Tara Restaurant in Stroud

We enjoyed our Anniversary stay and meal at Hatton Court Hotel. All staff were polite, friendly and very efficient ensuring we had an enjoyable evening. The surroundings, atmosphere and ambiance were very pleasant. The menu had an excellent selection of food and wines to choose from, I enjoyed the crispy salt & pepper squid but in my opinion, after being served my ‘Bouillabaisse’ (fish stew!) I was underwhelmed, the lobster bisque was lacking flavour and missing the mussels (I didn’t initially realise there were none) the Sea Bass was very nice, but I did put in a late order of fries which arrived in no time at all. On the other hand my wife really enjoyed the Arancini, followed by Braised pulled beef feather blade. The bottle of Italian wine was very nice and paired well with the fish. We would not hesitate to eat here again, but my choice of mains would certainly be different.

We stayed at Hatton Court on a two night bed and breakfast deal with dinner on the first night , this was £169 . A very good deal but it was early in the year . We decided to eat in the restaurant on the second night and a two course meal with a bottle of wine was £120 . The restaurant and food was ok but £120 was ridiculous . We have stayed many times at Hatton Court but we will definitely not use the restaurant again …. £28 for the cheapest bottle of wine is more like London prices than Gloucester. Love the Hotel but the restaurant is so over priced it spoilt our stay .

I do hope the GM AND OWNERS read this we book a table for 2 in the Restaurant on arrival told we had to have a Christmas roast lunch in the bar area where not told why until after our lunch when we where leaving the RESTAURANT WAS CLOSED DUE TO NOT MANY BOOKINGS AND TOOEXPENSIVE TO OPEN DUE TO HEATING shocking way to treat guests if they had called to say restaurant was not open but you can have your lunch in the bat we would not of gone food was average Aunt Bessy Yorkshire pudding a stuffed turkey thigh no sliced carved turkey the best part of the lunch was as I think duck parffit which looked bought in my biggest thing was a table behind us eating crisps and coffee and a small family with a dog I get dogs allowed in bar we really did not want to have a roast lunch in the bar service ok all in all not the Christmas lunch I would like to repeat I think downhill is where this restaurant in a beautiful hotel is going

I visited with my mother for an afternoon tea as I had a voucher and this is one of the few places that still accepts them in the area. The restaurant is lovely, full of flowers, modern decor and has great views. From the moment we entered the door the service was excellent and we were served a piping hot teapot almost as soon as we were seated. We both had a selection of precision cut sandwiches, two scones (jam and clotted cream obviously) and four small cakes. All were very tasty. If I were really picky I would have preferred the scones warmed, but it was no hardship without! It was a simple lovely afternoon and I would highly recommend this venue if you want somewhere special for afternoon tea. Thank you Hatton Court.

We stayed at the hotel and ate here on the first night. I had soup, which lacked flavor. I then had the butternut, chickpea, and kale curry. It wasn't great and I only had a few spoonfuls. My husband had fish and chips and he did say it was ok. Fabulous place to stay but we just won't eat here again.

Food overpriced and underportioned. Regrettably came away hungry despite a two course meal, which is unusual. Unclear if intentional, but I attach a photo of the oil that remained once a duck breast had been eaten

I regularly stay at the Hatton Court Hotel but have stopped eating in the restaurant. I would recommend the hotel but it would take a lot for me to eat there again. Over several stays : One evening I had a butternut squash soup which was the worst I had ever tasted - it was watery and had far too much chilli in it. A steak was tough. The avocado on toast for breakfast hardly had any avocado. The only thing I have really enjoyed was a cheese soufflé's starter. I have no complaints about the staff.

Breakfast was delicious and had a wealth of choices in addition to the buffet, but dinner the night before did give me a bit of a stomach upset. The butternut squash curry seemed to be the soup of the day (Also butternut squash soup) as it had soggy croutons in it alongside the chickpeas. That said my husband's steak was good and the service was pretty good as well. The ambiance of the dining room was great as well. The menu is rather pricey.

Special birthday meal for my wife (& 10 family members) The meal and service were both fine When I booked & at the time of payment no mention was made of a 10% gratuity automatically added to the bill. As a result I left a tip in cash on the table. It was only when I looked closely at the bill some days later that I saw the automatically added gratuity. Had I known up front it might have been fine but to find out after the event is another matter. I can only say I am not impressed & will think very seriously whether I return

Post COVID/Brexit, whatever else is to blame this place does have some inconsistencies with its serving staff, especially in the morning for breakfast, but for an evening meal they do bring out their A game. Went heavily with the fish this meal. Assiette of salmon, Market fish of the day - Sea Bream and skipped the toffee pudding and had the Fish Board for desert.

Have not been here in a long time had the roast Sunday lunch all in all very tasty and plenty of vegetable service was good

Food is definitely not the standard I expected of a 4 star establishment. I ordered eggs benedict for breakfast and it was appalling, served on an untoasted stale muffin topped with bacon instead of ham and with cold hollandaise sauce over the top.

Fresh and well cooked, nicely presented with a good wine list. There are many options of extras all at an expected price for the venue. The restaurant has excellent views across the vale and would recommend book a window table. Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant however there is a very nice terrace of a table can be organised in the bar if you wish to eat with your dog

The food was of good quality and presentation and the service was efficient. The menu is not too extensive and for the majority of the dishes, the prices are ok. Beautiful views.

We had an evening meal which was lovely, staff are attentive and polite. Breakfast was ok, food was lukewarm. Needs some tlc

Lovely restaurant with fabulous views and friendly efficient staff. Had a good breakfast, freshly cooked to order and an excellent selection of continental choice too.

This was a family birthday with elderly and young guests - the venue is stunning and the staff are excellent - the food was absolutely awful! Poor menu choice - everything out of a packet and really poor - tasted “old”. Mussels were dangerous welded to their shells - beef burger served with a lettuce leaf - kids melon starter smothered in balsamic sauce!! Spoiled the event! Very disappointing!

Wonderful hotel with delightful staff... very cosy and accommodating. The first night here we had our meal in the Tara Restaurant cannot be faulted, very professional and attentive. We shall be back

Watched this hotel on four in a bed, amazing place! Also read in numerous true crime book's too. This hotel was an annexe of 25 Cromwell Street and a place where Rosemary West used to take her clients. Apparently three of her kids conceived here when it was " The Tara Hotel" 🙈🙈😂😂

We dined at The Tara Restaurant twice and on both occasions the food was perfectly cooked and well presented, with the friendly staff adding to the enjoyable dining experiences. Recommended.

Service Staff were attentive and food and breakfast was excellent.

Had a meal at the Tara with my Husband and Mother and it was lovely. The food and the service was great, they had it all set out for social distancing and when they bought the meal and drinks out, they set it on a small table by you and you would get it and take it to your table. Would definitely go back for a meal again

As we visited after lockdown, we were expecting a very limited menu but were both pleasantly surprised by the good choice of 3 courses on offer. Wine list reasonable and the food on both nights we ate here was excellent. Breakfast was also good.

Ate here whilst staying at the hotel, on a Monday evening during the ‘eat out to help out scheme’ so it was busy, however staff and service was prompt, food was frankly outstanding I had the lamb Tagine and my husband the steak and ale pie, both were truly scrummy. Service was friendly and accommodating. Our only negative comment would be where we were seated, which was next to the loos and the area where they store stuff and prepare tables, this was quite unsightly and a mess and could easily be removed from customer sight with a curtain or screen. They dealt with the covid situation incredibly well, by placing drinks and food on a central table, asking customers to pick up their own plates from a tray and return there also-worked well, we would highly recommend the restaurant and would use again if staying nearby again.

Nuestra primera noche desde el cierre y qué hermosa fue. Vistas absolutamente hermosas desde este encantador restaurante. El personal amable y profesional en estos tiempos extraños, se sintió completamente seguro con las estaciones de distanciamiento social y desinfección alrededor del restaurante. We used to visit Hatton Court hotel regularly several years ago. Returning to the area, we were happy for an opportunity to visit again for lunch. The management has changed, as has the layout of the hotel. Tara restaurant is in a long room at the rear of the building. The menu was limited but varied and covered most tastes. The waitress, who seemed to be working alone, was friendly and very efficient: certainly an asset to the establishment. The standard of cooking was high: the food flavoursome and well presented. The combination of good service and food, which should have made a very enjoyable meal, was let down badly by the decor and ambiance of the restaurant. The area felt dingy, cold and unloved. If the management can address the decoration and furnishing, the waitress and chef could give them a very lively restaurant

El restaurante Tara es parte del hotel de la corte de Hatton. Es un maravilloso restaurante muy relajante con un personal atento y feliz.Tuve una cena encantadora comenzando con un delicioso soufflé de queso doble al horno seguido de la panceta de cerdo.Ambos platos donde muy sabroso y bien presentado.

We both had three courses and while they were well presented mine was overcooked and the desserts especially were miniscule. Sorry chef but you could do better.

Visité para almorzar hoy y tuve una comida fabulosa. Me encantó la ubicación y la camarera fue amable y eficiente. La comida estaba muy bien presentada, perfectamente preparada y absolutamente deliciosa. Disfruté especialmente el filete de salmón, el risotto de limón y eneldo y el hinojo estofado de vino blanco. El tamaño de las porciones era perfecto para una comida de tres platos. Recomiendo encarecidamente este restaurante y volveremos pronto!

Our room was lovely . Bathroom clean and nice . Evening meal was very good , initially we where disappointed that the online menu was only an indication of the menu available especially as on line they showed 2 white fish dishes but in reality they only had Salmon. However one of us went Chicken and the other Burger . Both meals where excellent and nothing to fault. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent and the Omelettes divine . Would happily recommend . We had an excellent stay and it made my birthday break a very nice one.

Como me había alojado en el hotel en el pasado y había ido a comer el año pasado, lo cual disfruté muchísimo, esperaba el mismo menú de buena calidad. Como habíamos reservado en el Hatton Court Hotel para un descanso de dos noches y como el hotel está un poco aislado, decidimos reservar cenas para las dos noches en su restaurante Tara. Las primeras impresiones del comedor fueron las de un área de comedor del hotel que está razonablemente situada y que, a pesar de sus objetivos más elevados, es lo que es.El menú es un típico tipo de restaurante de pub con las ofertas del menú, tales como hamburguesas, pescado y papas fritas con un mínimo de dispersión de platos más atractivos.Al estar sentados, la falta de capacitación del personal era muy notable, con cosas como cubiertos colocados incorrectamente sobre la mesa y el joven camarero respondiendo "sin problemas" después de recibir el agradecimiento por traer el vino. En cuanto a la comida en sí, los entrantes bastante fáciles eran razonables, pero las verduras del plato principal estaban poco cocinadas casi en estado crudo y, en el mejor de los casos, la comida estaba tibia, lo que nos dejaba con una factura de casi 80 para una comida bastante mediocre.Como restaurante de hotel es pobre, con sus objetivos de ofrecerse como un restaurante independiente está muy lejos de la marca.Si me quedara en el Hatton Court nuevamente, definitivamente valdría la pena el taxi para encontrar un restaurante diferente.

Al hospedarme en el hotel, reservé una mesa en el restaurante. Al llegar a la hora asignada, no había ninguna mesa en la parte principal del restaurante, así que tuve que sentarme en la pequeña y estrecha entrada del restaurante, lo que me hizo sentir un poco incómodo.

Our W I Christmas lunch was anything but festive. No decorations in the room, no smiles from the staff, at best, the food tasted 'institutional' and bland. Worst of all was the watery, overcooked sprouts and solid and grainy lumps in the chocolate mousse.

Beautiful, well prepared quality food. Excellent service, nothing too much trouble. Would definitely revisit for a special occasion.

We ate in the restaurant 2 nights running whilst staying at the hotel, we had a package deal so food was included. The first night we had 3 courses all were delicious, and then just main and starter on the 2nd night, can't fault the food or the service all staff were pleasant and helpful and food cooked fresh to order.

Not worth the money not a good menu. Pancakes at breakfast was like eating flour, so dry! Awful supposed to have had maple syrup, but I couldn’t see it!

Plenty of menu choice, tasty and beautifully presented, the breakfast is a must if you are staying overnight in the hotel

I had booked for a dozen people gathering from different parts of England and Wales. Some were late because of motorway incidents but the staff were unflappably courteous and managed our large party with efficient care. Good food. Excellent value.

Reasonable choice on the menu. Steaks, belly pork, fish etc. Nice tomato soup with good quality bed and two different butters. Restaurant was busy and service a little slow BUT we were not in any hurry and enjoyed our Argentinian Malbec.

Had high expectations of this restaurant but found it disorganised slow to service and ended up vomiting within minutes after eating in there, definitely wouldn't go there again

The food here was exceptional and compliments to the chef's on both nights, however the service could have been slightly more attentive.

Don't go. Cold restaurant, took nearly an hour to cook a piece of fish which was barely cooked, and the whole meal was bland

This hotel is part of Hatton Court Hotel . The food is excellent and good value for money. Booking is essential for evenine meal but us easily done a reception. Usually a good choice of times available. Staff are friendly and helpful and if necessary can offer an alternative if there is someting you would prefer to make up your meal.

Mi esposa y yo reservamos un paquete tarde noche aviso en el Hatton Court Hotel. Cena en el Restaurante Tara estaba incluido en el precio del paquete que compramos. Ambos hemos viajado mucho y comer en restaurantes tanto en el REINO UNIDO y en el extranjero.

Esta fue una elección perfecta para un regalo especial. Un ambiente elegante, servicio atento en un sábado por la noche y un menú interesante. La comida era deliciosa, bien servido y complementada por un ambiente agradable. Me sorprendió cuando llegó la factura que no era mucho más de lo que era. Agua con gas y sin gas de cortesía y diversos tipos de pan era un toque muy agradable.

El servicio era bueno. Elección en el menú inaceptablemente pobre para vegetarianos. Un marisco gratis pasta con marisco que estaba justo de pasta y tomate. Tamaño de la porción pequeña - casi 9 libras por tres vieiras diminuta que no es una buena relación calidad-precio sea su ubicación. Aunque la comida que teníamos era sabrosa. Desayuno por la mañana siguiente servido por camareras encantadoras. Buena opción continental. Buena calidad de salchichas y huevos.

Esperamos que esta comida, que fue una de nosotros gracias a los amigos para celebrar nuestra estancia en la zona. La recepción no establecen el tono de la noche nadie los huéspedes la bienvenida a la llegada, no había ocultación de abrigo, etc. La camarera inicialmente cuidarnos era displicente y poco profesional y agua y pan falló para llegar incluso después de un número de peticiones que nos pareció vergonzoso discreto siendo los anfitriones. Una vez que llegó la comida estaba bien, pero nada especial para el precio, sin embargo nuestro servicio mejorado con la transición de nuestra mesa para lo que parecía ser el jefe. Para un hotel de lujo a precios uno espera la mejor comida y servicio de calidad.

Sin duda uno de los mejores cenas que hemos comido en mucho tiempo. El servicio era rápido y eficiente, y todo el personal era agradable.

Staying 2 nights so ate in Tara first night - I enjoyed chicken and my husband chose the '3 pies' ...Both alright - mine cooked well ...waiter amusing - did recommend ..Initially we sat in the bar to have a drink but noone arrived to serve us and we went back to reception to find someone ...I could tell you of our none welcome when checking in - the loud non discretionary questions barked as others listened and how that made us feel - lack of instruction as to whereabouts of room Room compact - clean - only a double bed disappointingly ...but nicely furnished We won't be back though - no warmth or comfort in the manner of staff or the places to sit - like the bar - no lounge to speak of just the bar Really needs new chairs and decor in restaurant - all worn uncomfortable - place needs refurb generally

We had two breakfasts and one evening meal in the restaurant. All were excellent. The evening waiters were very friendly and helpful - couldn't fault them. Not quite the same high standard at breakfast, but still perfectly acceptable.

Food is very good, well cooked and presented. The menu provides a varied selection to cater for all tastes. Staff are pleasant and friendly but the service could be improved.We were not greeted on arrival and had to wait around for someone to show us to a table. The room itself needs some refurbishment, especially the chairs, very heavy and low.On the plus side the food was served piping hot on warmed plates.

I had the beef on the first night and fish on the second night. Was really impressed. Service timely. Setting pleasant - old fashioned.

My wife and I decided to visit the Hatton Court Hotel for lunch as the Tara Brasserie... quote... "is the ideal destination for leisurely lunches, intimate dinners and special celebrations..."When we arrived at the Hotel we were welcomed by two receptions on the front desk, who then pointed the way to the Brasserie... arriving at the Brasserie we found it empty of customers and staff but was able to get the attention of the Chef in the kitchen, who then asked another member of staff to take care of us... although we had booked we shown to a table in the Restaurant.The location of which was in the centre of the room with no view, so we asked if we could have a window seat to enjoy the fantastic views that were on offer but we were told that all the windows tables were booked for Afternoon Teas (Time now was 12:45)... OK we hadn't booked so we were offered another table (#18) with a marginally better view.During the course of meal two of the window tables got occupied and remained like this until we left.... all the other window tables with the fantastic views left still unoccupied!We were asked for our drinks order.... as my wife was drinking wine we asked for the wine list... my wife ordered a glass of Canyon Road Zinfandel Rose @ £6.50 p/175ml and myself a J2O @ £3.00 p/275 ml in a pint glass topped up with lemonade @ £2.50!The waitress then left but had not left any menus for us to look at...when she returned she served the drinks and then gave a us a "Lunch Menu"...which had very limited choice but good value (£12 for 2 courses) having visited the hotel website earlier, I knew that there was a Brasserie Menu with much more choice... I asked if we could see this menu but was told the Brasserie only opened during the evenings... contrary to what it states on the hotel website!For starters we ordered a Salmon & Cod Fishcake and a French Onion Soup... both were served hot... the fishcake (yes one) was small... nevertheless quite tasty.For our mains my wife had Chicken and myself Beer Battered Cod & Chips, both served hot and presented nicely, both tasty.Apparently the receipt stated that we were served by "Tom"... but as we were served by a very attractive and pleasant lady, I am not sure if this was either her nickname or a mistake... but what was not a mistake, was that the small shot of lemonade cost £2.50 and the Brasserie Menu is only for the evening and finally, if you want a window seat... you had better book.Total £35.70 with an Optional Service Charge of £4.46

Having been here before standards have slipped would be nice to go back to the old ways with dim lighting a bit more romantic not feel like you are in cattle market.

The restaurant is in a lovely setting, the staff were friendly and helpful shame about the food. It was OK but it could have been so much better. The cheese salad starter that should have come with pea shoots didn't and the cheese was tasteless. The slow cooked salmon starter also had little flavour. The chilli and garlic linguine was OK but expensive for what it was. The sole was the best of a mediocre bunch. Would not rush back.

We ate in this restuarant once during our three night stop. You were able to choose from the a la carte and the bistro menus. The four of us chose from both and all dishes were very good. The waiting staff were very helpful and hard working. I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

Arrived mid afternoon to have tea/scones and prosecco (complimentary when Simon heard what the occasion was).Relaxed in the comfortable lounge before having an excellent dinner(5 of us).Service very good.After a comfortable nights sleep we enjoyed a superb breakfast (served,not buffet!!) and were able to chat and relax without being hurried.

A lovely setting for the restaurant at Hatton Hall Hotel. Service was very good without being intrusive.

I had hake and chips for an evening meal the chips were lovely and crisp not fatty, the fish was cooked to perfection, breakfast I had a lovely ham and mushroom omelette which was absolutely lovely. the staff are very attentive but on overly so. Definitely will return.

The food was really good and well presented. The wife had cheese soufflé and the cider mussels and I had Caesar Salad and the Haddock and Chips. Both were excellent except there seemed to be a lack of cider in the mussels making it a bit too creamy.The costs weren't to expensive either as we had a bottle of wine too and the bill was less than £75.I am told that the meals are always good so on first try I definitely won't disagree.

Spent a two day break at Hatton court. This is a second visit first one 8 year's ago. It was a classic cotswolds getaway package from offpeakluxury.com . It was good value for money. We stayed in an Executive Room with a balcony with complimentary afternoon tea on arrival . Dinner and breakfast on both days. The quality of food was first class as was the service.The hotel is located in a quiet part of the cotswolds and ideal hotel as a base. Will definitely return again.

best restaurant i had for a long time and the choices were very large. You had a choice between the menu or a la carte or even the bar menu was available as well in the dining room. a la carte menu wass the best variety of choices i think this restaurant could become a "Michelin Star restaurant"

meal was alright but that is about all you could say again disabled facilities non existent certainly not he best value.

Beware when driving into the property as the drive is seriously deficient and potentially damaging to the suspension of your car. We had Sunday lunch, and while we found the waiting staff very helpful and the surroundings in the restaurant very nice, the lack of warmth meant that my wife continued to wear her body warmer (the radiators were cold, on a very cold day).Normally Yorkshire puddings accompany beef, but there was no beef on the menu and the puddings were served with the chicken and belly pork courses. The puddings themselves were dried out hollow items and gave the appearance of overblown muffins, or possibly even Cameron Hot Air Balloons - extremely disappointing. The belly pork was soggy, would normally be crispy. While the meat courses were disappointing, the fish course was good The glass of Rose and the glasses of White wine, were not served chilled. The staff were attentive and friendly, our group of 3 couples enjoyed excellent conversations, but overall the experience could have been better

We ate here on a Saturday night. We had great service, there was a great menu choice, we had a very informative waiter who answered any questions we had.There was a good wine selection, overall the whole evening was faultless.

Lovely venue high on a hill affording views across to the river Severn. Very good Sunday lunch served by friendly and helpful staff. Very nice restaurant, tables laid with white linen tablecloths and napkins. A bit prices but enjoyable nevertheless. Would recommend

Firstly I shall start with the positives; the building is beautiful with good views and is really well maintained and the wine list is extensive, well selected and well priced.The food and service however were poor at best, we ordered from the lunch menu and found that the smoked salmon and caper terrine is actually four wafer thin layers of smoked salmon with thick layers of butter mixed with tiny amounts of caper in between until the whole thing is 2 inches tall. Being honest it was almost truly inedible.The main course that was selected was belly pork yet what was served was pork steaks, these were cooked very well but the whole dish bore at best a passing resemblance to what was listed.We gave dessert a miss as the first two courses were poor.Service was amongst the most disorganised I have ever seen - water was requested when we first arrived and was delivered in time for main course, the wine was served halfway through the starter despite ordering long before we ordered food, glasses were chipped, cutlery was missing, being honest it was a farce from start to finish and the vast majority was down to either poor training or staff who just don't care.Sadly I can't see me ever going back.

We booked a birthday party at this restaurant. We would have no hesitation in going back again as we all thoroughly enjoyed our day. Excellent food and service at a great price.

Average food at stupid prices. The wine list featured a £7 Cabernet for £22. Our steak was poor quality and undercooked. Avoid this restaurant.

Called in on a Saturday afternoon after walking around Painswick. Quite difficult to park as there were a lot of cars in the car park but did manage to find a place lower down. Friendly welcome by reception staff and when asking about afternoon tea were directed to the Tara restaurant. Male staff member in the restaurant was very pleasant and helpful. Let us choose where we wanted to sit and made sure we were familiar with the afternoon teas available before we ordered.We opted for Cream Teas and were very happy with our choice, the scones were so light and tasty we could of eaten more (These were offered but we declined as we were eating out in a couple of hours). Quick friendly service with an excellent cream tea and nice views will certainly be back..

Overall a pleasant dining experience, although my partners steak was poorly cooked and the accompanying chips unpleasantly hard.

Incredible food, fresh from a menu that changes daily, lovely modern classy restaurant, with excellent wine selection,and very friendly, polite, helpful staff.

Amazing food, highly recommended for all tastes, top knotch attentive staff which listen to your requirements.

The tasty food was served fast and without problems for individual details regarding vegetarians, people who don't eat fish ... We could eat typical dishes and were unanimously pleased with our meal.

We had a very good group meal for 20 on the Sunday night of a weekend stay. The food was excellent and the staff well organised and obliging.

We were booked for a two night stay superior room but room was a standard quality no finer touches in fact the loo flush hardly worked. Taps in bath needed either long arms or stand in bath to operate taps due to shower screen. The whole place which used to be so elegant now run on a shoestring. Bar staff were very attentive but other service left abit to be desiredEvening meal food was very good but breakfast not. Orange juice tasted like squash coffee no taste and my poached eggs were like hard boiled.We had a front room which unfortunately was noisey due to coach loading and leaving at 6-30 am The whole stay was disappointing considering the cost.

The Tar restuarant is quite classy and set with views over the hills . the staff are very pleaasant.the evening meals are priced at £25.000 per person for three course but prtiona are small. good selection of wines

my god CRAP booked for 6.30pm arrived at table on time 40 minutes later starters arrived smoked salmon and blacked pudding with egg 40 MINUTES TO DO THIS UN REAL then confit duck leg was ok my ribeye was cold and looked horrid SERVICE BY DUMBER AND HIS MERRY TEAM I GIVE NO POINTS VICKY WAS GREAT AND HELPFULL wont return should be closed nasty place

Excellent food beautifully presented. An interesting and varied menu. I am a Coeliac and was very well looked after.

We visited here for lunch on a Saturday in February, there was 14 of us in total, all here to celebrate a 'big' birthday for one of our party. The bar was lovely for our pre-drinks, a roaring fire on a very cold day with a nice atmosphere. The restaurant presentation was nice but the service was very slow for both food and drinks. The menu was limited for lunch with not much choice and the portions were very small. I think most of us left feeling just as hungry as when we came in. The food itself was very tasty just too smaller portion. My Eton Mess had two raspberries in it and was literally two dessert spoons of eating and then it was gone, most of the table had Eton Mess' for pudding and they were all exactly the same. So all in all it was ok, but definitely would not visit again.

We went over to the bar prior to our dinner which we had booked for 8pm. Service in the bar was excellent and we really enjoyed our Tanqueray 10 gin, the only thing I would say is that it would have been nice to have been served a better quality of tonic with it.We arrived at the restaurant just after 8pm and waited a couple of minutes until a staff member spotted and seated us. We were offered water and the menu and then left alone for at the very least 15 minutes. We eventually placed our drinks order and opted to order the food at the same time. We had been told that one of the 5 main course options was off, the sea bass, no issue but when we came to order the venison was also off, leaving us with a choice of pork, sole or some vegetarian option, not exactly impressive considering the meal is supposed to be £40 per head, to be left with just 60% of the small menu is not good enough. We got an apology but really that didn’t help as I was going to have the pork and my husband the venison, so we had no choice but to change, I ordered the sole and my husband the pork. My husband went off to complain at reception, which got us nowhere.It seems that from the minute we complained we were seen as trouble makers, and the service we were given became worse and worse. We really didn't pay our money for this package to have a bad time, we actually really wanted some quality time together but less 30 minutes into our evening meal it was clear that it was going to be a total disaster.We waited and no wine, then the amuse bouche (tomato soup, bland) arrived and we sent it back as we wanted to get our wine. The wine arrived and a couple of minutes later the bland soup re-appeared. Eventually our starters arrived, brought over by a lady who we again complained to and whilst she was there we went to tuck in and I found that my scallops were lukewarm at best, not impressed and the starters went back. When they came back they were fine but nothing special. Another very long wait and the mains arrived, (it must be mentioned that by this time the couple next to us had sent their mains away twice due to them being cold) and they were fine, no one came over to check if they were ok. We had to ask for another bottle of wine as by this time we had been in the restaurant for around 1 hour and 45 minutes, I pointed out when we requested the wine that no one had checked if our mains were ok, the tall guy we asked was rather rude and muttered something about not having been near our table.The wine came, we finished our mains, well my husband did, I didn’t enjoy my sole main, it was dry and tasteless. We were given dessert menus. We ordered the Rhubarb, my favourite, and cheese. The rhubarb was rock hard to the point that I couldn’t even get my spoon through it, it was totally inedible.We ended up having an altercation with the couple next to us after they told us to stop complaining, they seemed to think that our complaints were unjustified even though they had not ended up having a main course, as they’d sent it back twice and made a fair bit of noise in doing so. I have to confess that I was was very upset by their attitude and stormed out of the restaurant after shouting at them very rudely. I had had just about enough, I only booked the stay the day before and was really excited, within minutes of arriving into the restaurant it was clear that I really had made a massive mistake in booking this place. We were given the bottles of wine on the house, but to be honest we had barely eaten during the evening, and felt a little worse for wear as had not had enough to eat to soak the alcohol up. I apologise for my rudeness.It would have to be said that charging £40 for the three courses we were given is scandalous, yes the food looked pretty but it wasn’t all that pleasant and every course had issues. Having looked at your website I was expecting very good food but alas, it just didn’t hit the mark.

The food was well presented and very tasty. I had lentils cooked in coffee with chicken. Different, yes, but the combination works. I will try and find a recipe. The Menu range is fairly small.

I regularly use this hotel on business trips, so I thought why not take my wife to the Tara Restaurant when we were in the area.The food was good, however the service was painfully slow. Nearly three hours for a three course meal to be served.Despite the complaining by a diner on an adjacent table, for which nothing seemed to be right, the food was great.Starters - Smoked Salmon // Scotch EggThe Smoked salmon was well presented and tasty. The Scotch Egg could only be described as fantastic. It had obviously been made fresh as the egg yolk was slightly runny.Main - Stuff Chicken (both of us)Well cooked, being breast meat it was slightly dry, however this was made up for by the tasty vegetables.Pudding - Rhubarb Crumble (both of us)Served in a ramekin on a slate with a scoop of ice cream. Again tasty and well presented.When paying we mentioned the slowness of the service and got an apology. I did sympathise with them about the "moaning myrtle" who had been sitting on the adjacent table.Would we go again, of course. The food is great and usually the service is at a better apce.

presentation was excellent and portion size good. only problem cheese was cold but this was a health and safety thing apparently

We both chose from the a la carte menu, which consisted of many varied choices.(Apparently, at the time of our stay, the menu is in the middle of being altered) We were more than satisfied with the choices available though.Service was excellent, and the wine list was not excessively over priced, unlike many other establishments. We also had breakfast the following morning. This again was excellent. Cooked breakfasts individually cooked to order. A great improvement on the often offered dried out options on offer at other establishments. The staff, were lovely, firendly, obliging and very efficient. A credit to the establishment.
