Lovely pub in a beautiful seaside village amazing views on the beach clam and relaxing. Food was delicious and tasty ordered two meals that was fish and chips with peas and lasagna with grill bread and side salad. Service was excellent and professional a warm and a happy environment. I would highly recommend and will come back again when next visiting.

Awful food. Stick to Wetherspoons. Food much better and cheaper. Treated ourselves to an expensive meal out. Tiny portion of fish and chips for £14.50. Roast dinner in evening was lunch left overs. Soggy veg. 1 piece of broccoli! Don't waste your money

Came here two years ago and had the best meal so couldn't wait to return to Beer just to visit this pub. Unfortunately the meal wasn't a patch on our previous visit & the portions have been significantly reduced . We ended up going to the bakery afterwards to get something else to eat & we are not greedy people! No garnish on food & seeing other meals come out i thought it was a weight watchers pub! Staff were friendly & views are great.

Award winning steak pie, my aris! Even the seagulls dodged it. 2 pieces of meat per pie and one of those was gristle. 3 of us had it and 3 of us said the same. Gravy filled pie at steak prices. And the photo was taken after eating the gravy. The pie got left.

Recently visited and sat down with a lovely view and a beer. Decided to eat. What a disappointment to say the least. My wife had scampi. Not bad. I wanted fish & chips & asked what fish it was. I was told it was Tilapia a farmed fish from China !! Beer Fisheries is a 50 metre walk down the hill where there is prime cod, haddock, hake etc all available for the chef to buy fresh every day. Really dont understand as it seems a no brainer to me as most folk would surely pay £18-£19 for proper fish and chips instead of £14.50 for far east farmed fish. Wont be going back for food.

Great atmosphere in the pub on Easter Saturday. Our food was all served together despite being ordered separately. Great choice on the menu and great value. Just had lunch at the Anchor after a five year gap. Lovely staff. Food, hmm. Took an hour to come. Well I had the crusted cod scallops and potatoes and sadly it lacked any love. It tasted fine, but the cod was tiny, really tiny, and not crusted, I eventually found two scallops the size of a 1p coin and the potatoes, which tasted nice, were very lacklustre in texture. The burger was about as small as a burger can be. Macaroni was full and generous and the chicken and ham pie for two was good apparently. The Ceasar salad was fine, but the chicken in it looked and tasted as though it came from a supermarket packet. All in all it was ok, but as I mentioned before it all felt churned out and not presented with any pride from the chef, if indeed there was one. Running a restaurant is hard, I get that, but as a local I was disappointed that more care hadn’t been taken. Awesome location and nice staff, shame about the cad, burger and salad.

Visited late this afternoon to take advantage of the 2 for 1 Offer on Happy Hour drinks. Fantastically kept beer (I had the Level Head IPA) which was wonderful and the gin my partner had was described in her words as "proper gurt lush". Was quite busy early evening but got served promptly with a smile. Very relaxed in the beer garden opposite the pub on the cliffside. There can't be many better beer garden views in Devon! As semi-locals, we'll be back :)

We had a comfortable stay at the Anchor room was clean ... adjoining bathroom also. We had dinner and breakfast the following morning. Nothing terrible to say but with an almost perfect situation on the seafront at Beer ... it could be more. So four stars for being 'OK'.... for having friendly staff and being a nice refuge from a wet and windy night! Here's a few thoughts on what would have made it a 5 star review!! Food .... I've eaten here a few times over the years... you could describe the fare as "Wetherspoons Plus" the usual breaded fish, chicken and burgers, probably what most people prefer but with fresh locally caught fish on sale within 100 meters it would be so nice to see one or two offerings that reflect that. Wine ... perfectly nice pinot Grigio but at around £25.00 per bottle it's a bit on the steep side. Breakfast additional to room price at £12.00 with a choice of continental or cooked ok. Accommodation. Very nice large bath. The shower gel dispenser awkwardly sited away from the shower unit and too high to reach in the bath!! Bathroom door hinges had a "Halloween " grade creak... not what you want if you use the bathroom in the small hours! Resorted to smearing some shower gel on the hinges which fixed the problem but really ...you don't get rusty hinges like that in one day... Bedroom: Comfortable with a good view of the beach and sea. TV only has freeview. No welcome pack to be seen. Tea and coffee OK. So overall a nice place to stay. The menu could be more interesting and some aspects of the accommodation need a bit of attention to detail.

Down in the area for a weeks holiday and de used to meet up in Beer with some friends for lunch. The Anchor was a fairly obvious choice as it is situated just off the beach/harbour area. It’s is also dog friendly which helped us as we had the spaniel with us. Quite a few dogs in the bar area as well. Surprisingly it wasn’t too busy so we could pick our table and could eat and drink with plenty of room. Food was nice with a fairly typical pub menu to pick from. A nice touch was their smaller plates menu where you could comfortably have a 2 or 3 course meal without a struggle at a very reasonable price. Bangers and Mash, Mac & Cheese chocolate brownies and a nice fruit crumble with custard were all polished off enthusiastically. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

I stayed at the hotel whilst hiking on the South West Coast Path and ended up staying an extra night. The room was warm and clean, with an incredibly comfortable bed and a view out over the sea and village. The pub had an incredibly friendly vibe, with it being mostly locals at this time of year. I was staying on my own and the staff were friendly and welcoming, taking the time to ask me about my trip and introducing me to locals throughout the evening. I didn't book a table and just ate in the bar, but regardless the service was quick and the food was delicious.

The location is wonderful and parking was easy, everyone working here is really helpful. We had food in the evening which was beautiful. Our room though was basis, either too hot or too cold. Served by a separate bathroom that was basic to say the least. The door engaged latch was working and you had to be a ventriloquist to reach to loo roll! Rather noisy place when they are locking up, or collecting stocking, a lot of talking in the early hours and doors banging quite loudly. These could be easy fixes to resolve.

Amazing Inn to visit. We prebooked a table online and our table was ready with a reserved sign. We were made to feel welcomed from the outset. Lovely clean surroundings. Warm and inviting. Tasteful Christmas decorations and a real log fire added to the atmosphere. Food and service were worthy of a 10/10 score. Food was really tasty. Presented well and such good value. We were asked if everything was okay with our meal, by staff who presented happy in their work (too often these days staff don't make any effort, present happy or welcoming). The Anchor is part of the Greene King group. We visit the area at least.2 to 3 times a year and every time our experience at The Anchor is the same - excellent! We like it that The Anchor is dog friendly.and in a lovely position by the beach. Also next to a car park, if you can't get 2 hour free high street parking spot. Nice garden (used in the summer) just across the road and with amazing views. Beer is a lovely hamlet to visit all year round. Breakfast was certainly an interesting experience. The incredibly friendly staff certainly had their own unique system of handling groups of over 4 people so you can imagine their delight when we arrived with a group of 20. Potential customers should be aware that you categorically must not order for yourself but through a middle party instead. If you try to order your own food or drink I suggest you speak to the responsible person in your party for them to relay your order to the very lovely rosey cheeked attendant at the till. In my case our responsible person was only 3 foot away from me but we made sure to follow the rules as to not cause an eruption of chaos in the kitchen. When I received my apple juice, I really admired its antique look. The sediment at the bottom and the out of date use by label really added to the chic worn vibe that this hip establishment embellishes by the bucket load. The cleaner is obviously very lucky and has had a long holiday, (possibly to another farm shop the costa del Sol). I say this as the building has acquired an impressive collection of cobwebs in their absence. Now the main event BREAKFAST!!! Everyone likes to start their day with a hearty meal, I feel the two members of staff whole heartedly agreed with me as they left a few extras in some of our food to make sure we didn’t go hungry. One fantastic long black hair that I’m sure is packed full of protein (looked like a moustache hair, but I’m not a barber). One no longer buzzing fly that gave my crispy bacon that extra crunch. I also stayed hydrated through the water that was served to me from a designer tea pot that had amazing tea colouring and stains within in. Once I had consumed my meal I made sure to use the toilet facilities to rid my ablutions apart from the skid marks and the mixtures of cobwebs and urine the toilets were delightful. In all it was an unforgettable magical experience. Shamefully I am stuggling to give it 5 stars and there was a small chip in the plate my breakfast was served on. 4 stars.

Friendly staff, terrible food. Ordered ribs and they were 90% cartilage and fat, fries were limp and tasted of oil. Left feeling unwell. Good pub for some drinks though!
