Really good full Cornish. Generous portions. The bacon was griddled so tasty and not greasy, Harvey's sausages are ways peppery perfect. Would've like a hot plate and homemade beans rather than tinned. Will defo go back. The decaf coffee was dreadful though!

Lovely location right on the beach with great views and good access to the beach. The young lady at the bar had her serious face on throughout but our waitress was friendly despite the 40 min wait in a not busy restaurant before easter. Fish sand wiches were nice but the mussells were undercooked so they stuck to both sides of the shell. Edible but difficult to eat. Should have complained but after a wait with small children we acted typically british.

05–02-2023 Sandbar Praa sands worst service we have ever had and first time we have ever left a review online… -30mins before someone coming to take drink order. -all glasses dirty -wrong drink orders (then didn’t even bring correct ones back) -kids mains run out of burgers -10mins later head to bar for apple juice, then tried to serve kids with high sugar apple juice…. -left the filthy fries as it looked like something that had been regurgitated -one main didn’t even come out. -then at checkout tried to over charge for extra meal and drinks. Which now getting home they still did! This is the worst place that we have ever eaten, having lived with 3miles of Praa sands my whole life it’s ridiculous at the service, price and overall experience. Been eating here off an on since it become the sandbar back in 2003, but never again.

Are these prices FOR REAL! £24 for breakfast.. drive a little further to Perrauthnoe for stunning views delicious food at affordable prices.. Greedy Sandbar!!

We are local and have been regulars at the sandbar for at least 10 years. The sandbar came under new management in the spring of this year and what an improvement it was !! The food, the ambience what so improved and we loved coming here. We had a table booked for Christmas Eve. Thank goodness we visited on the day for a drink. We noticed that none of the regular staff were present. When we checked on our booking we were told that the sandbar was now back with its original management, there was no food in the kitchen and the best they could offer was burger and chips or fish and chips. We were so shocked that nobody had bothered to contact us to tell us, we have been such regular customers !! We have since been back and unfortunately the sandbar is back to its drab, warehouse like self.. all the lovely comfy furniture is gone and replaced by awful plastic chairs and tables. the prices have gone up considerably, paid £14 for a pint of beer and a large pinot. Wont be back I'm afraid

I am so upset!!! After many years of going to the Sandbar for family occasions the new management team have really let us and the Sandbar down. We booked a birthday dinner for 7 people to celebrate my 83 year old mother in laws birthday. We were all ready to go when I thought I would call and do a last minute check on the time and thank goodness I did! I was told that our booking had been "scrubbed out of the diary" . Apparently they had had a problem with a catering company who had packed up last week and this meant that they had stopped doing food in the evenings. I said that was fine but why wasn't I called they had my number?? The chap I spoke to couldn't answer me so I asked for a call back from the manager. I am still waiting. So disappointed!! If you are booked there I would advise you call, especially for New Years Eve.

I booked a window seat for lunchtime over the phone in advance. When I arrived I said I had a table booked but I could see the waitress was flustered. She spoke to a middle aged man who just dismissed her and walked off. He didn’t even have the decency to speak to us. The poor girl had to come back and inform us that there were no tables available. I had already paid £2 to park and nowhere to eat lunch. There was no attempt made to sort us out or even apologise. Won’t be returning there again.

First time back in a while, WOW, how this place has changed, great service, excellent food especially the Mussels. I'm local and have stayed away for a while, but the place is now lovely. Can highly recommend for families snd couples.

We had walked down to the Sandbar earlier in the week to find it closed and so had checked the website for opening times before setting off again a couple of nights later. We arrived around 45 minutes before the advertised closing time. Exterior and interior lights were on and we could see people playing pool, so we entered believing the bar to be open. However, when we went to the bar, we were told by a member of staff that they had cashed up the tills and were closed, due to it being quiet. I asked if they would be open to their normal hours the next day, to be told rather curtly by another member of staff (who I assumed to be the manager) that “this is usual hours”. Whilst I do understand that November is not busy season, and some venues may choose to close earlier, I do not understand the need for rudeness. It was completely uncalled for, and it is down to this alone why I give this establishment 1 star only. Reading reviews from other people, it seems to be a very mixed bag with some people having a great experience whilst an equal number do not. This, coupled with our own experience, make it unlikely that we will visit again. I find it a real shame that somewhere with such great potential is a not living up to it, especially with new management (based on comments from other reviewers).

Had a delicious light lunch after a fabulous walk along the beach. We were served by the lovely Hannah who was very very busy...everyone has come out because the sun is shining....and although there seemed to be only two members of staff, she dealt with everyone with a lovely smile and great efficiency. We called yesterday to the sandbar after a walk on this beautiful beach, we did not have a booking but we still managed to get a table.We ordered sunday lunch, it was delicious, and the sticky toffee pudding to die for. The staff were lovely and helpful.Beautiful setting right on the beach.

This was once a great place to eat with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. It's now like a canteen with a limited menu. Mainly seafood with little else on offer apart from fairly dull over priced pizza and a and selection.of dull starters We were not impressed.

We had a table booked for 7pm for 7 people. The waitress kept reminding us at the end of our meal to put a review on Tripadvisor so here it is! We were given 2 round tables which wasn’t brilliant because our party was separated. However just after we had ordered a long table became available so we asked to move. The waitress said that would be fine. My food arrived which was the chicken burger served with jalapeños but they were not jalapeños it was pickled gherkins! The chicken fillet was tiny! Coleslaw was fine. Everyones chips were over cooked. My drink was served with ice when I asked for no ice. Apparently my cousin said the steak was good. Over priced for what I was served because my dish was described as chicken fillet but was a chicken a mini, mini fillet.A shame because we are locals who used to recommend The Sand Bar

Utterly incompetent staff! I must have been distracted by the waitress spilling my partners pint as she placed it on the table as I had almost finished my bottle of beer before realising it was not the 0% I had ordered via the app but an alcoholic version- completely unacceptable, particularly as I am pregnant. I am so upset! The bar was pretty much empty, lots of staff, they were not rushed off their feet, absolutely no excuses. Of course I will turn the bottle round and check in future but they should also take more care.

The most stunning location, looking out across a beautiful beach, completely let down by revolting food at astronomical prices! I was so angry after my trip to this restaurant that sits half empty in the middle of peak season, when it should have queue out of the doors because of it’s location - clearly they don’t realise that serving up microwaved rubbish and charging greedy prices for something worth far less than 1/3 as much won’t bring repeat business! We were robbed of £12 for a plate with a few rock hard balls that were less than a sorry excuse for falafels, with a bit of salad, and served what tasted like blitzed canned tomatoes as “chunky minestrone” soup, with not a vegetable or chunk in sight, with a few small slices of stale bread! As far as vegan options go, the only thing they had going for them, other than their phenomenal view, was their chips. What a shame they can’t make some simple, well cooked food - they’d be printing money.

The price on the menu for coffee states £3:30 . The till is set up to charge £3:50. Wasn't even a good coffee or very large. The Lady in charge is very abrupt. Nice young staff.

£13.50 for 2 overcooked withered little strips of chicken and reheated chips. The kids meal was just inedible. This was bar far the worst, most over priced pub food I've ever had. London prices but really REALLY bad food.

We booked a table and we were told we would have a table by the window. When we arrived we were directed to our booked table to find it had been taken. We were simply told by a very rude member of staff it was tough and there was nothing they could about it. We were directed to a table in the bar area which was like sitting in a school canteen. My husband complained again as we really felt at the very least we should have a table in the restaurant as we had booked. Emma, who we believe to be a supervisor couldn’t have cared less and again told us there was nothing that could be done, not even an apology. Needless to say we walked out. There covid measures are also complete overkill, which is ironic given the number of reviews in here about their poor hygiene. They don’t care, they know they have the market as there is nowhere else to go. Porthleven is only a short dive or taxi ride away with many lovely restaurants with staff trained in customer service, well worth the journey!

Came here as staying in the area, so thought would have a stroll down and see what was like for eating…. Tables not cleared, didn’t look great, lots of smelly wet dogs on the terrace, only had a coffee in the end, and takeaway at that!

We came as a family trip camping. We arrived to dirty tables, dirty cutlery. Ordered drinks our glasses were dirty and had to ask twice for fresh glasses no apologies. Then waited 40 minutes for our food order to be taken, which we decided we didn’t want due to the unhygienic state of the place. No apology. Lack of service. Rude staff. Absolute mess of a place. It’s worrying how this is thought to be acceptable.Avoid at all costs, worrying.

It doesn’t get better than Praa Sands and the fantastic Sandbar. We’ve been everywhere in West Cornwall before except here - and we’ve really been missing out on this gem of a beach and cafe/restaurant. We had a delicious evening meal and drinks at the Sandbar, following an afternoon on the beach, with a view that beats most others. Lovely, friendly, helpful staff who seated us even though we hadn’t booked. Absolutely fantastic !

Dropped in on Friday for a drink. Upon entering we stood and waited for someone to tell us where we could sit. Waitress walked past a few times, looked at us waiting, but just ignored us. After waiting a bit we approached the bar, where the barmaid was busy have a good giggle and laugh with the kitchen staff. We asked where to sit, to which we were told we can sit anywhere. We walked around inside to find a table and no word of a lie, of around 20 of the tables where nobody was sitting, every table was filthy with left over food, drinks, glasses and plates. It was disgusting, especially in these covid times. We sat at a table, which I moved the glasses to another table. We sat there for about 15 minutes, no body came over or acknowledged us. In the end we decided to leave as it felt so dirty. Staff were stood about as we left, couple not wearing masks.Such a shame, as due to the setting this place could be really nice. Would need a refurbishment and new Management first though.

Firstly the sheer lack of tables being turned over without so much as a wipe clean let alone thorough sanitising before being reused was shocking. Obviously a lack of staff but that is throughout hospitality, but to keep levels of cleanliness and service should be looked at and perhaps numbers should be limited if they’re overwhelmed as they so obviously are here. Ordered via the app, drinks took 20 minutes and had to ask regarding these. Food was around half an hour, acceptable. But the instructions given on our order were ignored when we’d specifically added a note to the kitchen asking for no gherkin or relish on the burger, it had both. Nobody did any check backs on food whatsoever. Not where condiments offered or any actual conversation. Dessert came without the stated clotted cream, was stale and soggy, and the berries still frozen. I asked for a refund for dessert which wasn’t eaten, was sent a supervisor I imagine who argued rather than apologised, slapped cash refund on table with no words spoken. The lady seating people also commented I was very specific when I mentioned the drinks had been 18 minutes. Which I found rude also. And unacceptable for any business. I work in hospality myself in Penzance and have eaten here on several occasions. No more though. The toilets were disgusting also, and dirty used toilet paper was on the floor between the bar and toilets. There were more than 10 tables needing clearing when we left. Worst experience, and not Covid safe given the sign on entering asking everyone to sign in and sanitize. What’s the point when your tables are filthy and people sit down without them being cleaned first?

Superb location on the beach, great food and drinks , good menu, ok value, staff were unattentive and seemed not to have a clear direction, needs updating , not 100% civid friendly, tables not always wiped..

We were not impressed with our visit. There are obviously not enough staff with experience to run the restaurant service efficiently, and the service is very disappointing. We waited a long time to even get a drink, and only because we ordered via the table app did it appear. We had been ignored since we were seated by the waitress. Having waited even longer for our food to arrive, it was mediocre and unexciting. Not a good experience - let’s hope that when the new premises open next door, this place will get it’s act together in the face of competition.

We recently attended a wedding reception here and it was amazing. The venue is spectacular, but the staff and beautiful food also should be commended. Will definitely return for a meal in the future.

Rosy and her team were absolutely phenomenal on our wedding day! During Covid Rosy kept us informed of changes and worked her hardest to help us stay safe, within guidelines and still have the wedding of our dreams, and this is what we had! The food was second to non- this was validated by 66 guest. The staff on that day were exceptional and could not have been more helpful! They really all helped to make it that bit more special! The chef was fantastic and he catered amazingly for those who required, gluten free, wheat free and vegetarian. Rosy also kept the formalities on time and helped us to be organised which took a lot of pressure off! We already loved the sandbar but this will always be a go to place that holds so many special memories! Thank you rosy and team sandbar!

Tricky to buy a meal and tricky to sell one at the moment. There's a lot to think about, but this place had covered all the bases to make us feel safe and well looked after. There's easy check in, ample hand sanitiser, a one way system and the staff thoroughly sanitise each table between customers. For ease there's an app to place your order, but on the day none of us could get a WiFi signal. One of those things, but the staff had no problem taking our order the old fashioned way, bringing us a card machine at the end. It was nice to taste draught Tribute again and the food was superb. Cajun chicken burgers and ribs on our table. Arguably the best ribs I've tasted for years, I was told the burgers were really good and all the portions catered for the greedy. Delicious. And don't forget the view. A panoramic view of the beach and sea almost forces you to stay and have another pint. Well if it does, give in and order one. A well run welcoming place that delivers great food and drink, a fabulous view, quick and safe service and the owners should be very proud of their team.

Had a dreadful brunch me and my friend wanted something light for lunch so we ordered scrambled eggs on toast as the lunch menu in our opinion was quite expensive eg £14 for burger and chips £12.50 for a pizza!When our order arrived it was poorly presented all the toast was burnt the eggs where more like a badly made omelette rubbery and overcooked with a side of mushrooms swimming in oil.The waitress was miserable didn't even speak the manager was rude and barked at us to put our masks on when it's just sometimes you forget because you've taken it off to eat!We are locals who come to praa sands all year round and is now our choice not to go there again.

I and three family members and the two dogs visited The Sandbar for our tea after visiting the day previously and seeing how good the food looked whilst having drinks on the outside terrace that overlooks the beach. We arrived at 5:30pm and asked if we could sit inside, the waitress was setting out the restaurants for the England match and said we could sit anywhere that had a reservation on the table as long as we left by the time the table was needed which was fine. We sat down and waited 17 minutes and no one had came over to give us a menu or take our drinks order, my dad eventually went up to the bar and asked for menus and the waitress pointed out the menu and he grabbed one and sat back down. We looked at the menu and no one came over, we didn’t want to order the food through the app service as we wanted to pay cash but by this point we had gotten fed up of waiting and ordered the food and drinks via the app. Further customers had come in at this point and they had been served quickly by waitresses and given a service that we hadn’t received. The drinks and food arrived quickly, when the waitress put our food down and asked if we would like anything else I had to ask for cutlery, this request seemed to confuse her for some reason. She brought over the cutlery and we ate our food. The food and drink was the best part, big portions and very tasty. Once we had finished our food it was approaching the time that they needed our table back for their 7pm reservation, so the waitress asked if our food was ok and took away the plates. We sat and finished our drinks for a further 10 minutes and no one came over to our table so we then left. The restaurant was not busy, I don’t know if because we are from up north the waitresses couldn’t be bothered with us, but they gave good service to all the other customers. Overall terrible service, good food and drink and won’t be returning again, which is a shame because where we are staying this is the nearest restaurant to us!

I live locally. I met a family member who is down here on holiday. I booked a table, as I always do anywhere I go as it helps restaurants with planning.We had a delicious lunch and could not fault the service. The staff were friendly and polite. I've been many times to Sandbar and really don't understand the horrid reviews I have read. I have never had a bad experience and all my visiting friends and family just say 'Meet you at the Sandbar.' I don't need to persuade them, we have never been disappointed and we have a wide age range.People should think twice before finding fault when most people in hospitality here in Cornwall are just trying to do their best.

My partner and I were treated appallingly today. We are both mask exempt and our other family with us wore masks. We were talked at disgustingly by the manager. Told to put a mask on. We told her we were exempt and showed her our lanyards. She then barked at us to eat outside if we wouldn't wear a mask. On explaining to her the law she shrugged her shoulders and said it was new policy. I asked her to show me the new policy to which she said it was her policy. She was extremely rude. It was embarrassing to us all. We will be taking it further. To add we went there 2 days previous with no problems at all. Great views food ok.

The people giving this place terrible reviews are clearly a bunch of bitter crusty old malcontents channeling their self disappointment and crapulence into giving restaurants and establishments making a real effort to please their customers a hard time. Take no notice of these miserable old gits. If it's that bad down here then piss off back across the tamar.We took a chance on a steak which was pretty nice, not massively cheap (i didn't expect it for free), came with lovely crispy chips. The waitress was a lovely young lass if a bit nervous and was kind enough to move us to a window table without as much as a raised eyebrow.I've been to a lot of beach restaurants and this one is pretty nice. Nicely decked out, friendly atmosphere and service. Looking out onto the shore break at Praa Sands 20 yards away takes some beating and for that I'm willing to forgive the 'a little on the steep side' prices. They are trying to survive after lockdown, after all.We'll definitely be coming back if only to be safe in the knowledge that we won't be sharing it with the horrid creatures slagging this place off.

Excellent food and staff. Special mention to the locals especially wee hayley from the site up the road

Called in for some food, ordered via the app, paid then told there was no food due to staff shortage there was no information telling you that, staff didn’t seem bothered so got a refund and left there are better places for you to spend your money so avoid this place

Went in to order two takeaway pizzas to eat on the beach. Ordering was okay, was told to sit in the area that had been roped off for takeaways which was okay as quiet. Pizzas were really disappointing. One was supposed to have goats cheese, which was none existent. Both the margarita and the vegetarian tasted the same. Bland and both with a huge layer of slimy pizza cheese. We weren’t expecting artisan but hoped for better. Used to be so much better so disappointed it’s gone down hill.

We were greeted by a very rude woman who barked instructions at us across the restaurant. The odd please and thank you would have been appreciated. The place is a bit grubby and has an utterly bewildering one way system. Hopefully you get it right first time lest you get shouted at! I felt like they had contempt for tourists but failed to appreciate we live locally and visit Praa weekly, (not that it should matter).Service is slow and drinks are very expensive. Thought better of ordering food given our experience so just had a drink and let ourselves out.

We've been going here for years, though we often wonder if it's worth going as it's just the view that draws us as the premises and service gets worse.We went back after the lockdown hoping they had revamped it during lockdown and was very disappointed that it looked no different. We did wonder if it may have had a possible "lick of paint" at its best. If it did the paint they used must have been watered down!The gents were minging with no wipes this weekend. I felt I was at Battersea Dogs home as there were several dogs in there. Quite often you couldnt hear yourself talk due to barking.It took staff ages to clean tables and ours wasn't even waiped down where there was ait of debris from previous customers. A shame as we're coming out of a pandemic.The service was OK and prices seem high which is quite cheeky considering the state of the place. What crosses my mind is that if the public areas are so dirty, then I darent imagine what the kitchen is like?I just wish the owners or those currently leasing this would wake up and put some commitment into The Sandbar. If not why don't you sell or move over and allow someone with direction and commitment take over?You're going downhill and are probably running on first time customers only as returning is something that I'm struggling with like so many.I apologise if this sounds "curse" but Please listen as we would like to make visiting you a pleasure rather than have "goose pimples" due to the state of the place.

Having been before and had a great time decided to return .Walked in to a sign saying please write your details down the only place to write was their reservation diary which I’m sure wasn’t the place to write your details for covid reasons .Asked if we could have food got told by a very young waitress No ! Only if you booked .All the tables were empty so after ordering drinks went to the bar and asked again about food only to be told no sorry you can’t just walk in for food because in case we run out !!! Ladies toilets were disgusting no hand towels only a small pile just thrown on top of the empty hand towel dispenser which were obviously wet from previous people , toilet roll holders empty with the toilet rolls thrown on the floor .Asked if we could order a cocktail waitress looked on the food special board and went to find out only to reply “ no not tonight they are not on tonight “Even though the table next to us was having pimms !!Dirty terrace with chips sand and god knows what else all over it , no ashtrays they got taken away and not returned ,sand on the tables whole place is a disaster.Family next to us ordered food which was thrown on their table waitress didn’t even speak to them .Shame on you sand bar clearly you are not interested in having return guests just using the amazing beach as an excuse to attract customers .Avoid at all costs and make the extra few miles and go to Porthleven where you will be welcomed to fabulous food and service .I really hope the owners of the Sand Bar read the reviews and take notice this place is disgusting

The service here was so slow 30 minutecwait for 4 drinks we almost left without having them. Poor service and very noisey

We arrived at 6:20pm we was told to go to the bar where we would be told what table we was booked for. A very rude member of staff came over and said “what do you want” so we said we had a table booked and she went “name” and we gave her our name and she said “Table number 8” which we then took ourselves too. Once we reached the table we was told to sit wherever we wanted. We was wanting to stay at table 8 but she insisted we sat at a table for 6 despite there only being 2 of us. This was nice, however the table hadn’t been wiped nor the seats, the WiFi sheet that’s left on the table was not wiped and we was thrown a PAPER menu. Couldn’t be anymore unsafe with COVID especially. A young mum had walked in with her little boy and asked if she could order something. The lady behind the bar went “no we are fully booked” and sent her away. Despite the whole restaurant being empty bar me and 1 other table of 2. Roughly 10 minutes later a family of 4 came and asked the same thing. The same lady behind the bar said “yeah pick a table and I’ll be over In a minute”. So one person couldn’t order but someone else could? There was 3 things on the menu. Pizza, ciabattas and burgers. The burgers had all sold out, the ciabattas stopped at 6pm so pizza was our only choice which cost £13 and was absolutely horrendous. When the food was eventually served after a member of staff had finally realised we was waiting to order, we then watched 2 members of staff having a massive argument in the middle of the restaurant. Wtf is that about? Our pizza was served absolutely dripping with oil, and the mayonnaise that we had got too had clearly been sitting there all day as the top layer had discoloured and went clumpy. I was served a can of coke and a glass that had stains all round the top of it from previous use, and when leaving we saw a huge mess by the exit door; tables and umbrellas stuck in cupboards that were on the verge of falling out. The staff are rude, and clearly have no manors and very poor customer service skills. They was not welcoming at all and we’re plain and simply rude. But thank you for the free drinks that you forgot to charge us for!! Clearly none of you knew what you was doing. I used to love the sandbar. But now I certainly won’t be going back!! Save your money people!!!

Qued patiently for more than one hour,sadly when l reached the bar to order my food and drink at 13:40 on bank Holiday Sunday l was told by the very rude manageress we havestopped serving food. If you have any sense do not bother with this excuse for a restaurant unless you have time to waste

Ridiculously overpriced food/drink and terrible attitude of staff. A can of Coke should not cost £3.40 and pizza, 2 chips, 4 coffees is not worth £35.60!! To then be chastised for not following the utterly confusing one-way system to the letter was a joke. Avoid like the plague.

Food was rather expensive for what it was. Sons sausages had been microwaved and chewy , the chips over cooked and dry. The beer batters fish looked amazing but the fish was dry inside and the chips again were well over cooked. At £5 for a beer it was an expensive lunch and I shall not frequent the bar again after 6 years of visiting.

The view over the beach is great and the service , presentation of the food was good but the chips were overcooked making them hard shell lumps, my son had sausage and chips which seemed to have been microwaved as they were hard and rubbery. The ciabatta with beef was nice and tasty but with a meal for 4 with drinks costing £62 it seemed high for the quality of the food
