Absolutely brilliant service came in with my family and we had a friendly warm welcome. We asked the bar staff for help as some of my family have allergies we was treated by the chef at our table who advised us on the menu. The bar staff was amazing as was the chef. We've booked for Sunday lunch can't wait.

As we were exploring Stow, we decided to visit The Talbot, situated in the heart of the market place. Several members of staff- none of whom could be bothered to serve us! Clearly it is a Sports Bar as there are several televisions all showing some sport. There was a fire that was welcoming. The worst part of our visit was that certain customers were not only feeding their dogs off plates but, eventually let their dog lick a food container! We beat a hasty retreat!

Based on the description and photos on Google maps I expected this to be the best pub in Stow for beer. How wrong I was. There were only 2 beers on handpump and they were both undrinkable. The photo showing 8 beers on handpump is clearly out of date, as is the (expired) Cask Marque sign outside. If you want a decent pint in Stow, go to the Porch House or the Stag instead.

Friendly service but don't order tomato mozzarella salad.. The salad came but no mozzarella nor tomato to be found. Strange! For 12 pounds I would expect something else. I should have sent it immediately back to the kitchen. The sourdough bread wasn't sourdough at all either. All the other plates looked consistent and correct. Fried food is what they are good at I suppose.

The quality of the food was okay, nothing you can really complain about, except maybe the amount of chips with the sandwiches. However, there were no options for either vegetarians or vegans. They do have a veggie burger, however, this wasn’t on the menu. Meaning my only option was a cheese and pickle sandwich. They then had the cheek to ask demand we pay the service charge, despite it saying ‘optional’ on the menu. They said we should have asked to have it taken off before, even though we weren’t asked. Why would we give them extra for no food options for the vegetarian in our party? The waitress was lovely, it’s not her fault. But the bar staff were rude. I wouldn’t go back.

We regularly visit SOW to meet friends it takes 1hr 45 mins each way so we look forward to a catch up and lunch . Since the pandemic I realise that menus have less selection because of staff shortages . We were welcomed in a friendly manner and shown to a table for 6 ,so the 4 of us had plenty of space so a good start . A waiter arrived and asked for drinks order ,my friend asked for the drinks list he said there wasn't one and just realed off a list of drinks ,how would you order a bottle of wine .We ordered 4 soft drinks and had no idea of the price of them until later when we paid over £20 . I asked about the specials board ,it was a very hot day the only starter was soup ,no main courses and 2 deserts . We ordered burger, ham egg and chips ,chicken caesar salad and bubble and squeak ,there was only 1 other main meal ,so 5 choices but all easy for a chef I would think .After about 40 minutes wait we still had no food despite only having 3 tables occupied ,1 of which already had their food . The manager did tell us there would be a 5 minute wait after about 30 minutes ,I also asked the drinks waiter . By this time we were hungry and one of our party asked at the bar and was told it was another 15 minutes ,he said to cancel the food . I went to pay for the drinks which averaged over £5 each the manager said she only had a chef ,she had 2 but one was a trainee ,and the food was cooked fresh ,I didn't expect it not to be cooked fresh . The chef through the hatch then started to say anyone want free food very rudely but the meals were not ready to serve for another 15 mins the manager was also rude and sarcastic when challenged on slow poor service . It really isn't the customers problem that the chef and trainee can't cope with their workload with such limited choice and before you order it would be better to inform potential customers of the wait ,so we could then of gone elsewhere . Sadly standards of service in Stow has declined and perhaps you think you have a captive audience so you don't care .

A host of great reviews on here so we may have been unlucky.. A lot of items not available from the menu at the time of visit, but it was lunch time so would have expected better. Main reason for the review was due to the poor value for money and we felt very overpriced menu compared to other nearby establishments as we discovered afterwards. We made no complaints at the time and perhaps we should have given our feedback, but waited over half an hr for a ‘club Sandwich’ and at £14.00 would have expected a bit more than 2 slices of Bread, some chicken, some bacon and a side salad. Extra for chips ( however, to be fare this was not charged due to the long wait) Very expensive for a pub, or for any establishment really. Felt robbed and couldn’t wait to get away from the place. Nice staff but clearly struggling on the day.

We were enjoying a day in Stow-on-the-Wold and wanted some lunch. We were turned away from about half a dozen pubs and restaurants because they were too busy and then tried The Talbot. Although it was also busy, Jay found us some space to have a drink and look at the menu while we waited for a table to become available. He brought us drinks and looked after us notwithstanding the fact that he seemed to be looking after the whole pub by himself - clearing tables, serving food, taking orders and ALL with a smile on his face. The food was home cooked, delicious and reasonably priced. We were made to feel extremely welcome and had a lovely lunch on a wet December day.

We did state on the booking that one person had peanut allergy & therefore would have expected restaurant to communicate they can’t cater for us before we arrived. Instead they turned away my son who was left to feel discriminated against and we had to leave. This restaurant needs to catch up with the rest of the country and ensure they can safely cater for those with allergies or at least communicate this in advance so people don’t waste their time in making a journey.

We had been travelling around the Cotswolds for a few days and I hadn't sampled any beers that I particularly liked. That was until I went to The Talbot. There were several tasty pints on offer, so we decided to stay for lunch. We ordered the sharing seafood platter. It was quite expensive but there was loads of food on the wooden board that it was served on. I would really recommend this dish as it is a hearty meal for 2 and good value for money.

I come to Stow on the Wold a few times a year, and the place where we normally have our lunch was closed for renovations, so we decided the Talbot. Not a very extensive Menu, just your usual Pub fayre. It took some time for the food to come out, probably a sign that it is freshly prepared. The food was good, nothing special, but acceptable and good. The whole experience was perhaps a tad on the expensive side, but I may come back next time.

Friendly pub with good food. Great staff and we had a lovely lunch here. I had Home made fish finger sandwich with tartare sauce. Good kids menu, reasonably priced. Went to go back for early eve meal today but they don’t serve food in the evenings on Sundays. So, we had drinks & went around the corner. Would go back if in Stow. Great location.

We ate here on our last night in Stow and had a very nice meal at a reasonable price .They have offers on drink packages most nights which is a nice feature. We were served by Anita and Shannon who couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant .We even got to meet the chef and owner Shaun after our meal .

Popped in for lunch and drink after a bit of a mooch around Stowe on Saturday 28tn Sept 19. As usual, friendly staff, good choice of beers and wines and absolutely amazing food. Great value for money, you won’t be disappointed. Lovely feel and very cosy pub. I would recommend booking a table as does get busy. One of our favourite places to chill

Popped in for light lunch, just a baguette but goodness what a whopper. Shared with hubby as it was too much for me but everything was so fresh and tasty. Big chunks of chicken and thick slices of bacon with mayo (seperate so you had as little or as much as you liked). Side salad was beautifully fresh, on the whole a great light lunch and reasonably priced too.

We were looking for a late afternoon tea (at 4pm) and The Talbot was the only place open. Had a cream tea, though this was prob I’ll advised being that The Talbot is a pub, not a tearoom. Scone was okay, but had a feeling that the only other couple in the pub where friends of the barmaid so we felt a little like we were intruding on their private conversations.

We called here twice during our visit to Stow. The pub is a large building which has a large bar and seating area. There were at least 5 real ales which were Wadsworth ales. There is a large selection of spirits and good wines. Food is served lunchtime and then during the evening but only until 8pm.

I don’t often write reviews but feel like the talbot needed one tonight! I’ve have visited the Talbot many times and have never had bad food or bad service! I had the steak and it was the best steak I have ever eaten, cooked perfectly to my liking and the blue cheese sauce was a perfect consistency. Last time I visited the only thing that, not so much let it down, but made our visit less welcoming and chilled was that there were a few children running around and were being loud and slightly disrupting who seemed to be a waitress’ children.

We popped in for some lunch, a cheddar ploughman's and whitebait with a garlic baguette. The cheddar was waxy and tasteless (lots of it though!) but the salad leaves and baguette were nice. Whitebait was good but the garlic bread barely tasted of garlic and was a bit soggy, not well toasted as I'd expected. The interior of the place is well in need of some smartening up, especially the dirty worn stair carpet. Overall our visit wasn't memorable for the right reasons.

The steak and ale pie had a fluffy pastry top and was rich and tender. We had a raspberry cheesecake between us. Don't forget there is a 2 hour parking limit of the square so allow time to relax.

Myself, my grandchildren and my children eat here at least every few weeks. The service is fantastic, and the food is always well prepared and served. It has a lovely atmosphere and we love going here. The children enjoy it and you feel very comfortable taking children in. If anyone in management reads these reviews can I please recommend that you put scotch eggs back onto your menu. We always have them as a starter and they are one of the best I have ever tasted. Unfortunately this time we saw it had been removed, also unfortunately there was nothing else any of us could find on the starters so we all ended up having no starter at all. This was a real shame and meant we spent less than we normally would have done with yourselves.

Bibury is such a beautiful place, we had hoped to find a pub that matched its style. This is a great spot for a basic pint and chips. The place itself is tatty and run down but served its purpose as a pit stop, we chose not to eat here.
