Lovely location. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Fantastic food. We had chicken wings and whitebait starters which were delicious, lasagne and chips and beef pie and chips. Had a lovely bank holiday afternoon at the pilot. Malbec and Merlot tasty. The whitebait and the chicken wings starters impressed, being hot and tasty but the main courses were especially good. Easy to walk, drive or cycle to. It's nice and peaceful. Dogs welcome. It's nice to sit and watch the barges going up and down the river. Just relaxing place. Stopped by The Pilot on a lovely sunny day and had a really enjoyable meal out in the garden overlooking the canal. I went for the classic fish and chips, which were spot on—crispy batter and flaky fish. I added a side of onion rings that were golden and crunchy. Washed it all down with a refreshing Birra Moretti shandy, perfect for the weather. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the staff were friendly. Definitely a great spot for a laid-back meal in the sunshine. Would happily come back again!

The 'been fried many times' chips were bad enough but the real travesty was the Hunters Chicken - not a chicken breast at all - just chunks of pre-cooked chicken, topped with a pile of bacon bits & cheese and then clearly microwaved to death! Fish & chips was equally as disappointing - very greasy, more batter than fish - teenager came home still hungry!

Enjoyed a pleasant winter's day walk from the outskirts of Gloucester to The Pilot Inn along the canal. Decided to stop for a drink. Greeted with a friendly welcome and a bowl of water for our dog. Dog friendly for well-behaved dogs. Quiet when we popped in but it was a weekday lunchtime. Very clean and tidy. Good choice of beers and service to match. Plus the canal bridge was open. Can't believe someone rated The Pilot Inn based on the canal bridge being closed. Totally wrong and why even bother, that's not what Google reviews are for. Eeejit. A nice pub to pop into if you're enjoying a walk on the canal or to stop for a bite to eat although we didn't on this occasion, hence the rating of four stars. Level 10 Google reviewer with over 1,200 reviews with 2 million views plus 14,000 photos with around 60 million views and still going strong 💪. Check out my other reviews 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟.

Staff were friendly. Others in the group ordered steak but did not seem best pleased. The steak was a bit fatty and I was disappointed by the tinned mushrooms. Wanted a change in the venue. I haven't been to The Pilot since I was 21 & pregnant with my son. ( he's now 31, lol) Went with hubby & stepson on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't busy, but I waited ages for food. Lots of staff but not very attentive. They chose burgers, I went for chicken wings & chips. My fries were oily and looked double fried, compared to the fries with the burgers. The boys loved their meals. Son polished off my fries & complained greasy. My chicken fell off the bone, which was nice, but the bbq sauce was just squirted over from the bottle. I personally thought I could have done far better at home. I don't eat much nowadays ( gastric sleeve) as I hadn't eaten much. I went for a pudding. Satisfy my severe sweet tooth. They had in menu bread & butter. I had to ask if this was a bread & butter pudding. Yaay, it was. The older waitress, such a lovely attentive waitress, took my order & sons brownie. OMG, this was the BEST I had ever eaten. I took half if it back home with me in takeaway container. Son loved his brownie, too. Overall average food. Pub itself has been kept up well. Car pk has pot holes. See you in another 30 years. Maybe if I'm still alive 🤣

What a fantastic place to eat. We were a group of 4 adults, 1 child. We all ordered food and what an enjoyable plate of food it was, I had the fish pie with veg, very tasty plate of food and well presented. 2 others had Gammon and chips and both said what a big plate of food it was, another had Lasagne and said that it wasn't one that was bought in, it was made in the kitchen and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Then chicken nuggets and chips and needless to say another empty plate. The chef came out to individual tables to ask if the food was OK. This was a nice touch. The staff were very helpful and professional, and pleasant. They have a huge garden that over looks the Gloucester to sharpness canal, which in the summer I would imagine adds to the pleasure of open air dining. The pub was very well laid out, lots of different places to sit and eat, or drink with a nice ambience. Will I return, without doubt, I will definitely be back and probably more than once. Add the Pilot Inn to your places to visit. You will definitely not be disappointed.

No comments on the breakfast which was good but is part if the hotel rating. As for the restaurant concerned… As a hotel guest I ordered bread and oil from the menu. What we got was ordinary brown bread with sunflower oil mixed with some balsamic vinegar. Disgusting and unacceptable! Also as a hotel guest not opting to put this on the room not pleased with the exorbitant 12,5% gratuity fee.

Popped in for a light bite on bank holiday Monday. Straight away served with a smile and even though the main pub was full, there was plenty of space in the function room area where we sat and had a chilli chicken open ciabatta and flatbreads with hummus. Both dishes were really well presented and delicious. Would be keen to come back to try more of their offering!!
