Sadly this placed lacked atmosphere and any personal touch. The beer was good and wine ok as is the location, but it’s really missing some love and attention. Soft furnishings, some small tables with cushions plus some work on standards of cleanliness. The tables were all very sticky as was the bar area. An easy fix but needs proper care. Outside area is pleasant for a drink in the sunshine but needs to work much harder

What an incredible meal as always, we've been twice for food and many times for drinks and can't speak highly enough of this place! The homemade BBQ sauce is to die for! You can ask for it with anything but comes as standard with the delicious chicken strips! The italian chicken burger is unreal aswell, do not miss out on this place its truly delicious food and really good portions and they have korev on tap as well as many many other awesome choices!

Sadly our normally excellent Sunday roast was spoiled by an overly amplified singer/guitarist. Despite being seated at the opposite end of the restaurant normal conversation was simply not possible. It's a shame because the food was very good and we had previously much enjoyed Sunday lunches at the Tamar Inn. Acoustic music would have been fine, but a full-blown PA set-up is over the top for a family meal at lunch time.

Another fabulous lunch at this vibrant spot on the Tamar river, food was superb again, cannot fault their menu for variety and value. The pub is always busy, service is exceptional and it always has a lovely friendly vibe. A fantastic place to showboat to tourists to highlight the best the Tamar valley has to offer and a wonderful, reliable go-to spot for the discerning local who values a great pub meal in a wonderfully vibrant spot!

We visited on a Tuesday evening when it was fairly quiet, though great to see a lively group playing backgammon together. The place has a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. We both had steak which was beautifully cooked, and tasty. Super portion sizes too! In fact, as light eaters normally, we probably could’ve managed with one portion between us both. Our meal came with chips, salad, mushroom, onion rings which were all perfect.

After a walk along the valley, our group of four called in for a drink. The barman seemed insulted that we had torn him away from watching the horse racing on the TV, barley managed a grunt of acknowledgement as we spoke to him and rolled his eyes when I changed my mind as to which lager I wanted. Although we had no contact with any other member of staff, none of them seemed inclined to smile. Won't be hurrying to return.

Although it was a bit empty, it was a cold January night, this large-ish pub had a decent menu and helpful young staff. we were served promptly and the food was well-cooked and good VFM. A bit more of a restaurant than a traditional pub, its location means it would be a great place to visit in spring and summer.

One of the worst roasts I have ever had. The beef was tougher than leather, the veg was overcooked and very sparce. All for an extortionate £15.50.My wife had the veggy option and that was terrible too. Mentioned my experience to one of the staff but they had no interest in the lack of quality of the food. We will not be returning!

Stopped off for Lunch. It was a lovely afternoon so we sat outside. The menu for a Sunday was limited choice, but was adequate. I chose scampi and chips . Well ! These had to be the best chips ever ! I have never had chips like it before . I don’t know if they were frozen but they were so crispy. The scampi was cooked perfectly . Really friendly staff . The other food that was coming out looked just as nice as mine. Would certainly return here again.

We ate lunch here during a day out in the area. Pleasant pub indoors, lots of character, and plenty of outdoor seating with river ‘over the road’views. We ate inside as the weather was iffy but moved outside to finish our drinks, all very pleasant. Great real ale choice and both I had were well kept. Food was limited in choice but plentiful and hot and tasty, served by pleasant young staff. Only gripe , is the gentleman who appeared to be the landlord was a bit of a grump, no friendly chat, no welcome when we arrived and generally seemed miserable when serving our drinks, rest of the staff were lovely.

I remember this place being good from years ago, and took my wife there for our anniversary lunch. We went for their fish and chips and mushy peas (surprising choice perhaps, but it is something we both love). The batter was crispy with no soggy bits; the fish was perfectly (not over) cooked; the chips (skin on - a nice touch) were crispy outside and fluffy inside; the desserts (hot chocolate brownies with vanilla ice cream) were a delight, and the price was really good too. The place has a lovely atmosphere, and they get full marks from us on every count! (and yes, we really DID go there, and no, we haven't been bribed by them!)

The Tamar Inn is a great local pub that hit all the right notes for a local. Is it going to win awards, no. Will it be a gastronomic-pub no. However, you will get a burger, fish and chips served with a pint. We stopped to dinner on a warm sunny Saturday and had to eat inside as the smell of weed being smoked was unbearable. However, we went back several times over the week and sat in the courtyard and enjoyed drinks every time

There was no room to eat so we pre-ordered then went for a walk. We weren’t given an exact time to return but “about 40 mins”. 45 minutes later we arrived to find our food had been sitting waiting, and clearly not kept hot. Cold chips are not nice, and the “vegan fish” was probably out of a supermarket freezer and lukewarm at best. We were hungry so ate it as there was nothing else around at that time on a Sunday. 3 dirty glasses, the wrong cider came, and who appeared to be the owner talked about us without bothering to come over and help, showing no concern. So disappointed when both the menu and place seemed to offer so much.

This is a place I have visited often when near Calstock and when attending the arts centre. Almost always found it very good for food and drink with reasonable prices for a popular venue. However, on this occassion we bought drinks and took them outside. I had a lemon and lime and as I took a drink I noticed lipstick on the glass. I took it back to the bar and the man who served me was taciturn at best, although he changed the drink immediately. his attitude meant I felt I had to ask him if he believed me. He said he did and as he walked away said "it frequently happens". It was left there but it really was a poor response and although her had a screen protecting him during these times, there did not seem to be any recognition of the difficulties he might be putting others in.

It was a traditional country village pub, with a nice mix of tourists and villagers. Lots of character and often live music.Today we find it has been ‘modernised’ into another soulless gastropub.. all the tables were reserved & other than outside on the wet benches or 4 bar stools there was nowhere that drinkers could sit & enjoy their pints. The Royal Oak at Meavy although heavily into very good food does have a table reserved for drinkers. Something The Tamar Inn could benefit from.

We had a great dinner here, v welcome after a long drive to holiday in Cornwall. Calstock is a stunning place and the Tamar Inn is in the heart of it. Home-cooked food, a friendly atmosphere and plenty of tables in and out.

Lovely local pub and fantastic location if the weather is kind to be be able to sit and enjoy some stunning Calstock and viaduct scenery. The kids can be occupied by the nearby pirate Ship play area in view from the benches.

After going to a few pubs and being told they were not serving food on a Monday evening we were told to come here as this was the best food in the area. The menu was very limited and quiet basic but it had been a long evening of driving down narrow country lanes to find somewhere to eat and we were extremely hungry. So after being told it was a 40 minute wait for food we decided to stay anyway. 2 of us had fish and chips, 1 had a burger and the other had pork loin. Food was mediocre, nothing to wow you and for the 4 of us with a drink each it came to just over £52.

This building is an eye-sore really, and needs repairing and turning into something good. Maybe a pub chain, art hub, or houses for local people.

Massively overpriced lunch that did not live up to expectations. Apparently the two roasts that were had on the table were good, but the hake and mash two of us ordered that sounded delicious, was measly portioned and bland. For £27 it needs to be better. The soy butter sauce was watery and bland. The mash was oily and poorly made. The fish was cooked well but there was too little of it for that price. The barn-like dining hall wasn’t great either - last time we went (some years ago) it was still the old pub, and all the better for it. Won’t be back.

Went to watch rugby, plenty of space and good atmosphere. They did forget our food order but rectified it really quickly and we're super apologetic! Nachos for the win.
