Awful place, service was terrible, and the food was cold, out of tin, tables uncleared and had been there for a long time. Other visitors left after not eating their food. Drinks given in Dirty glasses. Service very very slow and they all looked stoned and very unhelpful

We went for a meal with another couple on the evening of Saturday 17th August. We had a lovely meal, which was beautifully cooked and presented. We will definitely come again. Just a shame that there weren't many people there. There were 2 more couples at the next table when we arrived but when they left we were the only occupants there apart from the chef and the young man who was waiting on us. Apparently Sunday lunchtime is very busy, which is good but where were the locals on a Saturday night?

The Swan Inn at Stoford Upon our arrival at the Swan Inn we managed (eventually) to attract the attention of a young man who appeared to be an employee and we explained that we had a reservation to stay for three nights. Again, eventually, we were shown up some flights of stairs. At 64 and only 5ft tall I was visibly struggling with my luggage and so was a little disconcerted that the aforementioned young man strolled effortlessly ahead burdened only by a set of keys. He stopped at the top, handed over said keys and immediately departed without so much as a backward glance. Upon entering the room we were somewhat taken aback by the sight of an unmade queen bed with some dirty mugs on the bedside table. This clearly wasn’t the twin beds we had booked, but hey, anyone can make a mistake! back down the stairs went my daughter and explained the problem to the same young man. He handed her another set of keys and gave an alternative room number, but this time, didn’t bother with the unnecessary exertion of accompanying her. The second room was equipped with twin beds and on a cursory inspection appeared to be guest ready, ie the beds were made and there were no dirty cups. The door lock didn’t seem to work, but hey, it’s an old Inn, nowhere is perfect. We dumped our luggage and left for a prearranged appointment. We left the door unlocked as we really couldn’t make it work. On our return at around 8.30 pm we began to realize with mounting horror the real condition of our room. Please see attached pictures. I’m not sure if the Inns vacuum cleaner was broken or even if they possessed one, but it clearly hadn’t made an appearance in this room in some considerable time. But hey……….nope this wasn’t going to work! A phone conversation with the Inn owner/manager, (not sure which) the following day, ( he was furious that we had requested a refund for the remaining two days) resulted in his very determinedly attempting to convince me that my pictures were, in fact, just my opinion! Wait what? I’m pleased to say however, that on learning that I was planning to post the photos along with a review the charming fellow very obligingly said that I must “do what I felt was right!!” And so I have.

The food was fantastic but the woman who works there was very rude and had a potty mouth. She was swearing profusely and was asked to stop. She said no in response. The worse employee you could want for a pub like this. Think this pub needs a more respectful and clean looking woman at front of house.

Hearty hotel outside Salisbury. Plenty of free parking spaces available. Contrary to their advertising, on Sunday there is only warm food until 4 p.m. The receptionist was friendly. But when she couldn't open our room, the manager had to come, who didn't say a word, opened the door and left shaking his head. There was also no information when asked where to get warm food. The rooms are ok, even if the 70-year-old furniture could be replaced. In particular the large and unnecessary desk with 6 drawers. 🙈 The bathroom is well equipped, but the water heater for hot water is a disaster: complicated, unreliable and that's why we took cold showers. Is there still trash from the previous tenant in the trash can!? The WiFi never worked in ours!

We booked a couple of rooms for two night stay. When we arrived the owners wendi and tony were really welcoming and friendly. They showed us to our rooms and made sure we were happy and comfortable with everything and that our children were too ( the rooms are gorgeous). They then showed the children that they had a pool table and skittles that they were welcome to play with, which they did and had a great time. It was a good base for us as we went to Stonehenge and into Salisbury ( Saturday market was great) both worth going for a look around in our opinion. The food we were served up was amazing!! Everything cooked fresh, came out hot tasting delicious and was polished off!! Nothing was too much trouble and the service was 100% We have all agreed we will be coming back again soon

Very easy to find and big car park across the road. Check in was easy, quick with no problems. Nice location. Come from Derby to visit Stonehenge which is only 10/15 minutes away. Also decided to stay a second night and we went to Paultons park which is only 40 minutes away. The first night we stayed we ate in the restaurant i couldn't fault the food it was perfect and so tasty. We didn't have to wait long for anything either. Just what we needed after a tiring long day. Prices are good. The ice cream was lovely. Great choices. Kept my daughter very happy. Only thing i found strange was a sign on the wall when we first came into the restaurant that said please go to the bar to be seated so we did, the guy behind the bar said you can sit anywhere so we sat down at a table and a few moments later he came over and said “that wasn't hard was it? with all these spare tables”... Not sure if it was intended as a joke but i found that quiet a weird thing to say to someone thats just come in. Other than that comment he was very helpful, cleared the table quickly, asked if we needed anything else ect. The room was nice, well equipped, had everything we needed. Was warm and well lit, nicely decorated. Even though it is on a main road i didn’t notice the sound from the traffic much. Obviously you could hear it but with the windows shut and the extra shutter in front it is quite quiet. Shame the walls are paper thin as the second night whoever was in the room next to us was very loud until late at night especially with the tv i could hear every word as if i was in the same room as them. This is not the hotels fault i know butmaybe guests should be warned to consider other people late at night as it was very annoying. The cleanliness is the only thing that really lets it down. Went to have a bath and found little black hairs all over so i had to spend time cleaning the bath before i got in. I started to make a cup of coffee and the cups had dried on marks from someone using them before, which came off easily when i rinsed them, obviously not been cleaned properly. The carpet seemed as if it had not been hovered. I did check the bed out before getting in to make sure it was clean as i always do and i couldn't find anything which was good. It was very springy but was okay after i got used to it so slept well. Breakfast was gorgeous, first morning i had a bacon bap normally i am fussy with bacon but this was amazing!! Second day had the full English, i cannot fault the food at all i really can't. Well done to whoever cooks because everything i ate was beautifully done. If i was close to the area i would definitely be a frequent customer for food. Again, only thing that let it down was cleanliness, picked up a few different plates from the buffet before getting one that looked decently cleaned...I made myself a cappuccino took it back to my table and when i was about to drink it I noticed someone elses lipstick marks all around the cup. So didn't have a hot drink, and made me wonder if the plates, cutlery gets cleaned at all. Overall id come back in a heartbeat if we ever came to the area again. The prices are really good for what you are getting. Id recommend here to anyone. Even just for the food Thank you for a great stay!

My wife and I and a couple of old friends regularly meet up for lunch in a country pub/restaurant in the Dorset/Wilts area and have done so for more than a decade. I found the web site for this place and it looked ideal and I booked a table for six (to include my daughter and her partner) some four or five days ahead. First impressions were that it was a little dowdy but sometimes happens yet good food and service triumphs. Not this time. The restaurant was empty and there were only tables for four or eight, it felt like we were not anticipated. We sat in the bar area having arrived early and ordered some drinks. No problem there so our hopes were raised. Then we looked at the menu which was as shown on the web site. Not extensive but the beautiful photos suggested properly cheffed food. I had to go to the bar to ask if our table was ready only to be told that he (the guy behind the bar who seemed to be on his own) didn't know it was us who had booked. There were no other parties in the place! We decided to stay in the bar area and I had to ask for him to come to the table to take our orders. When the food arrived it was clearly 'Brake Brothers' type food, stuff that was microwaved in the back room. Edible but not enjoyable. The guy didn't clear away the cups and glasses before serving the food. I asked for a wine list but apparently this was in production. When asked what wines there were we were told there were three whites and three reds and was sold by the glass. He had to read the labels to tell us which wines they were. Only two of us opted for wine, a Merlot and a Malbec. I didn't drink either but both smelt dire, in all likelihood they were poured from bottles that had been opened some time ago. We stacked used crockery on an adjoining table to make space. We had to return to the bar to order desserts which were also factory offerings. None of us mind roughing it a bit but the web site seriously oversold this place and the service was appalling.

Myself, my two sisters and my mum were looking forward to our lunch out. We decided to go to the Swan at Stoford, as they offer discount through Meerkat Meals. In hindsight, our decision to dine at this pub was a terrible mistakeThe first thing we noticed was that the pub was unwelcoming - it was freezing cold, dark, dingy, dirty and there were worryingly few customers seated There was one woman serving behind the bar, and we told her that we had booked a table in advance. The woman was incredibly hostile and nasty, and told us that she had no bookings- but that we could sit down anyway unless we were attempting to use any offersWe told her that we were trying to use the meerkat offer, which was why we booked in advance. We also told her that we could prove that we had made a booking, and could show her the email confirmation. She didn’t seem interested Our booking then popped up her side, but she said we still couldn’t have discounted meals as we didn’t mention that we were going to use that discount in the booking notes... at this point we realised that she had no intention of honouring the offerWe asked her why she was so unwilling to honour the discount, and she told us that the pub actually resented and didn’t want to participate in Meerkat Meals, and that they were roped into it through Taste Card. We tried to ask for her name but she refused to give it to us At this point we felt we had to leave as she made it very clear we weren’t going to be getting what we came for. We were extremely disappointed as we were looking forward to our visit to this pub, had travelled to get there (one all the way from Bristol), and had organised babysitters. The customer service was so shocking and the whole experience really put a dampener on what should have been a great day!

After a mornings shopping in Salisbury we called in at the Swan for lunch having read some good reviews and we were DEFINITELY NOT disappointed. We had reserved a table and then rang to say we were running late and the man on the phone told us NOT to worry at all as they do food all day. We were very warmly welcomed by Jamie, the barman, as we walked in. There was a good choice of real ales. The menu also was very interesting and we had a hard decision deciding what to choose. My husband had the Stonehenge chicken and said it was delicious, which was proved by his clean plate! I had the steak and ale pie..also very tasty. We had no room for desserts as the portions were very generous. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming. The pub is very clean and had a lovely roaring fire. Parking is across the road opposite the pub... so be careful crossing the busy A36. We will definitely be returning when in the Salisbury area. Thank you Jamie and Liz

Having passed this pub many times we decided to stop for a country pub carvery. To say we were disappointed is an understatement!!!! The bar staff couldn't even pour a pint of Guinness. We ordered our food which was pricey in my opinion, but was looking forward to a nice hearty roast. We went and found our own table as staff not helpful. We went to get food and omg we were shocked, the quality was poor, the veg was swimming in water, the potatoes were undercooked, hard in the middle, the beef was over cooked and the gravy was very runny. All of the food was lukewarm nothing was hot. My husband then found bone and gristle on his turkey, how appetising. It gets worse. We were then sat having a drink and a member of staff came out of the kitchen and if I had seen the dirt before we had ordered I wouldn't have bothered. The whole place looks tired and in need of an update but it is also not very clean. Then to top off the visit we watched a person take a dog into the kitchen, couldn't believe our eyes. At no point during our visit did any member of staff ask if everything was OK, they gave the impression they didn't care at all. Will definitely never go back.

We used to stop here 3 or 4 times a week when travelling regularly from Dorset to Bath to visit my mother in hospital so, on a day out to Longleat, we decided to stop there for a meal after explaining to our guests that, "The food here is great!" Well I don't know if there has been a change of ownership but, we won't be stopping there again. Ordered 5 meals, 2 all day breakfast one with no beans, explained no beans more than once, two hearty beef stews and a steak meal. Steak meal was pleasant, thank you. Both breakfasts had beans. The hearty BEEF stews were replaced with lamb hotpot with no explanation. If you choose to visit, check out their 5 star food rating from......2014 proudly displayed... We only noticed this in our hurry to leave. No member of staff could change the gas on the guiness! Flies were awful and there were no UV fly controls or any other means to deter them. 400 yards past here toward Salisbury there is a sign for another public house with great food. We went here for dinner on a Monday night. I wanted to treat my other half. A quiet evening in the pub. After approaching the bar stating our booking, we were seated and given menus. Within the first 30 seconds of looking at the menus, we noticed there were flies buzzing around where we were sat. We persevered looking for something to eat but before we’d even ordered, we moved to a different table. Our starters arrived which we enjoyed however before we’d finished them we were inundated with flies. Once we’d we finished our starters, we moved again in the hope to get away from the flies. We even asked the waitress if there was anywhere else to sit where the flies weren’t so bad. Her reply was ‘No, they’re awful everywhere!’ We tried to persevere with our mains but were constantly fanning flies away from our food. We gave up trying to enjoy our evening and headed home.

What came to the table was one Chicken, Ham and Leek Pie and two Edamame Bean, Mushroom and Spinach Pies (not even on the menu!) Not a butter bean or chunk of sweet potato in sight. Fortunately the Swan serves food in the bar so we didn't need to search for a restaurant nearby (I don't think there is one close) for dinner.

We booked a table on the Sunday night and whatever we ordered on the menu was unavailable so we plumped for homemade curry which was awful my husband had a turkey curry which seemed to be made up of all the innerds of the turkey and was so disgusting we refused to pay for it and he went to bed hungry.

Xmas day. Wow... it’s a get up and get it yourself carvery. The meat is so dry it’s arid. The carrots are so raw I can’t get my fork in. Disgraceful. There wasn’t a happy table in the place. People wanted to leave but obviously hadn’t made provision for such an epic failure of a meal. £50 a head. It wasn’t worth a tenner. Don’t put on an Xmas menu and deliver a carvery which wasn’t advertised. A shameful disgrace!

Came here for a family meal, 8 of us in total. Food was excellent, the majority of us had the steak and ale pie and there were no complaints! Plenty of really tasty, good quality meat which was not at all grisly like you find in some other places. Portions were huge, so great value for money. Service was fantastic too. Have recommended to countless friends and family and revisited a few times since. Definitely well worth a visit if you want a really tasty, filling meal for a reasonable price

We went for a meal on the way back from Salisbury. found this place after searching for a while off the beaten track. We both opted for the pie called a Proper Pie. It was in a large dish with a light pastry crust and filled with steak and was delicious. Far to much to eat at one go. very good value for a person with a very good appetite.

I had the pleasure of running a course with the Swan as the venue today. Staff were very polite and extremely helpful. We were given a lunch which was very nice and well presented. Coffee and tea was on all day, yes I'm aware we paid for it but it was constantly sorted by the staff. The facilities were very clean & tidy and we were not disturbed throughout the day.

We stopped here for lunch. Service was very prompt and the staff were friendly. The whole restaurant and bar area need a good refurbishment. The back of the bar looks like they're halfway through moving in (or out). I ordered the premium steak burger with sweet potato fries and onion rings. Why oh why do some chefs choose serve burgers open. I am genuinely curious about their decision making process. If I order a burger I want to be able to pick it up straight away and take a large bite. I do not want to have to reconstruct the damn thing first. I'm especially interested why you would serve an open burger with what was clearly NOT a home made beef patty. It looked like it had come from the frozen section of a supermarket and it was moudled into a 'steak' shape. The onion rings where also not home made and I'm guessing neither were the sweet potato fries despite being the best part of the dish. The burger was solid and chewy and came with the usual lettuce, tomato and red onion. My big complaint with this dish was the price - £12. There is a burger van close to where I live. It's run by an ex head chef from the top restaurant in our city. He makes the best burgers in the world. I know this because I've tasted burgers around the world and none come close to his. I've seen him create his burger mix in the morning and all his burgers are hand pressed. For £5.50 you can get a large succulent burger supporting a mound of slow roast spiced pork on a toasted brioche with the usual salad and sauces - and it doesn't require any reconstruction. I say again - £5.50. When you bite into this work of art you cannot help closing your eyes and sighing blissfully. Even without this culinary enlightenment £12 is way too much to pay for something that required a very little effort to create.

We were staying at the Swan and wanted to eat in the restaurant. We decided on the pate to start which was delicious. The main course of local venison steak arrived and here we had real issues. Having ordered a medium and a rare they were both ridiculously overcooked. We had to send them back but the waiter took one look at them and was very apologetic. Cut through they were clearly very well done. I don't know who in the kitchen had prepared them but when the replacements arrived they were what can only be described as perfect! Excellent venison superbly cooked and delicious. We finished with a desert and a cheese selection. We accompanied this with a bottle of red wine but my first choice was not available but we were offered a superb alternative that wasn't on the list and was very reasonably priced.

Probably our 3rd visit and the 2 previous occasions was actually very nice. This time though it was as if we were in a totally different pub! The table was sticky and there was debris on the floor around it presumably from the previous customer? or the night before? I was immediately told that there 2 menu options unavailable a bit strange for a very quiet pub and midweek? anyway my wife opted for a chicken salad and I chose the Ham, chicken and leek pie. The meals were delivered very quickly and the chap placed mine in front of me and I was shocked to say the least! the meal cost was £11.99 I was presented with less than 1 desert spoon of potato, 3 green beans, 2 Mange Tout, a previously frozen, precooked pie that had clearly been microwaved or at most put in a fast oven, the plate was plastered in some sort of red powder I presume for decoration? looked more like they had spilled paprika all over it to me!. I complained to the barman that I was not happy with the portion size for £11.99 and that if that was it he could have it back! he immediately went to the kitchen and came out with more potato and vegetables, which did make it look more like an adult meal instead of a child's!!My wife's salad was at least a decent portion but it was mostly lettuce and rocket, very dry and tasteless no dressing and dry chicken!Over all totally disappointing,we feel totally ripped off and we definitely wont be going again! and if you are reading this and are considering it? think again!

When we arrived the bar was very busy with only one person serving. I ordered a white wine spritzer which came with very flat lemonade, so tried again with soda water which was better although took a long time to arrive. Told we could sit in the restaurant but there was a half eaten buffet laid out so when we asked again we were told we couldn't use the restaurant. Had to sit in the bar which was very hot and windows wouldn't open (presumably because of the very busy road right outside). We were told to order at the bar but when we tried we were told someone would take our order at the table. Total lack of communication between staff! Food was poor. My halloumi burger was lacking in halloumi and the bun was stale. Chips and onion rings pale and floppy as not cooked enough, My husband's rib and chicken meal was a very poor version of the Harvester but double the price. Tiny rack of ribs and the chicken was a small, flat piece of meat. Totally overpriced for what it was. We did tell the waiter of our disappointment and he offered us a free drink but we decided to cut our losses and go. We won't be going back.

Stayed here on route home from Portsmouth to Cheshire. Bar food was processed, frozen fish which had been deep fried too many times. Appeared to be under staffed at breakfast, when breakfast finally arrived bacon was hard and cold. As other reviewers have mentioned rooms are facing the A36 but noise not so bad, bathroom was clean with free toiletries and a hair dryer. The bed however was very soft and uncomfortable and the TV only had one Chanel that worked.

Stopped here for lunch en route to the new forest, bar service a bit slow which may be due to in experience. Food came out quickly which is what we wanted. However, the car park is across a very, very busy road so if you have young children or pets BE VERY CAREFUL.You can eat your food outside, there is a small garden to the back of the pub and there are some seats behind the car park across the road near a small stream, however you have to take your own food across the road to it.

Although it is located by the A36, the pub and its gardens are peaceful and quite. The staff will go that extra mile to deliver your food and drinks across the road where you can sit by the river. We had fish and chips and some drinks, the fish was fresh and chips were home made, very nice. We truly enjoyed our meals. The service was quick and the waitress extremely polite. Nice relaxing atmosphere.

we ordered a small fish and chips, gammon carbonara and a beef and ale pie. I was told by the bar staff it would be 5 minutes, to which i chuckled and commented "it must be microwaved then". The bar staff replied "we have 2 chefs on and they work very fast". No sooner as i had sipped my beer then the food appeared, 5 minutes later as promised. A soggy pie, fish in batter that tasted of nothing and a very small plate of carbonara with a small piece of garlic bread. One beer and 2 lime and sodas totalled £38. Rip off. Shocking, expensive, food. Needless to say, no tip was given. DONT EAT HERE, drive on to the next pub, cafe, truck stop or burger van, anything but this poor excuse for food

Stopped here for morning coffee on the way to Salisbury. Staff friendly, but general 'atmosphere' rather drab. Extortionate £2.75 for a mediocre cup of coffee in a road-side pub that could not even offer brown sugar! It certainly put me off stopping there for dinner on the way back.

Only complaint was waiting for someone to arrive next morning to check out. We should have settled everything night before but a lively stay and would stay again

We stayed here on a B&B basis to break up a journey to Devon for our holiday. We had Room 1 with the four poster bed. Despite being right above the entrance to the pub, and overlooking the main road, there was very little noise. The room was comfortable with everything you need for a one-nighter. Breakfast in the morning was a basic buffet but tasty, and they were able to cater for my partner's Gluten and Dairy free needs.

This is a beautiful location - along the River Wyle- and the pub is a classic stone building. What I really liked was the food. The pork belly melted in my mouth. Perfectly done. My husband enjoyed the steak and ale pie. I understand they have a good selection of beers but the Stoford bitter ale was disappointing. Nevertheless, I would recommend this pub as an outing from Salisbury or a walk down from Great Wishford.

Many times have I thought about stopping at the Swan at Stoford, especially in the summer when you can sit outside by the river, although that is also when there is usually hoards of customers and parking is at a premium, so with that said I was very much looking forward to my first visit for Lunch. On entering it was fairly empty, we were quickly served and we ordered the 2 course Lunch. The first course, the Hearty Winter Soup was okay but the accompanying bread roll was microwaved plastic, well that’s exactly what is tasted like !!. The Main course of Hand Carved Ham was similarly poor inasmuch as it was a small portion of Ham with an attached thick strip of fat, the fried egg was fresh and okay and was in fact the only reasonable item on the plate, as the chips were really appalling. We’ve all had triple fried chips but those served to us must have been in and out of the fryer several times, and probably over a few days, yes they were that disgusting, and they went back on the plate. The ‘Tripadvisor badge of Excellence’ in the window simply added insult to injury, and while the Swan is on a main road (A36) it was obvious that the windows had not been cleaned for some months and were filthy. Similarly the photos on Tripadvisor of the Swan and its well presented and nice looking food are also misleading, as the food served to us was at best poor, at £11.99 it was expensive, and whoever let that rubbish out of the Kitchen last Monday lunchtime (Jan 30th), needs either re-training or sacking. All in all a very poor experience, and one I will not repeat again – you all have been warned.

We had great service from the staff, although an extra staff member making 3 on the bar I think would have been appreciated all round. The skittle ally was fantastic to try and for something different.Cheesy garlic bread, cheese not quiet cooked enough and I would expect normally for it to come cut. It made a pretty stingy portion seem worse really. Crusted rack of lamb, the crust wasn't quiet to our taste so we moved it off. Seeded mustard features in the crust and really doesn't need to be in the mash also. Meat cooked to perfection and a good portion. Was missing the baby shallots, both lamb and garlic bread instead served with chives. We had coconut and white chocolate cake which was massive and delicious. If I'm being picky not enough ice cream, very small amount and the cake was a little dry without it. A few small misses, overall we had a great evening.

We called in for lunch and tried the "carvery" which was small, not particularly appetising and not good value/. There was little or no atmosphere to make one feel particularly welcome, and nobody bothered to thank us for our visit as we left. The pub is in a good location for passers-by en-route to/from Salisbury, so may well depend on the casual traveller rather than local people.

We normally visit quite often but have now noticed a downward spiral on food and service. We visited on a Sunday at 1800 for a Sunday roast. The waitress asked the kitchen whether there was any left and we were told yes. We ordered and waited 35mins to find out that the order hadn't been put through correctly. We waited a further 20mins for the food to come out. I couldn't understand what the wait was as the roast pork was what was left from the afternoon. It finally came out and the potatoes were hard, the vegetables also hard (not adente) and the Yorkshire I can understand was stale. No one came to ask if everything was OK with me meal. It was difficult to get the attention of the waiter when I wanted a little more gravy too. All in all a poor experience. I came back here because I wanted to give it another go since the last time we visited. It's a shame. This used to be such a lovely place to come.

The Old Mill hotel was where we chose to hold our wedding reception earlier this month. The whole event went very smoothly thanks to Lisa, Tobias and the rest of their team who went above and beyond to help us pull off the event. Because of them we were able to hold an intimate but amazing party for my family and friends that we will all remember this for years to come. The setting was magical, the food was amazing and the service was so friendly, accommodating and unbeatable. Thank you so much for all your help at the Old Mill Hotel. The hotel will always hold a special place in our memories and we can’t wait to be back
