Absolutely brilliant. The staff are so incredibly attentive, natural and friendly. That was the first thing I noticed. After that, the food was fantastic. Bread is high quality, as were the chips. Beautiful pub in Amberley. We were lucky to be staying in Amberley on holiday in Olea a beautiful thatched cottage. Couldn’t fault the warm welcome we were given by the barman when we called for a drink and to book Sunday dinner. Sunday lunch was amazing the best ever. Grr er nervous portion and melt in the mouth beef. If we didn’t live 6 hours away we would go every week! We dined again and throughly enjoyed the short ribs of beef. I’m sorry I can’t remember the lady who is front of house but she was excellent. Don't hesitate to book and enjoy a very pleasant experience.

We visit this Pub quite often, but I have never really took the time to show our appreciation in words on how welcoming the staff are and how good the food is. Parking can be a challenge, and probably winds the locals up a bit if done without consideration but I would suggest parking in the village car park and taking a short stroll. This place never seems to disappoint with choice and quality of food, but they won’t turn there nose up at you if you just want a pint in the bar, it is always busy and yet they always manage very well to look after you. Comfortable dining is what I like so I for one will always return.

Proper Pub, Proper food, Great views, Great service. What's more to say? For me the Black Horse is everything a traditional pub should be, great for the outdoors in summer, a wonderful 'snug' bar in the winter.

Came here today with my dog and have to say the girl behind the bar was really nice and polite and views are amazing, but that's about it for the good. Ordered a simple cheese sandwich and chips, sandwich was fine, but the chips were absolutely saturated with salt, so salty I couldn't even eat them and the ones I ate made me really dehydrated and needed tons of water. Also had a bad stomach for days after. How something so simple could be so bad shows how incompetent the staff are, and basically paid £16 for a sandwich, which was the only thing edible. I also heard what sounded like a racial slur, from a male member of staff, which I believe may have been aimed at me, due to my dark skin tone, though I am white. I say this as I was the only person there at the time. The fact they never responded to this denying it says all that needs to be said..

Have eaten here in the past and it was okay but more recently have only been to have a drink. Well-stocked bar which specialises in whiskies. Nice rear garden for the summertime with a lovely view across the valley and, in the winter, roaring fires in bar area and dining room. Gents loo outside! Front garden is a play area for kiddies.

Aghast!! We were a group of dog walkers who were booked in by telephone 2 weeks before for Sunday lunch. When we arrived they couldn’t find our booking and said “ we have some young bar staff who probably didnt make note of your booking” Worse was when the barmaid said” there is also a black horse, Amberly in Sussex, are you sure you rang the right number? They were so rude. We clearly won’t be back! Went to the Lamb inn at Eastcombe at short notice who were brilliant.

The good: the drinks and view from the back garden are fantastic as they have always been. The staff are friendly. The bad: everything else. I've counted myself very lucky over the years that this is one of my local pubs, but our most recent visit was awful. We waited nearly an hour for our roasts to be brought out and when they finally came it wasn't worth the wait. The pork still had string on and no crackling (despite the menu saying there would be). The chicken didn't look or taste like it had come from a roast bird and the stuffing was rock hard. The roast sizes were inconsistent - there was a lot more food on the chicken plate than the pork. Nothing tasted like it was worth the price. Maybe I've been spoilt by my visits to The Ship in Brimscombe, but overall, this was a very disappointing experience.

Heard a racial slur while I was the only one there. This has happened before due to my dark skin tone, though I'm white. What a view on a lovely summer's evening! However, if you visit and decide to eat you might get turned away if you hadn't booked a table first as we were despite only asking for two meals; a burger and a chicken taco. Of course, any pub can set their own policy, but we were a little surprised given the fact that there were several empty tables so clearly not running at capacity. So my advice to visitors, book a table if you want to eat.

Booked a lunch time table for two after our Air BnB hosts recommend it. Arrived early for our 1pm booking and we had decided to dine inside as I am not a sun worshipper. Sat down at our allocated time and ordered within 2 minutes as we knew exactly what we wanted .... we came for a roast dinner and that is what was ordered. There was a very young team of staff on duty and they were all polite. Sadly that is where the positives ended. Our food took over 40 minutes to arrive. In that time no one bothered to speak to us about a delay or even apologise when the meals were delivered. The food was barely warm and awful. The meat was tough and the potatoes hard. We did not bother to bring this to the staff's attention as I could not wait any further for another meal to be prepared. If I had brought our dogs with us I would not have even given it to them. We do plan to return to the area again for a break but would not visit this place again.

Nice pub, just a shame on food… overpriced for what it was. I chose hunters chicken over a burger because I wanted the salad but just got some leafs when asked the reply was that it was a salad and she walked off, salad normally has a bit more to it. There were only a few customers, it was a bit lack lustre really, the table nearest to us wanted to move out of hard chairs but were told these were the best We were eating our dessert when the chefs walked out of kitchen and I heard the girl say no more desserts now, the table next to us hadn’t finished their main course, it was 2pm, I just hope they didn’t want pud! Won’t be returning for lunch as customers seem an inconvenience and pub doesn’t seem to set up for this trade which is surprising as other establishments in the area are very busy at lunchtime !

Been meaning to return to this pub for about 12 years having visited once on an opening night one busy Saturday night. As expected the views were amazing. We didn’t eat but enjoyed a quick pre-lunch half cider. It was fairly quiet. Staff weren’t busy, they were chatting together and so we had to leave our stool at the bar to approach them for drinks. They were friendly otherwise and the cider was really good. First impression on arrival, it’s not a picturesque pub but that can’t be helped. What it needs is a good clean and tidy up. This is not meant to be a mean post but I was a tad disappointed with its presentation. A little bit of effort into smartening up this building would go a long way to making it a really, Really nice pub.

Spent many of my late teenage evenings at this pub so nice to revisit it. Very little has changed over the intervening 30 years . They have a great area in the garden full of toys for younger children, some have seen better days but children don’t care about such things & my nephew loved it. Food was lovely (Sunday roast) & they offer the option of smaller portions which was great for the elderly group members. Interior could do with an update but appreciate the hospitality trade is struggling & doubt there is any surplus £ to do this.

The Black Horse has an idyllic location and unsurprisingly many flock there in the summer to sample the superb views & walking on the nearby Minchinhampton Common. There are always a healthy mixture of locals and tourists, good for conversation. Parking isn't easy and visitors need to be aware of the narrow roads & proximity of local residents who need access to drives. But most will feel it's worth sampling the hospitality for the range of beers and varied menu. There is a lot of competition in the area and the Black Horse do need to ensure sufficient staffing and the quality of food matches the price. We did have a very long wait for our food, probably a reflection of labour shortage rather than the competence of the staff employed. If there is likely to be a lengthy delay in the arrival of food, it's helpful if visitors can be warned in advance. My chilli con carne at £14:95 was expensive for the portion size and quality of the dish. The burgers at almost £17 also seemed overpriced. I do understand the increase in staff and energy costs & food inflation, but not sure these prices are affordable for many. I wish the Black Horse all the best, it's a tough time to be running a pub and this is a lovely location for both locals and visitors to the south Cotswolds.

Excellent pub, visited before an FGR game. Owners were very friendly and welcoming, log burner on the go and delicious pizzas!

Our second visit for lunch, cheerful and helpful staff who always make you feel welcome. Plenty of choice on the menu, very reasonably priced and generous portion sizes. If you are looking for traditional food, value for money in a homely venue then this is the place for you. Looking forward to our next visit.

We enjoyed our Anniversary stay and meal at Hatton Court Hotel. All staff were polite, friendly and very efficient ensuring we had an enjoyable evening. The surroundings, atmosphere and ambiance were very pleasant. The menu had an excellent selection of food and wines to choose from, I enjoyed the crispy salt & pepper squid but in my opinion, after being served my ‘Bouillabaisse’ (fish stew!) I was underwhelmed, the lobster bisque was lacking flavour and missing the mussels (I didn’t initially realise there were none) the Sea Bass was very nice, but I did put in a late order of fries which arrived in no time at all. On the other hand my wife really enjoyed the Arancini, followed by Braised pulled beef feather blade. The bottle of Italian wine was very nice and paired well with the fish. We would not hesitate to eat here again, but my choice of mains would certainly be different.

Lovely friendly pub. We came to meet up with family to exchange Christmas presents and have a Sunday lunch. The food was fantastic. It came within a suitable time, lovely and hot. Well presented and cooked to perfection. The staff were very accommodating and professional. Highly recommend this lovely quaint pub.
