Brewers Fayre Old Nelson in Stroud

This is a yearly event, it’s convenient for people coming from all areas. We were very disappointed that with a room full of customers some residents of the adjoining Premiere Inn the bar was closed at 10pm. This hasn’t happened in the past & we weren’t made aware of it at the beginning of the evening. We therefore had to make our way into town to spend our money

Arrived after a very long drive to the premier inn attached and didn’t fancy sitting in a busy restaurant so they let us order off the menu and between the waitress and my husband managed to get the plates to our room which was great. Basic cheese and bacon burger with fries but it was tasty and piping hot. We were first in for breakfast this morning 715am and we chose the continental option and lots of choice and it was all so fresh. Very chatty lovely waitress who looked after us well. Couldn’t fault it Definitley worth £8.99 I think it was and you could go back for more

Staff as always very cheerful and helpful and good food and are helpful with my son who is autistic .created a calm atmosphere

We came on a Sunday, we didn't want carvery and The Nelson ran normal menu. The steak was tender and the chips tasty and it was hot when it came, which was in no time at all. Even though it was super busy the staff were smiling and polite. The toilets were clean and pleasant and the tap that wasn't working had a notice on to tell you so! Definitely come here again. Oh! The pudding, triple chocolate brownie, was tasty too!

This venue never fails to impress from the service to the food to the drinks every time myself and family come here it’s always a pleasure to come in, all the staff are superb, 0 complaints. The young lady that serviced us (believe her name was Mia) has served us on multiple occasions and has always been absolutely lovely, helpful and respectful towards are orders and just her all round service with a smile on her face. Thank you as always.

We booked into the Premier Inn adjoining this restaurant. We had dinner there both nights and food was very good. The service was excellent . We also had breakfast there both morning as part of the hotel package. The Lady on duty was lovely and we had a few laughs. Breakfast was very good and you couldn't have asked for more. Thank you

Another fantastic experience with wonderful food, a great atmosphere and phenomenal staff! The girls that work here never fail to make you feel welcome & comfortable. I’ve visited many times and always get a smile when you walk in & this is something you don’t get in many restaurants. A huge thanks to Mia, Abbie & Aaron for looking after us & teaching my daughter the new activity sheet, she loved it! We will definitely be back!

18/07/2024 - 7pm Excellent service , very polite and helpful . Three course meal was very tasty and each course arrived promptly. We had Prawn cocktail, Sirloin steak ( cooked how we asked ) and knicker bocker glory and Chocolate Brownie for pud. We thought very good value for money. Would certainly go again. 👍

Have been here a few times for the Sunday carvery. Nice guy that serves but they don't offer vegetarian gravy so always have to ask when pay at the bar and wait 20 mins. Today we waited 20+ with going to bar again in between then an empty plate still no gravy arrived. We told a waiter when they took the plates away then a manager I guess it was as had different clothing and things rattling round her neck had the cheek to tell us if we want something they are busy so we should keep going to the bar and asking them and pesturing them. Maybe not a manager as surely at that level you wouldn't think people having a meal want to keep getting up and going to the bar to repeat what they've already asked for!

Great food, friendly staff who even though they were busy with a large party made sure we were looked after. All at a reasonable price nothing to complain about.

Just wanted to say that Clare who was on breakfast duty was so lovely and couldn't do enough whilst serving me this morning and all with a smile on her face. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend to anybody staying in the area. Thank you

have been stopping here with work for over a month, Jodie booked me a bath in room regularly, because i asked for one the first time, great customer service !! I can honestly say since Abby has taken a leading role in the resteraunt, the service is 100% better, maybe an influence in the kitchen too, because the food seems to have improved !! i HOPE THE GIRLS DONT MIND ME MENTIONING THEM !!!!!

I visit here often with my 2 children and my mother. We are always greeted with a smile and warm welcome! We have gotten to know allot of the staff well, especially Nikki & Abbi! They are so lovely and great with my children!

We had another lovely visit to the Old Nelson this evening. Abi and Mia looked after us, our food came quickly and it was hot and delicious. Good quality and good value.

Absolutely rubbish, my partner and my sister ordered fish and chips but got batter and chips ,with enough fish to fill a dessert spoon .. and when we said to the waitress about it all we got was ... oh sorry il tell the chef ....

Booked 4.30pm table for family meal. Whilst the food was great the service was really poor. The girl taking orders on the till was lovely and seemed to be coping well with being the only member of staff behind the bar for at least 30 minutes. We ordered mains, desserts and drinks. The queue of people waiting to place their order became quite long with still one girl taking orders and serving drinks. Tables were filling up but the whole venue was by no means full. Our main meals took some 40 minutes to arrive, had to ask twice for mayo which was eventually brought to the table a good 10 mins after my meal. After we'd finished our mains we then waited another 20 / 25 minutes or so for desserts but they still hadn't arrived and our plates hadn't been cleared so I went to the bar to ask if we could have our desserts. I was told yes, they would be with us. Another 10 minutes passed with no desserts arriving and 3 very fractious children so I went and asked again. Eventually our desserts were brought out, possibly ten minutes after that. We spent 2 hours and 10 minutes in total in the venue, having 2 courses. Our food was lovely, but the service was so slow that I've only felt able to rate our experience as average and we won't be returning again or recommending this venue.

Had a pre Christmas dinner nicely cooked dinner big portions served by friendly staff who went out of there way to make sure everyone was happy a lot of effort went into making the restaurant chrismasy with lights decorations and trees

We went with a group of more vulnerable and older people, the staff were amazing, friendly and very accommodating of our needs, the food was brought out in good time, especially considering there were so many of us eating and they couldn't have been more kind and understanding. Thanks to all the amazing staff who made our meal so enjoyable and, as it was a Christmas meal, they added crackers to the table too which helped the occasion go with a bit of festive cheer.

Great Christmas dinner. Price for 3 courses very reasonable especially as good size portions and great quality food. Service excellence as always.

The Old Nelson never disappoints. The staff are lovely, friendly and helpful. We had the Sunday roast and all the family loves it. We are a family of 3 generations and we all enjoy good food and good service at the Nelson.

Just visited for mid day lunch. Not overly busy. Ordered Xmas lunch turkey etc. quite a wait for food. On arrival had to return parsnips burnt to death! Replacements no better. Meal was only warm! Whole meal was a disaster carrots rigid, sprouts over cooked mushy a real but off. Meal appeared to have been stood around for ages.Offered sweets on house but abandoned after some wait.Will not be visiting again!

Jaz made us feel welcome from the moment we stepped through the door. Great friendly customer service and lovely food.

Excellent once again meal fantastic and staff superb, always helpful, approachable and so customer focused. Special mention to 'The Boss' Hannah, Lauren, Ben and two other members of staff (did not get their name but can you pass our thanks on to them) who served us in the late afternoon.

With Halloween approaching we chance to look at getting a table. The lady that is out of us at the desk was polite and courteous. Informed us that it would be a 15 minute wait so we sat around & weighted True to her word we did not have to wait long The table was clean not sticky I’m ordering food considering it was quite busy. It did arrive in good time. The only negative through no fault of their own, they did not have enough Yorkshire puddings in should you be inclined like myself to like your Sunday roast? That means we did have more hot and plentiful.

Such welcoming staff, food was really good despite being a little disappointed they don’t offer a take away option so couldn’t take home our left over food. Lovely environment we will be back

Attended the Old Nelson on 10/10/2023. Received a very warm welcome from Emma and the staff. Was served by Nicky and ordered a mixed grill. It was absolutely fantastic! Cooked perfectly and hot. Well done all :)

Excellent meal and very reasonable price as its was 2 meal deal. The lasagne was very tasty and just the right size. My friend has a good choice for vegetarians

We visit here quite often as its close to where we live and it's a cheap meal out if we don't want to cook. It's a value chain that offers really good food for what you pay. It's really child friendly and the staff are fabulous- we never have poor service and everyone is happy to have a little chat- something you don't get very oftern now.

This is a favourite get together haunt, caters for pretty much anyone and the prices are reasonable, it all depends what you're looking for but we always enjoy a lunchtime get together now and again.......plenty of space both in and outside, staff are always helpful if you have any queries. There are also rooms available if required, rates seem reasonable and you have Stratford park across the road to walk through after

Went to The Old Nelson for a breakfast for myself and the children and also friends that also have children, I wasnt sure what to expect. It was Brilliant we were greeted by the lovely Clare who was so welcoming, showed us round the all you can eat buffet and then to our seats, we were very well looked after by Clare and could want for nothing! Brilliant t food and the children ate free which is fantastic, me and the kids were full for the day for only 9.99 can't beat that! Thank you Old Nelson very happy 😊.

Very Family Friendly with menu to suit all. Staff were extremely helpful, the food was tasty and came out at the same time no-one was left waiting.

We booked The Old Nelson for a 90th birthday party and can't fault the service we received. Not been for years as it used to have a really poor reputation for food. Turned up with a walking party for the afternoon deal and was impressed; took a while to get a party of 6 seated but we should have booked. Great value and good service. Visited again late afternoon and we got seated immediately. Excellent fish and chips, perfect batter. This may be a regular occasion! 2 meals for £10 and free refils of diet coke, whats not to like

Not happy with this; instead of the meatless plant based roast I was given a pie. Didn't pay £50 a head for a pie at Christmas ,couldn't eat it because it was pastry...wasn't expecting pastry at Christmas.
