky I would say fresh fruit & a cappuccino instead of filter coffee but this would not stop us returning & we will definitely return.

Fanta drinks appeared to be diluted, very much weaker than that bought at supermarket. Small portions of food. Not value for money. Chicken water drenched.

Outstanding service by Stella and bohan, perfectly cooked food. Exceptional atmosphere and drinks spot on. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back. Bohan went above and beyond, nothing was too much bother and he made the visit extra special.
