Dropped in last night to be greeted by a super friendly bar man. The pizza’s are incredible and their delicious Sunday roasts are now back in the menu. With an unbeatable location and stellar service it’s our favourite spot.....

We booked in to come here on our first night of arriving in Praa Sands - I thought the place was a little run down and catered more for the day surfers. I appreciate things are a little difficult at the moment, but when we ordered starters and our main meals via the app and all the food arrived together - it was a bit daft! Apparently, we should have ticked a box to say one was a starter, but we thought it was obvious by the description - hey ho.Food was ok, good selection - nothing special.

Whilst visiting the beautiful Praa Sands on several occasions over our short stay in Cornwall, we found The Sandbar to be a great place for hot and cold drinks and snack food and light bites. The staff were very friendly and helpful and were tolerant also of our two young dogs. The magnificent views and perfect weather made our visits all the more enjoyable. Highly recommended.

We’ve been staying at the local holiday park and came across this place when walking along the beach. Was slightly apprehensive about coming here though after reading such bad reviews but thought we should give it a go for ourselves. It was honestly lovely from start to finish. All staff we encountered were friendly and attentive, our drinks came within two minutes of ordering and food shortly after. Yes drinks were slightly expensive ( £5.20 a pint) but this is a normal price for a lovely location looking over the beach and ocean so it was to be expected really and worth it. Would definitely come back (we plan to) and recommend.

Don’t know what the other reviews are talking about. You have to take the Sandbar for what it is, a bar by the beach with good honest food & fantastic views and some sand on the floor! If you want more upmarket...go to st ives. We come here every year and it’s non-pretentious and a lovely place to chill. I had the burger tonight which was gorgeous...can’t stand compressed burgers. This was really tasty & I thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband had a pizza which was equally as good. What stood out for me was the service. They are obviously lower on staff and they now have so much more to do for the same money during Covid. Don’t forget that guys...they are there working with a mask on for their probably approximately 8 hour shift, it’s not normal so don’t forget that and remember they are serving us so we can have a good time...Shame on you that are rude to them. The girls who were working tonight worked incredibly hard and with a smile on their faces the whole time, so thank you, we had a lovely night.

Terrible management changes on a daily basis 3 visits this week well 2 as we walked out on the last visit first visit food ok chefs working hard although we ordered at the table and and payed at the end we seen others being told to pay for drinks separately and food at the end very confusing plus being told if you want to go the toilet you have to wear a mask but not so at the table Second visit walked to the bar and ordered drinks at the bar no issues all be it was very quite for a beach side bar and there didn’t seem to be anyone cleaning the tables as there where dirty glasses and plates on most of the tables Third visit and last. Signed in put mask on was told we had to download the app to order I told the manager that half the stuff isn’t there on the app and could we just order drinks at the bar as we had done previously to told no we are not allowed explained we had done so before to again be told no you can’t do that here asked again for full fat coke as that isn’t on the app to be told if it’s not on app we don’t sell it all though we had full fat coke the other day when we were allowed to go to bar and order then she replied we don’t have coke here the delivery hasn’t come completely rude and incompetent manager to turn away customers on a very quite Friday lunch If you hear the Reviews being given I don’t think you will be here next year sort your Managment out awaiting the rude response back

This is the only cafe/bar currently open on Praa sands. Coffee was very good and tasty, but was perhaps a little pricey, maybe because of the good quality. They took extra care to let us know that the sprinkles were dairy free too. The decor could do with a revamp to make it more tasteful and modern. It doesn't embody the Cornish chic you see in other places. Service was ok. To be honest, the replies to negative TripAdvisor reviews put us off a little as the tone leaves a lot to be desired: objection/complaint handling training could help. However, they weren't rude to us in person. The only real qualm here is having to wear a mask in the bar itself. You don't have to wear one to sit down but you have to wear it to go to the loo. This is the only place I've seen do this within the UK. I understand it's to protect people but some of the staff weren't wearing their masks over their noses. Nobody asked if we had a reason for being exempt and the tone in which we were approached about wearing a mask was quite blunt. As someone who works in hospitality and customer service, work could be done to make customers feel more welcome. However on the whole, the experience was ok.

Lovely view from the outside and indoor terrace. Just a shame the service was very slow considering that people only ordering drinks when we arrived and eight tables sat at - after 15 mm in of waiting as table service flagged down a waitress then a further 25 min wait for one tea and a hit chocolate. If it wasn't such a great spot to sit in the sun we would have left earlier

Today we had a lovely day on the beach and decided to grab some food at the Sandbar. 3 adults and a 4 yr old. We arrived and were seated fairly quickly at a table with an amazing view. Small fell asleep so we had a beer using the app (which was very easy to use) - full range of draught beers, and later had a lovely meal. Childs portion was good and well cooked, our meals were lovely, service was good, prices reasonable and staff helpful and friendly. You do need to wear a mask when moving about the restaurant but that is not uncommon and not an issue due to current Covid regs. Will definitely go back and eat again. Thanks guys, you were great.

We came here on sept 1 for dinner. The service was very slow. We came on 2 sept for morning coffee and a drink in the evening. Again, incredibly slow service. Regarding our evening dinner, the vegetarian pizza says it has goats cheese on it. When it arrived it clearly did not have goats cheese on it but mozarella. This could prove horrible for those with specific allergies. They offered me a free desert which i accepted. She said she would change the menu but this is not the case so far. When we were given menus this evening (we considered havibg dinner here again but decided against it as they just ignored us for ages) no mention was made about the vegetarian pizza. There are no other restaurants or cafes around so they have no competitors for those of us at the local campsite. Not good.

Ate here whilst staying at holiday park down the road. We had pre-booked, but weren't told when booking, that we would need masks. Totally understand why they are doing this, but need to make it clear when booking as we felt quite unwelcome to start with. Food was mediocre and expensive. The kids portions are tiny. The Mediterranean Linguine was £12.50 (if I remember correctly) and was a bowl of pasta with some roasted veg thrown in with a sad looking side salad. The cost simply does not reflect the food served. We felt unable to use the loos as they were filthy. The sinks in ladies were full of wet loo paper. Really unhygienic considering their concern over using masks within the restaurant. Such a shame as it's a lovely location with a fabulous view.

However we chose to eat here 3 times.A great range of beers, ales and spirits and a great menu. The food was amazing, my daughter who rarely eats food other than pasta, finished off the sea bream. I had a coffee my first visit and the blend was super. You are met on arrival and their covid 19 measures make you feel safe there is no service from the bar and clearly they are sticking to government guidelines, unlike other places we visited. We felt welcome in beach wear or dressed up the staff are efficient and service was excellant, considering the new normal w now live in. The best bit was the view... We wanted a drink on the terrace but the young girl at the entrance was insistent that we wear a mask to walk through the bar area to get there, where we could then take it off. She was adamant this was because of new government guidelines. Her unfriendly manner didn't encourage us to ask for further explanation. We hadn't been asked to do this at any other bar/restaurant we had visited before or since. Indeed, upon googling the government guidelines I was unable to see exactly where it states that what the Sandbar was demanding is actually the case. Presumably that is why no other establishment is doing it. Had I read earlier reviews on this matter I could have saved myself a trip and visited somewhere much more friendly and welcoming, which is exactly what we then proceeded to do.

My partner who is disabled was called rude and asked to leave as he is medically excerpt from wearing a mask. Even after me explaining his medically exempt. She then proceeded to give my child dirty looks. I explained that her behaviour was shockingly bad and that she shouldn’t be behaving and treating people the way she is , I then asked to speak to her manager and she shouted she is the manager and the owner. How can someone own a beach side bar and restaurant have so little people skills and such bad manners is beyond me. I explained that that I would be leaving a review and her face suddenly changed and had the audacity to call me opinionated white b***c. Went into the Sandbar in the morning due to poor weather. Ordered two coffee's and two drinks for the kids. Waited 15 minutes for these with only 3 or 4 other tables with people on. When it came one coffee was missing. Took another 10 minutes for that to arrive.Ordered a bacon sandwich and sausage sandwich for the kids. When it eventually came my daughter started to eat the sausage sandwich and I saw her picking something out of the sandwich. Was small bits of blue plastic. On closer inspection the sausage had blue plastic inside really really bad. I mean that is a major problem. I spoke to the girl serving us she took it away and said it would be replaced. 20 minutes later still no sausage sandwich. Considering this was a major health and safety issue their conduct was well under what I expected. At no point did a manager come to speak to us. Think twice people.Check your food. The table was dirty and there was no soap in the toilets. Unbelievable in the current situation yet when I pointed this out the member of staff ignored what I had said and just told me to wear a mask when going to the toilet. They are obsessed with customers wearing masks unless they are actually sitting at their tables but don’t seem to observe basic hygiene standards, which makes me think they are only concerned about themselves as staff rather than the customers.Luckily we left before ordering food after realising the place was filthy.

Rude and unwelcoming staff and hopeless organisation. If this wasn’t the only place to eat in or get takeaways they would be empty. Praa Sands deserves a really good and welcoming restaurant. It doesn’t help that they sharply rebuke you for not wearing masks when entering the restaurant even though it’s not necessary when eating in. Their answer is it has to be done as it’s also a takeaway. No they don’t ! They should see what other places are doing and check the gov website . Give this a big miss and take a picnic

There were four of us eating and we all enjoyed our food. The fish and chips were excellent, but at £14 it was on the expensive side. A meal for four cost over £40 with two children's meals and drinks. Nice view, obviously as it is right on the sea front, but for the price you expect a little more. Can't in knock the staff, who were friendly enough, but the general feeling was, this is an expensive pub meal, rather than a restaurant.

We had a pack of wipes so did it ourselves. We lost track of how long we waited for our drinks!!! When they did arrive the coffee was missing , when i asked one of the girls after at least 25 minutes, there was no apology she just said there has been a hold up at the bar! Also there was no soap in the loo and no toilet roll!!! This is unacceptable, given the current situation. We would NEVER go back, which is a shame because it has so much potential. Here's what you could have won - Wonderful location - beautiful sunset - opportunity to present lovely local home made food. What we got was really slow service - we almost left as took nearly 30 mins to get drinks served and wasn't busy - couldn't understand how the team operated - especially compared to coach and horses nearby. Regrettably didn't leave before food - was late and figured we'd struggle to get anything elsewhere. Food was less than average and (apologies if it was home cooked) but pretty much seemed to come processed out of a box / bag - wouldn't be too bad in other circumstances but it wasn't nice and blimen expensive. ( i didn't even finish my meal).I don't like to pick out specific people - there as a couple of pleasant youngsters trying their best and clearly new - but there didn't seem to be any leadership. Odd thing where you have to pay for drinks as you go - even though its a restaurant or at least charging restaurant prices) - also meant staff tied up constantly going back and forth collecting payment.Dirty plates left on tables for ages - had to constantly chase drinks (we got to point of ordering next round when one arrived as it seemed to take so long) Lastly (and most shamefully) i expect some of the above will be blamed on Covid but the toilets where filthy and didn't have any soap.Left feeling ripped off and disappointed which is a shame for such a great potential.

Visited whilst away on holiday , with my parents and my daughter. I had checked on the website before we went , I’m almost convinced that they were not the same place! One of the waitresses came to take a drinks order and I asked about the cocktails , to be told they weren’t serving them at the moment , which is understandable. But roughly 20 minutes later and a round of cocktails was being made for some other guests .The food was actually very nice and the portions are large BUT considering the state of the place and the absolute lack of service , I would consider it expensive. A container of ketchup was dropped on the floor right in the middle of the dining room and no less than 4 people walked right over it , before dumping some blue roll on it and swiping it around the floor! Find it a bit of an insult being asked to sanitise hands on the way in , when the toilets looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in a month and the floor was covered in food. In short , if being ignored until it comes to paying 80 quid for a meal for 4 and sitting in dirty surroundings is your thing , then this is the place for you.

Nut roast came with a great veggie gravy and the plates were groaning when we took them back to the table. Excellent pint of Tribute as well made for a perfect Sunday lunch!

Stopped off for coffees one morning. First impression on entering was that the whole place needs a good clean. I’m not just talking about it being sandy - you expect that with a beach bar. Counter tops, table tops, chairs, floors, walls, windows all grubby. Took ages for anyone to serve me at the bar - staff were too busy talking to each other to be bothered by a customer. Coffees were ok but we’ll not be going back even though it is in a great spot on the beautiful Praa Sands beach. Guys - get cleaned up and get your act together because right now it feels as if you’re taking the p**s!! Not recommended!

Really busy when we came so were told there would be a wait on the food. They sadly couldn’t serve carverys as they were so busy but we found dishes on the normal menu that we liked. We placed our orders and sat outside watching the ocean. After just under an hour our food arrived and it was delicious, all 4 of us loved it. It’s a great atmosphere with live music inside and an amazing view of the ocean. Coming back very soon as we normally come down for the delicious carvery.

Haven't been there for a while but surprisingly its gone downhill. We always sit and have a brew by the window overlooking the beach. This visit the windows were filthy on the inside, I used a napkin to clean mine and probably hadn't been cleaned for weeks at the state of them. This is surprising as prices are high there £4.70 for a pint. Also floor was filthy too. It had just opened and I would expect the manager to look around and check? Sorry sand bar...you are losing your grip on hygiene

When you find a bar/restaurant in a spot like this you expect to pay a little more for the location. Having said that this place is very populat and it is now getting to look tired and with all the new and renovated properties in Praa its time for some refurberation to keep us coming back. Food very good drinks on the pricey side.

Visited for lunch with my sister twice this last week. A bit rough around the edges but a good place to go either alone as a lady on her own or sisters dining together. Good value. Wonderful views.

Lovely setting, food looks good. BUT the place is so run down, it needs a total refurb and it’s also very, very pricey for food and drink. £5.10 for a pint of rattlers cider and 12.95 for a vegetarian tart is unacceptable. Thought I’d been transported to central London

We came first evening of our holiday and had fish n chips. Seemed a funny old place but staff were friendly. Fish n chips were nice enough and maybe I’m just a bit tight. Views were fab and in the summer might be a fab place to enjoy a few drinks. Venue seems a bit tired inside and out.

The service was great from the minute we walked in. We had a fantastic view of the sea from our table. You had a choice of size of roast - 2, 3 or 4 meats. Very good value. The quality of the food was excellent. Would highly recommend.

Decided to give this a try for some late lunch. Sun came out and we sat outside. Protected by the glass surround from the wind. Service and food generally good although scampi my wife ordered was raw inside. But they cooked a new meal and replaced whole dish. Plus have us a round on the house. So not to be taken as a common occurrence.

Excellent view but overpriced. £5 per glass of wine is steep in anyone's book. Chairs are uncomfortable and service is bordering on being indifferent. Better priced bars with stunning views elsewhere on this coastline.

Been here several times and it makes for a relaxing place to chill with wonderful views of the beach and sea. Service is okay. Drinks are expensive and food is very average. Loos pretty dire. Place needs redecorating and a clean up. Great floorboards but windows mouldy. But it has a captive audience. Better to bring a picnic. Car park a bit a way along the coastal path is free but just a few spaces. Other than that you pay of course. Fantastic beach

We visited the sandbar for my husbands birthday with my 11 month old daughter, we sat outside and enjoyed the amazing view with our lunch however this was quickly spoilt by smokers. I would not advise to not get visit the sandbar If you do not agree with having smokers near you whilst you eat and drink and particularly if you do not like it around your children. I tried to speak to the manager about this over several occasions but no luck prevailed.. maybe someone else might have some luck!

For the prices charged I would have expected table service, the bar staff didn’t seem to want to do much so you had to go to the bar to order and to get more drinks mid meal wasn’t the best.

Booked a table for the evening for a special occasion 16 people, was shown to table however nobody explained you have to order and pay upfront at the bar, after waiting for a while found this out for ourselves. The Menu advertised on the website does not match the menu offered on the evening, less than half of the options . Also disappointing. I mentioned this to a member of staff and her response was that’s the old menu. Food was okay and did arrive hot. But for the price expected better. After starters and mains we went to order desserts and was informed the kitchen was closed . As we were the only table dining would of been nice to of informed us the kitchen was closing. Customer care/ service and communication really needs work. You really are paying for the destination. Such a shame as it has so much potential.

Great location with excellent views accross Praa Sands. Typical bar menu but reasonably priced and good quality. We visited 3/4 times over our week in the area. Bit disappointing that the outside seating area was left with tables stacked with dirty plares and rubbish blowing around frim there diwn to the beach. The bar/reastaurant wasn't busy and seemed to have enough staff that should of been efficient to clear the tables.

My family and I went here for a Sunday carvery. There was an excellent selection of good quality meats and fresh vetables to choose from. Great roast potatoes and homemade Yorkshire puddings. Every thing was cooked very well and the service was good. Overall a lovely Sunday roast. The only downside was the live music as it was loud and we could not hear what each other was saying.

I have been here several times and have never been let down. I had a chicken, bacon and chicken ciabatta, my friend had fish cakes, both accompanied by a side salad. Dessert was a tangy lemon tart and a vanilla cheesecake with fruit compote. Really good quality food, great staff and the best scenery one could ask for.

My friend and I wanted to go for a simple drink @ the “Sandbar” Praa sands. I asked the young boy at the bar for a cup of coffee and coke and paid, a can of coke was placed on the bar, I said to the boy where is the glass for the coke? He said you have to ask for one, unusual I thought but never mind, he then gave me a filthy glass with lip marks around the glass rim, I said have you got a clean glass, please? He said “no they are all like that” but gave me another filthy glass, so I decided to just drink out of the can. We sat outside and waited for the ordered coffee and after 15 minutes we decided to get a refund as other people that had sat down after us were getting their coffee. I asked the boy could I have a refund as we have waited to long and have to leave, he shrugged his shoulders and said you “will have to ask someone on the bar” there was no one on the bar. Eventually, a nice young lady came and asked me how can I help? I explained and she apologized and gave me a refund whilst the boy who was standing behind her was smirking and smiling at me. My question is how Is it possible that a member of staff can have such a crass attitude and maintain a job? I have been frequenting the “ Welloe Rock” or “Sandbar” as it is now known for 39 years, it has gone down hill tremendously! And after glancing around the place I could see it was in need of a deep clean, as well as some staff that could actually do the very simple job of serving and dealing with customers with some intelligence and sensitivity.

We have been visiting the Sandbar since 2011 staying in Praa Sands on holiday at least twice a year when we looked forward to having good food and coffee almost everyday. The staff were superb and so friendly. We are so disappointed to see how the place has changed for the worse! Staff miserable and on one occasion one of the young female staff lay down on a settee whilst her colleague was laughing and joking ignoring customers waiting to be served at the bar. We were also told we were too late for food at 5.15pm despite being told earlier that day that food was served until 6pm! Didn’t stay for a drink and went elsewhere. Hope it improves soon as it is in a lovely spot.

Stayed in Praa for the week and went in the sandbar three times and have to say it was ok but if the staff had just been happy and welcoming would have made such a difference! Miserable and very unhelpful. Food was ok, but for kids great. On the first night they served a Tarquinius gin in half a pint glass with no ice and as we were about to order food they said they’d just finished! Even though they’d poured our drinks! Basically don’t expect and customer service!

Been twice over a week stay and both times food was good but the service was mediocre at best! Tarquin’s gin and tonic served in a half pint glass with no ice or fruit?!?! Couldn’t mess up a rattler but a smile from the staff would of been nice! We felt like an inconvenience rather than paying customers. Hate to moan but the location is great just needs sorting out.

For a spot of lunch, my wife and two children decided to eat here. Never again. We settled on the beef style kebabs (on a skewer). With rice. The beef was tough, tastless, rough and badly cooked. I was a butcher, I should know! Rice was microwaved but still undercooked! The salad that came with it was soggy, rotten and floppy. The best part of the meal was the kids fish goujons. We spent 70 quid (including drinks) on some of the worst food I've eaten.

Festive Afternoon Tea this afternoon was very disappointing. It is clearly a stop gap to keep income trickling in between Sunday lunch and evening dinner service. The biggest issue is with the service, very inattentive, unconcerned staff not in the slightest bit interested in providing a professional level of attention. The afternoon tea was acceptable but not exactly delightful let alone memorable or to be recommend to others. Delightful setting with the hotel beautifully appointed and well decorated for Christmas, just a pity the staff were not switched on at all. Management at fault and it would appear no investment made in staff training.

We visited several times over our week in town. This place has amazing food and despite some of the reviews saying otherwise we found the service friendly and efficient. Everything is cooked fresh to order so there is going to be a wait during busy times. I had the poached eggs and avocado on granary ( several times) an amazing goats cheese salad , waffles and coffee that were both delicious. We also called for drinks too and love the fact you can watch the world go by as you sit outside. We will be back next time we are in Cornwall .
