Cults Hotel Restaurant in Aberdeen City

My wife and I came for just one night while traveling in Scotland. First impression, very positive. Later, a little less. The room is small and shows its age. However, our biggest problem was with the bathroom, where some of the towels smelled of chlorine. Even though the room was located on the street side, the room was quiet and peaceful. A big plus is the kitchen and breakfasts, which are served a la carte. By comparing prices we could have chosen better. We won't come back, but we don't intend to discourage anyone from going there either.

Had a fantastic experience at Ghe Cults Hotel. The new owners are cutting no corners on the quality of food and service. Our room was immaculate and the staff went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable. We didn't have to go far for our meals as the breakfast, lunch and dinner menu had something for the whole family.

My partner and I came up to Aberdeen on a business trip over the weekend. Our first impression of the hotel was great however, things went downhill very quickly. When trying to get into our room the key snapped due to a bad lock. We went to the front desk to inform them and they said they did not have a spare key for us to take, they only had the house key which we were not allowed to keep during our stay. We requested to move rooms due to this. The room they swapped up in was absolutely horrible compared to the first. It was a big downgrade from the previous one. We asked if there was a discount on the room downgrade as it was very small, dull and did not have the complementary coffee and tea. The receptionist said that there was no discount as the rooms are the same price. After we said we were not happy about this they did offer to move us to a suit free of charge. The suit was a little bigger but nothing fancy. The ceiling in the bathroom still had mould on it and there was visible dampness on the walls in the room. There was not a lot of things to choose on the menu. We did not receive what we ordered for breakfast. In terms of choosing how you would like your eggs or what bread for toast. This did not come to us how we asked and when I asked the man who was serving us he looked confused and it was not fixed. The price for drinks are very expensive as well and you do not get great value for money.

We had a meal with our two children today for Mother’s Day. We all enjoyed our meal. My gammon roast was delicious - with loads of lovely veg under the meat. The staff were lovely, it was a great atmosphere and they even had some balloons and decorations up. Despite it being a busy service - the staff were attentive and did really well. The man organising the service did really well and spoke to everyone as they came in and out - making everyone feel really welcome. We’ll definitely be back again! Hope you all get your feet up after what will no doubt be a busy dinner service tonight too! Thanks for a lovely Mother’s Day lunch!

My godparents had their 50th anniversary there and I couldn’t make it being from Canada, but I’ve just been and it did not disappoint!! It started with the best scotch egg I’ve ever had. The local pear and barbecue sauce with it was so good I could put it on everything! Then I had their feathered flank of beef that did not require a knife at all it was so tender. It was accompanied by the nicest gravy, no heartburn or bloating after. Great meal, and the staff were attentive and very professional. The new waiter over from Ardo House deserves a raise! He was spot on all night long and a joy to deal with :)

This is a great hotel with beautiful cosy rooms, great service and great food. I love my stay every time here and is a great location for walks in the surrounding Deeside and close to town. Thanks to Sarah at reception who has just got it for taking care of customers.

Cults Hotel has gone down hill from before.

Used to be a 4 star but today it's looking tired and in need of some TLC. Rooms are showing their age with wallpaper coming away from the walls and plasticity carpet. The bathroom was mouldy, bath panelling all cracked; grout and silicone all mouldy also. Bedroom walls are super thin and you can hear full conversations happening nextdoor. Got woke at 5am with rig workers coming in. They weren't being loud just talking. Breakfast is subpar, menu is lacking and the vegan/veg options being a joke. No pastry and the fruit was by its best. The night staff were fantastic however the front of house in the morning were lacking refinement.

Eaten here a couple of times, the staff are very polite and willing to please and the food is good. On a recent trip my wife forgot to ask about the soup of the day having cream in it, as she's lactose intolerant and reacts badly to cream. After a few spoonfuls she thought it might so asked, the kitchen replaced it with a version without cream.

Rooms are clean if a little dated, view wasn't great but only issue I had, the mini balcony was still nice, but only room for one. Breakfast was great, though the pastries selection is small they do refill it, the cooked breakfast was fantastic.

Poor choice of menu. They used to have a good variety. Disappointing.

Had an overnight here the service was amazing the staff couldn't have been nicer the rooms were nice and clean also had some food whick was really nice, matthew on reception couldn't have been more helpful from helping with phoning taxies and recommended places for us to go would definitely recommend this place if your in Aberdeen

Was here for an event in the upstairs function room. Food was terrific and staff were very attentive and made us feel welcome. 5 stars and the rest!!

Together with friends we had a delicious meal before Christmas. I had feather blade of beef. Tender and tasty. Others had monkfish scampi and my husband a beef burger. Desserts equally tasty, sticky toffee pudding, Christmas pud and brownie. Staff were very friendly and attentive. It wasn’t busy, which is a shame because it was a perfect meal a week before Christmas.

My wife and I went here on Saturday night for our meal. On arrival we were shown to our table, we were then give a bottle of water and glasses before, the waiter then took our drinks order. Shortly after having a chance to view the menu, I ordered the haggis Bon Bons as a starter both my wife and I ordered the fish and chips although saying that my wife had the smaller portion of fish from the menu. All the food that we received was well presented and served by pleasant friendly staff. After eating our main courses my wife and I decided that we would share a portion of blueberry cheesecake which was delicious. Have been to this hotel previously and will most certainly return.

Stayed one night here and had a pleasant stay. Double room on top floor very comfortable and cosy. Coffee tea and milk provided with some biscuits a welcome addition.Parking is limited but free. Unfortunately don’t allow dogs, so I won’t be a regular visitor.

Friendly, helpful staff, accepting a last minute change of booking without trouble. Friday evening dinner. Food ranged from very acceptable to very nice. Rather limited wine list. One mistake they made was failing to offer a small amount of wine to one of us for tasting/approval. I know it's a gesture, but even so. Waiting staff all friendly, food delivered to our large party efficiently. Place was busy - a good sign. The dishes are not cheap, so this is a place for a celebration night out.

The hotel itself is lovely and staff very friendly helpful and professional. Recently visited but was saddened to see one vegan option on the menu and no starters or deserts. The cults hotel is a family favourite for occasion meals however with two visits this year I had to have the same meal on both occasions made it a bit predictable and boring. Come on guys up your game!

Been going to the Cults Hotel for some years now without disappointment but today this changed, we called in past for the Sunday Roast, I must say the portion size was very good but the Roast Patotos and the Yorkshire Pudding were over cooked and hard also the oatmeal stuffing was dry, not once did any of the very young waiting staff come over and asked how our meal was. Sorry i have to write this but we will not be back.

I spent the evening with my wife for a birthday party on the second floor and the service was quite disorganised, especially while serving dinner. The food was annoyingly small in portion and obviously less than what was ordered as everyone in the party had paid for their dinner. The food was cold as if it was prepared hours before the event. There were not enough cutleries for all guests and I had to get out of the room, ask for more and bring them in myself to distribute among the guests! There was not even a jar of water around. Very disappointing! I wrote the similar comment in Google with the hope that other people won’t ruin their events and the hotel managers take it serious and make appropriate corrective action.

It was an upsetting evening with such a poor service, inexperienced assigned staff and inadequate food portions. We had a discussion with staff which was responded with an impudent behavior.

Would give it a zero if I could. Customer services were rude and aggressive. Bartender didn’t know how should behave with a customer. Come here if you want attitude.

We arranged a surprise birthday party there, first of all their service was so poor and their staff were so unfriendly and aggressive, also they even didn’t stationed a barman for a bar that was located in function room and when we complained, we were told that we should ask in advance for it and they should charge us for a staff in the bar, but this time we will ignore it ! In dinner time while we ordered and paid 5 items finger foods for 44 people, plus for each person salad or fries , they provided for us just this plates that filled just once!! ( as per attached photos ). Stage lamp was not working, We couldn’t breathe in the hall as the air circulation was really horrible. When we asked to put the tables with more distant form each other, they did this job for us With a lot of grunting🤦‍♀️ Briefly, I almost organised 100 parties in my life and it was the worse 👎

The fish and chips was tasty but the service very slow.

We only went there for food. The menu has changed and it was less interesting than the previous one. Everything we tasted was blunt. The service was polite but very slow and the place is always beautiful

Average food, poor service, over priced and what happened things that people like to eat for lunch like a soup and sandwich combo or a Caesar salad? I don’t want roast chicken at £17 thanks very much. So disappointed - been coming here for years but won’t be back unless serious improvements are made

Had lunch here on Saturday in the conservatory. Good service, we where not rushed once we had all finished eating. The fish and chips was very good, but no room for desert.

Having been a regular for 25 years, and happy to embrace the new management/owner/ menu, I’m so disappointed in the variety of choice. I Have eaten there 4 times in the past year and the menu hasn’t improved,. The focus is very much on the fish dishes, which is a shame , as it immediately Discludes meat eaters. The scampi has got more meagre on every visit and is certainly not worth the price tag. Staff are pleasant and attentive, but this unfortunately does not compensate for the poor meal quality. The starters were lovely, but the mains were poor. Unless they extend the menu, I certainly would not recommend the restaurant to families or meat eaters.

Used to frequent Cults Hotel for something to eat regularly. It always has a good selection on menu. Unfortunately now it's just a choice of burgers or macaroni. Beef is off we were told. Nice surroundings but far too expensive.

pleasant helpful staff, spacious tables, good covid saftely measures, very clean, food average, prices well above average! Had high hopes of returning here as under new management, so thought the Nautical theme from the former Mariner restaurant would have merited a similar menu. Very few fish choices, despte being in Aberdeen!! Missisng a trick here as we badly need more seafood restaurants at Deeside! Only haddock really on offer, expected turbot and many other fish. Ended up with duck which was nice but small and a bit expensive. Overall it is OK!

Tried the restaurant for the first time with my wife last night having previously ordered superior bar snacks from the same menu when we were courting. Our favourite snack was always the black pudding Scotch Eggs with turnip slaw, which come highly recommended and justify a visit on their own. We chose the restaurant for a date night meal.When I booked online, I specified that I would need dairy and gluten free options where available and was presented with a separate gluten free menu upon arrival- which had plenty of starters and mains to choose from. The waitress was also able to advise on dairy free options not included on the menu. I ordered the Smoked Salmon started with Beetroot, followed by the Baked Cod on Quinoa (with a side of crushed potatoes), and a scoop each of Rhubard and Dark Cherry sorbet for dessert. The beetroot complimented the salmon perfectly and was clearly fresh as opposed to jarred. The baked cod was perfectly cooked and went perfectly with the quinoa and saffron (although I recommend ordering the crushed potatoes to go with this if you're hungry, or ordering a bigger starter, as the portion size is on the small side). Of the 2 scoops of sorbet I had, the rhubarb was a revelation, so I definitely recommend sampling if you're after a dairy free dessert option - although I have previously shared the coconut and pineapple panna cotta with my wife, which is the tastiest dairy free/gluten free dessert option the menu and a generously sized portion. Lastly, I need to talk about the coffee, which may be the best I've yet tasted in Aberdeen and is available with various milk alternatives as well as decaf. Minor criticisms: Both of the toilet cubicles in the gents left a bit to be desired and could have done with a clean. I also feel as though the conservatory restaurant setting, while perfectly comfortable and attractively decorated, is perhaps less than ideal if you are wanting a romantic evening meal for two, as is brightly lit which doesn't make for the most intimate ambience.

This was a very disappointing visit. The menu is now greatly reduced. The food was not great but not awful. It was the price of the soft drinks which left me reeling. A half pint of soda and lime(half filled with ice), £2.90! I was overcharged it should have been £2.20. We were also over-charged for a large bottle of mineral water it should have cost £4.25, we were charged £5.50. Even so still ridiculous prices for soft drinks. I only found this out by contacting the manager, who admitted there was a problem with the tills which his "tech people" have now sorted out!

Fabulous meal at The Cults Hotel on 17 October 2021. The hotel has been under new management since August 2020. I've been several times and the quality of food is excellent. The manager, chefs and key staff moved from The Mariner Hotel and Atlantis restaurant(Aberdeen) after it closed in lockdown. On a whim, we phoned ahead to see if they could accommodate my daughter, who has Coeliac Disease and has to follow a strict gluten-free diet. We were amazed and delighted when we found out that they had a gluten-free menu. (Bonus - they also have a vegetarian menu.) The restaurant were very reassuring and explained that they have a separate fryer so that gluten-free chips are not cross-contaminated with bread crumbs or batter. It was so special for us as a family being able to all eat out together. Sometimes she has to stay home when restaurants cannot accommodate. The room was clean and well prepared with good services. Everything was very clean and the bed was comfy. However noise from the corridor and rooms around us was very evident. We could here people's discussions from other rooms as well as the corridor and the constant hum of toilet fans going on and off. We had a room at the back of the hotel which had a balcony which was so small only one person could sit and it looked out onto a garden allotment. No actual view. The parking arrangements were so absurd it was hilarious. Go up the slip road/track at the side of the hotel and use the old Aberdeen water works road to squeeze your car into. The photographs of the hotel from the outside are a little misleading. The staff were warm and welcoming but one did get the impression of organised chaos. In the restaurant it was decorated well and spaced out suitably. Staff were warm and welcoming. The restaurant food was average quality and probably a bit over priced for the quality of food you were presented with. £3.50 for three tablespoons of shredded lettuce, onions and tomato for a house salad side dish was just taking things a little to far. Breakfast was of an acceptable standard and was really only spoilt a little by the slow service and the attitude of some staff where asking them for things was just a bit of an effort for them. Tip when ordering hot breakfast be prepared for a bit of a wait and if you want porridge then your hot breakfast afterwards please tell them in advance as it all comes at once otherwise. As for the porridge. I'm a bit of a porridge coniseur and judge many breakfasts on the quality of their porridge. It can be safely said that this was the most tasteless porridge I've ever had to pay for. Made from just water it was evident that nobody had actually tasted it and they were relying on people using the dried fruit and creme fresh condiments to disguise the bland porridge. Please don't take me wrong. The stay we had was pleasant enough and was restful. Just not up to our usual standards. A little bit more effort and it could be taken up to 5 stars quite easily.

Pleasant waitress but she lacked knowledge of menu and had to keep asking others for information My roast beef was incredibly rare which I usually like but on this occasion, it was so tough and stringy, it was inedible. When asked the inevitable question “was everything ok?” I replied negatively and requested that this be fed back to the chef. On payment I asked manager what the response had been and because I had eaten most of the meal (potatoes and veg) nothing could be taken off the bill! I was told he would keep an eye on it! Suffice to say it was very disappointing. Shame because on previous occasion the food was very good. Limited children’s menu and it was not possible to reduce adult portions apparently

Love staying at family run businesses and the food was exceptional. Fresh, local and tasty abs as Mac ‘n Cheese go it was sensational. Best in a long time and happy to share the review.

Excellent 1 night stay. Clean comfortable room, with a good breakfast. Very good evening meal cooked well and at a reasonable price.

It was a special treat to come to The Cults Hotel for lunch. The table was booked in advance and just as well, the place was busy with diners. We followed all the current precautions, it was all very straight forward. I had the lunchtime special which was roast turkey, it was wonderful and it was quite a helping. It was good the windows were open as it was a warm day. It was a nice relaxed atmosphere and we found the staff very pleasant and helpful.

Cults hotel's Atlantis restaurant has plenty of space and relaxed open decor. Staff are friendly, helpful, and efficient. Food is good - with some excellent specials on a 'market' menu. We booked dinner early as they take orders only to 8.30pm.

Meals was fine, fish a little mushy and a bit over priced.

Nice menu. Good choice of wines. Just wanted a light lunch. Had an excellent pate with oatcakes and chutney followed by a very decadent chocolate tart chantilly cream and a lovely sharp raspberry sorbet. Very efficient staff and well worth a visit. The full menu looked very good.

Visited for first time since March as shielding. Noticed decide has changed from golfing to seafaring(ish). On entry you wait to have your details taken then shown to your table. Staff were very attentive as usual and food as delicious as ever. Got busier as lunch progressed but tables are well spaced. Given me confidence to visit regularly again.
