We have called in here several times in recent months, usually for a drink or two before the train home after a day out. On one recent visit we also ate there, the meal was well presented and good value. We have visited many Wetherspoons over the years. The Powder Monkey is a popular town centre pub usually busy when we visit. On a sunny day the small front courtyard is often full. I have found the staff to be a helpful friendly team. Occasionally the place is a bit untidy after a very busy spell, but we have never had a problem finding a clean empty table.

Can't fault the place. You know what you're getting, atmosphere is good, food cheap but tasty. Clean. Close to centre and station.

Went in for a couple of drinks whlist on holiday traveling coastline was okay bit busy perfect location just wrong timing we went in

Very good place, we went yesterday, ordered on the app and sat outside. Very nice experience, no birds interrupting us due to the netting (very good) drinks came within 5 mins of waiting and the food came shortly after that. Good food, everythjng was nicely prepared and was very hot when it came to us :) great place

Typical Witherspoons pub, good value food and drinks. We visit a lot of Witherspoons and usually are always a good place to stop off for food. Only issue with the Powder Monkey is it is looking very tired and not very clean.

Started well, but they stopped serving us. They said it was a family pub. My cousin told them we were a family, but it didn't matter. I don't think we were being very loud, compared to e.g. a screaming kid. It was the start of the day, so we weren't drunk. By all means, go there. Just don't look like you're having fun.

Couldn't go in as we had our dog with us. 😩

Had a few pints here on Monday, was pleasantly surprised at the cost £1.99p for Real Ale,who can complain about that,when earlier I was down the Marina paying over £5.00p a pint,for inferior Beer,but then i must say its the Location you are paying for there ,not the Beer!!

The food was great and much better than a lot of the other weather spoons ive visited. The waiting time was a lot longer than I expected though

Go there often. Rob is amazing on service, he runs round the place like a fly. Nicole is so lovely, Steven is amazing laugh n a joke. Suzie goes out of her way to table check, the girls incredible. As for the food. You get what you pay for not really true. The food is 8/10 my only issue was presentation..but only once

The title says it all really. You know that a Wetherspoons is a Wetherspoons, in Exmouth or anywhere. It is Pubgrub, plus well known brands of liquid refreshment, efficiently served in a pleasant and functional interior, at a reasonable price. What more can you say? Apart from that major Credit Cards are accepted.

Good place, good food but as soon as i saw the wrinkled old goblin in the glasses i knew shed power trip on me at some point. The short old guy also likes to kick people out for not being wealthy enough for their establishment. Nice place but got to watch it with staff..

Probably the worst Wetherspoons we've been to. Food quality was awful and the place was not clean at all.

You can't moan about a Weatherspoons. Cheap and cheerful, staff were pleasant and helpful. Toast a little in the cold side but tasty. Coffee refill as much as you like . ...Leffe is always a must, beautiful pint...

We popped in here a few times while on a long weekend in Exmouth and we were not disappointed. Its a typical Wetherspoons, you know exactly what you are getting but it was done with a smile from all the lovely staff. Food as always is not gourmet cooking but its tasty, hot and served really quickly.

We went here on Tuesday 9th of April. Clean and relaxing interior that retains it's heritage well (particularly the front inside area). The staff here were polite, helpful and professional and the manager on duty was exemplary in her interaction with customers. Drinks were lovely, particularly the ales. Well done and thankyou.

Buzzing pub, plenty of atmosphere. Very friendly and helpful staff. Polite and courteous. Prompt service. Well supported by the regular punters from the mature generation sitting at the same table. Younger generation loud and noisy at times but acceptable. No in appropriate language. Food and service good. Very reasonable prices.

Ye Powder Monkey is excellent. The service is so fast. whether you order by app or at the bar. Friendly staff and prices are great.

Feb 2024, still good value food and drinks, use the App for table service. April 2023 update- still good value, fish and chips are great. Here ask for a takeaway cup for your refillable hot drink and take an extra refill with you when you leave ☕ 👍🏼 Cheep drinks and usually good food, plenty of space inside (and outdoors if it's summer) 👍🏼 if you agree 👍🏼

It's a Spoons, does exactly what you expect. Cheap, pub standard food. Service was fast, food as expected.

Quick spot of breaky whilst working. Very busy for midweek just before midday. Good value and tasty.

Busy, but efficient at delivering good service. Choice of real ales was good; All well kept. Tables cleared promptly, toilets clean.

Disabily toliet absolutely disgusting everybody uses them regardless of being disabled or not , staff happy to turn a blind eye .went into toilets with surgical boot after surgery , found toilet floor swimming with urine and feases, came home and sterized boot and had a shower due to the stench .

Been to a few, not so great, Wetherspoons in the last couple of years but The Powder Monkey is spot on. Spent a few days in Exmouth before Christmas and had a breakfast, lunch time snacks and pre-dinner drinks. The service from everyone was excellent, no-one shirking. Well behaved customers, didn't even see the usual 9am wide eyes cider drinkers! Thoroughly recommend.

Place is shabby needs a refurb but I like the atmosphere The bar staff could be quicker not always the easiest job but it is what you make it,

Typical 'Spoons" Had a pleasant lunch at only £15 for two including a drink

Ordered 2 large vodka's and 1 tonic (although you're allowed 2) and a small Merlot, wife was charged £13.12. Sat down, looked at the price list, this was clearly incorrect so queried with the bar person. As she saw the error the Manager was called. She told me that as I asked for vodka I was charged for the premium vodka and there was nothing she could do to refund the balance. She told me to return the drinks for a refund which I did. On giving me the refund she barred me from the premises, disgraceful customer service on every level. We went across the road to the Strand pub and got the very same round for less. Not the experience we were hoping for on the first drink of our holiday and not one I've experienced before at a Wetherspoons. Suggestion, look at your Manager, not credible for your business. Possibly the best frontage I’ve seen, in a Wetherspoon pub, thus far. After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit reticent in visiting here, but I was pleasantly surprised! If some think this is bad, then go to the one in Leatherhead. On the contrary - staff were friendly and fastidious. Clientele was very diverse - from early 20 something women, to families with kids, and elderly groups. Nice area by the fire.

We dropped in for lunch after a walk around Exmouth. Fairly tidy Spoons with some good Ales and very polite staff. Chose the fish and chips "afternoon deal" and it was pretty good to be fair. Two pints of local Jail ale and two meals for just over 15 quid !! No complaints here.

Extremely rude manageress The scruffy little one who looks like she could do with a wash If you don’t like PAYING customers using the app to order food and beers then take the app down It’s not our fault you are short staffed, if we had been told we would have pulled the beer ourselves and cooked the food When one of us asked for the manager, this little scruff said we are all barred…. All 13 of us ages from middle 50s to over 60s 😂 It boosted my street cred 😂😂 Worst Wetherspoons I have ever been in. Such a shame Letter of complaint sent in to head office because they need to know. All the other spoons have been fantastic

Like most places, Wetherspoon's prices have increased in recent months though I felt 2 x chicken meals, a pint and a bottled cider for £20 was good value. The team member was friendly and there was a check back during the meal. If I have a small gripe, it's for staff to provide the proper stemmed glass with the bottle of Aspall's Cyder and not simply a generic pint of ale glass which I received.

The cashier wasn't very helpful or friendly our drinks came with our meals but it wasn't made clear and we had to ask separately about it and the member of staff told us we had to go too the bar. One of our meals came out with no bitter for the jacket potato! One of the meals had alot less peas than the others. I ordered my son a meal and he was meant to have a chicken burger and he had two chicken stripes in a toasted bun that was rock hard and his pudding he was given mouldy blueberries with his strawberries and his ice cream was freezer burnt. I could not believe how poor that was and we didn't feel we could complain again as we was all made too feel awkward about complaining!.mouldy

So, I came here to have some lunch. we were about to sit outside but chose to sit in due to the drunks shouting and smoking weed. Anyway, so we found a seat inside, which I might add was like sitting in a dark cave I went to the bar to order some drinks and the guy behind the bar was half paying attention and the other half was watching football, other wise he would of heard me say no ice please I then placed my order and sat down waiting the food came out hot and quick but when my fish and chips arrived it looked as if it curled up and died The lady came over and asked if everything was OK. It was a bit hard to say, really, as the plates had only just been put on the table. When we cut into the fish , we noticed that it was more batter than there was any fish we had about the fish or, shall I say, batter it was not very nice at all I ate some of the chips and as for the mushy peas they well foul. A gentleman walked past very quickly, mumbled something at us, and walked off. I called the waitress over to say that I would like to see the manager regarding the food the manager came over and was very rude as I explained that I wasn't happy about the fish the so called people skills kicked in her reply was Well I did ask you if your meal was OK and you said yes I replied with well first you put the plate down and asked how can I answer you then She then said we'll I came back and asked again Well, she must have had her Harry Potter invisibility cloak on because im pretty sure I didn't see nor hear her I said to her well I never saw you the second time she replied with well no but my other colleague did I then said hold on you just said you did now your saying you didn't it was someone eles and if it was the guy that just spun in a cycle mumbling that I'm sorry I didn't no her worked her I just thought he was lost She then started to raise her voice at my and kept over talking me. I said to the so-called manage and said it's ok. I don't want any money from this It's funny how her tone changed from nasty to very sweet knowing that we didn't want any money So note to this place get training on people skills and pay more attention to your customers As for anyone who wants to come here, if you like a bad attitude, go and find a karrens diner. At least you pay for what you get and better food

Came here for a drink and snack, staff not very friendly one chap very rude. Tables very sticky. Food came quickly it was OK for what your paying. They kept clearing our table before everyone had finished. Been here before and it was good. Maybe because it's holiday season they was stretched.

Stayed at Devon cliffs caravan park decided to stop off here to get breakfast on way home, pay and display car park 1 min walk away. Quirky cozy little pub with a lovely little garden. Booths were cosy , ordered on app very easy and drinks breakfast can in good time even though was busy. Food very nice and and large portion size . Clean pub. Would definitely return .
