Worst roast we have all had. A flat biscuit Yorkshire pudding, slimey or burnt cabbage, overcooked cauliflower cheese- which felt like it was microwaved as some was cold some was hot, the gravy served was the equivalent of a shot glass, it could barely even cover a carrot. More was provided on request however it still was a small portion. The staff were friendly. The toilets were not clean, the mens urinal was leaking into a bucket underneath. The staff were great but we did not feel like the food was cooked by a chef. I wouldn’t recommend it

Having booked to watch the rugby, we found the table allocated had very restricted views towards all screens. There was a perfect empty table nearby which had a reservation for someone else at 4.15pm. (This was 1.15pm). As the rugby would be finished at four we asked at the bar if we could sit there. We were told yes as long as we were off the table by 4.15pm. At 3.31pm we were approached and told there was a reservation for this table and we would need to vacate. We said we would be gone before 4.15pm. We were told we must be off by 4.00pm as it would take 15 minutes to clear the table!!!(four glasses, one plate and a wipe. Really?). We agreed as the rugby would finish at 4.00pm. At 3.59pm we were approached again and told the party with the reservation had arrived. (15 minutes early). We said as soon as the final whistle blew we would leave. The game was in its final minute. We were made to feel so unwelcome. It’s like they would have preferred the table to be empty for the 2 hours 45 minutes we sat there. We had three or four rounds of drinks in that time and a little bit of food. We did vacate the table as the final whistle went at exactly 4.00pm and they had the table cleared in seconds before we walked the few steps to the door. We were not trying to be awkward. We had every intention of leaving at 4.00pm without be hassled twice and made to feel terrible in front of other customers. We could have had a lovely afternoon and the next party a lovely evening yet at least three members of staff decided we shouldn’t be there. (The manager who told them to do it (overheard lady in blue shirt tell staff when I was on my way back from the toilet) and two other ladies. One final thing, the young lad who was clearing our table on a regular basis was lovely and polite. He deserves a mention. Everyone else should learn that you shouldn’t be hassling customers using a reserved table until closer to the time. Maybe a fifteen minute warning and not a forty five minute one would have been more appropriate. Took the shine from what would have been a lovely family catch up.

We were visiting Marlborough on our way home from a short stay over Bristol/Bath way. It was getting close to lunchtime and as we hadn’t eaten breakfast before setting off we decided to have something to eat. Having seen the Royal Oak in the high Street and its beautiful flower display outside we decided to pop in for drink and food. My husband ordered a pie and I opted for a chicken and bacon sandwich. My husband asked for the bacon in my sandwich to be crispy as thats my preference. The bar person said no problem as they can ask for it to be cooked crispy. We waited for our meals and when they arrived my bacon was all limp and fatty. I mentioned my preference again and the lady took it back. When it was returned (after my husband had nearly finished his meal) the bacon was well cooked. However, the chicken was in big chunks and the sandwich contents very dry plus the bread was soggy underneath from sitting in the salad on the plate (pickled red onion and lettuce). I’m not in the habit of complaining but it was not at all nice. I mentioned this to the bar staff and received no apology. Very disappointing as it wasn’t a cheap meal, no apology and I’m sad to say I won’t be returning.

THE REVIEW I DIDN'T WANT TO GIVE!! we moved to the area a couple of years ago and have been using this place fairly often. I like to treat my wife and 4 kids to a meal once a month. Usually costing around £150. Never a complaint a beautiful pub with friendly staff. UNFORTUNATELY I popped in last week for a quick pint before jumping on a bus home when I arrived at the bus stop I realised my bank card had vanished. As I was walking back to the royal oak my phone started getting notifications that my card was being used online. I was shocked and slightly frantic. On speaking to staff I was out right ignored growing more frustrated I asked to speak to the manager who shrugged his shoulders as I tried to make them understand that fraud was being committed at the royal oak and I feared I had my pockets picked by a gang of youths hanging around the beer garden. Subsequently I left after being made to feel like I was causing trouble. A week later I'm still very troubled by this. I have attempted to make contact to try and find my card only to be completely ignored. Such an awful experience. This pub isn't safe, shame on you green king!!

Disappointing experience. When we visited on a Saturday at lunchtime there was a "relaxing" reggae set, which was unfortunately often too loud to hold a conversation. The volume reduced following requests, but did gradually increase over time. It became not very relaxing. Ordering was easy using the app and the food took about 35 minutes to arrived. Our party ordered fish and chips (good), steak sandwich (good), chicken and bacon chiabata (not great, chicken obviously straight from a packet and cold, as opposed to the warm as described on the menu, chiabata not toasted, seemed like an odd way to serve it, but perhaps a matter of taste) and a child's pasta and tomato sauce (not great). Serving staff were apologetic but offered no solutions. We're not local so it was unlikely we'd come again anyway, but we wouldn't come again if given the option. On the other hand, if you order the right things the food was good, so you may well have a great time. Although check in advance if you're looking for loud reggae as that might have been a one off...

Terrible experience here on 25th May, cup final day. OK so the TV was showing the football but the staff didn't take any notice of anyone else who wanted food it would seem. We queued up, asked what the 'specials' were and were told to find a table first, which we did - but when we got back to the bar, were completely ignored! There were 4 women serving behind the bar and only one of them appeared to be working, whilst the other 3 just stood around chatting at the other till, serving just one person, while we waited at the bar, being totally overlooked. It was a humiliating experience and all they seemed to be interested in was keeping the beer flowing for the football fans. We would have spent over £50.00 on a meal today, but had to walk away because we just couldn't get served. And not because it was busy but because primarily the staff had no interest in anyone who wasn't obvious a beer swiller! We've been here many times in the past and it was good but it would appear to have gone completely downhill, so we won't bother again but will take our custom elsewhere and will recommend our family and friends do the same.

Avoid this place. For a green king pub this place is overpriced & tatty. The beer was flat & tasteless. The young lady behind the bar said this is a green king up market establishment. I know it’s Marlborough, but you can’t put a place that resembles Wetherspoons in Marlborough & charge prices for inferior ales. Choose somewhere else, it maybe the same price. But you’ll get a better beer.

Just returned home after having Sunday dinner at The Royal Oak. Unfortunately, it was absolutely awful. The carrots had the strangest texture ever, like sponge, I could have actually plaited them together! The Yorkshire pudding was dry and flat, the roast potatoes were so hard that I could have knocked a nail in with them. Add to that, a couple of floppy lukewarm cauliflower florets and chicken that was tough and bone dry, and that was my lunch! The waitress offered to change the vegetables then came back from the kitchen saying they didn't have any more. I was offered a refund, which I accepted, and came home hungry. Husband's chicken Kiev was OK. Very disappointing experience sadly.

Everytime we come across this way we head here - love it! Came with our friends this time who’d never been before & they were a bit reluctant due to some of the reviews. Thankfully we weren’t let down. Place was busy, clean, staff attentive, good food (very filling) lots of drink choices. The only let down was the Gent’s toilets - but the lady in charge(?), who has always been helpful when we’ve visited, told us they have ongoing problems & are waiting for them to be fixed. I don’t always write reviews but after my friend was concerned due to them I thought I’d comment as I feel they don’t reflect what we’ve always witnessed. We don’t come here every week, at least once a month at various times of the day, breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner & have never been disappointed & always received good friendly service. If I lived closer (Didcot) I think I would like it as my ‘local’. The other half loves it not just because of the food but the choice of sport broadcast on multiple screens.

Had dinner and drinks with friends last night. We all had a fab night but the wait for food was very long. We were pre advised it would be an hour wait, ended up being close to two. Alot of people where waiting a long time for their food and you could see all the waiting staff were very busy. That being said the food was lovely, the new team are fab and work very well under pressure and Dana is a credit to you guys. We will visit again but please sort out the long wait for food. 🙂

We randomly stopped here for dinner on our way home to Sussex. Staff were friendly, the food was tasty, and the prices were reasonable - what more could you ask for?

We had a flippin delicious 3 course meal to celebrate our anniversary and we're looking forward to going back to try the other menu options soon! The improvement on the menu, the presentation, and the flavour was vast compared to before the current owners took over. The staff are very friendly and Hollie is doing a fabulous job of creating a welcoming atmosphere! If you've been put off of returning to The Old Mill because of previous management, I can assure you that things are looking fabulous for the future of the pub... So go back and give it a go!

Awful place, service was terrible, and the food was cold, out of tin, tables uncleared and had been there for a long time. Other visitors left after not eating their food. Drinks given in Dirty glasses. Service very very slow and they all looked stoned and very unhelpful

In short, a lovely pub let down by poor service and food. Visited 1pm on a Tuesday. Service was very poor, we had to tell the servers three times we were ready to order over a 15min period. When it came to paying the bill, it was the same, we had to keep asking. Servers were not busy, the place only had about 20 people in including our party, they were chatting to each other rather than looking after their customers. They left the card reader with us and never came back ... so we took our card and left. Food was mediocre at best. Two of our party had steaks, and both we overdone (my rare was medium/done). The cheesecake was the worst I've had, three of us couldn't eat it, taste and more so the texture were just off ... the base was fine. I've never left a poor review before, but this place, on that day, deserved it.
