Ordered 2 medium steaks, served as very rare (lots of blood) sent back and same steaks came back 5 minutes later with no change. Sent back again and after long wait and complaining new steaks arrived and this stime they were very overcooked - looks like the microwave came in handy. Gave up and left hungry and very disappointed. Also my wife who did not order steak had to eat her dinner alone. Considering this was recommended to us it is very disappointing as staff did not know how to deal with this situation

Queue up, order gnocchi - it's off. Return, queue up order squash ravioli - it's off. Return, queue up (in ever increasing queue as clearly understaffed) order pork belly - it's off (of course!). Return, see size of queue has grown even further. Give up. Get snacks on beach instead. Shambolic from Greene King. Run like a hospitality business started a week ago rather than a hundreds of years.

Lovely location overlooking the bay in Beer, shame the rest doesn't quite live up to the same wow factor. Pub a little tired and definitely in need of a deep clean, however we were eating outside in the pub garden so not really an issue for us. Busy late afternoon / early dinner, so tables were pretty full outside. However we only had to wait a few minutes for one to be free. They've clearly spent some money on the garden, but it's annoying that so many of the tables are on a slope when it would have been simple to level the different sections to make it easier for customers dining or enjoying drinks at the tables. Anyway having chosen our food, we went to order at the bar and OMG were they slow to take orders. Staff really need training on speedy service as the queue was over 20 minutes long with some giving up and going elsewhere. Not all the food was available which was disappointing, and when dishes were partially available no alternatives were offered (eg a salad instead of garlic bread) or reductions in price. When asking about this the staff just said a flat NO! Great customer service! Some of the prices were also a little steep, being charged over £5 for one blackcurrant and soda! Queried this but was told it was correct, which makes it more expensive that London prices for this drink. Sauce bottles outside were greasy and sticky, clearly not cleaned regularly Food was average when it arrived, rather than great. Therefore wouldn't recommend or return which is a shame as it SHOULD be fantastic!

This is a busy, dog friendly pub serving a lots of passing trade. The staff are fantastic: friendly and helpful with every guest. It’s a bright and zoned environment with lots of different types of inside and outside seating, all with lovely views of the town and sea. The food is also to a very good standard e.g. a lightly dressed salad was just that, and the croutons had lightly crispy coats and soft insides - perfect. These are the some of the reasons we have come day-after-day; additionally, it’s in the heart of glorious Devon.

I did a review a few weeks ago when I was actually there... So this is partially a shortened update to that review. Staff are really friendly and the food is great. For the area it's in. It is mind price level. And there are both snacks/bar menu type and larger meals. Be cautious if you're eating outside on a cold gate. But eating outside is the way to go when the sun is shining because the view is spectacular. The location is spectacular. The village is spectacular. I definitely go back. Beer is a lovely little village located Between Seaton and Branscombe . It's definitely the sort of place that if you were to be fortunate enough to afford, then you would choose Beer over some of the other locations along the coast of devon And the anchor in would definitely feature as a local haunt, for me at least anyway. The pub is slightly raised off the beach. But that actually makes the seating area outside sfford you great views ! I did not stay at the hotel accommodation. However, I can only imagine. It's also well managed and of good quality But most importantly for me It's dog friendly.

This is in a beautiful location with great indoor and outdoor seating welcoming dogs and two legged friends alike. Because we ate outside it was plastic cups rather than glasses however the food was very nice. Downside to eating outside is by the time they've walked from the pub to the table the food has already gone cold and I do see this as an issue because french fries were stone cold and the beef baguette was tepid at best but still very very tasty, could be amazing! This isn't a complaint just advice that they need a workaround to make this perfect because the location is perfect. Service was good and we understood the half hour wait for food because it was packed. Beer is a beautiful village with great shops including the art shop which is a must see. The anchor Inn is a good end or start to your walk on the Jurassic coast! Do not expect disabled access to the toilets however but there are toilets nearby that might be more accessible. The seating area outside is very accessible from my recollection the pub has a small step and the toilet has a few steps. Overall very good and I'm definitely going again maybe just for a pint this time.

Pork- yorkshire put was good, veg was ok, stuffing was a tiny spoonful of packet mix, baked apple was not cooked 😖, cracking almost non-existent and roast potatoes were bought in prepped, they tasted powdery. Beef- so horribly chewy it was sent back and replaced with the pork. We ordered 2 sides of pigs in blankets at £2 per portion... absolute rip-off! You get 2, inch long cocktail sausages that's it!😤 4 roast dinners, 2 pigs in blankets, 3 lime and sodas and a diet coke came to £80.23!!!! £80.23!!!!! We will never go there again!

I can’t agree with other reviews regarding the staff, as all of those who met us at the entrance or brought us our drinks were very friendly and helpful. Ordering at the table is very easy, using the Greene King app, or you can go and order inside the pub. I had a bit of difficulty with the app at first and I must mention here the young man who worked in the outside area on two of our visits. Overall I think good value for money nothing special but ideal for what we wanted. The beer garden is the main USP for this hotel due to the location and view. Our experience wasn’t great. We were shown to a table and told by the waitress that we could use the Greene King app to order drinks and food. We duly downloaded this and set about placing our order. Although I do not claim to be a techie I normally can find my way through these but each time it failed when I tried to pay - entered card details manually, tried scanning card, tried PayPal but no joy so 20 minutes later I went to the outside till to order. The young waiter obviously was not fully trained in its operation and could not find the drink I ordered even though I had been able to find it on the app so another 10 minutes went by placing the order again. I was then told after paying for the food that there would be a 45 minute wait for the food! I know we are in difficult times and people are all doing their best but surely they can take an order manually rather than trying to force everyone into using the app. Believe it or not there are still people who do not have mobile phones and many more who cannot use apps so let’s have an easier way to order. When the food did arrive it was alright but I can only say it was normal pub grub standard. Needless to say we did not stay for another drink as I could not face going through the procedure again. We went to the Dolphin and were served immediately.

Shocking from start to finish! We always have at least one meal at the Anchor on our annual Beer, Devon holiday. As we anticipated it being busy we booked 2 months in advance. On arrival at our booked fine we were told there would be a 90 minute wait for food, as they had been so busy! The inside of the pup was actually only 20% full but the outside was busy. We had the most ‘couldn't be bothered’ disinterested, verging rude waiter who took our order. We should have left but the chance of finding somewhere else was not likely possible. When the food eventually arrived it was shockingly poor. My blue steak was ‘well done’ and the chips and onion rings were soggy and had a tainted smell to them. My wife ordered the roast which was tasteless with carrots that were hard with black centres - most unappetizing. Our daughter's burger was also not nice and she left most of it. We elected not to stay for deserts, paid and left. This was our first bad experience at the Anchor and I admit I had not checked recent reviews here so I hold my hands up, to a degree.

Had spent the day on the beach during this lovely hot spell we are having and decided to take my family to The Anchor Inn for a spot of dinner, the beer garden really is delightful and has the best sea views. We were encouraged to use the app, we found it pretty straight forward to use and saved having to get up all the time, we were just able to relax with a nice cold drink, there was an understandable delay on food which the host told us about on entry. The food was delicious, and definitely worth the wait, my sons particularly enjoyed the sundae desserts! We will definitely be coming here again.

Absolutely love this place. Well done to all the staff working today, it’s been roasting again and with the ease of the restrictions they’ve managed to serve each customer so well, and made our visit a wonderful one once again. ‘Freedom Day’ has been the best I could have imagined after coming here for lunch. Looking forward to coming back again over the summer

Rude hostess, rude to every single customer that asked her if they were still serving food, was rude about telling people that they dont have to wear masks outside when its not her choice its their preference. constantly Pulling rude faces at customers, every time some one speaks to her it seems like its too much of a problem for her to answer, we were told there was no food available yet a family that came after us were told that there shouldn't be too long of a wait on the food and that they were okay to order. It was our first time here and definitely our last, will not be recommending to people.

Booked a table. Turned out we didn't need to worry or rush because nobody that was eating had, hence the 50minute wait on food when we arrived. However, we were lucky enough to get a lovely view and didn't mind the wait. Food was good. Nothing amazing but generous portion on the meat for the Sunday lunch. I would say quite alot of salt, but that is a personal option. Staff were extremely hot...hottest day of the year but kept their cool. Being polite, efficient and hardworking.

Best position in Beer for a beer. Staff really friendly and even explained the annoying Greene King app to us! Food is basic pub food but prices are fine for that and it's all about a pint or two in the cliff top garden.

Went in for a evening drink, very rude hostess. She continued to tut and made snide comments, while staring into space. We left without getting anything. Do not recommend visiting here

Embarrassingly small portion of chips in a teeny tiny pie dish, about 5 inches by 4 inches! Approximately twenty chips! Not impressed for £3.30! Blatantly ripped off because of location. On a good note, the pastrami sandwich and the topped nachos platter were tasty! Please sort the chip portion sizes out or we’ll have to go to the chip shop up the road!
