The only good thing about this place is the parking, because no one is ever there. Poor service, poor food, poor attitude. Would never recommend!

Breakfast was certainly an interesting experience. The incredibly friendly staff certainly had their own unique system of handling groups of over 4 people so you can imagine their delight when we arrived with a group of 20. Potential customers should be aware that you categorically must not order for yourself but through a middle party instead. If you try to order your own food or drink I suggest you speak to the responsible person in your party for them to relay your order to the very lovely rosey cheeked attendant at the till. In my case our responsible person was only 3 foot away from me but we made sure to follow the rules as to not cause an eruption of chaos in the kitchen. When I received my apple juice, I really admired its antique look. The sediment at the bottom and the out of date use by label really added to the chic worn vibe that this hip establishment embellishes by the bucket load. The cleaner is obviously very lucky and has had a long holiday, (possibly to another farm shop the costa del Sol). I say this as the building has acquired an impressive collection of cobwebs in their absence. Now the main event BREAKFAST!!! Everyone likes to start their day with a hearty meal, I feel the two members of staff whole heartedly agreed with me as they left a few extras in some of our food to make sure we didn’t go hungry. One fantastic long black hair that I’m sure is packed full of protein (looked like a moustache hair, but I’m not a barber). One no longer buzzing fly that gave my crispy bacon that extra crunch. I also stayed hydrated through the water that was served to me from a designer tea pot that had amazing tea colouring and stains within in. Once I had consumed my meal I made sure to use the toilet facilities to rid my ablutions apart from the skid marks and the mixtures of cobwebs and urine the toilets were delightful. In all it was an unforgettable magical experience. Shamefully I am stuggling to give it 5 stars and there was a small chip in the plate my breakfast was served on. 4 stars.

On the way to Donkey sanctuary we thought it would be nice to stop off and get some fresh fruit for our daughter. I was desperate for a toilet as we arrived so when my husband was dealing with our daughter I walked in the cafe to ask where their toilets were. The lady said that I could use the toilet only if I buy something from the cafe. The place was literally empty. Wasn't accomodating and didn't seem to be happy at all to see a new potential customer walking in. Obviously we would have bought something but this put me off and we just left.

Just visited with my mum, auntie and brother. Judging by the great signage we thought we were in for an expensive trip of fresh farm produce. Oh how wrong we were, the site looked extremely aged and after reading on a sign that they were ‘not dropping any covid restrictions’ we proceeded to enter with our face masks on. There was a meat cleaver just placed on the side with what only I can describe as old and dusty I don’t even know what on it. Humongous cobwebs hanging from the ceiling just above the open refrigerated meat display (the meat wasn’t covered either) We were all delighted we were asked to wear masks as the hygiene of this place is absolutely shocking and should definitely be of food and hygiene safety concern. Avoid at all costs

After reading the reviews it appears someone has a multitude of excuses when a negative review appears, why do they need to do this. My review is my opinion, and my money will be spent elsewhere in future. My wife and I drove in, and from the outside, everything looked promising. Good signage and reasonable well landscaped approach. That was the positive bit. We had to place our order in the adjacent shop which appeared to be fairly run down. There was no menu or price list available, not a good sign. We ordered our coffee and food and went next door to the dining area. I can only say as I find, the general cleanliness can only describe as filthy. If we hadn’t already paid, we would have left. Our experience went from bad to worse. The coffees were served in a small paper cups, when we complained we were given a feeble excuse about covid restrictions and no dishwasher! The food came out from the kitchen and that was another disappointment. This place needs a visit from the people who issue hygiene ratings, its filthy and overpriced. Avoid at all cost, keep driving and find a roadside snack bar, it'll be cleaner.

Having been supplied by and knowing the family that own and run East Hill Pride it is upsetting to see the comments that they are receiving on this forum. Having a business in this sector I understand very well the demands and expectations of the public at large. What I do not understand is the total lack of empathy from the public as to how hard it is to not only make a living but to survive in the hospitality sector. Couple this with the catastrophic damage that the Covid 19 has had on our industry and still remains an ongoing threat, then clearly it is not a good place to be. A harder working family you will not find, they work hours that many most people cannot imagine. So before resorting to trashing the work of such genuine hard working people spare a thought for what they have to do on a daily basis. And if you should have an issue, why not give them or any other business in this trade to address the issues before resorting to spiteful and vitriolic comments on line.

We stopped off for coffee and my husband saw some bottled beer he hadn't had before and bought 3 or four bottles. All of them were bad. Only one had a best before date which was Aug 2020. Dred to think when the others went out of date. All were thrown down the sink. Lady wasn't at all friendly and would rather we hadn't have asked for coffee as it all seemed too much trouble for her. You could tell who the regulars were because her manner was completely different towards them. We were on holiday and the beer wasn't touched before we went home so we couldn't take it back. The place wasn't particularly clean either. The only thing going for the place is the views.

We drove past this place on a Sunday afternoon and noticed the sign they had for Devonshire cream tea, we decided to turn around and give it ago, BIG MISTAKE, once parked we headed to the shop section where you place your order, I noticed a 5 rating food hygiene sign in the window which I thought was a positive, we ordered 2 cream teas but asked if we could have Americano coffee with and pay the difference, when the food was ready they gave us 2 microwaved scones on 1 PLATE, they had cut the scones in half and covered them with butter, some sort of cream ( not clotted) and about a full jar of jam, and the coffees were lattes, we didn’t want to complain as it was our first time in Devon and we thought this is maybe the norm for cream tea, we had to ask for a knife to scrape the excess jam and cream off, as for the coffees they were poured away, we since have had cream teas at other establishments whilst in our trip and they have been fantastic. AVOID THIS PLACE. Oh and one other thing, going by appearance alone in the shop I very much doubt this place was awarded a 5 for hygiene.

Great views in a nice setting .... dropped in for a coffee after a long drive but sadly disspointed with the lack of hygene, The steam wand had old encrusted milk on it never have I seen one so bad. My cappuccino was made by frothing the milk with the dirty wand then adding the coffee then a spoonful of froth on top ... milk should always be added to the coffee not the other way around .. the steam wand should be kept very clean and steam run through it afterwards.... my job entails training people in the use of these coffee machines especialy hygene. My concern is regarding the level of hygiene. One person serving and doing the cooking. Had to wait to order whilst she cooked previous customers breakfasts. I saw no hand washing between roles. Further lots of used dirty dishes lying around even on a counter next to pack of uncooked bacon. Looking through to kitchen area everything seemed untidy and not cleaned to high standard ... staining to ovens etc. Have to order at farm shop counter.View from premises wonderful. The cafe area is a lovely building but unimaginative.

I've been buying the majority of my meat from East Hill Pride farm shop for years now and I can say with certainty that they offer the highest quality meat available in the area, not only that but it's at prices equal to and in some cases cheaper than the supermarkets. As someone who would rather eat less, but higher welfare animal products East Hill Farm is unbeatable. I was a farmer myself and I can see just from looking at the chickens that they are of a far superior quality than anything you'd get in the supermarkets, They are a different shape completely and that shape can only come from a longer life and a life spent outdoors! When I cook a Sunday lunch for my mother she says the chicken tastes like the chicken she used to have in her childhood. The beef and lamb are both of equally high quality. As for the hygiene concerns raised here I can only presume these have come from people unfamiliar with what a traditional butchers block is........Produce of this quality is such a rarity these days that all of us who are still wishing to consume animal products should be supporting these kind of small business that put welfare rather than profit first.

I’d driven past here quite a lot in the past and never thought of popping in. I decided to venture in and see what it was all about. The first thing that struck with was the glorious views and the quietness. There was also a gorgeous little park and lovely areas to sit outside so very nice to bring kids. I wanted to write a review, because I just felt like it could have such huge potential to be so much more. I was a little disappointed with the menu as it was limited. I was surprised there was no child’s menu considering there was a park there, as well as no option for freshly prepared sandwiches. These were provided in containers in the fridge, but nothing beats one that’s freshly prepared! I too also picked up on a general uncleanliness, and I noticed my tea cup was full of tea towel fluff and the tea pot felt greasy to the touch. I did feel the lady behind the counter could perhaps do with some help or someone who could work behind prepping food? It seems she did everything and was perhaps over worked? That was my impression, but she was by no means rude or unhelpful- just seemed tired. Also, I noticed pictures of awards received for the Business stuck above the doorway- maybe framing them and putting them pride of place somewhere? If I could give any advice it would be to seriously reconsider your menu. Its somewhere I could see myself coming more often if it just had a bit more choice. And maybe a decent coffee machine as the coffee wasn’t especially hot. Otherwise it a lovely peaceful spot, and had such huge potential. Put the pride into east hill pride. I want to clarify these comments are simply my opinion and by no means was my visit awful- just lacked in certain areas.

Can't speak for the cooked breakfasts or lunches, but a simple coffee and cake for the family proved too much it seems. 5 coffees individually produced from a machine took quite sometime although to be fair tasted okay. However 2 small previously baked fruit scones were taken from a chilled cabinet and warmed up in a microwave resulting in an inedible lump of rubber. At 10.15am all but 2 indoor tables were already cordoned off for Sunday lunches, so lucky the weather was fine enough to sit outside. The owners it seems need to seriously think about what and how they present something claiming to be a cafe/restaurant.

My friend and I visited as we drove past and thought wow that place must have amazing views... and on that point it doesn’t disappoint. We went into the small shop and the produce on offer looked good. We’d all but decided to eat there. Then we saw the mess behind the small counter which appeared to lead into the kitchen. Dirty articles of all sorts that started to put us off. We took a closer look at the shop and thought that wasn’t much better. Oh well it had decent views so maybe just a coffee. The lady who took our orders was a little stand-off ish and I felt like she didn’t want us there. Not very welcoming! But looking at her dirty attire this made our decision not to eat seem a good one. That may sound personal to other reviewers but I would hope that if you are serving and making food you should be clean and tidy. We took a seat in the lovely roomy tea room. Again the outlook and views were amazing. But the dead looking flowers and dead flies really put us off. The coffee didn’t improve our mood unfortunately. No froth on the cappuccino and it tasted a little like sour milk. Such a shame because it could be a lovely place. We won’t bother to visit again until I see some reviews that indicate a change in staff and a good clean up!

To say we were a little disappointed is an understatement. We saw the adverts in a local magazine so decided to call in for a coffee and cake, Firstly, first impression of stepping into the shop was very disorganised and when we ordered 2 cappuccino's which had no froth, also barely warm. There appeared to be no full menu of what was available in respect of cakes etc. Dead flies on the window sills, lacked cleanliness and tidiness. Did not feel welcome at all even though we were the only customers at the time. The views are amazing however, you can't run a business on views alone. Working in hospitality myself, I am often asked to recommend places for a nice coffee etc but on checking this place out, This will be be one venue I will not recommend to visitors to the Sidmouth area.

My husband I decided to talk a hike from Sidmouth through the Golf course, Mutters Moor and down to East Hill and stopped off at this little gem. They offer a carvery on the Sunday and it’s very reasonably priced. The food was lovely and the roast potatoes were amazing. They use lots of produce from the farm and local areas the quality of the meat and veg were really good. My only criticism is they use flour in their gravy and don’t offer a gluten free alternative. Our lunch was washed down with local apps juice from the farm shop. The views from the cafe are very picturesque. Having passed this farm shop a few times we decided to visit one afternoon for a cream tea. Upon walking into the otherwise deserted place we were 'welcomed' by a rather standoffish woman who didn't seem to want to serve us or even be there. Upon ordering we stood awkwardly in wait as she microwaved two suspiciously stale scones and began to pile on masses of margarine (?), jam, clotted cream. I mean MASSES. While working my first summer job at a nearby deli (whilst also being a completely work-inexperienced secondary school student) I was always taught to allow the customer to choose how much and how they want their toppings to cream tea themselves, as small dishes are fairly cheap and easy to use. And also to be polite and warm. Nope.
