The restaurant had a great vibe and tradition with a modern twist decor. There are different areas to sit. A couple of tables looking out the front or a couple viewing the garden along with the central seating section of the restaurant. The drinks selection was very good. The food was excellent. I had the pie. Which was definitely home made and exceptional. My husband had the steak and enjoyed it. The mixed berry crumble and cheese board to finish was the perfect combo to end a really enjoyable meal/experience. Two courses and a bottle of wine £70. The food and atmosphere are well worth the money.

We chose the Brewers arms as we attended a gig at a nearby hall. We knew that food would not be served on a Sunday evening so made preparations for this. On arrival there was live music and a great atmosphere. The beer garden was a nice size and relaxing to sit in ( I recommend a pint of Otter best!) The room was spotless and the bed was comfy. Breakfast was great, vegetarian was catered for as well. Good coffee and friendly service. The village is simply beautiful.

Stepping into this pub, it feels you walked into a scene of League of Gentlemen. The landlady is unwelcoming to everyone apart from locals (those that have at least 2 generations buried in the local cemetery) and her rudeness is well-known locally. It makes no sense to invest ones hard-earned money into a business owned by someone who treats you like sh*t. Have some self-respect and become a patron at a pub who cares for your custom.

Lovely little pub and the food is great! Staff always very friendly apart from one..... My Dad had lovely food and enjoys eating out. Unfortunately in his later years he now some times struggles to get his words out. The landlady was utterly rude, clearly a bully to her staff and made me feel as if I had done something wrong the moment I asked her for a menu. She is well known locally for being a dysfunctional (barely) human being and the locals despise her. Her pub does not deserve your money. Plenty of other great pubs in the area - try anywhere but here. Hopefully she'll move on once the business dries up.

A warm welcome the minute we walked in. Bar area was heaving as it was the Friday before Christmas, but found a table to sit at and have a drink before the restaurant opened, which was very pleasant and had a lovely atmosphere. Restaurant was really tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and well laid out not squashed in. A great selection on the menu. Food was amazing and service was fantastic. No sign of any rude grumpy landlady, everyone was polite, well mannered and really happy in there work even though it was the start of a very busy night for them. Would defiantly return again a hidden gem just off the A303.

I'd rather be served by professional staff who are accurate with your order when it is that busy, rather than expect a flowery welcome. We chose from the pub classics menu. My husband and I along with our family (6 and a baby in total) visited the Brewers Arms in South Petherton yesterday 12th September for Sunday Lunch. When we arrived the attitude of the landlady was appalling and very very rude. If I had not had children with me who were hungry I would have turned round and walked out.My husband asked if we could order some drinks at the bar but was told no it was table service and she then showed us to our table. She then told us that she had a party of 11 to see to before us. After a short while she came for our drinks order. My son had to go and find a high chair as we were not offered one. We ordered our food and must say it was very good. The service from the waiting staff was excellent and could not do enough to help us. I worked in front facing customer service for years and I can honestly say if I or any of my colleagues had treated any of our customers as we were treated we would have been reprimanded by our Manager. Everybody deserves respect which we were clearly not given. Needless to say we will not be visiting there again Have never experienced anything like it. I have not rated the service as the Landlady left a lot to be desired but the waiting staff excellent

She spoke to us like we were idiots. I work in a pub myself and would never speak to a paying customer like she did. We were placed on a table outside and the waitress took our order. Drinks were brought out quickly by the waitress.A table of 4 young lads were placed next to us and asked us if the landlady has spoke to us poorly aswell. They made us feel uncomfortable & an inconvenience, we drank our drinks and left (we were sat down for about 15 mins) The table next to us left after their drink aswell.Such a poor experience from my local, won’t be returning because of the poor customer service and the lack of respect to other human beings

Will not be going again. After having tried to make a takeaway order last Sunday and being told food was not served after 3PM (despite the website saying otherwise) I made an order for collection the following Thursday (today). I arrived at the pub and saw a temporary paper sign to the left stating where takeaways were to be collected. I therefore went through the door to the left into the restaurant. I was immediately confronted by who I assume is the landlady to say that I was not meant to be in this area as it was under renovation and I was told to use the other entrance. I was quite taken aback by the aggressive tone and went to leave only to be met by a handle-less door. I told the landlady that there was no handle and I was told - again unnecessarily aggressively - about that being the reason that this entrance was not to be used and that there was a sign. I apologised but stated that I didn’t think the signage was particularly clear. The door was finally opened from the other side by the landlady who made her displeasure very clear at having to go around and open it from the outside. I was shown a small arrow pointing right, albeit not on the temporary sign itself. I still didn’t think it was as clear as it could have been, and said as much. No apology was given and I was given my food by the much friendlier bar staff. The food was mediocre and certainly not worth the hassle. We’ve had a few takeaways from here before and some visits to the restaurant, but we will certainly not be coming again. I still believe the signage was inadequate but even if it had have been, there is simply no excuse for being rude to paying clientele. Certainly not the way to run a business and we will take our custom elsewhere from now on.

We had visited this pub and had thought the food was very acceptable on previous occasions. However, on booking this venue for a funeral wake finger buffet, we realised that their idea and presentation of suitable food was not up to previous standards. It lacked any colour, was not what was ordered over the telephone and was overpriced. It was in fact very embarrassing, but there was little we could or would do on the day. If anyone should choose to deal with this establishment for such an occasion, they should get a menu in writing, stating exactly what will be supplied and how it will look. There is huge room for improvement, but having corresponded with them over this already, we seriously doubt they will take anything on board.

My husband and I stayed in the accommodation at the pub so sampled the restaurant a few times. The first time we were a little late going in but the staff were still very accommodating and didn’t mind at all. There was a great selection of ales and ciders, as well as the lagers/beers you always find on the pumps at a pub, there was a nice variety of wines on the menu too. I had the rump steak which was cooked to my liking and accompanied by onion rings, chunky chips, flat mushroom, tomatoes on the vine and garnished with pea shoots, it looked amazing, I wish I’d taken pictures! I also had the blue cheese sauce which was a lovely accompaniment. My husband had the home made steak burger, which he said was the best burger he’s ever had! An accolade in itself as that is his go to food on any menu. It came with skinny fries, dressed salad leaves and coleslaw, beautifully presented and all very tasty! I had the cheese board to finish and Andrew had the Sticky Toffee cheesecake (I think) which we really enjoyed. I also had the Sirloin steak and the burger and Andrew had the steak and ale pie and sampled the divine lemon cheesecake over the 5 nights we stayed, all equally delicious and all worth going back for. I have run a few restaurants and I would hang my head in shame if ANY of my front of house staff were as rude let along the Landlord's wife!! shame...food was good...needless to say, I won't be booking any more socials in or telling anyone to go. Maybe you should think about putting someone with a smile and personality for customer service on the front?!

We regularly visit Martock and decided to venture into South Petherton for something to eat.Booked a table at The Brewers Arms and we were not disappointed. My husband and I had the beef salad as a starter and the Italian chicken stuffed with mozzarella and sundried tomatoes and came with plenty of vegetables.Sadly we could not fit a dessert in, hopefully next time! We will definitely come here again on our next return to Somerset. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The food was excellent.

Stopped in South Petherton in desperation this lunch time, not much food to be had on the A303. What a find! Excellent food and hospitality, set in a lovely village just off the main road. We had the amazing celeriac & apple soup followed by excellent ploughman's. We would make a detour to return sometime.

We were lucky enough to find this place. Although only a small village the pub is very busy all the time. They have a very good selection of well kept real ales (hence the CAMRA awards) as well as a large selection of malt whiskies and fine wines. They only have 3 rooms which are all en-suite and decorated to a high standard and which has their own seperate entrance through the courtyard. We only ate in the restaurant 1 night as we had already booked to eat elsewhere on other nights, however, would have liked to have made more use of the restaurant as the food was very good. (Perhaps next time) The breakfast was served in the garden room and was all freshly cooked with local produce and certainly plentiful. Duncan and Ali were helpful and knowledgeable of the local area and we would certainly not only visit again ourselves but also would not hesitate to recommend to others

We booked to see a band in the village and so went to the Brewers Arms before hand to eat. It is the third time we have eaten here and have never been disappointed. The service, food and atmosphere is second to none. There were three of us as we took a friend and we all chose Venison Pate served with a side salad, toast butter and chutney....boy what an explosion of tastes on that plate? It was delicious. My husband and our friend decided on the curry of the day for their main meal. My husband had green Thai Prawn curry served the rice, mango chutney and a huge poppadom. Our friend had the beef curry again with rice, poppadom & mango chutney which they both thoroughly enjoyed. Me on the other hand went for the Belly Pork served on a bed of creamed potatoes & veg with a cider jus....nom nom.....yum yum.....I had to share with the men as I was fed up with them staring and drooling over mine! They have promised to order the same as me in future! Thank you to the staff for the service and a huge thank you to the Chef who certainly went out to impress and he succeeded! Well done...* My advice is to book as this is very busy restaurant and pub.

We have visited the Brewers several times since moving to the area in August this year. Every time I have been delighted with the service, food and general atmosphere! It's rare to find a decent pub in this day that ticks all the right boxes but this place really does.We popped in on the 2nd of January for an impromptu meal and my other half and I both chose Chicken Kiev from the specials board. I can honestly say it rates and one of the best meals I've had in a long time! The chicken was tender and delicious (complete with garlic butter that just oozed as it should) The vegetables were fresh and tasty too. Even the sprouts were fab! We'll be back soon!

We have used the brewers several times but feel now Duncan and his hard working team should get a mention. The pub nestles in a beautiful Somerset village skirted by small shops which make interesting exploring. The pub and restaurant which adjoins it are both first class. The pub itself is friendly and inviting, real ales are first class and there are normally 4 on with a big board behind the bar describing them. Food in the pub is very good and excellent value for money. The restaurant (the bakehouse) is very good a marvellous range of home cooked foods are where possible locally sourced. Duncan the landlord always has something on from quizzes to fancy dress. This pub is the beating heart of a thriving friendly village, and he steers the pub excellently with the aid of his polite and friendly staff. One to visit for a pint, a meal or just a coffee, I know you will made welcome.

Called in for an afternoon drink during a visit to South Petherton. Beer was good but the service and atmosphere were lacking, to be honest we felt like imposters in a locals only bar. Decor could do with a tidy up, I'm not suggesting a makeover, it has its charm, but it could be so much nicer and appealing for the casual visitor.

Called in by chance to see if we could have a meal. The restaurant was fully booked but there were tables in the bar. We had a beautiful rump steak, cooked medium rare as requested, accompanied by chips, peas, grilled tomato, mushroom and onion rings. The meat is from a local supplier and was tender and full flavoured and the chef had grilled it to perfection.I don't think it could be bettered especially for just short of £15.This seems to be a popular place to eat and appears to be a hub of the community.Service was excellent and although we were advised that there would be a 30 minute wait the meal appeared promptly .There were also a number of tasty specials on offer including a pie of the day and curry of the day and some well thought out vegetarian choices.

It was some years since we had the pleasure of dining in this lovely old building so I was somewhat nervous that it would not turn out to be a flop. Well I need not have worried the décor was still moody and seductive with candles on every table. We had booked in advance, originally asking for a table in the conservatory hoping it would be quiet as my other half has hearing problems and loud noises make his ears hurt. On realising the conservatory was full and very noisy the staff could not have been more helpful and found us a very nice quiet table in a corner. The food was varied with some scrumptious fish on the "Specials" board. I had Deep Fried Brie which oozed out of it's shell when I cut into it but the toast and salad soon mopped it up and then trickled down my throat, delightful. My husband had the Bruschetta topped with Parmesan shavings and by the way he soon made short work of it and the grin on his face told me he was satisfied and ready to take on the main course with relish. I plumped for the Mixed Grill, and OMG what a battle I had to try and clear the plate, I did not want to leave a scrap it was all so tasty. Lovely crispy fries and peas to go with it and we shared some Garlic Focaccia Bread too. My husband chose the Aubergine Cannelloni which came with a huge bowl of salad, and I managed to palm off most of my peas onto his plate. By the time his plate was empty he was one very happy bunny. Would have loved to have tried a dessert but there wasn't any room left in our tummies, we were stuffed. Did manage a Cappuccino each to help the food go down, before we dared attempt to go home. Great place to celebrate our 35th. Anniversary, just couldn't fault the food, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We really must go back sooner than later. I hope the locals realise how lucky they are to have such a marvellous venue in the centre of their town. Well worth a visit if you have never been there before, and as for the locals......you know the saying ? Use it or lose it. I am already saving my pennies for a return visit.

We visited to the Brewers Arms last week whilst spending a night in South Petherton. It is in the heart of the village and is clearly a community hub, attracting lots of local people. The menu is typical of pub restaurants. Between us, we had burgers and chilli. The food was home made and was cooked to order - for example, there are several types of burgers and a choice of toppings. The prices were average for a pub meal of this type. The portions were extremely generous. I couldn't finish my burger and we certainly couldn't have contemplated a dessert! It is so popular that you do need to book.
