No idea on the food front but a pub is a pub in layman's terms. Enough said.

Stopped by a while ago for some food. Was good, nothing to complain about. Service was great and in a timely manner. I did sense something was off. Now I know people are divided on the whole "ghost" subject but I have a gift and my gift was tingling as soon as I walked in. Somethings going on here which in my option made the atmosphere perfect. I love it. 😆🙏🏻

Lovely traditional pub. Friendly staff, Landlord and Landlady very welcoming. Great atmosphere at all times. Nice crowd if people. Child and Dog Friendly. Live music, pool table and darts. Skittle alley / function room and the food is homecooked fresh to order. This place has really been turned around in the past 2 years. Well done guys. 👍

Great place to go. Pop in with the wife most weekends and have never had or witnessed any of the issues some have reported. The staff and owner are always polite and accommodating.

Lovely little pub, close to my hotel so I came in for a drink - really reasonably priced.

Pop in Sunday had lovely lunch food was good an staff very friendly. This old pub is a great place not many left like this.

The chap running the place is awful. Horrible attitude. Always drunk. Theres many words I can think of to describe this chap but none suitable for TripAdvisor.

Someone should tell the landlord he is in the HOSPITALITY trade, which should translate as making your customers feel welcome. Been overcharged by rude staff more than once. This week I heard landlord say to a lady querying a price that if she didn't like it to drink somewhere else. Unbelievable.

Popped in for a Sunday roast and I received a friendly welcome . It was delicious and well priced Also served a well kept pint of ale which is always a bonus! Will be back again 😊

This pub has always been one of Chards lively drinking pubs with a rough reputation and not known for any food but recently they got in ‘Serisl Grillerz’ to run the kitchen and the food is incredible! We had 6oz steak burgers and hot wings, they took a little while but were so worth the wait, big, juicy, meaty and dirty!! Lager was fine, good choice and we found it very friendly 😃

Used to be my uncles pub back when I were in me 20s Mick and joy harris Miss then and that place cousin Andy took over but never got to see them and don't know how long they had it See the boys ally gone an open up Looks alot brighter inside Wonder if it still got that creepy portrait in the bedroom

Went out for a quite drink with friends. Landlord, who was drunk, tried to start a problem where there was none. He was not only rude, but physically threatening when questioned about it. Will be contacting the brewery.

Decent sized pub with a welcoming landlord and frequented by friendly locals. Nice and reasonably priced pub grub (Sunday roast highly recommended). Nice open fire that gets lit in the winter. Beer garden with kids play area out back. Car parking available. Very dog friendly, the 'help yourself' policy to the dog treats jar means your good boy or girl will get spoilt by the locals.

Really helpful and kind landlord and landlady, It was Easter Saturday, late and I was hungry. The landlord went off and got me some food and the landlady chatted to keep me company. I really can't complain at all.

This to me is an amazing friendly pub. People in there are so welcoming. Since relocating recently from Suffolk to Chard this has now become our local.

It so unusual to find a traditional friendly locals pub in town. Landlord excellent mine host. Open all day every day including xmas day. Roaring fire in grate and dog friendly. Love this pub.

Staff are rude and you being there seems to be a burden for them. It looks like a lovely old time pub from the outside but don’t be fooled. It’s a drinking ground for the guy and his mates no one else will feel welcome avoid at all cost

Visited on a Saturday late afternoon/early evening. Warm, welcoming, clean, prompt service, good music, happy clientele, good seating, fair prices, massive outdoor area. Oh. And the best crisps in chard!! 🙂 Highly recommended!!!

Staying close by, short drive out, The Choughs looked good. Homely, bright and warm atmosphere. Pleasant staff. Made a return visit. Recommend.

The Chough has seen many changes of management over the past few years, but with the new manager Johnny, he has bought in his experience and knowledge of running pubs. Already the pub look and feels cleaner and better. Johnny is a chef as well and the pub is don’t food! If you haven’t been in for a while, go in and see the difference.

lovely party atmosphere Christmas eve and again Christmas day lunchtime. The new owners have certainly improved the image of this lovely old building by deep cleaning of both the premises and some of the previous clientele. Good work team!

Really badly smells of public toilets in the bar , very unclean , needs younger people with get up and go in them , dont sale any crisps or peanuts which is very important as people enjoy that with a drink . Absolutely horrible will not recommend this place unless something is done about it

Good beer, huge screen for watching sport, plus tv behind the bar, nice friendly atmosphere.

Had a lovely large latte in the courtyard which leads onto the garden which is ideal for children. It was nice to chat with the landlady.

the atmosphere was awkward to say the least it then cost a pound for a game of pool and it seemed quiet for the time of night .. after leaving because of the awkwardness we went to the kings head that was full of people and got served straight away and had a good old knees up with the locals....

This place is so much nicer to be in now the new management have completely redecorated it, it's cleaner, the beer is better and it no longer smells like a dead dog.

Well worth a visit with new owners family run decent pint and top notch food eaten here 3 times good prices .disco Friday and Saturday nights new play area for the kids in the beer garden and during the day the skittle alley is a play area for kids as chard has not got nothing nice for the kids .worth coming to see for yourself .friendly and welcoming

Después de poner dinero para jugar música y esperando 5 minutos para ser servido. No música, ningún reembolso, no existía personal presencia antes de las 10, luego me dijo que cierran persistentemente 10. Distaba mucho de donde estábamos al otro lado de la calle en el baño House Hotel donde saben cómo tratar a sus clientes.

El choughs ha sido tomada y se abrió el viernes pasado ha cambiado mucho y es un lugar mejor para visitar, yo ya he estado varias veces ya que en sólo una semana! Personal amable y nada es demasiado problema. Asador el miércoles fue realmente bueno! No estoy demasiado seguro de lo que hacen otros alimentos como ninguna señal de un menú? En general, sin duda recomendaría visitar!

This pub has just undergone a full renovation apparently. It looks great! The staff are so friendly and create a really good atmosphere.

Realmente no me recomendaron este pub para comer o beber, pero en el momento de escribir veo que tener una renovación, espero por los nuevos propietarios! ! Volveremos tras la reforma, realmente espero que las cosas mejoren, no necesita otro acelgas deteriorado edificio a la creciente lista.

probado este pub en dos noches consecutivas antes de encontrar una comida en un restaurante para una persona de negocios en Chard. ¡Qué experiencia vulgar. El idioma era horrible, los políticos vistas ala derecha, y yo supped rápidamente para mantener alejado de los habitantes de la zona.

Went in for lunch ordered 2 coffees and 2 lunches, the staff were pleasant but by the time the coffee arrived it was tepid.When the meal eventually arrived, (bearing in mind there were only two other customers sitting at the bar,) the chips looked like they were oven chips that had been refried the rest of the meal wasn't much to write home about either, and the toilets were shabby, damp and mouldy.This is unfortunate as it could be a lovely pub, it is very old dating back to 1600s with loads of character even has its share of ghosts, not seen any yet but have read about them. So all in all could be a real gem.

We were looking for somewhere to eat, and found this place.It is a typical English bar, loud people, pool table, and darts on tv. We were served by lovely staff, and the food was great,When we come back to this area, I hope to pay another visit.

Looking at the place objectively it is a nice-looking building in a prime position in town, but it needs a major overhaul. It's a shame because the staff are lovely. I don't normally go to a pub to admire the decor but on this occasion I couldn't help but notice the smell (I am not sure whether this was the building or the punters) and the general poor cleanliness. Ordered two pints but had to stand behind the bar flies to pay and fetch them. Appears that everyone seems to congregate around the bar and won't get out of the way.Decided to play pool and found one of the cues was broken. We had two sips of our beer, which was supposed to be Doom Bar but looked like brown water with soap bubbles on top. We both agreed it tasted like vinegar, we finished our game and left leaving our drinks unfinished.

I thought about not reviewing this at all but perhaps someone at this establishment might read it and take some action.From the outside it looked OK but on going in we noticed the smell, the lack of customers and complete absence of anyone looking like a member of staff. After a cursory search for a menu we left. Come on Choughs Hotel - get a grip!

Went into the bar for drinks, huge place with just a couple of people and a dog in there. The smell was awful in this bar and I wish we had just turned around and left. But we ordered our drinks. The chairs are well past there best and filthy. The smell just got worse. My other half popped to the gents and soon returned...he said the stench was awful on the approach and the worst toilets he had ever see. We drank up really quickly and left.

Food very good value for money. Very acceptable quality - only complaint that mash potato had some lumps in it! Staff very polite and attentive for this sort of dining experience (order and pay for food at the bar). I did find it a bit strange that they don't appear to serve desserts, though.
