Amazing staff and great atmosphere. The staff are very attentive and will do anything for you. The food is nice and fresh, very tasty. The Pilot is also kid and pet friendly, the staff are all fantastic with both. Great selection of drinks. No complaints at all. We will definitely be back!

The 'been fried many times' chips were bad enough but the real travesty was the Hunters Chicken - not a chicken breast at all - just chunks of pre-cooked chicken, topped with a pile of bacon bits & cheese and then clearly microwaved to death! Fish & chips was equally as disappointing - very greasy, more batter than fish - teenager came home still hungry!

Lovely pub right on the canal, beautiful spot to have a meal or a catch-up, or to just watch the world go by. The owners were very helpful and pleasant, and the bar was amply stocked. The food was excellent, and the restaurant area was clean and tidy. We will definitely be back in the summer for a lovely walk along the canal and then a meal and refreshments at The Pilot Inn

Enjoyed a pleasant winter's day walk from the outskirts of Gloucester to The Pilot Inn along the canal. Decided to stop for a drink. Greeted with a friendly welcome and a bowl of water for our dog. Dog friendly for well-behaved dogs. Quiet when we popped in but it was a weekday lunchtime. Very clean and tidy. Good choice of beers and service to match. Plus the canal bridge was open. Can't believe someone rated The Pilot Inn based on the canal bridge being closed. Totally wrong and why even bother, that's not what Google reviews are for. Eeejit. A nice pub to pop into if you're enjoying a walk on the canal or to stop for a bite to eat although we didn't on this occasion, hence the rating of four stars. Level 10 Google reviewer with over 1,200 reviews with 2 million views plus 14,000 photos with around 60 million views and still going strong 💪. Check out my other reviews 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟.

We sadly had to arrange a wake over Christmas so it was hard to find a venue and the Pilot Inn were one of the few to reply to our enquiry. How lucky for us they did. Communication was great, the buffet was excellent with plenty of choice, the pub has a lovely atmosphere and we had a spacious, comfortable area for our specific use. Staff were helpful but not intrusive in any way and everything was straight forward and easy. We couldn't have asked for more.

Lovely pub next to a canal, large car park. Manager was chatty and friendly, bar staff were cheerful and accommodating. Plenty of space inside and out (gazebo/garden). Steak and ale pie was clearly homemade, tasty and filling (with veg and gravy) though was a lot more pie than steak. Thanks to Park4Night for recommending this place, and thanks to the staff for a warm welcome and the overnight stay in the car park.

Very bad. When we entered the very nice bar staff when we asked for menus said that the kitchen would close in 40 minutes which was fine but when we came to order 15 minutes later they said the chef had decided to close the kitchen as it was very hot and had switched everything off. Very disappointed as I had brought a friend for her birthday and had been saying how nice this pub was

Came here for a birthday meal for my partner and with another couple. Did not book but managed to find a table for 4 easily In the resturant area on a friday evening. I enjoyed my food. I had a lasagna and it was lovely. We did end up ordering at the bar but others in the resturant had their orders taken so I am not sure if we were just unaware of their being table service but it was hard to know if you were getting table service or if you did have to order at the bar. Staff were friendly. Others in the group ordered steak but did not seem best pleased. The steak was a bit fatty and I was disappointed by the tinned mushrooms. The table cloths were ripped and cellotaped together. It does seem to have gone down hill

Wanted a change in the venue. I haven't been to The Pilot since I was 21 & pregnant with my son. ( he's now 31, lol) Went with hubby & stepson on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't busy, but I waited ages for food. Lots of staff but not very attentive. They chose burgers, I went for chicken wings & chips. My fries were oily and looked double fried, compared to the fries with the burgers. The boys loved their meals. Son polished off my fries & complained greasy. My chicken fell off the bone, which was nice, but the bbq sauce was just squirted over from the bottle. I personally thought I could have done far better at home. I don't eat much nowadays ( gastric sleeve) as I hadn't eaten much. I went for a pudding. Satisfy my severe sweet tooth. They had in menu bread & butter. I had to ask if this was a bread & butter pudding. Yaay, it was. The older waitress, such a lovely attentive waitress, took my order & sons brownie. OMG, this was the BEST I had ever eaten. I took half if it back home with me in takeaway container. Son loved his brownie, too. Overall average food. Pub itself has been kept up well. Car pk has pot holes. See you in another 30 years. Maybe if I'm still alive 🤣

No disabled parking, no clear signage for alternative route to entry. Not only did we struggle but there were countless people with sticks and young children struggling with big steps and an inadequate handrail. When you are fit and able none of this matters but when you need it, you need it. Clearly this pub wants to exclude every day folk by making their pub inaccessible. Very disappointed. Can't comment on food as when we did get in the pub, eventually , they refused to serve due to a big food order! Do what!?!

We had booked, but were earlier than we thought, the staff accommodated us earlier. Plenty of food choices, all three dishes were lovely, large portions and reasonably priced. We were all full and couldn’t manage pudding. Will definitely visit again when we next go up to see our daughter, it’s walking distance from her home. A very good location adjacent to the Sharpness to Gloucester canal which is a lovely walk in both directions. We booked a lunch time table for four at 1pm and the Manager readily agreed to our request to park early to have a pre lunch walk along the Canal. ( Much appreciated) The food was very good with the emphasis on home cooking and local content. My steak and kidney pie reflected this a was extremely good. The others were very complimentary about their chosen dishes, which are all sensibly priced. The interior is very pleasant and the conservatory views over the Canal and Canal Bridge is restful. Lastly can I mention the Staff. Really pleasant and helpful and obviously enjoy their jobs.

What a fantastic place to eat. We were a group of 4 adults, 1 child. We all ordered food and what an enjoyable plate of food it was, I had the fish pie with veg, very tasty plate of food and well presented. 2 others had Gammon and chips and both said what a big plate of food it was, another had Lasagne and said that it wasn't one that was bought in, it was made in the kitchen and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Then chicken nuggets and chips and needless to say another empty plate. The chef came out to individual tables to ask if the food was OK. This was a nice touch. The staff were very helpful and professional, and pleasant. They have a huge garden that over looks the Gloucester to sharpness canal, which in the summer I would imagine adds to the pleasure of open air dining. The pub was very well laid out, lots of different places to sit and eat, or drink with a nice ambience. Will I return, without doubt, I will definitely be back and probably more than once. Add the Pilot Inn to your places to visit. You will definitely not be disappointed.

The staff were extremely hostile and racist. Their behaviour was rude not just to me but I also witnessed towards another poor young couple. When she produced her student ID, they still refused her an alcohol drink. Then worse, her partner was also refused an alcoholic drink after producing his ID and was told that he wasn’t allowed to have alcohol just in case he gave to his partner. We were horrified. This is just a local pub!! We left swiftly.

Even after a lick of paint it still seems distinctly average. Before I moan in the following paragraph, I should say that we did have a very generous portion of meat with our Sunday roast which was a plus. However… Myself and another member of our party ordered the roast beef, we had 2, yep 2 roast potatoes each. They’d been cooked to within an inch of their lives, almost inedible, when questioned on the quantity we were told if we wanted more potatoes we’d have to order a side portion, which we did and you guessed a nice bowl of black grenades come out….Probably didn’t help that the chef keep walk around the tables obviously looking for plaudits from the customers however I left you feeling they if he spent more time sorting the kitchen out rather than glory hunkering the end product maybe a few notches higher…

Family local pub with good choice of beers cider and wine. But sadly they do not cater for food allergies or various dietary requirements. I have not eaten at the pub since they served us both a vegetarian curry that was awful. However later tried again with a savoury tart pre covid that was disgusting just a very basic pastry base with a lump of melted cheese in it and they refused to give me money back. Sadly landlady has decided to be even more rude in her reply and probably would benefit from basic politeness towards ppl with allergies who cannot consume any drinks available from the bar. Very sad to see she feels this way towards ppl who cannot help having an illness and didn't receive glass of tap water. Just really sad. Some ppl just really hate vegans. But quite shocked at her reply. Being our local for many years I did mention it would've been nicer to thank us for our custom over the years. It must've been quite harsh to attack me for being honest and making me feel so guilty after she's well aware we had a family grievance recently. Customer retention and ways to help achieve a happier customer experience maybe more happier ways to resolve for both parties concerned.

We arrived just before the time our table was booked for only to find the place in darkness. It was closed. When I rang the number the call was immediately cut off. We had to go to sainsbury's for a curry. Not impressed and so disappointed. If this place ever opens again, avoid it.
