We recently visited The Royal Oak pub with high hopes, as it’s conveniently located for us and we were excited to make it a regular spot. Unfortunately, our experience this evening fell short of expectations. The food was mediocre, (salad we asked to be served on the side didn’t materialise and the tuna mayonnaise jacket potato was mainly mayonnaise and not served with the crisps as stated in the menu). Everything lacked the flavours and quality we anticipated. Additionally, our drinks order was never brought to the table, which was disappointing. To add to our concerns, we noticed another couple refusing to eat their food and leaving shortly after it was delivered, citing that it wasn't up to standard. On a positive note, the atmosphere was pleasant, and it seems like a great place to relax with a pint. We would love to see some improvements in the food and service, as we’d really like to support a local establishment. Here’s hoping for a better experience next time.

Have stopped multiple times over the years for a quick pint while waiting for my connecting train But this time had to be my favourite The atmosphere and smiles I was met with when I entered quickly led me to joking and dancing and agreeing with the off duty member off staff about the music choice I'm ashamed i didn't catch the young black haird girls name who loves pitch perfect as well.as the short black hair male sat at the bar But you are both a credit to the business and will definitely be back

Brilliant stay at The Royal Inn, every member of staff was friendly and welcoming and the hotel is in a fantastic location. Arrived for a 4 night stay to be greeted by a lovely woman at reception who checked us in and showed us to our room. Location: The hotel is in an ideal location with Par station a 2 minute walk from the hotel door, you have a choice of shops and local takeaway to choose from all within a short walking distance of the hotel. The noise level was quiet at night and despite being next to a train station you rarely heard the trains. Parking is available but when the Inn is busy it can be lacking, we did not go a night without the car being in the car park though. Room: The room was generous in size and had an ensuite bathroom, although they did have a slightly dated feel as the lock required a key on both sides of the door, however this did not take anything away from the room itself. Rooms came with a large bed and sofa in addition to desk, tv, mini fridge, fan, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and wardrobe. The ensuite bathroom was a good size and came with a bath/shower combo in addition to small toiletries (shampoo, conditioner and soap) which was a nice little touch to the room. The only negative we found about the Inn was the cleanliness of our room, no major issues, just the odd dead fly on the windowsill and cobwebs in the bathroom. Food: Opting to pay the additional £20 for the breakfast option in the hotel and this did not disappoint, . We enjoyed a cooked breakfast everyday, with the meat being locally sourced. Continental options and cereal were also available. We also chose to eat in the hotel one evening and was impressed by the variety of main meal options and the quality of the food. In summary I recommend the Royal Inn Par and would definitely stay here again when visiting Cornwall.

I went for dinner as I had a lovely lunch earlier that day. Sadly dinner was a dissappointment. My 'special' meal was advertised with 'new potatoes and seasonal veg'. But what came was what I call winter veg - carrots, cauli, swede and reheated new potatoes. Not a green in sight. The food wasnt bad, but it was bland and tastless. So it was not as described.

The Royal Inn and Hotel is almost opposite Par Railway Station and is a very convenient location to use as a base for exploring Par Beach, Polkerris, Fowey, Charleston & Mevagissey which are all nearby, but this Review is a real mixed bag. The Royal Inn is also close to the Eden Project if you like that sort of thing, and has a Car Park which is flanked by a row of covered COVID Booths. We booked as a Couple but luckily a very large and comfortable Family Room was allocated to us. The Bathroom and its Shower were good with lots of hot water at high pressure, but it could really do with a deep clean to tackle the corners and under the pipes. Our King-sized bed was extremely comfortable. The window-cill and net curtain in our room was covered in cobwebs and dead flies, but the rest of the room was clean enough and was Serviced daily. The light and well ventilated Restaurant has a nice relaxed atmosphere, with friendly and attentive Service. The standard Pub Food is reasonably priced, and served hot in generous portions. Every dish appears to arrive with a side-salad, even the Fish & Chips! There are a couple of areas they could improve. The Dessert Menu seems to be aimed more at Young Families and has little to appeal to we Older Folk. For us the Bar Offering was poor, with obscure Sharp's Brewery Beers such as the imitation "Spanish" Madri Lager, actually brewed in Burton on Trent. A wider appeal to guests might be achieved by adding a top class well-known lager such as Stella, and a good bottled Medium Cider. Luckily for me they had "Doom Bar" available with an additional Guest Beer. If you want Toast or Croissant with breakfast you have to ask for them. Other lighter Continental Options weren't available Both Large and Small English Breakfasts are offered, also Bacon or Sausage Sandwiches amongst others. Evenings at the Inn were mostly quiet with Meals only available from 6 - 8pm. On one occasion we had a minor issue with our room and the Barman dropped what he was doing and fixed it immediately, now that's what I call good Customer Service!

Walked up to the bar and tried to get as close to it as I could but there were people sat at every space of the bar itself - which is something I find annoying, as it doesn’t make it easy to order. There were just 3 of us and we stayed for one and left straight after, as it almost felt as if we shouldn’t be there as we weren’t locals to the pub… it had that kind of feel. The place itself was very nice; clean, tidy, spacious and presentable. The beer was good too. Lots of outdoor seating, which we would have made use of, if it wasn’t cold/windy. It seemed to be dog friendly too, which is handy for people to know. Perhaps it was an “off” day. Who knows. Might try again in the future.

Terrible from start to finish. Kid's burger came out raw in the middle. Minestrone soup was like tinned spaghetti without any accompanying liquid. Waitress service was indifferent; one came out to take a drinks order but then I gave up waiting after half an hour and just ordered our mains at the bar. Avoid at all costs.

Four longstanding friends went to The Royal for lunch on Christmas Day. The food was absolutely wonderful and we managed - with care! - to cope with starter, fish, sorbet, main course, dessert ........ all topped off with coffee and mince pies. There was a good variety of vegetables with the main course. Thankfully we had paced ourselves! Everything was absolutely delicious. The main course portions, however, were very large and we saw quite a few plates returning to the kitchen with potatoes and/or Yorkshire puddings still on them. The chef, Kevin, had pulled out all the stops to provide a fantastic meal and catered for individual tastes and requests without any bother. All in all, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The banter with Tim, the waiter, was better than any comedy show and had us in fits of laughter much of the time. Compared to other restaurants which were open on Christmas Day, the price was extremely reasonable and the food terrific value. We are already hoping that the restaurant opens on Christmas Day 2022 and are determined to be there.

The menu at The Royal Inn is your basic everyday food but, having said that, what we had to eat was absolutely lovely. We ate here two night. We both had the chili con carne one night, and the second night I had sausages and mash and my husband had the lasagne. All these dishes were lovely and we would definitely eat here again if we return to the area in the future.

Booked at short notice and they had a table, should have been a warning sign! Shown to a table in the restaurant which had chandeliers and table cloths but a pub grub menu. No dietary labels on the menu and staff couldn't answer questions about allergens. When we asked to change a drink (unopened) because we were given a can of Pepsi instead of Coke the request was dealt with but staff didn't seem happy about it. Food adequate but not the best, definitely visited much better pubs in the week. Asked for the bill which was brought but then left for 20 mins until I called someone back only to be told the machine didn't work in the restaurant and I'd have to pay at the bar.

Love this sprawling Inn, 3mins walk from connecting par rail station . Ample parking. Flat Disabled access to restaurant from car park....with ramp to front for separate bar entry. Bar area has large TV, showing formula one as it happens and a pool table. Very welcoming, helpful and approachable staff. Dogs in all areas(leads) except restaurant, which had exquisite layout with snow white tablecloths, Royal blue overlays, flowers, wine Glasses, gleaming cutlery etc. Liked the lighthouse picture theme on well decorated walls in a light airy, high-ceiling room. Sunday carvery, could not fault it. Regular plate at £9. I had Beef/Turkey. It was moist and lots of it. Same with husbands pork. Five veggies, cauliflower cheese, plus roasties and yorkshires. All hot with great gravy and appropriate sauces. We were checked on by attentive staff who were very friendly. Outside area with tables, chairs and pergola, must have been very pretty in height of summer. The Royal also has rooms to let. I cannot comment as did not use. It poured down on our visit, but inside certainly made up for that.

Price was reasonable in comparison to other accommodation but still felt too expensive for what we had. Decent size room but quite dated. All staff were really friendly and helpful. Online information showed the restaurant menu and this was also given as a paper copy in the room, but they were only serving the bar menu in the restaurant, which was really disappointing. Apparently the paper copies should have been taken out of all the rooms as the bar menu was all they now serve. There was only one girl serving an entire full restaurant as well as the bar. Hence there was a massive wait for food, not her fault though. Breakfast was ok.

After a long drive for a long weekend / short break we unpacked and set off from the caravan site with our two dogs in search of some food and a well earned drink! We came across the Royal inn that allowed dogs into the bar area where you can order food with plenty of seating ( Dogs not allowed in the restaurant part) We found a table in the bar area and grabbed a couple drinks and what a great service it was from the very kind helpful staff.I ordered a lamb shank which was absolutely beautiful and lamb was so tender this came on a bed of mash with vegetables and mint gravy. My partner who's a vegetarian had a stunning omelette which came with beautiful chips and a tasty side salad. My mother inlaw decided on the fish & chips and Wow! the batter covered the fish perfectly., (the chips are chunky and so tasty i did nick a couple of chips )So feeling very full there was no room for dessert!!On our way out with the dogs we noticed a sign up saying Sunday Carvery! Hmm we must return!Sunday arrives and we are on the Carvery walk to the Royal Inn.All I can say is Wow what a great selection of meat & Veg, beautiful cooked. If you visit Par in Cornwall with or without your 4 legged friends then I would strongly recommend the Royal for some beautiful food.(please remember that you can take your 4 legged friend into the bar area where you can order food with plenty of seating but not into the restaurant)

Visited for lunch with my elderly, disabled father, parked in the disabled space as he cannot walk any distance. Then had to walk through the restaurant, down several steps to get to the bar. How he managed it I don’t know!! . Even walking from the carpark to the front entrance would have been a struggle. Surely the disabled spaces should be near the most suitable entrance? The place was very quiet with only a few guys drinking at the bar. Ordered our food, then sat + waited 45 minutes for it to arrive. Eventually 2 meals arrived + had to wait another 10 mins for the 3rd as it was still cooking!! Why not all together? Apparently the chef was off!!! So the manager was “doing the best he could”. Not really a good excuse! The food was obviously warmed up from when the chef had prepared it beforehand. The chips were hard on the inside + the peas could have been bullets! The food was served on a small plate to make it look more when it works be better presented on a bigger plate. The ambiance was awful, no atmosphere at all. Would not recommend or return here.

Wednesday 19 June 19, We all went for dinner at ‘The Royal Hotel’ in Par. My husband and I had stayed there four years ago and the food in the restaurant had been excellent. We had booked a table for 8.00 pm. The restaurant was very light and airy and was done out in pine wood with black upholstered chairs and the tables were set with silver cutlery. We were seated at a nice table for four and we were given menus to look at. We decided not bother with starters as we were saving ourselves for the main meal.My husband, Dave and Jill had the lamb shank served with cabbage, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and mash and served with nice rich gravy, which they all said the lamb just melted in the mouth and they really enjoyed their meals. I had the ‘Trio’ of fish (Hake, Cod & Salmon) served with a hollandaise sauce and served with cabbage, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and new potatoes for my main course, which was really delicious. We washed all this lovely food down with ‘Doombar’ bitter for my husband and Dave, a large glass of coke for Jill and a large glass of rose wine for me. We all had desserts afterwards; Davie had a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. Jill had sticky toffee pudding with creamy custard. My husband had the lemon meringue pie with vanilla ice cream. I had the chocolate orange gateaux served with pouring cream, which was really delicious. We did not bother with teas or coffees afterwards as we were all very full.If you want a nice place that serves excellent food, then this place is well worth visiting if you are in the area.

Mindre kul men ok. Personalen trevlig.

We have just moved to Par and are slowly trying the local pubs and cafes. I was so glad we stopped in at the Royal for a lovely meal! The bar and restaurant were very clean and. I Ely decorated. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was lovely and reasonably priced. My husband had a burger which was obviously from a local supplier or butcher because it melted in your mouth. I wasn't very hungry so just had a soup but it was very tasty and was obviously home made. All in all a lovely visit and we will be back. 5Thabks for a nice evening!

Not a good place to eat, no care taken, my wife asked for a glass of coke and was given a pint, either the staff are untrained or do not care

Some friends and I came here for a roast one Sunday. I wasnt expecting much as many pubs in the area never live up to much. I was pleasantly surprised! Roast was smashing.

Heading to Cornwall and fortunate enough to find this Pub/B&B... stunning location. Enjoyed dinner in the pub, enormous serves of quality food.On arrival (we didn't have a booking) we were greeted by the most hospitable and charming lady by the name of "Kate" who could not do enough for us, nothing was too much trouble and all done with a smile....Full English included in price of room, best sleep and ready to face the road again

Two of us had dinner here tonight. One battered cod with chips and mushy peas, one baked potato with chilli con carne. The good news: portion sizes were great, and it arrived pretty quickly. The less good: The fish (was it REALLY cod? shaped like haddock...) was overcooked and the batter really quite greasy. Peas OK. Chips overcooked and dripping in oil - I think this is a sign of their fryer not being hot enough, but whatever the reason, they weren't edible. Nobody came to ask how our meal was, so I just ate the fish inside the batter and the peas, and left the chips and the batter. The chilli con carne: more like slightly-spicy mince with some kidney beans in it. Very little flavour. Big salad (nice), huge pile of very mayonnaisey coleslaw. Overall it looked great and tasted very average. Disappointing overall, and when on leaving we told the waitress that the chips were too greasy to eat, she just said "OK I'll pass that on" - no threat of apology or making amends. Overall it's a great shame as the pub has a nice feel and very tasty beer, so could be so much better if they had a chef who know how to do the very basics better. Also the rooms are modern and very pleasant - they're great value. So do stay here, just don't have dinner here.

What a wonderful Inn, Brilliant surroundings....Greeted by a Friendly member of staff when we entered the main bar were there was a lovely log fire warming the bar just nicely. We had booked a table for four people was given the choice of where we could sit, We choose the Conservatory, Which was laid out very well, after we choose our table Louise came and gave us the menu told us about the special of the day. Then took our order for drinks.......She took our order for the food..... Our friends had The Seafood Platter for two.....Which I must point out is a massive plateful more than enough for two people, Well presented, very good portions of all seafood at a very good price..... My wife & myself had the 10oz Gammon which again was a very well presented and very good portion, The food is cooked to order and well worth the wait...... This establishment is for all types of visits, Couples, Family, Friends, Business & Solo & It is Pet friendly. Very good for Large groups.......I most certainly will be visiting again very soon......Excellent Food, Excellent Value, Very friendly staff, 10/10 from me..Thank you Louise.......

We have done the Rail Ale Trail for years now and this is the first pub we have ever been who wouldn't stamp our sheet without drinking Ale! It literally is a choice of us spending lots of money in her pub with her stamping out sheep so we can get a free thief at the end of the crawl! She lost lots of money because of this!We complained to the local saying it's crazy and they say she is always sucking lemons!!! So disappointed! If you own a business you need to chill out and accept change to make money! Your loss at the end of day, we are happy in the next pubs who were much more accommodating!!!!!

My wife and I stayed at the Royal Inn for four nights whilst helping my sister to move house on 21st November. The bedroom ( We had No 1) was clean and comfortable and most of all quite. The double bed was huge in our room and made for a good nights sleep. We ate in the restaurant every night we were there and found the menu varied and all that we ordered was very tasty. The breakfast served from 8.00 am was excellent. We would definitely stay there again.

Everything was handled so well for our birthday meal I thought I'd review. All aspects of catering for 21 persons were handled extremely well. The food came out on time all together and piping hot. The food was excellent quality and seemed in general all home cooked and nothing straight from the freezer. Excellent portion sizes enough even for the big eater. Each couple individually paid for their meal at the end which worked well and therefore no had to pay more than due. First class thank you Teresa and Matt and the team.

Was staying in the hotel and ate in the restaurant. The menu was ideal for me, good choices, reasonably priced. They even cater for slimming world members with a section of the menu dedicated to this, nice touch. The portions were huge and the service was friendly and efficient. All in all a great experience.

We called into The Royal Inn tonight and had a drink while we waited a few minutes as food wasn't served until 6.30 pm and it was only 6.20. We were happy with this as we were in no hurry. Unfortunately it was anything but worth the wait. I ordered a gammon steak with egg and pineapple( £1.00 extra for the egg). When it arrived the waitress failed to warn us about the plates being hot. She just dumped the plates on the table and left. The egg was like rubber with a tough frilly bottom. I managed to cut one mouthful of the gammon but it was so overcooked that I was unable to cut anymore. I just ate the chips, mushrooms and peas. When my husband went to pay Kate took the payment but didn't have anything to say (probably because she was afraid she might lose her gum she was so busy chewing. As she hadn't thought to ask if everything was ok with our meal my husband suggested the chef might learn to cook a gammon properly but was met with a shrug and Do I look like I care response. We won't be returning.

Visited on Sunday evening for dinner. I was a bit concerned after reading a few reviews about slow service, but our meal was served promptly and the service from the staff was excellent. There was a good selection of meals on the menu and reasonably priced. The dining area in this pub is very comfortable. There was ample parking.

We only arrived at this pub after trying one or two others and were unable to get tables. The food on offer was good and service was reasonable but it was a little noisy for us two oldies I'm afraid. Good if you're younger than 60+.

A lovely place too stay. Staff were all friendly and helpful. The room was large, clean and very well presented with lovely heavy oak furniture. Being rather tired from a day at the Eden project (which was very close by) we opted to eat in and we were glad we did. The food was really nice (especially the chips) and the portions were large and all was freshly prepared. Breakfast was great too with all the usual options including kippers. Great place and great VFM. We will return for sure.

We used to love popping in here when we were in Truro, you would be lucky to get a seat but now it’s take your pick. In a nutshell the place has lost its soul.

Festive Afternoon Tea this afternoon was very disappointing. It is clearly a stop gap to keep income trickling in between Sunday lunch and evening dinner service. The biggest issue is with the service, very inattentive, unconcerned staff not in the slightest bit interested in providing a professional level of attention. The afternoon tea was acceptable but not exactly delightful let alone memorable or to be recommend to others. Delightful setting with the hotel beautifully appointed and well decorated for Christmas, just a pity the staff were not switched on at all. Management at fault and it would appear no investment made in staff training.
