Despicable food I had the liver and it was grey ,grainy and congealed the mash was cold but the veg was ok. My husband had the garlic chicken which was coated in raw garlic When I complained I was told it was one of their best sellers !! The man was rude to an extent that was unacceptable and I had to walk away. Just do not go there

(Family of 4, Friday 25th august 2023) Arrived at 11.50am and saw that it opens at midday so didn’t mind waiting in the front garden for 15 minutes. A lady went past us just before noon and entered through the back doors so we knew that someone from inside knew that we were there. However, at 12.10pm there was no sign of the doors opening. I phoned at 12.15 but there was no reply. At 12.20 we returned to the rear car park where you can also find overgrown stinging nettles , a dumped vehicle and a falling down shed. Whilst driving out we saw a DPD delivery driver making a delivery but no sign of anyone opening the doors. Another car (2 occupants) had also decided to leave as they weren’t prepared to wait either. We drove to Exmouth where we spent £30 having delicious cream teas , cakes etc. (Bumble Bee tea room is 5 mins walk from exmouth beach and well worth a visit).

We were staying at Haven, and this little gem caught our eye and I'm so glad it did. Very cute cottage style pub. Relaxed and very welcoming atmosphere. First visit was my partner and me (date night) 🩷 My partners liver and oinion were pit of this world, cooked to perfection. It was so good we went back again with the family and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food. Food was absolutely delicious and couldn't argue with the prices. We will definitely be going there next time in the area 🍻⛱️🙂

We came down from London to Devon for 1 week and this was by far the best thing we had done. We were talking to the lovely owners Steve and Kerry and we must have been talking for 2 hours, the service was quick, the scones with the cream and jam was absolutely beautiful, we then had a roast dinner in which the beef was tender, potatoes seasoned and crispy and the vegetables just as nice along with the Yorkshires which were beautiful. If you want either a pub or to get some good British lunch then definitely come here, the atmosphere was something else, they were very welcoming. This is definitely the best pub I’ve been to.

Really looking forward to cream teas and this place looked perfect. We entered the small dining room and waited. After about 5 minutes and man came out and said no dogs allowed. I tried to ask if someone would come out to us outside and take our order and he cut me off and told me again, no dogs allowed and get out!! There were no signs anywhere about dogs not being allowed and completely understand that this their business and decision but what is no acceptable is the rudeness and the very unpleasant way he spoke to me if front of my 2 young children.

OK so I can't avoid the fact the dining room is snug. But the food far from made up for that fact. It could do with a sprucing up to bring it in to the 21st century. But dining and food wise we had a lovely meal..would go back, and its worth giving a chance. As it's one of the more tucked away places..it may get over looked But lovely roast!

Pictured are 2 specials from the board of the day - 'beef bourguignon' and I think it was 'chicken stroganoff'. Both home made and a bit on the peppery side - I think the beef was best. Very enjoyable meal although others in our party didn't like the pepper too much. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, but I would recommend parking in the street outside as the car park could get a bit cramped. You'd probably best book too!

We had driven past this pub about half mile from our caravan site a couple of times and was drawn to the lovely thatched cottage and beautiful garden. This little gem has a car park at the back. We ordered our food which is home cooked , my dad and myself had liver and veg and mash and my husband had beef Bourguignon, the liver was delicious tasty and hot and my husband said it was the best beef bourguignon he had tasted and all meals plentiful, eating it in lovely surroundings and being looked after by the lovely couple that owned it. Very good price for delicious home cooked grub

Started off by owner telling us what wasn't available, then it was only his wife in the kitchen and he couldn't get staff! I ordered the pasta which was hot on top cold at the bottom., microwave didn't reach that bit. My husband had cottage pie which tasted like mince beef from a tin. The fish tank hadn't been cleaned in months and that should've given me a clue. I would not go back again and it did taint my holiday.

Went the other night with my family. Owners opening gambit was to say how he could not get any staff and then to tell my wife that a ploughman's she said she might like was unavailable. No worries we thought and took a table. Bad mistake. A waitress took our orders. On asking for lime and soda we were informed they had no soda water. My son asked for diet pepsi only to be told that they did not have any even when we could all see that very coke in the fridge by the bar. The food. They say home cooked food. For sure I would say its warmed up on site. Cooked?? I had the shepherds's pie. It came with mince spread across the plate with some sort of square cheese topping laid in the middle. The square cheese topping to me was from frozen. The mince tasted like it was from a tin as were the peas. The chips, oven chips. My wife and daughter in law each had a chicken and pasta dish. These were served up hot on top and stone cold on the bottom. As for taste, judging by how much they left, not good. My son was also deeply underwhelmed with chicken skewers and left most of them on the plate. I do not often post reviews on here especially if I have nothing good to say. However this time I have to say do not bother. We went after passing it on the way to spend some time at the Haven caravan park close by. I only wished we also passed it on our way out.

Table of 6 plus toddler. Went to order drinks, only Carlsberg on tap the other 2 had nothing on them. Asked for a shandy, tried a bit, asked for a bit more lemonade but had ran out! Starter was nice and toddler ate fish, mash and beans. At first was told that we couldn’t have mash instead of chips for a 1 year old as wasn’t on the menu but finally agreed to do it. Curry tasted as if the sauce was from a jar, scampi was overcooked, onion rings came out cold so sent back… they reheated them in the fryer and brought the same ones back out. Could only have child size spag bol, why not put 2 portions together to make an adult meal. Had a hair in my mash! Waited an extra 10 minutes for final meal to come out even though it was the same as one of the other ones that had already come out, would’ve been nice to all eat together! Mentioned to older guy about the wait, no apologies no nothing. Stopped serving food by 8pm as had ran out of most things. Would definitely not recommend to anyone!

Do not go. Looks beautiful but smell, food and customer service is absolutely terrible and is way overpriced. Inside the cottage is dark and smells awful, a rustlers microwave burger is leagues better than what they served us, the gentleman behind the bar was very rude and abrupt. Wish we had walked away before ordering but lesson learned. While eating our food the gentleman behind the bar came outside to smoke a cigarette and proceeded to walk into the kitchen while smoking and then came back outside to stub it out. The chef also came out of the kitchen to stroke a cat and then re-entered the kitchen, god knows if she washed her hands after (highly doubt it judging by everything else). Disgusting. £40 for two burgers that were practically car tyres slapped between two soggy buns, the coleslaw was clearly sloppy seconds and the pickle they put on the side of the plate looked like a big slug they had picked up off the floor and smelled like it had been dipped in fairy liquid. My brother and his partner also ordered food which wasn’t far off £40, the cottage pie was a salty cottage soup and the chicken skewers were like cardboard. Such a shame as this could be a lovely place but was a complete let down. If I could rate this less than a 1 star I would. Never again.

The service was awful, the owner was very grumpy and the staff didn’t know what they were serving us. When the food arrived it look like it was slapped on a plate and the coleslaw had clearly been left out for a while as it had spread on the plate. We visit this place every time we come to Devon Cliffs. It was a different experience this time due to Covid, but just as enjoyable. We tucked in to a cream team as usual, but it came in a takeaway box instead. Great to see small businesses doing what they need to so they can keep trading!

We visited Tythe Cottage today as we wanted to enjoy a traditional Devon cream tea in the sun while on holiday at Devon Cliffs. Sadly both the service and the food quality wasn’t the best, no complaints but we left feeling a little disappointed, especially as the location and ambience is really nice. The cake wasn’t great, tasteless plain scones (my 10 year old daughter bakes nicer) and the sandwich fillings were very average using cheap ingredients. Due to COVID everything is served in polystyrene takeaway boxes (which is ok if I had ordered a takeaway) so an afternoon tea served in a kebab box isn’t quite the same and definitely not inviting! The garden and location is lovely though, so a nice 15 min walk from Devon Cliffs if you fancy a change.

Enjoyed a couple of beers in the beer garden on this bar/restuarant, on a very hot day whilst visiting the area. A great stop off, I was reluctant to leave.
