Firstly I rarely leave reviews, unless something is particularly good or bad. This is for the latter.... We went for a Sunday Carvery with friends. On arrival, the place looked lovely and was clean and we were greeted nicely. The Waiting staff were very nice, but the lady in charge/owner(?) was very scary, felt like a child at school being told off by the head mistress, as she barked for you to not to do this and that. Cold and rude. Not very welcoming at all! The food was underwhelming and served to you like you're at school also. The 3 roast potatoes and 3 roast parsnip pieces were undercooked and I couldn't cut one of them, let alone eat it. It made the knife bend!?! The Yorkshire puddings were soggy, the overcooked carrots were batoned so thinly, with black bits still on them, I'm pretty sure they were frozen carrots. The cauliflower cheese was nice but there was so little if it, that once it had gravy on top, it disappeared after one bite! For dessert I had pavalova, at £8.95. For this price I expected a nice chunk of home cooked, crunchy and chewy, pavlova but got 2 pre packed, individual 'supermarket style' meringues with some whipped cream and fruit. Incredibly underwhelmed by the whole meal. We won't be returning or recommending.

We stayed here as part of our trip to Bath. We arrived late Sunday as diners were finishing lunch and it had that lazy Sunday vibe to it. For our evening meal, we were directed to the Methuen Arms in Corsham, which is about 15 mins away. It didn’t bother us but it might some. The rooms are in a stand alone building some 50m from the main building. Generally very quiet, although there is a train line that runs behind and you can hear them, but whoosh and they are gone. It didn’t bother us. The rooms are on the small side and are very well appointed. For early morning breakfast drinks, we were given milk in a flask. The breakfast is excellent - lots of choice. The staff were attentive and helpful. We recommend it and would go back.

Ordered a bacon cheese hamburger. The burger seemed small for a 6 ounce burger but there was NO bacon or cheese. After a long wait for the food and a guided tour to rejoin I did not get want to send it back so advised the server but ate the mediocre burger as delivered. Good chips. Wife ordered a salad and vegetables but not impressed

Just back from having yet again a lovely meal. I would say that tonight’s meal was probably the best I have had yet. Sea Bream was what my mother in law and I had, absolutely delicious, hubby had the mushroom risotto with chicken and he enjoyed that too. The desserts were so nice, drinks went down nicely too. A big shout out to Janine, so attentive and very good at her job, thank you kindly. Would highly recommend a visit for food if you haven’t done yet.

Having found this pub on a motor home app as a stop over, we called ahead to make sure we could park up for the night. The landlord was incredibly helpful and said yes we could. We had a couple of drinks and some light snacks when we arrived and spent a lovely few hours in the pub garden overlooking the canal. We spent a peaceful night in our motorhomes (our friends came with theirs too). We were made to feel very welcome by the staff and some of the locals. We are totally self sufficient in our motorhomes but the pub said we could use their toilets during opening hours. We would definitely visit again as an overnight stopover and thank you to the landlord for letting us stay in his car park.

Have been here a few times now - food/service great each time. Sunday roast again yesterday, very busy as per, but accommodated the two of us. Had the veggie and pork roasts. Must be the best of all roasts in Glos or Chelt - fab every time. Excellent serving of meat, potatoes and veg including proper cauli cheese. We have just about been to all places in the area for food and this is great for both Sundays and other days. Very broad menu and specials, all home cooked, unlike the chains, exceptional.

Stopped here for the first time and so glad we did. The welcome was warm and friendly. The carvery was amazing hot tasty and great value for money. Lot's of choice from the carvery and vegetables were also cooked very well. I would recommend booking as it was almost full when we got there at 3pm and was still very busy when we left st 5pm .

Once again Carol shows her skills with this homemade Chicken pie.... well I say chicken, also bacon mushroom and leeks with a puff pastry lid... we both ordered it with veg mash and gravy and on a chilly Autumn evening it absolutely hit the comfort food spot ... a great big hug of a plate...
