Dropped in at The Bridge Inn on the 7th September. We were greeted by the lovely landlady Diane, who could not of been nicer. She asked us where we would like to sit & brought our drinks over. We ordered our food when the drinks were brought over. The food arrived about 15 mins later, it was well presented & piping hot. I had a burger which is produced locally, it was very tasty & my had a lasagne which she said was lovely. The food was brought to us by a lovely polite helpful girl called Ashley. 100% we will be going back. Lovely clean pub, lovely staff & lovely food. Thanks guys really appreciated our trip & you were also lovely.

Terrible food and rude staff. The vegetarian burger was awful. A bitter taste and was not edible, vile. The staff serving the table gardens walked towards us with someone else’s order and after I explained that it was not for us she turned and utter For F*** Sake and stomped off. The barman said we could not order food until 7pm. It was 6.57! And made me wait. We used to enjoy this pub but it’s obviously been taken over by someone not concerned about the service levels.

Nice food, good beer and lovely staff. However my quiet Saturday evening meal was spoiled by extremely loud and foul mouthed young males at the bar. Their voices could be heard throughout the pub and their 'conversation' was peppered with frequent expletives and misogynistic and racist comments and slurs. No attempt was made by any of the staff or the manager/ landlady to get them to moderate their language or curb their behaviour. Even when they temporarily went out in to the beer garden their language was clearly audible throughout the pub and if anything the profanities etc. became even worse and increased in volume. Many people in the pub were disturbed and the comments I heard indicated that many were not at all impressed and that they would be reluctant to return unless it was at a different time when they would be unlikely to have to endure similar scenes, language and behaviour. Not acceptable and not good for the pubs business. Visitor/ boaters be warned, especially if you are dining with young children.

Booked for Sunday lunch after being super impressed by the land lady on a visit for drinks the previous day. One of our party of 6 had recently undergone hospital treatment and was unable to walk any distance. We'd all had too much to drive but couldn't get a taxi despite numerous calls to local firms Seeing our predicament Diane the landlady offered to drive our friend back to the camp site. We were so grateful we booked lunch the next day which was excellent!

The Bridge Inn is in a lovely location next to the canal. This was our first visit under new management, we popped in for lunch, the menu was burgers or pizzas, although they said they could do a cheese and bacon ciabatta. My partner chose the fish burger and I chose the ciabatta as I wasn't that hungry. A few minutes after the order was taken we were advised that the fish needed to be defrosted, so he needed to chose something else. My ciabatta was very greasy and I didn't really enjoy it, his beef burger and chips were fine. I know it's difficult to please everyone, but I would like to have seen something light on the menu.

In new ownership and so worth a visit. This pub is nestled alongside the Kennet and Avon Canal and so is worth a pit stop. The welcome was very warm and the service top notch, quick and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent we had the meat feast pizza and the quinoa burger, both delicious and generous portions. We would definitely go back again.

We happened upon The Bridge Inn whilst looking for somewhere suitable for a date! We were greeted warmly by the staff, as the place is under new management, all of whom are new. The decoration in the bar are new stylish and fresh and Jane commented that the toilets were the cleanest she's ever seen in a pub/restaurant (and fortunately the window was too small for her to escape from). We decided to eat, the decision to stay longer and have lunch after our initial coffee was totally misinterpreted by me to be a sign that Jane actually was interested. Dear reader...she wasn't (although loves me as a friend, as I do her). Lunch was from a fairly limited menu but it was excellent and prepared with care. Overall, give this place a chance. Staff are lovely the atmosphere is good and we liked our lunch. So thanks Jane for a cracking time in a lovely pub. I forgive you for breaking my fragile heart.

Firstly went here on a weekend with two friends. Lovely decor and really friendly staff. All of us went away happy after a lovely meal. I had the mussels which were really nice. Came back a week later for a mid week meal with my boyfriend and again had amazing service and great food. This time had the risotto as they had run out of mussels. Firstly I was slightly disappointed given how much I had previously enjoyed them but the risotto was even better! Truly a lovely time out and would definitely go their again any day

A very nice canal-side pub for lunch with friendly efficient staff serving excellent meals in a really secure socially safe venue. Food was tasty, well presented and plentiful. The beef and chickenburger meals that I and my wife had were both superb. The menu is extensive and caters for all tastes. Sadly the sweet menu went unsampled because the main course was so generous. This was a very good meal in pleasant surroundings.

Upon arriving at the Bridge Inn we were shown to our table and handed the menus. We were asked what drinks we wanted and these were delivered to our table promptly after and were asked what we wanted to eat. My partner opted for the chicken burger with chips and myself, the cauliflower cheese with tomato. I felt as though this wasn’t going to be enough for me as I had built quite an appetite so asked the young waitress if it were at all possible to also have a side of chips in which she said was fine. As sides were not on the menu my partner asked if side orders were possible in which the waitress replied I don’t know but she would find out. My partner thanked the girl and asked for some onion rings if only it were possible. Shortly after what I presume was the landlord abruptly arrived at our table demanding to see our menus as we must have the wrong one ‘as they don’t do sides’. My partner politely explained this wasn’t a problem however he was only asking the question and off she went without another word. Our food arrived with no side order of chips although given the all clear by the waitress before. Food was average but nothing that will encourage us to return for. I understand with Covid chefs may be restricted with how much they can do in the kitchen however myself and my partner found the staff quite rude, and rather abrupt and there was certainly no can do attitude! The whole experience felt quite rushed and we even saw one of the waitresses rolling a fag behind the carvery counter! The girl however who came to take our payment was lovely - if only we’d had her as our waitress instead!

We have visited The Bridge Inn a number of times whilst on holiday in the area. Our holiday was a week after pubs had opened up, and we went to The Bridge once for lunch and once for dinner. The garden is lovely, and tables are far enough apart, you can sit and watch the canal. They have thought about how to keep staff and customers safe and it's a welcoming environment. The food and service were great.

Arrived here from a canal boat on Friday evening. The towpath access was closed as was the garden area which in summer would be a nice place to eat and drink. Standard pub menu choice but being Friday it had to be Fish & Chips. Large tasty battered fish and too many chips for me (not complaining). Only surprise, it was the first time I've paid £4 for an ale (Wadworth 6X) but I'm from "up North".

Once again I visited the local pub and as in the past the staff , beverages and food were excellent but I found eating the food to be a frustrating proceedure due to the size of the plate on which it was served, it was so small that the generous pile of chips along with salad garnish and portion of peas completely overfilled the plate and this was almost covered up with the generous portion of battered cod. Such that I had to remove quite a few of the chips, pot of peas and half lemon in order to be able to get the fish onto the plate so that I could cut it up.

A group of us had been walking the Ridgeway for most of the morning.and were in need of a rest with sustinance. We had parked near to an ancient buryal mound so we had a short drive to get to The Bridge Inn. We had been here before so we knew it was well worth the drive. And we were not disappointed!! The friendly staff showed us to our 'reserved' table, plied us with much needed refreshment ales and then took our lunch orders.I chose the lasagne but was tempted by the ham eggs and chips! However the lasagne was perfect! Others chose battered cod and chips which was very impressive when it arrived. Generous portions were appreciated and a couple of us were unable to present a clean plate when they had finished. Not me though!!

My husband and I visited this pub for the first time for lunch. The welcome was friendly and we were served at the bar straight away. We were shown to a table in the bar/restaurant, given an explanation of the menus and left to make our very difficult decisions. I chose the Hunters Chicken and my husband chose the Chicken and Rib Combo. We waited a reasonable amount of time before the food arrived and wow! The portions were huge! The Hunters chicken breast was huge with lots of cheese, bacon and sauce, with chips and salad. The chicken and ribs consisted of two large portions of chicken, half a rack of ribs, corn on the cob, coleslaw, salad and chips. We took our time, and were also served more drinks to the table, to save interrupting our meal.

We had Sunday lunch at the bridge in Horton-quite impromptu. We had a dog with us so opted for the beer garden as it looks very nice from the car park. We came to the Bridge many years ago and it looked as if the beer garden had been done up. Sadly we didn’t really notice everything until we’d ordered at the bar and then gone out to the beer garden. Someone has gone to such a lot of effort into putting in lots of interesting plants. These really were lovely with different wooden planters, bamboo, trickling water and lovely hanging baskets overflowing with orange begonias. There was also a big long pergola which looks like it will have a vine growing over it when it grows. Fancy going to all this trouble making beautiful planting areas and then leaving it all to look such a mess. The grass needs a good mow but that wasn’t the main thing. It was the fact that there was bird poo on practically every table, litter on many (empty salt packets, napkins and crumbs), the deck area under the pergola needed a good sweep as it was full of leaves, grit and a fair few fag ends. We had a table under the pergola and it was really stained. They need a really good clean, a sand down and some varnish so that they can be easily wiped clean. The tables on the main lawn area look like a graveyard to pub tables!. They are wonky, rough and desperately need fixing up and sanding down. I didn’t see anyone out there at all wiping any tables down whilst we were there. We had to cover the bird poo up with a napkin. The fence is peeling paint and overall, despite the lovely planting scheme, it is very shabby. It’s such a shame because a canalside garden with all these beautiful plants that someone has cared for could be really nice but they seem to really missing a trick. We had a carvery and the food was plentiful. I wouldn’t say it was fantastic but you certainly did get large portions. The pork slice I had was very fatty and hard but that’s just because it was the end of the joint I think. The turkey, however was really lovely and the roast beef was very tender. Yorkshire puddings were not crispy. The veg was overcooked - the broccoli and cauliflower was very mushy and the parsnips were hard and dry. Service was okay. The table behind had burger and chips which looked really tasty with a big portion of chips and some coleslaw and they seemed to be enjoying it. I heard another table comment on how the beer garden needed a good clean and tidy up.

Situated next to the Kennet & Avon canal and a short walk from Devizes this pub should have everything. A sunny Easter Saturday what better to sit out in the garden and enjoy a pint and a snack. The interior of the pub however is dark and a bit dated (shabby even). The garden has plenty of seats and a play area and you would think they would have had it looking neat and tidy for the Bank Holiday customers including the many who moor overnight on the canal. But no. The grass was uncut, weeds everywhere and even old hanging baskets left over from last year. The garden like the pub interior lacked appeal and was shabby. To add insult there was a strimmer and a lawn mower parked amongst the gardens seats, so why hadn't they been used ? The staff were friendly and efficient but the pub just didn't give you that wow factor that it's location deserved. Tidy the garden, update the interior (especially the toilets) and I will return. Not exactly child friendly next to a canal and as a Wadworth's pub a bit more expensive than some.

Being a sunny BH Monday it was busy. We arrived about 12.30 so were able to eat quite quickly. I think others arriving c1.15pm had more of a wait. The garden is lovely albeit a bit run down and could do with some tlc but it was fine for what we wanted. The staff were polite and prompt. Saw several staff collecting empty plates and glasses promptly from the tables which is something that pubs often seem to overlook when they are busy.

Normally have a good word to say about any pubs as they fight to retain our custom. However this one is just not walker friendly. Went in after a relatively long walk and wanted to sit in the garden but was told it was off limits to maintenance. We didn't see any evidence that it was being maintained, just out of use. A small huddle of people forced outside, meant we eventually did find space to the side of the building.

I desperately wanted to enjoy today mainly because I managed to get my father to eat somewhere other than his local but it was a carvery and carverys are seldom Earth shattering. Most of the staff were nice and as we had informed them before hand that we were bringing our toddler, the table was set up ready with a high chair and plastic cutlery although the fork looked quite sharpe but thats being picky. What put a huge dampener on the whole visit was the interaction I had with the landlord. The details are unimportant but he showed visible signs of stress, I am not slow in coming forward and had to ask that he not speak to me the way he did. He responded positively but I still wanted to gather my family and walk out. My family have just last month retired from their last catering pub I truly hope none of their customers felt like I did today. As for the food, it didn’t taste bad but honestly it didn’t taste of anything either. I might be mistaken but I think a lot was bought from Bookers or somewhere like it. Why? When you have Cooks in town yes you pay more but the quality is excellent, also we were charged £2 for our toddler to eat food from our plates, I refused the things that they offered (Sausage, stuffing & Yorkshire) but was still charged, none of us had seconds. We wont be visiting again.

Stopped for lunch between business meetings - looking for nice pub lunch in the late September sunshine. Great location with views over the canal. "Venison sausages on bubble & squeak with onion gravy" was deep fried sausages and Bisto gravy. "Warmed Chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream & a rich chocolate sauce" was cold and more like a biscuit and the americano first turned up as a latte and then as a cup of instant. When i questioned this i was told that the coffee machine was broken, but they were insistent that i still had to pay £2.70 for a cup of Nescafe. On the way in I heard someone saying they thought the pub needed to raise their game - how right they were!

Booked a table of 10, waited for 30mins to get served a drink, then ordered food and waited an hour for our food, the food was below average cheap bought in frozen food and the barman was rude and aggressive. Unfortunately will not be returning or reccomending.

Its a Wadsworth pub doing standard pub food, simple as that. The food was OK and the staff were pleasant. Not sure why there have been some recent negative reviews. The outside garden could be smartened up

We called in for lunch and found the place quite busy but there were plenty of outside tables still available. First impressions were that these tables needed clearing and cleaning.

We decided to stop of at this pub for a bite to eat . The first impression we got was it must be OK because most of the tables were reserved . We decided to go for the Pizza and Pasta buffet . Unfortunately it turned out to be the worst meal I have ever had dinning out . The Pizzas were like cardboard without any topping and the Pasta was over boiled to the point it was slimy and the sources used tasted powdery . The only thing that was really edible was the salad .

The bridge is in a great location next to the canal so perfect for a pint outside on a sunny afternoon. The food is well presented but is just average, we would probably eat here again but there are other pubs serving better food.

Its been a while since we went but wont be going back any time soon. Lovely location but that's it. We had an abrupt welcome by the waitress who showed us to the table and took the order. We asked her if the lasagne was homemade and she said it was, again in an abrupt manner. The chef must take a very long time to prepare it as it was with precision and certainly did not taste anything but proceeded! Chips are frozen. I ordered Salmon with dauphinoise potatoes (again clearly processed and tasteless) and French peas. No mention of meat with this dish and I do not eat meat only fish but it came with pancetta. I had to pick it off as did not want to send it back then have to eat separately. We did tell the waitress (different one and more friendly) who spoke to the chef. The message back was that French peas are served with bacon! All French pea recipes I can find on google are not served with bacon. It is misleading and should be clearly stated on the menu that it is French peas with bacon/pancetta. The friendly waitress then went to show me the menu and said that the dish would have a V for vegetarian if it did not have meat!!! That's right but since when has a Pescatarian/fish dish become a vegetarian?! We did not bother with dessert, probably unlikely to be homemade.

I visited the restaurant with my family twice over the past week. The staff had a good knowledge of the area and recommended some lovely places to visit. On our second visit we were in the restaurant at the same time as “quest_devon” who was incredibly negative about her meal. The chef offered an alternative which she refused, but continued to moan about her meal making the dining experience for my family very unpleasant.

Good Wadworth beer and a very big menu. But like all such places it seems the staff are busy taking food orders or serving it, so you can queue a while at the bar. Having said that the food is OK though I think a tad expensive for what it is, and the staff are friendly enough. The garden with children's play area is nice. Personally I don't think dogs should be allowed anywhere near where food is served, but that's just my opinion. To sum up, it's OK, no more, no less.

The welcome wasn't as warm as we normally expect from a country pub. The ciabatta with brie, bacon with cranberry at £6.90 was at best only average as the brie was like our welcome, cool. We shall look elsewhere next time.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, our party of 20 were half an hour late for our booking at this beautiful canal side pub yesterday. However, the staff were still warm, friendly and welcoming when we finally appeared. We all enjoyed our food choices and left feeling happy and contented. Will definitely be returning, but next time we’ll go by car not narrow boat!

We walk down the canal to The Bridge Inn for a Sunday carvery. They do a large or a very large plate, this will depend on if you want to walk home or not! What you would expect from a pub Sunday roast. Dogs Welcome

Nice pub on the canal so on a sunny day it can be nice place, but unfortunately that's were it ends. Rude staff, ordered a pizza and salad. Soggy salad drowned in dressing and what looked like a shop bought frozen pizza, tasteless and undercooked. When it's so busy that you need to queue to complain it's a massive fail. Will not return

By accident as is usually the best way we happened upon the Bridge Inn what a find. The staff were welcoming and the service fantastic especially because it was a bank holiday Monday. Sitting alongside the Kennet and Avon canal we couldn’t have had a more agreeable lunch. We had the ploughman’s and the Italian salad the portions were very generous and all homemade. Fantastic will be back at our earliest opportunity. Thanks again

Having Never gone to this pub I had no idea what it was like. meeting a friend for lunch. Found that on a Wednesday they did carvery for £7.99. You had a generous helping of meat which was pork, beef and turkey. All of which was cooked just right. Good selection of veg was on offer. we both had pudding which was nice to see was homemade

A beautiful evening, lovely setting, shame about the food, £10.50 for a burger I would have expected a decent one,it was dry and tasted like it was locally sourced from a supermarket frozen section.

Popped in here whilst staying at a cottage just down the road. We arrived to find lots if signs saying how we would be charged a fine if we stayed too long in the car park, must be about 8 signs, not particularly welcoming. Anyway we went in and we met by a rather gruff 'yeah' from the woman behind the counter, I almost apologised for having the cheek to go in, again not a particularly warm welcome. I decided to persevere, enquired about food and were told not to sit in a room already laid up but that we could go elsewhere, fair enough. Ordered food and whilst waiting had a good look around, somewhat tired in decor but definitely had a locals feel to it. Staff had rather scruffy uniforms and a generally brusque manner, kind of made us feel that we were an inconvenience, and that they would rather carry on making a noise behind the bar laughing and joking but to a level that intruded on the privacy of those in the restaurant. Food was OK and of generous portions and to be fair at a reasonable price. Would I recommend it to non-locals, probably not, definitely a 'stick to the path' kind of place to quote from the American werewolf film. We decided not to hang around for puddings and made a quick escape. On the way back to the cottage we both agreed that we couldn't understand why people like that ran these sorts of places, such a shame and a missed opportunity. We would definitely do things differently if we were privileged enough to run such a place ourselves, we would start by offering a very warm welcome to any guests as they came in the door, that would include a smile, after all it's free!.

This lovely find is full of character matched by a team of friendly helpful staff and incredible food! We visited for the first time today and elected for the Sunday lunch carvery and Ive never eaten better. The food quality and service is second to none. They also carry a great selection of ales on draft and bottled, particularly from the local Wadworth brewery. If you value great food, sourced locally and prepared and served by a friendly team, look no further.

We had intended to have a look in at the Hour Glass, but found ourselves on the wrong side of the canal with no bridge so wandered on. We made the right choice as the atmosphere, food and beer at The Bridge was top notch. I had duck which was well presented with particularly nice homemade dauphinoise potatoes and plenty of extra gravy. My partner opted for a couple of starter salads. I'm sure we will be back,

We've had some good visits here in the past but were very dissapointed today. The website and online menus say food is served 12-3pm but when we arrived at 2.45pm and asked if we could have a bowl of hot nachos and some chips we were very bluntly told they stopped taking food orders at 2.30pm. The woman behind the bar came across as unecesarily rude and made us feel completely unwelcome. Maybe she's fed up with people asking for food after 2.30pm? Maybe they should change the website and menus to accurately reflect their service times? Or maybe they just weren't interested in a small food order. We won't be going back anytime soon.

An unexpected visit to this gem on the canal. It was a very welcoming site on a cold, wet and miserable day. The inside is extremely cosy and comfortable and the staff were very accommodating given that we hadn't booked. We sat near the fire and enjoyed a beautiful meal which was reasonably priced. They also don't mind having our four legged friends come in out of the cold providing they are well behaved.

Prior to summer this year I had visited during Winter, walking up the canal from the Travelodge. Walking up the canal path on the "opposite side" can be quite mucky and you need good walking boots but it is well worth it when you arrive as I was greeted by 3 log fires in different eating areas and the scoff was bloody delicious.

The Old Mill hotel was where we chose to hold our wedding reception earlier this month. The whole event went very smoothly thanks to Lisa, Tobias and the rest of their team who went above and beyond to help us pull off the event. Because of them we were able to hold an intimate but amazing party for my family and friends that we will all remember this for years to come. The setting was magical, the food was amazing and the service was so friendly, accommodating and unbeatable. Thank you so much for all your help at the Old Mill Hotel. The hotel will always hold a special place in our memories and we can’t wait to be back

A Family member decided to meet here for a family meal for his 2 year olds birthday. The table was pre booked for 11 people. When we arrived the initial appearance of the place was slightly worrying, then we entered the building to find there was only 2 other people in the pub, drinking only.. However as many had travelled we decided to stay and eat here as planned. Once everybody had arrived we asked for menus only to be told they didn't have any and that the food options were written on black boards near the bar.. By 5.30pm we had placed our orders. We were still the only people ordering food in the restaurant. At 6.45 the food has still not arrived, the waitress comes out and then says they have no corn on the cob which was ordered as part of the children's meals. 5 minutes later the children's meals finally arrive! They asked for ketchup and mayo, only to be told they had run out, but the landlord was going to pop to local shop to get some. Finally the rest of the food started to appear from the kitchen.. The pork chop was 90% fat, The 'Salad' was a handful of wilted lettuce only, The baked beans were cold, hard and almost white in colour.! Myself and one other had ordered 'Flame Grilled' Chicken burger with blue cheese.. These were the last plates to leave the kitchen after waiting nearly 90 minutes in an empty restaurant.. What we received was an oven cooked chicken breast in a soggy bun. The outside of the chicken had gone hard, once I had bitten into it I realised it was pink (raw) in the middle!! As was the other burger ordered. After showing the waitress she spoke to the manager who kindly told us we would not be charged for the burgers!! Instead of the manager approaching our table and apologising for the wait, the poor service and awful food, he put all of the pressure on the young lady that was running front of house alone.. She seemed very embarrassed, upset and flustered after our time at the restaurant. We felt very sorry for the girl. Very unprofessional from the management.. So in Short. Scruffy initial appearance. Dated, dirty interior. Lack of drinks and condiments. Ridiculous waiting times. Disgusting , overpriced food. Very very poor management.. AVOID !!!
