Great fish and chips, oh and a lovely curry sauce.

For the high price we paid we expected better. Fish overly battered (deceptively looking like big bit of fish, but not when you cut into it) and not well drained either, and chips mediocre. Sad really as I remember a few years ago things seemed much better. I realise costs have soared but one bad experience usually means people don't return :(

No idea why there have been such bad reviews? We ordered 4x cod n chips with 1 gluten free on a Sunday evening 6.30pm in October. There was nobody in there so got served straight away. Fish cooked to.order. Served in trays. Nothing to be negative about. Really nice cod n chips! Would go again if back in the area.

I had the cod and chips. The chips were lovely, not greasy at all. This cod had a thin crispy batter and was perfectly cooked fish. I would highly recommend.

Two takeaway portions of fish and chips cost £23, and the batter on both portions was badly undercooked and inedibly flabby. Will not return. We were the only people waiting to be served, so no 'busy' excuse. Just hurried cooking.

We loved our fish and chips ! 4 cod and 2 plaice. All crispy and fresh . Shocked on the bad reviews , I can only assume its down to people not understanding food being steamed while being transported. Ours was fantastic, though we were only staying 10 minutes away. We were looking forward to this coming to Cornwall, and we were not disappointed.

Perfectly cooked cod, nice and crispy batter. Chips spot on and so was curry sauce, not sure about the sultanas in the curry sauce though

Great fish and chips. Cooked to order, ready very quickly and everything perfect. My husband and I had Plaice and Chips and it was the best I have tasted in a long time.

We had 4 cod and chips, 2 place and chips. Crispy batter and chips. All order only taken on site , cooked to order in front of you. I can only assume the bad reviews are down to transportation and the food being steamed on the journey. We thought this was amazing. Considering where we are (in Cornwall) fish and chips should be good, and this did not disappoint!

The chips were white and you could have used them as nails they were that hard the batter on the fish was wet on the inside talked to some people in the local pub and they said it was bit and miss with the food

The food is overpriced and of very low quality. For what you're paying, it's simply not worth it. The chips were probably the worst I've ever had from a chippy.

Unfortunately very disappointed with food, fish was edible but greasy, chips were awful almost like they has been re heated from another day didn't expect this for a Saturday evening. Such a shame very expensive for poor quality food

Lovely friendly ladies serving. Visited at 5:00pm and the fish and chips was cooked whilst I waited, so was expecting it to be good, certainly won’t get any better sitting around. Have to agree with the previous review, the food was disgusting, chips where hard as rock, batter on the fish was virtually raw in places and the fish was utterly tasteless, clearly frozen fish and the cheapest ingredients used. I feel properly seen-off, complete waste of money and straight in the bin.

Worst chips I’ve ever had so crunchie not fluffy at all so disappointed, we have been coming here for years now and would rather drive to Jon’s in Wadebridge there fish and chips are excellent and a lot cheaper, dont waste your money 😢

Used to be good, now terrible. Chips were stale and too chewy to eat.

Good chips and good fish. A few years ago the vegan nuggets were a meat alternative (soya for example) and usually I ask what it is made of, didn’t this time as I thought it would be the same and was very disappointed to find out the vegan nuggets were that type of bread crumbed mushed veg. If you don’t want to do vegan/vegetarian well, don’t have it as an option!!

Scampi and fish were great chips were dreadful unfortunately.

3 of us called in 5.30pm today, our fish was good, one was gluten free but the chips tasted horrible, not very hot nor crispy which was a shame at £11.70 each. The service was very efficient though.

Would not use this place again fish and chip were disgusting batter on fish was gross chips were basically un eatable and very expensive last time we used this place was queuing outside the door this time (end of August)no one in there I now know why

“Large Cod” was tiny and felt more like a small than large, chips weren’t that fresh, despite visiting at 6.45pm. Disappointing and regretted not going into Padstow where you get larger portions and fresher produce.

Disgusting waste of money! Spent £56 on dreadful food that ended up in bin. Cold hard undercooked chips, all small scraps of potato. Mushy small fish dipped in egg which is a no no! Clearly must be frozen not fresh. Over priced real disappointing end to our holiday.

Fantastic chips for me and the family

Visited while on holidays. Food was good but chips could do with extra time in the fryer for crispiness and chicken breast was a bit dry. Had the best curry sauce in a long time though.

Just had 2 cod, chips and mushy peas. Fish was mushy and more than likely Pollock. Batter soggy and oily. Chips were so hard I was worried they would break my teeth so gave up on them. Pras were a very small portion. Everything was tasteless and disappointing. We won't bother again.

We've frequented Fryer Tucks for as long as I can remember when heading down to that part of Cornwall for the last 15 or so years. The people behind the counter are always smiling and full of chatter when ordering/waiting for your food. My father was oddly happy when he ordered a pickled egg and the lady put it in a little container and drew a heart on the container. Absolutely made his day.

I was a little apprehensive given previous reviews, but my cod and chips was excellent value for money, tasty chips , good quality fish in light batter, no problems good.

Lovely light batter and a generous piece of cod. Excellent chips, again fluffy and light with a nice crispy finish.

Chips… Very small portion of chips for £3.55 Lots of bad chips amongst them too. Pale and tasteless…yuk!! Fish… Just ok!

Okay but given the seaside location we expected the fish to be fresher and tastier. The chips were also mediocre. Staff were friendly and service was quick.

Wanted large chips was told only one size. £3.55 for the tiniest bag of chips I’ve ever seen. Shocking

The food wasn't bad, but nowhere near as good as the previous visit. I don't think the food was frozen and was fresh, but the pricing is absolutely astronomical for what you get. £1.70 for a small sausage? £11.70 for chips and a small cod fillet. The pricing left a sour taste in the mouth. One of the last "traditional" chop shops in the area that has gone the way of the others in keeping up with Rick Steins pricing. Unfortunately, the last visit from me.

Very average fish and chips. Definitely had better. But it was local to where we was staying.

Not nice, frozen fish its too obvious,was absolute mush. Plaice was bought it and like cardboard,cod, well it was off no doubt about it. £12 each cant believe i paid it,the chip shops in cornwall are awful. Large chips doesnt exist. Wont go again.

Really good fish and chips. IMO way better than Rick Steins, as batter is crispy and chips don’t have a weird greasy aftertaste from the beef dripping. Fish and chips isn’t cheap nowadays, but the cod here is decent and thick.

Great fish and chips, way better than any others, naming no names and far better value

Great staff, we bought fish and chips and sausage and chips. Fish was nice but batter was really soggy on the inside, sausages had the texture of being cooked the day before and reheated. The chips were terrible, pre cooked and re cooked. This place was rated probably one of the best places around, but sadly has gone down hill fast.

Average fish and chips. Decent portion and price. 10/10 tartare sauce. Carried the whole dish.

It looked like it was going to be good but the batter was abysmal. It was more like thick uncooked cake mix. Inedible. Come on guys, you can do better than this.

Fantastic food and well-organised staff means quick service even at the busiest times. Reasonably priced too.

Super fast and efficient service, clean and bright inside and really excellent fish and chips in sustainable packaging. The chips especially were absolutely perfect - crisp outside and soft and fluffy inside with an appealing colour to them. They do a child’s portion too which is excellent value and so great as many places don’t offer this. We also had mushy peas and a rich curry sauce. Easy convenient parking right outside and near other shops.

Superb lovely chips and fish was excellent 👌 local to were we are staying for the holiday. Definitely will vist again this holiday.

Tasty cod and chips. Fast service.

We ate our cod, chips and mushy peas outside. The fish was excellent - batter so crispy and not greasy. Good size portions. Chips were good too, and even the ketchup. The peas could have had more seasoning but I enjoyed them

We had 6 fish suppers 1 pie and chips 1 fishcake. Fish was good. The chips were very hard on the outside. Fishcake was very poor quality. Would not recommend

Every year I have fish and chips from this chippy they are always fantastic!

Unfortunately we stopped for fish and chips today after being at the beach and it’s the worst and some Of the most Expensive we have ever had, great staff but absolute profiteering because of where it is, small servings, greasy food, stale cold chips, packet curry sauce. No choice of fish just cod (not very sustainable) and cost £11 or £6.50 for a child’s , worst £47 I’ve ever spent sadly when money is so tight at the moment, wish I’d seen the reviews first, drive on by !!

Visited today so disappointed had chips they were rubbery no taste and like old warm ups disgusting defo wont be bk👎👎👎👎

Very disappointing. Better off driving elsewhere and getting something better. Sausages are like plastic and poor quality, fish not great and chips bang average. Mushy peas tasteless, curry sauce okay.

Soggy chips and batter - basically unable to eat and it’s gone straight into the bin - this used to be a great and reliable F&C shop but no longer

Sad to write this review. In 2021 we were obsessed with Fryer Tucks and bought food from them most days as it was so good. Unfortunately when we returned this summer the food was really greasy, chips weren’t crispy and overall quite bland. It’s such a shame.

Ordered 2 adults sausage and chips. Threw most of the chips and one sausage away as inedible. Very disappointed and will not return.

Sadly, very poor fish and chips indeed. Chips were very dry, stale even. The fish quality was very poor and small which for this part of the world is inexcusable. The batter was heavy, greasy and soggy. Tasteless would best describe the meal. We have been twice over the years while staying in Harlyn and the experience food wise was the same, very disappointing. Although the staff were lovely as was the atmosphere. Price.. £22 for fish and chips twice for this quality is daylight robbery you would get a better experience from frozen cod and frozen chips from the supermarket to be honest. 😢 oh, and avoid the curry sauce, unless you like sultanas as they give you plenty of those! 🤢🤮

We ordered 3 adult meals & 4 kids meals from here & it was all really lovely! Staff were friendly, food was still hot after our 10 minute drive home & we all enjoyed everything we had. Lots of chips in the portions too. Excellent & would definitely recommend. Best curry sauce I have had too & the kids loved their nuggets

Just eaten f&c from here. If Heineken did f&c this is what it would taste like. The portions are not huge but its quality not quantity. Crispy batter on fresh fish with lovely crispy chips, not those horrible soggy ones. All I can say is Fab u lous.

Smallest, saddest cheeseburger I've ever seen. The scampi, fish and chips were good though.
